Chicken fried steak and waffles with an egg
Kara M.

OVERVIEW: We pulled up for brunch on a Sunday around 11am and managed to park in the grass just off the busy road (they have valet but it's not complimentary). Seated right away for our 11:15am reservation, service was smooth. The menu offers up apps and sweet and savory dishes, along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The prices are steep, but the portions seem generous. Unfortunately the value for me wasn't there - nothing stood out to me for the price point - and I don't think I see myself revisiting. QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Valet for $ or a few spots off the road in the grass (beware of all the towing signs). - Reservations? Yes, recommended but not required. FOOD RATINGS: - Tater tots (3/5): Described more as a cheesy mashed potato that's fried, these were exactly that. A little too mushy for my taste but not terrible. - Chicken fried steak and waffles (4/5): This was probably the best seller. Great flavor of sweet and savory, and adding an egg was perfect. - Chorizo migas (3/5): This was good but too salty, and I love salt. Not sure if it was the queso or the eggs themselves, but after a few bites I needed something sweet to break it up. I also think $23 for migas is insane, but at least the portion was generous.

We came on a great night when steaks and martinis were half off! It had been a few months since our last visit, but the food and service were just as excellent as we remembered. We ordered the steak frites, the chicken fried steak, and a couple of dirty gin martinis. Sitting at the bar, we received exceptional service from Ronnie and Mel. The atmosphere at Jacoby's felt warm and wholesome, and you can tell the staff genuinely enjoys what they do. Can't wait to visit again!

Great food, great service in a rustic setting. We came here with a group for Sunday brunch and had a great experience. The weather was nice so we sat outside, it was perfect. We started with a round of the cold brew, espresso martini's- they were great. The table shared the cornbread and deviled eggs topped with bacon to start, both were delightful. Someone is our group got the grits and said they were the best she has ever had. I ordered the turkey club, it was tasty but not sure I would order again. Nothing bad just nothing outstanding. Hubby got the steak and said it was phenomenal. They also have a little shop that sells cute random things. I would def return next time I'm in town. I will make sure to get the steak :)

Went for brunch on a Sunday. Real busy, we called ahead and they set aside a couple of chairs at the bar. That was typical of the service for the entire meal. It was great and it stood out. We also witnessed something real cool. Someone sitting next to use was using a debit card that was not clearing and about $5 short. After a couple of tries she discounted the bill and left enough to also tip the server. That was next level customer care. The food was also good. I ordered the avocado toast and asked to an egg on top. That was was the move the creaminess with the egg yolk and guacamole was great. It needed some heat so I added some hot sauce. I also ordered a side of cheese grits. Very nice job, they were cooked perfectly and a perfect amount of cheese blended in. They also added peppers for a slight hint of heat. Cool rustic place with nice feel. There is no self parking, you must valet. It was $6 to park. Overall good food and feel. Solid 4 to 4.5, bumping to a 5 for great customer service. Excellent experience.

Fillet mignon with up charge of grits and Brussels plus up charge of bone marrow butter

Make reversions! Especially for busy peak dinning times. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Heavy AC indoors, so bring a light jacket. Fans outdoors. Perfect sunset vibes for a romantic outdoor dinner. Lovely outdoor space that you will enjoy and take many photos in. The backdrop of the river is a nice photo op. Eclectic indoor ambiance, that's versatile for any kind of occasion--from birthdays to dates to group gatherings. Everyone will find something to enjoy about this location. Service was impeccable. Amiable and helpful staff made our experience seamless and enjoyable. Food was delicious--would gladly return to sample more menu items. Texas caviar bean trio was the simplest item we tried. A bit bland and needed more seasoning and texture (crunch--needed more onions, and smoothness--needed more avocado and oil). Skip. You can easily make this at home and jazz it up to taste. Market price NY strip comes with mash potatoes and garlic asparagus. Everything was perfectly executed--what a delight. The up charge of bone marrow butter was tasty. Market price Fillet mignon with up charge of grits and Brussels plus up charge of bone marrow butter was spot on. Perfect cuts of meat. Highly recommend it you're looking for quality protein. The grits were not worth the up charge but the Brussels were crunchy and sweet--what great texture. House made Strawberry Cake was sweet and simple. Good to share after a filling meal. You'd be a bit too full for all that sweetness if you don't split the perfectly normal portion.

I came here after having heard about it as a great brunch spot. Being a little tired and weary after my recent trip, I appreciated the friendly and efficient service here on a Sunday evening. I was able to get a table for myself on my date outside with no wait. The chicken fried steak was one of the best I've ever had -- fresh, cooked in clean oil, with a light, crispy breading that was seasoned perfectly. The mashed potatoes were creamy and topped with a delicious gravy, and the fresh cracked pepper on both the steak and potatoes was a nice touch. The cocktails were also on point. This is a great place to enjoy a meal and then relax with a drink at the seating near the river. I will definitely visit again!

Ate at this spot for brunch while visiting Austin. To our surprise, the only parking available for this establishment is against a fence along the street. Otherwise you had to valet. Nice and quaint on the inside with a gift shop type vibe at the entrance. The candles smelled so good. When we entered, the hostess asked if we had reservations which we didn't. She in turn, said we could sit outside as if it was a punishment but the weather was perfect for outside seating. She sat us at a table that was near something that was dripping water from the ceiling which I felt, so we asked to move and did. Their outside dining had a nice outdoor country type view. I ordered the chicken fried steak with gravy and waffles. Our waited said it was a popular dish. It was pretty good. The gravy was a bit bland, however. My BFF order the grilled meatloaf sandwich. She didn't like it at all, unfortunately. We didn't realize until we left that we completely forgot to get the famous strawberry cake. I do recommend giving it a try. Apparently, it's a hotspot amongst the locals.

The service was immediately welcoming. Our server had a bright and cheery attitude and expressed interest in the reason for our visit (even if he was putting just a face on it was really nice). The meats were fantastic. The quality and the seasonings were on point. The aoli sauces were also fantastic. A great place on CC!

It's like all of the people who work here watched The Bear and understood the assignment! Their staff is incredibly down to earth, welcoming, and friendly. The whole place is a vibe. Food 10/10 Well worth the $$$. My bffs sister drove in from Dallas for her bday to surprise her and the staff was in on it. They made her day so special including a strawberry cupcake with a candle. Highly recommend this unpretentious and delicious place!

We've dined at Jacoby's twice since our last review--once in March 2024 and again in October 2024. It makes perfect sense--spring and fall are the best times to enjoy their outdoor patio, especially with our pup! The back patio is one of our favorite spots, and it's even better when the weather is just right. If you can snag a table closer to the water, it's a fantastic spot to watch the sunset--especially if there's water in this stretch of the Colorado River. Just adds to the charm of dining here. Servers are always friendly too! They've changed their happy hour setup, now offering specials on Wednesdays and Thursdays instead of a standard HH. Be sure to check before you go! We've tried most of their appetizers, different cuts of steaks (including specials), and several mains--the fried chicken steak is always on point. The cocktails are tasty and reasonably priced, especially during their Wednesday Happy Hour Deal and Thursday Steak & Martinis special. Parking can be tricky since the restaurant is off Cesar Chavez, which tends to get busy, but the FREE valet is always available--a huge plus. Looking forward to our next visit!

Such a wonderful spot! The food was absolutely delicious - fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was warm and attentive without being overbearing, which made the whole experience feel welcoming and relaxed. The atmosphere is cozy but still stylish, with that Austin charm that makes you want to linger a little longer. Definitely a place I'll be coming back to!

Jacoby Beef Hash

We came to Jacoby's randomly on a Saturday looking for a brunch spot we'd never been to. We got two seats at the bar which felt really crammed (and the seats weren't super cozy) but we made it work. We were told to order the biscuits and gravy by others who've been so we did (plus an order of the deviled eggs). Probably shouldn't have ordered both because we were full. We split an entree as a result, the hash, which was delicious but we both wished there was more meat in it. The seasonal cocktails were the highlight of the meal! And the bartenders were really friendly, too. I want to come back for dinner because after sharing the experience with friends, dinner over brunch was recommended.

I thought I'd been to every famous brunch spot in Austin already, but my friend booked Jacoby's today for his going away meal, and it was such a wonderful experience from start to finish. The hostess initially sat us on the lower level of the patio, but I felt like it was more lively on the actual patio so I asked to move, and she was able to oblige almost immediately. Such great service! Our waiter was so sweet and awesome. I told him it was our friend's farewell brunch, and he brought out a really nice strawberry cupcake at the end. I honestly think the brunch food is really solid. I do love brunch but find that I don't have a strong opinion of most brunch plates I order, but today, I felt bad for wanting to eat every single bit of my chicken fried steak and waffles. I don't normally love chicken and steak because fried chicken is so heavy, but I absolutely love that they sub chicken fried steak as the main protein and also offer delicious gravy with sausage. The hardest decision is what to order for brunch--savory or sweet? For once, I was so satisfied because the gravy and sausage were savory but the maple syrup with the waffle was sweet. I tried some of my friends' steak and eggs and brisket benny, and both were also very delicious. Everything was super well cooked. My three friends and I also shared a carafe mimosa, and it was pretty strong. Not badly priced either for two full bottles of champagne. Service was on par--shoutout to our waiter! From the hostess to a staff member who took our photos..Jacoby's is definitely up there on my favorite brunch spots. I will be back!!!

I forgot to take a picture but obviously it was bomb

Typically, how long is the wait for weekend brunch with No reservation?

I've waited an hour, but worth making a reservation if you can!

What’s seating like? Is there a good bit of indoor seating? Seems like mainly outdoor seating....

There's an indoor/outdoor patio that's pretty fully covered. It honestly feels a lot more indoor than outdoor

Do you think it's okay to bring a well behaved 5 year old for an early Saturday dinner (5pm??)

Yes

What is the parking situation? Is there self parking?

Complimentary valet. Very easy!

We added lavender to mine and a little brown sugar flavor to hers. Good stuff! Turkish egg? Yep, exactly what I was thinking. What in the world is that. I don't know if it was a traditional dish but what an explosion of flavor. Put it all together on a perfectly toasted piece of bread and bam! Perfect accompaniment to a perfect brunch. Last but not least the Salmon Gravlax. Looks simple but by no means did it taste simple. Caviar on a buttery spread. Spicy pickles, perfectly cooked egg, seasoned tomatoes, rye bread. None of these are special in themselves but when combined, yes! Amazingness! Oh and the service? Wonderful! Attentive, kind, knowledgeable and welcoming. Space? Super cute! Felt like we were in a vacation town somewhere in Florida. Very retro, cool. Loved everything about this place. Zero complaints. Millions of compliments. Highly recommend!

Fabulous! My friend…read moreTiffany told me about Anthem on Rainy Street. Neither of us had been, and also it's been years since we've been on Rainy Street. So we thought we would make a whole night of it. Tiffany did make reservations for us for 7pm and even though this is a bar hopping neighborhood, even at 7pm it was pretty busy. Streets were full of people. Anthem had a vibe. I felt the energy as soon as I waked in. The cozy booths with the U shaped seating with plush green velvet fabric. Wait staff wore Hawaiian shirts. Sitting up behind me on a ledge was the Easter Island statue. Insert (Night At The Museum) here, dumb dumb give me gum gum. Anthem was our first stop tonight. Just drinks and a dinner. I ordered the Peach Fuzzy drink. Not too sweet, refreshing, peachy, and beautiful garnish of a flower. I ordered the Yummy Fries which looked like a salad. Gorgeous presentation. Fries were actually waffle sweet potatoes. Pickled ginger, sesame seeds, furikake, aïoli and a few other wonderful ingredients. Could not get over how beautiful everything looked. Presentation outstanding. Service delightful. Had a wonderful time at Anthem. We both did use the ladies rooms before leaving. The sound and TVs were all pretty great for watching the game, and they had a ton of space. During the game we shared the Fried Pickles, which were crispy and well breaded with good pickle chips, as well as their Green Chili Queso, which was also excellent. The chips had good seasoning and the queso was thick. For a main entrée, I ordered the patty melt. It was melty with good flavor, but I would have preferred chopped onions over sliced onions. The Sriracha mayo was great and added a kick I was not expecting. The drinks were decently priced for East 6th all things considered. I was not drinking that night and ordered a mocktail variation of their Lavender Haze using zero proof Empress gin instead of the regular Empress gin.
