Without question, our Launderette dinner tonight was the best meal that my wife and I have had during our one week vacation in Texas. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. The chicken thighs and broccolini were grilled to perfection. My wife's hamburger was juicy and delicious with tasty homemade pickles. The french fries were divine. And, to top it all off, the very unique carrot cake with toasted, honey ice cream was the best I've ever tasted Our server, John, was fabulous. He really made us feel welcome and provided us with many tips about what to do and where to eat in Austin. I especially appreciate his sharing how orange wine is made. We were staying near the Austin airport and wanted a great dinner spot that wasn't overly far. The Launderette ended up being one of the highlights of the trip. The food was incredibly creative while still feeling approachable and shareable. Every dish felt thoughtful and unique without being overcomplicated. The burrata with curry was unreal, the beet hummus was packed with flavor, the shrimp was perfect, and the desserts completely lived up to the hype. One of those menus where you immediately want to order more just to try everything. The atmosphere is also part of what makes it special. Yum yum yum! Came for the first time for my friend's birthday brunch and was pleasantly surprised. Every single dish was packed with new flavors and combinations that just worked. The asparagus Benny just made so much sense when you think about it. Eggs Benedict requires hollandaise and asparagus with hollandaise is always delicious. Launderette. My hands were busy here. It started with sweeping the seats clear as I awkwardly scooched in to my seat on the corner booth bench. Then I was busy waving flies away from my drink and food (we were seated indoors). I waved my hands several times trying to get the attention of our server. The food was overpriced. We had the $32 chicken (good), $28 pasta (this is like a flaky filled focaccia, was quite good), $18 burger (eh not good), brussel sprouts (delicious), broccolini (so so), zucchini salad (ok), carrot cake (delicious), and birthday cake ice cream sandwich (the real reason we came! I pass Launderette all the time on my way to kayak at Lady Bird Lake, so I finally chose it for lunch with a coworker. Definitely make a reservation if you can, this place stays busy. Parking is limited, but there's usually street parking nearby. The space is super cute and well decorated, with a great East Austin vibe. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, which is perfect for Austin's weather. I ordered the fried shrimp and frites, and everything was fresh and delicious. You can tell they care about quality. Service was impeccable, attentive and smooth without being over the top. I was too full for dessert this time, but I'll be back to try more of the menu, especially the birthday cake ice cream sandwhich. Had lunch at The Launderette on the east side of Austin with a work colleague and really enjoyed the entire experience. The atmosphere is fantastic, the staff is genuinely friendly, and it is just an easy, comfortable place to spend a couple hours. We started with the potato chips and pimento cheese. Exactly what you would expect. House made kettle chips and solid pimento cheese. Simple and good. We also both ordered Americanos and the coffee was excellent. Very hot, fresh, and full of flavor. I ordered the steak sammie and thought it was pretty solid overall. My only minor complaint is that it was not quite as hot as I would have liked when it came out, but flavor wise it was still enjoyable. The real standout was dessert. I ordered the apple streusel sundae and it was absolutely fantastic. Easily the best thing I had there. Warm, comforting, and perfectly balanced. If you go here, do yourself a favor and order it with a coffee. It is the kind of dessert you remember after you leave. Came here with a friend recently and had a good experience. We arrived around 12:45 without a reservation and our party of two was seated within 10 minutes on a Sunday. We waited in a lounge and it was really enjoyable since it was sunny and we could order drinks while waiting. Service was nice, no complaints. A bit conflicted on this one - 3 stars feels a bit harsh, but as I reflect on this meal, I felt like there just wasn't anything that impressive but it was a bit pricey. The service was great, and the presentation of dishes was good, but everything else felt very average. Our table of 7 ordered every entree on the wood grill and the specialties, except for the burger. We also got 2 items from the snacky bits and veggies each. This may be a personal taste thing, but I do not recommend the cappelletti. I have to say that I was extraordinarily excited to try Launderette out for lunch and made a reservation two weeks in advance. I was celebrating my graduation with my mentor and wanted to have a special meal (and I heard this is exactly where I should go)! While I read it was nearly necessary to book a reservation, this was not the case upon arrival. There was plenty of parking and there were countless empty tables. The restaurant was clean except for the hostess podium which was a mess. A waitress was fumbling menus when I arrived at the podium and told me she "didn't work as a hostess" and that she was sorry that I'd have to wait before she looked up my reservation. Fine, that was okay. After my reservation was pulled up, I was sat by the pseudo-hostess-waitress and was wished a happy graduation. It was a kind gesture. She asked what I studied and I gladly told her. Soon enough, our waitress arrived and also expressed her congrats and confirmed that we were both dairy-free diners. This would be vital to the whole experience. We looked at the menu and decided on cortados to start. They were absolutely delicious! We were told which of the limited options could be made dairy free...and they were limited. We ordered the Turkey Club without butter on the bread and the Sticky Brussels as well as the Frites. All of it was okay, nothing spectacular. The whole menu seems to be aioli-forward so that was exactly what we experienced. The challah was not as good as expected, the brussels were decent with a kick of serrano peppers, and the frites (french fries) were just okay. Everything was simply edible and decent. Other than the cortados, nothing was spectacular. Maybe we should have gotten the Steak Sammie...maybe we just shouldn't eat here if we are trying to eat dairy-free (they don't even have any dairy-free dessert options). Essentially, my praise goes to our waitress who kept the water pouring and the cortados coming. She was extraordinarily detailed in her understanding of where dairy hid within the menu and kitchen! She sent us down the road to Gati's for dessert and that was the best thing that came out of this dining experience. I do not understand the hype but maybe I just didn't eat the right things. Made reservations for Sunday brunch at noon a couple of days before,unfortunately the only option was patio. Got seated quickly and the brunch menu was very straight forward, ordered some pastries and mains. The pastries came out quickly, but then it took another maybe 40-50 minutes for our main entrees to come out which was pretty long and uncomfortable since we were sitting in the outside heat with no direct fans or mist. We went through our water pretty quickly and the conditions just became brutal as we were finishing our meal. I could only say outstanding things about the key lime Kouign-amann. The Salmon gravalax was a nice light meal but for how simple it was, it really shouldn't have taken that long to come out. I understand Sunday brunch gets pretty busy but the tables around us who came in after got their dishes before ours. Considering that this is one of Austin's favorite brunch places (Michelin recommended), it was a miss for me. Maybe it was a bad day or we (bad) lucked out with the patio seating to begin with. I was in the area for a work conference and looked through Yelp and other sites for a place for dinner and came upon Launderette. Fun fact that the space they occupy was a laundry mat. Ordered the Tempura Snap Peas. This could have been a great dish but they left the string on the snap peas which made it more difficult to eat. For the price point, I personally feel they should have taken the time to prep the peas. The Bistro Steak dish was solid. Could have used a bit more sauce for the steak. The Calamansi Cheesecake was a nice surprise. I like tart so I could have used more calamansi flavor since the blueberry sauce did cover the flavor a bit. read more

Launderette blew us away. We started with the burrata, and it was perfection. The focaccia that came with it was so good and buttery. For my entrée, I ordered the cappelletti. Also incredible - the thin sheets of cheese on top were such a great touch, and the sauce was so delicate yet full of flavor. Others at the table ordered the brick chicken and flat iron steak. I've gone back and forth on wanting to try Launderette, especially since it's been praised by the James Beard Awards and most recently recognized in the Michelin Guide. But... every time I peek at the menu, nothing really jumps out at me. I made the leap and I hate to say... it was as lackluster and as underwhelming as I expected. I opted for the Salmon Gravlax, which sounded divine... but upon receiving my order, it was essentially a deconstructed lox and schmear with bread followed by accompaniments. We started with the burrata, which is decadent. Roasted eggplant and fried curry leaves plus crunchy pistachios made for an extra special starter. BF decided on the Wagyu steak, medium rare. Some nice pockets of fat that made the steak bites extra rich. The star of the show was the grilled Bronzino. A mild and flaky fish is brought to life with a piquant vinegar, marinated onion, and sliced almond topping. Very generous portion we couldn't even finish. Grilled broccolini for the side was the perfect choice. A Peruvian pepper sauce brightens up this dish. Do not forget to order dessert! The best pastry stuff in Austin works here. We decided on a red raspberry shortbread pie. It was out of this world and not too sweet. Highly recommend their espresso martini for an after dinner drink. Upon sitting we noticed it was a little over air-conditioned. However our server Trevor noticed and kept trying to turn down the AC for us which we appreciated. It's American style small plates and shareables so we did the crudo, burrata, acorn squash as appetizers and the chicken, cauliflower and whole branzino fish as our mains. For dessert, we got the calamansi basque cheesecake which was a decent size and light. Trevor very kindly put a candle in it for my birthday! All the food was very good, especially the branzino. We would definitely come back for that. My only cons are we decided to order some extra focaccia bread to mop up all the lovely sauces, which they charged $4 for one slice and we found pretty steep. They also charged for the birthday dessert which is not a complaint per se but removes Laundrette from my birthday list. Other restaurants (ie Uchi/Uchiko) have very kindly given me an app AND dessert for my birthday so I'm a little spoiled. I did not have a reservation so I got seated at the bar. The hostess let me know that I had to be done by 8p which was ok since all I wanted was a light diner. I ordered at 6:50p and my food was served pretty soon after. The margarita was super delicious. It was made with in-house agave and I opted for a tajin rim. The lettuces is a salad made with different types of lettuces and served with a brown butter vinaigrette. I definitely recommend 10/10. The fried shrimp was ginormous and very lightly breaded which is my preference. They were perfectly crunchy on the outside and really delicious. The sauce that comes with the shrimp has a surprising little kick on the back end of each bite. The potions are quite generous and ideal for anyone that loves to share. If you're a food sharer and love a great margarita, I definitely recommend. During my visit, there was plenty of parking on site and on adjacent streets. It was on a Friday evening. The only downside to my visit was the inconsistency with allocating a time limit. Came here this past Sunday for brunch on a bachelorette trip. The atmosphere is really nice and quiet. The staff was friendly upon arrival. There wasn't a huge menu which made it pretty easy to order. I wish that they had more coffee selections as far as flavors go. I've been to Launderette several times over the years, and it's always a reliable choice for brunch. This former laundromat-turned-café is incredibly popular on weekends, so reservations are a must especially for larger parties, as the space isn't very big. The best seating is on the patio when the weather is nice, but since it was a chilly weekend, I opted to sit indoors. I ordered the buttermilk pancakes, which come with a delicious blueberry compote and the cutest syrup poured in the shape of a cat. Their brunch and lunch menu also features a variety of sandwiches and bowl dishes. While I haven't been for dinner, they do offer heartier options in the evening. The food here is simple yet well-executed, reasonably priced, and paired with friendly service. My personal recommendation? One of my favorite things about Austin is the ability to reimagine former properties and businesses. A great example is Launderette which is a former laundromat. What a wonderful concept. My last visit was on Easter for brunch and the pastry of the day reflected the holiday. It was a lovely cake log layered with a fresh cream filling, topped with a Cadbury Mini Egg and whipped topping. The blueberry maple compote buttermilk pancakes are to die for. They are thick but not so thick that they're dense and uneventful. In fact, quite the opposite as they have just the right amount of fluff making each bite taste like a heavenly little pillow. The Asparagus Benny-eggs [ (poached) and asparagus on sourdough English muffins with ham and hollandaise.] is the ultimate egg breakfast and a fun twist on a classic. The Plancha Burger for dinner is perfect for sharing. My boyfriend and I will split it with a side of fries and the roasted beet salad. We couldn't even finish the whole thing between the two of us. I had the asparagus benny and she had the pulled pork shoulder hash. The Benny had prosciutto in lieu of Canadian bacon(nice touch). I actually thought her dish was slightly better bc the pulled pork was seasoned so well and was incredibly flavorful Ended up not getting desserts out of being stuffed and subbed our dessert for two mimosas instead, which we thought was a good call. Launderette is inviting from the moment you walk in. It has a great aesthetic to it and the staff were welcoming. We sat in an outdoor lounge area while we waited for our table. It was a very inviting space. The mimosa tasted very fresh!! Our server was attentive. The food was very fresh and delicious. It was great from beginning to end. Had dinner at the bar this past weekend, and I couldn't have been more impressed. After all of these years Launderette is still making awesome food & drinks. Everything was perfect. The Burrata and the Acorn Squash were out of this world and the main dishes were packed with flavor! We had the Red Fish and the Plancha Burger - highly recommend both! Haley was our bartender and server, and she was absolutely exceptional! She truly goes above and beyond. Thank you for making our experience so special. Definitely will be coming back! read more
