One block from the parking garage...yes I am light weight! At this juncture, all I can picture is my bed and little cotton candy like clouds in my dreams. Then my friend announced Retail Therapy, I always wanted to go to this bar. Yikes, say it isn't so. Suck it up girl! You can do one more bar before home. So, in we went. At the entry they had designer branded items like Prada and Fendi. We were greeted by the hostess who escorted us into the club. Inside the club they had glittery posters of Rihanna and other notable singers. The seats were extremely comfortable. The music was permeating the club, but not overpowering conversation. It had a modern, cool vibe. Our server was so friendly and helpful. Retail Therapy also serves food. In fact they had a picture of cheesecake prominently displayed in the club. My friend ordered a drink...Local #9. After two drinks over the course of the evening, I was tapped out. She enjoyed her drink. She let me taste her drink and it was quite tasty, not enough for me to order one. Very nice experience at Retail Therapy....

We recently checked out Retail Therapy in Austin, and while we didn't try their food, we absolutely loved the drinks. We went during their happy hour, and it was excellent. The cocktails were really well made, & you could tell the bartender knew what they were doing. It's not overly sweet or sugary.. just really good quality cocktails. When we arrived, happy hour was a bit quieter, but after about an hour, it definitely got busier with a later night crowd. Overall, I'd highly recommend stopping by especially for happy hour. It's a great spot for good drinks!!

    Ambiance is great!

Very cute hotspot for going out at night! Definitely have to find street parking or pay for a parking garage if stopping by They do daily happy hour w cocktail deals! We stopped by around 11/12 and the place was full, music was going and pretty busy for a Saturday night! I had the spicy tequila cocktail / light and refreshing but def a bite!

Retail Therapy was a mixed bag but generally in a more positive direction. Aesthetically the lounge is very nice with comfy seats, ambient lighting, nice bathrooms, and complimentary champagne for ladies. We made a reservation and were seated promptly and ordered quick. We ordered some cocktails and here's where things began to sour a bit: The cocktails were average but $18 a cocktail is very steep. I get the lounge is nice but at that price I was expecting a lot more. People were straight up twerking in the middle of the lounge, which is crazier when you realize there's no dance floor. Service was spotty, it took a while for us to get checked on and for us to receive the bill. And last but not least, there is gratuity automatically included. To sum it up quite bluntly, Retail Therapy is a beautiful place. The lounge itself is very nice and the vibe and ambiance is spot on (and it's not loud in there!). Between the service, clientele, and pricing; this place is one we'd like to follow up on to see if things change

I enjoyed the cocktails at retail therapy and the service was great. We reserved a section which was free. It was supposed to be R&B at night, but the DJ did more pop and some Reggaeton. Great vibe for date night.

Cool vibe and awesome craft cocktails.

As others have reviewed, this is a wonderful speakeasy. Located behind the Driskill and off of Congress, it is kind of off the beaten path but well worth the visit. If you are a fan of the Roosevelt Room, you will enjoy your time here. We stopped by early on a Friday and were greeted by a simply lovely hostess who gave us a warm welcome and a ginger shot to cleanse our palates. Our mixologist, Brady, provided us with a "lay of the land" and a few recommendations. Drop your guard and order one of their unique cocktails! Not feeling adventurous order a wine or beer but why! Big spenders can reserve their private room and order bottle service. We took advantage of their happy hour and left saying we would be back with our gang! Our story on their website accurately captures their mission and vibe: "In the world of Retail Therapy, every cocktail is a work of art, every sip a statement of style. It's a place where the boundaries between fashion and flavor blur, and where the pursuit of perfection is as timeless as the classics that adorn its shelves." An easy 5-star review.

Came here on a Friday with my family and we had a very nice experience. We got here around 7:30 so it was a little quiet but that ended up being nice since we were able to chat more easily. Everyone's drinks were good and the service was pretty fast. The bar itself was cute with some moody interior design. Definitely would recommend stopping in!

We had such a good time here! The drinks were amazing, the music was fantastic, and they were open till 2am. We will definitely be back, and I would highly recommend retail therapy! When we come in town to ATX we will be here! The espresso martini was the best I've ever had!!!:) we sat at the bar and the bartenders were great! Customer service A+++

Love the whole vibe of this place! It is indeed therapy :) the cocktails were great with y walk in, you get a feeling of oomph! It's a great lounge/bougie date nightspot. So why did I downgrade the review? Two reasons for taking away two stars- 1. They added 20% service charge without talking to us for two people, while e were still in the bar and it's not like we weren't ordering or had left or it was 2am and they closed - Nope! No reason for them to add 20% as default service charge 2. The ambiance is great but they have a view of the road with people peeking in, bright street lights etc which are really a downer. I don't want to be looking at the street while enjoying my ambiance.

This bar /speakeasy is such a good vibe on Thursdays with good music and cocktails just overall good ambiance and decor with cute instagramable moments to take pictures or videos especially the hallway by the bathroom areas

The lovely dove cocktail. A little fruity, and quite strong!

Had such a fabulous time at retail therapy! I came on a Thursday for happy hour and they have all signature cocktails for $10. I was not able to make a reservation (turns out if you make one on Open Tabke someone else within the hour, it will not allow you to make another reservation!). But nevertheless, they had plenty of tables and when I came they were able to offer me a table or the bar. I sat in a nice corner table and I ordered the cocktail version of the "flower power" shot (because I like girly drinks!), as well as the "lovely dove" cocktail. Both were a pretty good size and fairly strong so I felt like the cost was justified! The hostess and the waiter were both very friendly and helpful, attentive as well. The bathrooms are immaculate, and the vibe was really nice! The music was a little louder than other cocktail bars but it was still modern music, and there is a low light/candlelight vibe which I really dig. The parking is lacking; I parked at a friend's house several blocks over; but if you want street parking it's paid only and you probably have to park a decent ways away. Nevertheless - the staff and vibes here are great, drinks are great, and happy hour prices are fair! I would absolutely come back to try other drinks - and plan to do so!

The concept was great, but sadly I will not return here. As soon as we walked in there was a sewer like smell and it didn't improve when you entered the bar. Walking in you get a complimentary citrus drink and then get guided into the bar. The cocktails weren't anything special. We ordered a dessert which was crazy expensive $15 for a cheesecake slice. Like really?? That's pretty ridiculous. I had the sherry cobbler which was fine.

We waited maybe 15 minutes at the walk-in line as others progressively started to pile on behind us. Then again, even people in the reservation line were waiting. This is definitely the kind of place that wants you to wait. The kind of place that wants to build a line outdoors to intrigue onlookers. We were treated nicely, but we definitely could have gotten in right away. By the time we walked in, the place was probably at 60% capacity. It was standing room only at the bar, but not overcrowded by any means. There is a dress code, but it's not entirely clear what it is. Some guy dressed to the 9s got turned away for not having sleeves whereas I got in with sneakers and a t-shirt. They ask for your cellphones upon entering and give you a key in exchange, but there doesn't seem to be any security to enforce it if you don't want to give them up. I have no problem with their policy, but I bet a lot of customers do. Interestingly, their little social experiment seemed to have a positive effect, where we ended up talking to strangers and vice versa. The Powder Room may be making America social again.

My friend and I sat next to a faux fireplace, where we were greeted by the only bartender working and placed our order. Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. It is a very relaxed space, but once the speakeasy gimmick wears off, it does not have much else going for it. It is still a cool place, but I am not sure it was worth the lengthy drive to get there. I told Chad to surprise me and he made an NA version of the Yellow Margarita. I enjoyed this and it was refreshing! I mentioned to Chad that I like clarified cocktails so he made me a sample of the Clarified Piña Colada. It was really good! The melon and lemongrass gave it an interesting flavor. One of the most attractive performing spaces in Austin…read more If they happen to be booking music that you like, you are made in the shade. * The club is on three levels. The Ground Floor: A larger than usual performance space. Larger than usual because it takes up the entire footprint of the building with no space set aside for seating. If you want to dance or they are packing them in SRO, the square footage is there. Okay - it is not as big as the Concourse Project which has an entire South-of the-Airport Industrial Warehouse to work with. But for downtown, it is huge. * The Mezzanine - This is one place to go if you want to sit down. The space is divided between a) a set of large leather chairs with a pool table in the middle. The pool table area is on an open balcony that lets you hear or even watch the bands from on high. There is a bench with stools right on the balcony edge for semi-comfortable listening to the band below. If I am listening to the music, I will take the leather chairs rather than a stool. Ever try boogie-ing on a stool? Ever get transported to a higher place by the mystic beauty of what you are hearing on a stool? Slapstick moments await. However, it is hard to argue with a leather chair for big time listening. b) the Mezzanine bar with and a bunch of chairs and benches near a bowling alley. ?!?!? on the Bowling Alley. The Great Lebowski never had it so good. If you push the matter, the bar might even be able to make you a White Russian. * The Roof - which has one of the nicest and most comfortable roof sitting areas in Austin. There are places with nicer roof views, but not very many places with as much seating and as much comfortable seating. And yes there is a music stage if management decides they want to mix things up soundwise. Mostly though, this is a perfect place to rest your tootsies if standing listening to bands has become too much for you. It is also the perfect safety place if the band downstairs stinks so much, you need two floors of real estate between you and the abomination on stage. * I can't speak for the quality of the bar. I was here for a German government sponsored SXSW showcase - in this case of all Berlin DJs. Berlin DJs are up there with Ibiza DJs for being the best that electronic dance music has to offer. (That night however, an unknown Austin girl filled in for a missing act - and held her own with the best of Berlin. Suxxy Puxxy. Keep your eyes out for her if you like to dance.) The German government was offering free drinks as part of the motivation for you to come in to German Haus and hear free music. No exotic hard to get German beverages but I was pleased to take the normal stuff they were offering. So how good the bar is or how good the musicians they book are are TBD. * * * I generally find the Mohawk is a hard standard to beat ... So it is hard to get me to shift to other clubs. Still the space offered by the Speakeasy is extremely appealing. It would not take much for me to make an excuse to come back.
