We were asked to leave our table promptly at the 90-minute mark from when our reservation was supposed to begin; not factoring the time we lost at the table due to it not being ready for us. But it was more important to the Powder Room that the next group got their table on time, apparently. The drinks took soooo long, we got ONE round in, and were asked to leave the table before our second round arrived. They had no issues when taking our second round order while we were seated, but we were asked to leave the table immediately after. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience here. My partner and I walked in around 10:30pm and the place was already packed. If you want to sit down, then I recommend getting a reservation. On a Saturday night, walk-ins were standing room only. The inside is gorgeous, and I loved the elevated jungle theming. The drinks were also fabulous. I tried the Garden Party and the Sonny & Cher. Both were winners. The DJ they had that night was good. The no phone policy really encourages everyone to talk to each other. My only critique is that the music is too loud for the space, so you had to speak really loudly to be heard. I was invited by a friend to attend a 1950s-themed murder mystery in The Power Room (back room of Manny's Bar.) My first challenge was deciding what to wear. One thing was transparently clear, I was not about to spend money on an outfit that I would never use again. After some extensive "research" (mainly googling 1950s fashion and perusing my closet), I pieced together a respectable 1950s outfit. Upon entering The Power Room, we were instructed to surrender our cell phones. Wait...what? My phone is essentially my life line. I exhaled as I reluctantly handed over my phone. In addition, the event required a two-drink minimum, and the food options were fairly limited. Our server did an outstanding job keeping everyone's orders straight. Considering our group size, she deserved kudos. Drinks and food were good. At the end of the evening, awards were distributed for Best Suspect, Best Death Scene, and the team that successfully solved the murder mystery. One of our friends won Best Death Scene, proving that if you're going to be murdered, you should at least go out with flair. Now for our team... We were so excited to check out this secrete lounge. It did not disappoint. Just go through Manny's, the sandwich shop, and you'll immediately see two metal doors right by the refrigerator. Come prepared to separate from your cell phones for an hour or so. Not going to lie, I had to prep myself mentally for a year before coming here. It's manageable. You are encouraged to converse with your party instead of looking at your phones. The ambiance is warm, peach, cozy, not over the top. Feels like you are inside a jungle with tropical greeneries and exotic big cats and birds as the main decor. We got a corner booth with extremely comfortable seats (always a plus in my book!) Great for an intimate dinner date or girls night out. It was on a Saturday night featuring a live DJ who also played a guitar. Music was lowkey Miami night club-ish. Great turnout at 6:00 pm! The powder room stalls are unisex. Service was decent. Though, the servers wore low cut leopard print uniforms. We got our drinks and appetizers pretty quickly. They have several drinks on HH and even some snacks that were also on HH. We were not hungry seeing as we just came from a late lunch but we could not resist the grilled cheese and tomato soup. It was delicious! The vibe is cozy and trendy. Definitely come dressed to impress. We got "kicked out" of our cool table as there was a reservation. We knew this ahead of time so we really weren't kicked out. Our lovely waitress reserved us two spots at the bar so we were able to have a bar experience as well. Let me start by saying that my first experience here was fabulous, which is exactly why I wanted to come back. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was extremely disappointing and honestly embarrassing. When it came time to pay, my friends and I decided I would just put everything on my card. After I handed him my card and filled in the tip, he told me my card didn't work and asked the other two girls if they had a card instead. I told him it shouldn't have been declined, but I did have another card, which he took, clearly upset. That's when he told me there was a mandatory 20% tip that had to be added to the bill. At that point, I realized he had lied about my card. I had left a 15% tip because the service simply didn't warrant more, especially for what felt like bar service. He brought this up in front of my friends, who then started asking what was going on. I explained that he was refusing to run my card unless I changed the tip to 20%. Not wanting to make a big scene in front of my friends, I reluctantly agreed, even though I told him it was dishonest. To "make up for it," he later brought me a cookie. After this incident, I called the establishment at least five times and left messages, but management never returned my calls. To make matters worse, the charge from the first credit card, the one he claimed was "declined", was pending on my account for three days. So clearly it was never declined. Very disappointing. I stumbled upon this place by accident after seeing a crowd of people gathered around a place that clearly did not match the clientele. I could not tell who was working there and who was just hanging around so I tried to go in, at which point a woman stopped me from entering the building and asked what I was doing. I asked what this place was and she told me it was the powder room, which I had seen pictures of online, and realized it was more hidden than I thought. I asked if I could go in and she said they recommend reservations, but that I could go in tonight, though she seemed to be trying to dissuade me. I made my way in and there were a few small groups of people still hanging around but it was mostly empty. The aesthetic is very cool, and definitely a warm loungy vibe, but it oddly clashes with the DJ and really loud music. It's like it doesn't know whether it wants to be a club or a speakeasy. It seems like the kind of place to sit around and have conversation but it would be very hard to do so. I got a drink from the bartender. Asked for the cocktail menu, and was given a falling apart magazine. Props for creativity, but it seemed a bit impractical. I don't remember which of the drinks I tried, but they had some creative choices to choose from and I enjoyed the one I had. I went off to the side of the bar to take some photos and was harshly reprimanded from someone on the staff for doing so. After reading other reviews I see people have their phones taken away by the hostess, I was never asked by anyone to turn in my phone. I understand the idea, but in practice that seems a bit insane. Like what if there's an emergency and someone needs to get a hold of you. Informing people and requesting to put their phone away ought to be enough. She walked us through the menu like we were VIPs, and when she told us she actually hangs here on her nights off with her girlfriends, I knew we were in good hands. Naturally, we ordered whatever she gets, and it did not disappoint. The cocktails were exotic and absolutely stunning. You don't just drink them--you admire them first like they're little pieces of art. I was with my best friend who recently moved to Austin who's again is a breathtakingly fabulous Mexican/Iranian who turns every room into his personal runway. Not to say I don't slay in my own right, but when we go out together, it's a full production. This place matched our energy perfectly. The crowd was eclectic and sexy, and everyone looked like they either own a yacht or at least have access to one. Now, I would love to give this place five stars, and maybe I will next time, but I have to admit, the vibe felt a little cold when we went. My favorite out of the three was the last word. The espresso martini was a good, not too strong drink which sometimes I feel businesses have a hard time finding that balance with that type of drink. This place probably has the best bar food I have personally experienced and all the food is half off for happy hour and 10000000% worth it. I ate the tuna tostadas and short rib quesadilla. The tostada was flavorful and slightly spicy while the quesadilla was good and smoky but definitely needed the green sauce to make it extra delicious. A true escape from your day to day life to really be in the moment with those you came with. The Powder Room had me feeling my Studio 54 vibes with all the amazing decor and aesthetic of the 70s and I'm here for it. Powder Room is in the business for creating memories and not being distracted from everyday technology. I'm not sure about y'all but there isn't anything that irks me more than to be at a table where just about everyone is doom scrolling and can't be away from their phone. When you're ushered to your table you are first asked to hand over your phone and they will lock them away for you. As you go down the sultry hallway, you're then welcomed by one of the most beautiful bars and lounges in town. That jaguar is just screaming opulence and tbh I hope it's adorned with a diamond necklace one day. The menus are these campy magazines that even feature articles including zodiac calendar readings, legit local ads, and so much more. The drinks and small bites were fantastic and thank you for creating such an intentional zero proof and low abv menu! Great concept and glad I read reviews before hand to be aware of phones being held at the front before being sat. While they mention a dress code, didn't seem to be enforced very well. Granted it was early in the evening around 5:30pm. So maybe things change later on. The initial arrival was warm and friendly and we got sat right away in a cozy booth area. Service was lack luster with no one checking on us until after something was said. Chevon was the staff member we ordered with and she seemed to be preoccupied with other items. The interactions were rushed and not genuine. Drinks were tasty too! Don't recall what exactly we had since I couldn't take a pic. lol the lighting was a bit low so read the menu by candle light. We ordered the chips and dip which were both a tasty snack to go along with the drinks. Restrooms are shared but have nice individual. When the check came, we chuckled a bit as they have a QR code to scan and pay....however, y'all got our phones! So how does that work? I'd go back and make a reservation for later in the evening to see the vibe. And try a couple different drinks. read more

Recommend having reservations so you get a table vs standing around the bar. Once you arrive they take your phone and lock it up. It's a no cell phone bar, which was nice. The downside is it is SOOO loud. If they expect people to talk to each other because they don't have their phones it defeats the purpose to have such loud music. It was impossible to hear any conversations outside of 2 people. This was the worst part of this cocktail lounge, which is so unfortunate. Drinks were great and so was the service. I had the Semi-Tough which had a hint of apple but not as much as I thought it would. I also had the not a penny more, not a penny less and loved it! I have been to Powder Room twice now and they certainly have a fan in me! I love a good speakeasy and I believe they do a decent job of capturing that essence. Both times I went, I had a reservation but from what I understand they do offer walk ins as well. The decor is beautiful but some of the tables are quite close to each other. On my first visit, it was very crowded and a lot of people standing (assuming walk ins) in the middle of the aisle. I think this took away from the intimate vibe that most speakeasies are created to be. Upon entering, they do take your phones, so I think this is supposed to give the intimacy back. Our server, Marlon was so kind and gave us a full breakdown of the menu and what it entails. I don't remember the exact name of the drink I got but it was blue, had rum and was delicious. Not sure if it will become my favorite bar in Austin but it has a good vibe, good music (DJ on the weekends) and good customer service! read more

I hate to say it but this place does not want black people in their establishments tried to visit on multiple occasions and it's always an excuse. They are either having a private party or the reservation list is full. We called to speak to management to get a better understanding on how to get in and it's the same run around. At this point just post a song that say no colored allowed because that is the vibe it gives. They also don't allow phones so you have no proof that it's a whites only club. read more
