Breakfast Plate (18). Yum!!!!!! (I didn't need the ketchup. Everything was seasoned sooo well).

How has this review been sitting in my drafts??? A friend suggested we meet up here for a Sunday brunch. It was the most beautiful day! And the most beautiful spot to sit outside and eat delicious food!! The location was in an unexpected, "hidden" location in a neighborhood. The property, inside and out, was gorgeous. The service was fantastic. Super friendly, fast, and helpful. I NEED to go back!!

Everything we wanted and a little bit more.had made reservations a while ago in anticipation of my husband's 50th birthday had completely spaced on the fact that it was SXSW weekend you would never have known from the calm, cool, collected staff, provided absolutely stellar service. Our server was amazing. The setting is stunning. The peacocks were out in their full regalia, including Han Solo...ask the team if you're unsure. Perfectly crafted drinks, exquisite food, and a beautiful setting, all in the heart of downtown Austin thank you for your care and what turned out to be the perfect dinner.

Mattie's is a beautiful vintage space with lots of outdoor seating and a beautiful peacock who roams the space. Their julep, shrimp and grits and biscuits and gravy were great. We enjoyed our time there and the service provided.

Always a delight to dine at Mattie's. Took my dad and his girlfriend to brunch. They loved the property, food, and attentive service, We started with pimento cheese spread, and the fried green tomatoes with crab. Very rich treat. My dad tried the breakfast plate and his girlfriend had salad. I enjoyed the farm salad with salmon. The server suggest that I try the preserve lemon dressing, which was perfect. Don't forget to wave to the peacocks.

First let me tell you, I don't pay attention to where we were going to brunch and screamed with excitement pulling in and seeing the beautiful peacocks walking the property!! OMGosh! They are so beautiful and magnificent! The restaurant itself is so nice too. It's beautifully decorated and rebuilt to retain its original charm. Our waitress was very happy and bubbly and seemed to love the food here. I started with a mimosa, which was good but seemed like I was getting someone's left over glass since it was only maybe half full. We got the biscuits and strawberry butter to start. The biscuits were not warm and the honey drizzle was everywhere. The knife and the edges of the plate they brought with it was covered in it so we were covered in it. The burrata and peaches salad was ok. The peaches were not great, some had an overly fake smoke taste while some had zero taste altogether. I had the bread pudding French toast with strawberry rhubarb compote and it was very good but very sweet. I would tell any sweet loving person to get that. My husband got the bowl and he enjoyed the cucumber salad in it. All in all the ambience was a 5 star but the food and drink 3.

This is a truly unique dining experience in Austin! You pull into the driveway and are immediately greeted by many peacocks - there was even a baby peacock while we were there. The trees are beautiful as well with a setting that makes you feel as if you are far outside of the city. The restaurant itself is inside of a historic home which gives it a super cozy atmosphere. We ordered the biscuits, shrimp & grits, grilled chicken, and risotto. Everything was delicious, but our favorites were the biscuits and chicken. The chicken came with an amazing burrata salad on the side that really stood out.

Overall tonight Mattie's was a miss. This was my third time at the restaurant and the other occasions have been much better. The ambiance is 5/5, great restaurant with plenty of parking and wait staff is very nice. If you arrive early there is a bar you can get a drink even order food. We got a few appetizers tonight which were all good: Peaches and burrata Pimiento cheese Carrots Most of the table got the steak frites. This dish for the entire table was completely oversalted. The French fries were inedible for everyone there was so much salt. Literally. The steak also had too much salt. Serving a $40+ meal that was salted too heavily for an upscale restaurant needs to be fixed. I would be surprised if this was an isolated incident.

What a fantastic find! Even though it was raining it was such a cool building to have brunch in! I thought the food was really good, although some others didn't love their food...I can't wait to come back and try other things. Def a spot to bring friends/family when they are visiting. It's one of those places where you're just like...."i love austin".. only thing to really ding them for is the auto grat..kinda lame but won't affect me.

My friend and I had our birthday brunch here, and this was the perfect setting. I made the reservation one month out as soon as it opened up because it fills up quickly. There were amazing vibes and excellent service. Mattie's is located in a cute house that my friend said looks like one of those historical houses you go on a school field trip to. The outside gives major Southern plantation vibes, although it's probably just the Southern farmhouse look. The food was great but not amazing, and maybe it's because Southern food is not one of my cuisines of choice, but I have enjoyed Southern food before. I ordered the fried chicken eggs benedict, and two of my friends opted for the same dish. The chicken and biscuits were great, but the sauce was so heavy, and there was so much of it. It had a little bit of an odd flavour. The side salad that it comes with was not appetizing to any of us. I ate it all, but I did not enjoy it. I happily saved leftovers from my fried chicken eggs benedict since the portion was so large. My friends ordered the green chile pork chilaquiles, flat iron steak and eggs, and brioche cinnamon rolls. I got to try all of them. The cinnamon rolls were such a warm and delicious starter. I thought the green chile pork chilaquiles were really good. I wasn't a big fan of the chimichurri sauce on the steak and eggs, but my friend really liked it. I think that entree is good if you really, really love meat/protein because there are no vegetables. I put in my reservation that we were celebrating two birthdays, and the server brought out two little chocolate mousse cakes, which was so sweet of them. They were beautiful with a candle on each and little happy birthday signs made out of chocolate. The service was impeccable, although I read that may not have been the case for other reviewers. I had a fantastic birthday brunch experience here, and I would highly recommend Mattie's for a special occasion. We each paid an average of $30 plus tip. We were able to take such nice photos outside the restaurant with beautiful trees in the background.

Food: ok to preface this.... I am from the South. And I have a certain expectation of southern cuisine. So for me, it wasn't the best I ever had, but wasn't terrible either. You could tell food was made with quality ingredients. Portions large. My husband had the creamy spring ricotta (no meat). Surprising it was a little spicy. I had the fried chicken, mash potato and salad. The chicken batter was kind of bland to me but clearly the chicken had been marinated in some type of hot sauce. So it had a kick but not a crunchy skin flavor (if that makes sense?! I'm biased to Gus's or T22 for my fried chicken). Our server recommended their biscuits (2) with honey and pumpkin maple butter were good. My 3 yr old devoured his buttered noodles. For dessert we had the hummingbird cake. Again not bad but not really a wow. One word of caution if you bring children- the juice choices were orange and grapefruit which my son doesn't drink, and the server offered lemonade. Just know that a kids' lemonade is $6 and it's not sweetened, it's basically lemon squeezed into water. So my son didn't drink it at all. A waste on our part and we didn't know until we got the bill. I usually travel with his liquids but forgot this time, so this was on us. But $6 for a kids size drink is a tad bit ridiculous if you ask me. Service: excellent service. Server seemed knowledgeable and experienced with questions about the menu. Timely and frequent check ins. Ambience: unique and beautiful property located in an 1800s farmhouse. Feels like stepping back in time from urban Austin that surrounds it. Of course the big draw is the free ranging peacocks. The peacocks didn't really approach or bother. Visually just there and chilling. Valet parking available.

Amazing interior and great for gatherings. The restaurant has many rooms inside a large property which feels cozy like a home. Service was great, couldn't have been better. We got couple apps, biscuits and fried green tomatoes. Had a larger party so got to try a bit of everything. Duck was my favorite and they cooked both steaks to perfection. Every entree was nicely done I will say I was impressed with their sides/veggies and big portions. Their desserts were well done too. I wasn't a huge fan of both appetizers, biscuits were a bit dry imo.

I had the most fantastic dinner at Mattie's with my fiancé for my birthday. It was our first time coming and we were hoping to see the peacocks but it was dark out to they were asleep sadly, but our dinner more than made up for missing them! The restaurant is a beautiful home with a super interesting history, they gave us a pamphlet to read about it which was lovely. Our server was excellent and we were seated immediately with our reservation. We started with the vodka back porch tea, we're not a huge fan of sweet drinks and this one was perfect, not sweet at all. We had the octopus special with mole for our appetizer which was our favorite thing we tried! We heard it was a brand new menu item so I hope they keep it. For our main course I had the fried chicken, which came with mashed potatoes and salad - it was fantastic and very generous portion sizes. My fiancé got the grilled chicken with panzanella salad, the grilled chicken was huge!! He really enjoyed it but liked my chicken and salad better. For desert the brought me a birthday cake which was delicious. We will definitely be back to check out brunch and see the peacocks during the day. My fiancé said this may be his favorite restaurant in Austin!

We came to celebrate a birthday and had a great time! The property is beautiful and perfect for any special occasion. The items with (v) on their menu can be made vegan - I ordered the avocado toast with a side of potatoes which were very good. Service was very kind and attentive, we will definitely be back!

He was doing all sorts of things to try and flirt with her and make her laugh: pulling out and showing her buckets of pre mixed cocktails, running and sliding under the bar, etc. She was engaging with both of us , and right in the middle of that, I get cut off out of nowhere. No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. I left and asked the bouncer on my way out if I seemed drunk. This was literally two minutes later. He said no, not at all, and asked me why I would even ask that. I then told him exactly what happened and asked him to let the owner or whoever was in charge know about this extremely unprofessional conduct so they can discipline the bartender. His response was that the bartender has discretion to cut anyone off, and let me know the bartender is supposedly married so he couldn't have been flirting with any of the customers. Well, sounds like his logic is flawed--not only COULD he flirt with his customers, he WAS, and was therefore cheating. I hope his wife finds out. This is perfectly representative of Austin customer service lately and not normal in other places. I was in Tampa for an entire month earlier this year and this would've been unthinkable there. I'm not coming back.

It's a rainy night in Austin. My girlfriend is in town because my cousin and her fiancé are getting…read moremarried in Austin. It's also the weekend of our one year anniversary. An hour ago it wasn't raining, but now it's pouring. A few months ago, I heard of a newer bar and experience called Equipment Room just right off of South Congress. Music means everything to me. Nothing can express emotions and instill a feeling in 3 minutes like a song can. I live for that. Equipment Room is inherently Japanese in concept. Existing in Japan for over 50 years, listening bars combine high fidelity audio equipment with impressively crafted cocktails and alcohol combining the passion of music in a space to gather with comfortable chairs and a beautiful atmosphere. The concept has expanded westward as all cool things inevitably do, but I would never think a spot would be successful in Austin like it would be in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and so on. As I back my car into a parking spot on South Congress, I grab the umbrella out of my trunk and walk my girlfriend and me to the entrance trying to not get ourselves soaked in the process. This is not the first time we have tried to go to Equipment Room. We tried to get a walk-in table just to see out of morbid curiosity and that was a failure. I booked her and me a table for this night and I was madly looking forward to it. As we got to the small entrance, we were introduced to the hostess who brought us from the stairs into the main underground space and to our seats on the couch in a large wraparound sofa with other parties sitting near us. The music is faint from the entrance, but once you walk through the main walkway, a wave of sound hits your eardrums. You're immediately engrossed into the music like walking into a concert hall or putting a fresh pair of headphones on for the first time. As we sat down, selections from Outkast's Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik were playing through the speakers. Our hostess introduced us to their "User Manual" (their menu) where it contained all the snacks and drinks you could get your grubby hands on. There's more than just drinks and food on the menu. The first page introduces the concept and gives a few house rules. The second page shows all the equipment this so-called room has, from the premium Klipsch speakers, their preamps and amplifiers as well as their turntables and mixers. It's a dream page for music nerds. I want a $15k speaker in my apartment, but those noise complaints would never end. Our waitress came by shortly to give us water and take our order. Their menu is quite expansive, but the main pages we were told to check out were their A-side drinks or the classics and their B-side drinks, which are more experimental. We had to go with experimental for starters because who knows when you'll get to try something similar again. I started with a Goca Dünya while my girlfriend ordered a Deceptacon. The Goca Dünya was a vodka based floral drink with pistachio foam and Amaro Nonino, an Italian herbal liqueur. The Deceptacon was a rum-based cacao drink with a touch of lime and mint. It took a little time for our drinks to come out, clearly, as they are quite intricate. I loved my drink, bluntly. The pistachio foam was a great balance to the herbal flavors at the bottom. My girlfriend and I continued to enjoy each other's company as the music continued. The space we were in was decorated with posters and memorabilia from legendary artists coming through Austin and some general music decor like that purple album from that Prince guy. The DJ-curator that night was on a tear playing incredible soul music holding the bar hostage with a taste of funk. Jimmy Smith came next before transitioning to a few tracks from Bobbie Gentry. The last albums he pulled out were Steely Dan's Aja (a stone cold classic) and Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life (a top 10 album of all time). Not only was he playing classics like Isn't She Lovely, but he threw down some deeper cuts like Black Man and Contusion. Incredible. We both got another drink with my girlfriend getting their A-Side Espresso Martini while I got the Brown Sugar from their B-Sides. It was a seaweed and mushroom infused whiskey with a few more bells and whistles and it was super unique. Quite a bit of their menu is Japanese-inspired in homage to the originators of listening bars. This includes Japanese beer, sake, and Japanese-inspired food and beverages on their menu. Very cool. The worst part of the night came when our hour and 45 minute reservation came to a close. I could've stayed there for another 3 hours and never grown tired, but with how popular this space has become, they gotta kick you out at some point. This is an experience you have to have. It's worth it. I'll be strolling back in soon enough because there is nothing like this in Austin and it's truly a special space. RIYL: Actively listening to music.

They play no digital music and their speakers are installed throughout the whole building. The sound is great! The menu was so cute and on theme. The furniture and decor is mid century modern. I went here for my birthday and they gave my table a round of Sake shots, which was nice! My table ordered drinks: the Brown Sugar, Goca Dünya, Suffer No Fool (non alcoholic), Vitamin C. They were all delicious and they did not skimp on the alcohol! It was well balanced! I seriously recommend the Goca Dünya--that pistachio foam was addictive! For food, we got the Cheese board to have something to pick on and we demolished it, haha. It came with marmalade and crackers. The cheeses were great, along with the dried fruits and nuts. The cheese selections seem to rotate every other season, which is cool.

Basically, I had a large group reserved for a celebration, and I didn't get a confirmation email and when I noticed this I scrambled to find another reservation. The reservation link I was sent to kept erroring out when I tried to process it. Apparently the incorrect date was selected and I did not notice I was charged an exorbitant amount of money because it was a larger party, but we had every intention of going and we would have spent quite a bit of money. After being charged a $120 no show fee I tried to contact them to see if they could at least squeeze us in or take the no show fee off but they said their policy was clearly stated and they don't respond to my last email. Also, there is no phone number which is incredibly frustrating as I would have called to confirm my 5:30pm reservation issue, but instead just assumed it didn't go through While part of this was undoubtedly user error, the process of reserving and confirming reservations was not easy. Furthermore, the establishment was not overly understanding Some tips: Go to a different bar. There are so many great bars, lounges, and speakeasy's in the area, and I wouldn't risk the potential hassle. We pivoted to the Roosevelt room last minute and we had a great time Cheers!
