This place is consistently good and reasonably priced, a rare combination in Austin's dining scene these days. We stopped in for dinner before heading to a show at the Moody Center. The menu changes seasonally which is always a good sign that fresh, high-quality ingredients are being used. This visit, I went with the three-course option for $55: the ahi tuna tataki, Georges Bank scallops and blue corn pudding. Everything was excellent, but the tuna was the clear standout as the presentation alone is a real showstopper. My only minor critique was the tomatoes in the scallop dish, which were a bit too large and ripe for my taste. That said, the service here is consistently impressive. I especially appreciated that the manager stopped by to introduce himself, a thoughtful touch you don't see very often anymore. They also validate parking which makes it easy to visit, especially if you're pairing dinner with something else nearby. The best restaurant, hands down, I have been to in Austin. It is such a hidden gem I (almost) want to keep it a secret. We did the 3 course for $55 deal - everything was masterfully crafted and just a pure culinary sensation. The dishes were also so incredibly beautiful and had fresh, local garnishes on top. I had the pork belly appetizer (incredible), the scallop entree ( a tad rancid but the BBQ succotash and hush puppies were amazing), and the vegan black forest cake (deep cocoa and rich). Each dish had many sauces and components / veggies that melded together perfectly. The portions were generous too. BF had the cauliflower soup, steak, and blue corn pudding and said it was the best meal he's had in Austin too. The interior is dimly lit, classy, and romantic. I was having breakfast here with colleagues from the department and a visiting professor. We opted for the breakfast buffet instead of ordering from the menu. Last time I was here, I ordered a croissant and egg breakfast sandwich, and it was a complete delight, though I don't think that item is on the menu anymore. The breakfast buffet was nice, with all the standard breakfast foods: bacon, scrambled eggs, pancakes, fruit, and a granola bar. I especially liked the hot plates, the potatoes and vegetables were seasoned really well, and I loved the selection of fruit and toppings for the granola and yogurt bar. The servers were very attentive, regularly checking on our water and coffee. A small jar of milk for the coffee gives a very classy touch. I do have to mention, though, that near the end of our breakfast (around 10:20), the kitchen started breaking down and cleaning up. It got very noisy with all the dishes and kitchenware clanking. I understand it was close to the end of breakfast service, but this was a bit of an issue. The Carillon, in the AT&T Hotel, is where my department and likely many others host visiting scholars, and the loud clatter made conversation difficult. Dined at Carillon last Saturday night before a comedy show at the Moody Center. Our party of 6 arrived at 5:00pm when they opened and were promptly seated at our reserved table. Waitress (117/jmurphy) was very friendly greeting us, explaining the specials, and taking our drink order. We explained that we were in a bit of a hurry and needed to leave at 6:45pm to make our show. Our cocktails arrived at 5:45pm after us asking if there was a problem with our order. In addition to our order, the waitress brought and took away a Martini no one from our table ordered. Second round of cocktails arrived at 6:45pm (30 minutes after ordering). We all ordered the special which included a salad, entree, and desert. Desert arrived at 7:00pm and we immediately requested the check. Our check included the Martini no one ordered and we were charged for an additional two cocktails that were not ordered. 20% "Service Fee" for our exceptional service was automatically added to the ticket. Due to being in such a hurry to make the show, I chose not to dispute the $51 overcharge and move on. Check was split between two credit cards. On the way to the show I received another credit card notification indicating Carillon charged my card again for the entire amount! ($684.86). I went back to the restaurant after the show to ask what happened. The manager was aware of the mistake and said she was discussing with accounting. I was told that I needed to call them on the following Monday and speak to accounting. I called Monday and the issue was resolved. On a positive note: The food was incredible!! Unfortunately, customer service is only as good as the person providing it. In this case, it appears the chaos was apparent between all the tables that night and I can only assume it was caused by poor management. I would love to try some of their other entrees, but it's not worth dealing with the poor service again. read more

I had breakfast here three days running this week. The service is very good and the food is delicious and creatively presented with a different breakfast casserole every morning. You can order from a generous buffet or off the menu. The wait staff are engaging, smiling and smart ... evening dining excellence at 6a. The headwater towers above everyone else minding things with quiet dignity, assisting where needed. There is never a moment when someone isn't paying attention. The chef is constantly teaching and training staff in best practices, customer service and food presentation. I was very impressed to see him engaging every morning to coach his team members into excellence. It is obvious that great care is taken to elevate the experience and the staff owns it ... making it a wonderful way to start one's morning. The only dull spot (and only reason I gave 4 instead 5) in an otherwise outstanding team is the host. He was consistently officious and domineering. He appeared dismissive of the rest of the staff, which is odd, since he was the only low performer in the group, and was unwilling to be bothered with customer requests. So, if you ignore the guy on the way in, and it's only a 50/50 chance he'll look up when you approach anyway, you're going to have a fantastic experience. The Carillon was just fabulous and destined to compete for a Michelin Star. This was our romantic night out where the whole experience was terrific. I was not expecting such 5 star treatment and not exactly dressed for the occasion in business formal but I was wearing a nice Texas Longhorn shirt with pants. The restaurant was not busy and practically had the place to ourselves however the next night was packed with a wait list Our captain was the best being super friendly and tended to our dining preferences. He was also our sommelier and helped me select a nice glass of wine. We were provided with some delicious bread and real butter along with a shot of special tea to compliment it. My main dish for the night was the Maple Leaf Duck Breast with a small confit duck "pot pie" with two small cornbread muffins on top where the sliced duck was on top of the pimento cheese golden grits. The sliced duck was so good I took my time eating it. However I forgot about the pot pie and then tried it. Well it was also duck but cooked so soft it melted in my mouth along with the vegetable ingredients it was buried in. It was the best. The cornbread was also great and overall one of the best meals I had over a year or two. My wife had the Rosewood Wagyu N.Y. Strip and said was one of the best steaks she also had. I have a feeling we will be returning often to dine here whether staying at the AT&T Hotel, attending Texas home games, or at the Bullock Texas State History Museum. In conclusion, if you are looking for an upscale night to celebrate or impress your business partners then this place is definitely for you. They can cater to different dinning situations with many private rooms and configurations. They also had their own bar with TVs showing sports. The next morning we had breakfast here and ordered the Two Eggs Breakfast with smoked bacon, breakfast potatoes and croissant. Just like dinner the food was tasty and delicious. Wow! What a pleasant surprise Carillon turned out to be!!! I stayed at the AT&T Center and decided to go down to Carillon for a late dinner (it was around 9:20). I went with the special and chose my starter, entree, and dessert for $55. Believe me, this is a great deal with the food that you get. I started with the Ahi Tuna Tataki, which was beautifully presented and the strawberry nuoc mam sauce was poured tableside. Not only did the dish look stunning, it tasted stunning. The tuna had the lightest sear on the outside and it was melt in your mouth. The avocado mousse, the small cucumber balls, the slightly charred strawberries, and the nuoc mam all worked together to create a unique bite. The nuoc mam was a balance of sweet, sour, salty, and umami. The entire dish was refreshing while packing a punch of flavor at the same time! It was a great way to start the meal. Then came the Seared Sea Bass. It was cooked beautifully and came straight out of the kitchen, as was evident by the temperature of the fish. It was buttery and also melt in your mouth, while the seared outside provided a slight texture contrast. It was extraordinarily well-cooked. The rice pilaf had peanuts sprinkled throughout, and it worked well with the tom yum sauce. It was not the typical tom yum flavor as you'd expect, but it had the perfect blend of creaminess provided by coconut milk and the typical sweet, salty, and sour flavor of a Thai tom yum. I only wish that it had some Thai chili in it to add spice to the sauce. The tomato confit provided the pop of tanginess to cut through the richness of the sauce and the Thai herbs (basil and mint mainly) provided the freshness. It was just a wonderful dish. The dessert was good, but it was definitely the weakest of the three items I got. Overall, this is still one of the best dinners I've had in Austin, and I've been fortunate to have dined at many restaurants like Hestia, Uchi, and other top tiered restaurants here. The restaurant was pretty empty when I arrived because it was so near closing time, but I never felt rushed. The courses came out well timed, and I was able to enjoy the dinner while being able to look around and appreciate the ambiance and decor of the restaurant. I've been here twice for the 3 for $45 dinner and am amazed by the special experience, intimate ambience, and flavors. Both times we came, it wasn't very busy and the managers came by and told us a lot about the restaurant, menu, chef, and everything. The value is incredible and the treatment is really top notch. Food-wise, the meals come with bread and butter and we go during happy hour to get half off drinks. Everything is really tasty and there are some really unique flavors and innovative usages of ingredients that make the dishes special. I think the appetizers really shine brightest actually and I was wowed by the beef carpaccio and crab ceviche. Their menu changes every season so I'm excited to come back and try new creations. I took one of my kids here before a formal music event. I was able to make a reservation on Open Table. It seemed worthy of his suit and tie, and there aren't many places that fall into that category in Austin anymore. Note that they do have a kids menu if you ask - it's actually for Miguel's (?), the place next door, but they accommodate children, from as mundane as chicken fingers to as exotic as salmon. Dinner was exceptional. The Hausbar farms salad was one of the best things I've had at a restaurant in Austin in a long time. I had difficulty deciding on an entree, and my server recommended the seabass, which was delicious. Service was attentive and on point. This is the place to go for an impressive meal. But most recently, we ordered a Valentine's Day bundle, hoping to spread some love to local businesses during COVID. I got 2 selections from each category such as: Starters: - Berkwood Farms Pork Belly ($14): you get an array of flavors from the refreshing herbal Japanese cucumber to the sweet and tart flavors from their pineapple butter, to the rich fatty flavor of the pork! (4.5/5) - Baby Iceberg Wedge ($9): nothing particularly different about this, but it does have big chunks of bacon and cornbread crumbs on top which made it fun. (3/5) Mains: - Georges Bank Scallops ($42): comes with sweet potato, asian pear, pureed sweet potato, and leek butter. One of the more fun takes on scallops I've had! (3.25/5) - Marfa Meats N.Y. Strip ($46): comes with potatoes, broccolini, and bordelaise (a sauce made up of red wine, bone marrow, butter, etc.) which was tasty! This deep, rich sauce paired with the chewy beef made for a great combination. What a rip off. Four of us went for the Mother's Day buffet. The cost was $90 a person which was outrageous for the amount and quality of the food but the charge was $540 total, including a huge involuntary tip for a table of four. The buffet consisted of three small stations plus desserts, which were mostly cookies and cupcakes, with 3 or so other small items. The seafood was cold shrimp, cold lump crab buried under a salad and tiny pieces of cold seared tuna inside of mixed vegetables. The only hot seafood was overcooked snapper along with a small selection of other steamer plate hot entrees and overcooked sides. Most of the cooked items were not freshly made and none of the food was particularly appetizing. It was slightly higher quality than a $30 all you can eat restaurant, and lower quality than many of those. We were charged $80 for a 20 percent tip. Our waitress did nothing. She took our drink orders. Three of us ordered an alcoholic drink. One person ordered coffee which the waitress forgot twice, and I believe we were charged for that as well. We didn't get fresh silverware between trips to the buffet without asking even though they took the silverware between our self serve courses. The service was negligible and yet that tip was added onto the bill. This was a very emotional day for one of us, who had suffered a tragic loss and going out on this day was a big deal for her as it was for many of the mothers who went to this brunch. Shame on this place for charging so much for lousy food, not including drinks of any kind, the crappy service and for taking advantage of Mother's Day to turn a profit. read more

Stayed at the hotel and stopped into Carillon two times. The staff were knowledgeable about the menu. The vibe is nice and it's very easily accessible restaurant if you're staying at the hotel. First visit: We (27f, 30f, and 35f) found the food options to be lackluster and not fitting our late dinner hunger needs. We had hoped for some classic staples, delicious fries and delectable desserts, but were met with disappointment. There weren't any fries on the menu and the dessert we ordered was more focused on the appeal of presentation than the quality of taste. Second visit: Stopped in again for pre-dinner wine and cheese -- with plans for dinner elsewhere. Our waiter was amazing and provided excellent service despite the fact that we were stopping in for a discounted special. The wine (Rośe) was refreshing and the cheese was pretty decent as well. The only downside was the cracker and cheese ratio was a little off, leaving us with extra cheese and craving more crackers. You get enough space in between tables and their interior has good warm vibe that help you enjoy your nice meal even better. You can order dishes from the menu if you like, but we all had lunch buffet and I was impressed with all the hot food they had on the day I visited. They had fresh salad, bread and two kinds of soups and for they hot food, they prepared fried rice, grilled salmon and beef which were very tasty. I feel like this used to be more of a fine dining establishment, but a recent visit leads me to believe it's just an accessible and convenient way to charge more for average food because it's connected to the AT&T conference center. The only good part of the scallops were the roasted carrots. The plate does not mix well and every bite has a weird aftertaste. Do not get the chocolate mousse, it is dry, bitter, and not enjoyable. The service is good, they check in a lot. The ambiance is nice. My husband got the iceberg salad, New York strip, and the orange crème brûlée. The fine folks at Carillon are offering a 3-course price fixe menu right now, at a very attractive price - so I emailed them to see if they could accommodate the four of us with that menu on the night of our anniversary, which they graciously and enthusiastically could. Well, I told a friend about our plan, and they told a friend, and _they_ told a friend and next thing you know we are a romantic anniversary dinner party of 11. Yes, ours went to 11. The Carillon folks could not have been more friendly, accommodating, and welcoming. They went out of their way to make our evening special - including a personalized menu, a fresh flower bouquet from a local farm, outstanding service, well crafted cocktails, and delicious food which was both unique and creative. Every course (and with 11 people I think it's fair to say we hit every possible combo) was simply superb. I'm updating my review of The Carillon, because, well, we just had another amazing experience there and I have to share it. Everything I said prior about The Carillon still holds true - impeccable service, delicious and inventive food, etc. Last evening we dined there again with a large group of friends and our two grown kids to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. The group was all Yelpers we'd met over the years, and are now all close friends. So we sit down to our table and when they bring the menus to each person, they have our names printed at the top! These folks literally went and printed custom menus congratulating us. Crazy! A beautiful bouquet of flowers was in the middle of the table - no, not a centerpiece, a gift for my wife from the same local farm where The Carillon gets their flowering herbs. Crazy! These people know how to make you feel special, I'll tell you what. I'll end this, bc I've written quite a bit now about my love for The Carillon. Just trust me, if you're looking for something a bit different, not trendy or hot, but just a reliably inventive and quality dining experience, give The Carillon a try. Absolutely divine dinner experience here with our server Emma. Must visit while on the block to see Blanton! Fabulous and unique charcuterie board - truffle salami and "baby pops" pickled Brazilian peppers were our favorites, but hard to pick. No fillers at all just absolutely bomb choices all around.
