Otopia's Christmas setup is minimal--two igloos by the pool and the other end had 2 silver trees and a "Winter Sol" sign. The igloos are a unique touch, offering a cookie decorating kit and a record player for holiday tunes if you book one. However, the igloos get uncomfortably warm in hotter weather, and on rainy days like ours, the humidity made it feel like being in greenhouse. My drink was a spicy pear which was good and my friend liked his espresso martini better than one of the other rooftops (both drinks were $15). While the city view from the rooftop is stunning, the overall experience felt awkward. Accessing the rooftop requires staff assistance, but the process is clunky. My friend had to knock to get in, only to be questioned about how he got there in the first place. Staff presence was sparse, which detracted from the experience. the lack of seamless service and festive atmosphere made me wonder why they participated in the rocking' around the rooftops at all. read more

Checked out the Otopia Rooftop Lounge during a vendor event, and wow, the views from 11th floor are awesome! The bar and pool combo is pretty cool. Drinks and bites were a bit of a mixed bag, and as a total carnivore, some of the vegan options weren't quite for me, but that's probably just what the event sponsors picked. Beautiful views as a rooftop bar in between UT's campus & downtown Austin. They had plenty of heaters for the cold weather, and lots of available seating at 7:30 on a Wednesday evening. We were the only other party there besides a company Christmas party which we thought was interesting. You'd think they'd section it off or maybe close down the bar for a private event but they were front and center when you entered the bar & we were essentially sitting right next to them. All that aside - our server/bartender was great! He took on the Christmas party and our party of 5 with ease and was very accommodating. My only complaint here are the prices. $14 cocktails & the espresso martinis came in PLASTIC CUPS!? I was shocked. Sure, bars can run out of coup glasses but at least use an actual glass and not a plastic cup! Did not match the rooftop bar vibe and was not worth $14 -- or even $10!! The food was tasty and fairly priced. The ahi tuna tacos were TINY. Like so tiny they were almost cute! As if they were for a child. Since the plate came with three of them I think it made up for the initial look of the tacos and their size. Also the fact that they were absolutely delicious. 5/5 for that plate. The buffalo cauliflower had a good taste but is definitely just a frozen meal they heat up. Although the bar has beautiful views and great service, the drinks, food, and pricing make it 3 stars. It's a nice place to visit once but not my first choice for a rooftop bar. read more

My friend and I came here to have a cute rooftop moment since she's visiting from San Diego. When we first walked in we were told there was a private event that booked out most of the seating area which gave us the only option to sit more towards the pool which lacked lighting and any type of vibe. My friend and I sat and ordered 2 glasses of wine. we waited about 15 min and then asked another server about our drinks and they apologized and went and got it for us. It seemed a little disorganized because no one was in the private event area yet and the bar wasn't full so they must've forgotten our order? I went there after seeing they offered buffalo cauliflower and after we got our wine, went to order that and they said their machine was down for cooking the cauliflower appetizer :( The seating options outside of the private event were limited to pool seating and a couple of tables that already had groups at them. So we were sitting along the edge with glass walls - which was cool, but the countertop was a small strip of wood which was exactly the width of the plates (tiny) with gaps on both sides (pictured). The chips were delish, the salsa portion was gone before we finished the chips. The plates were pretty small and left us still hungry. Overall, I think if the private event wasn't happening our experience would have been better because it felt like we were just at a dark rooftop pool bar. I probably won't come here again considering how many other rooftop bars there are, that this one is quite small, and the service wasn't the best. read more

Ever since studying abroad in Sevilla, España, I've had a soft spot for rooftop bars--and Otopia is easily in my top 5 in Austin. The view is absolutely unparalleled, especially overlooking the UT area. The elevator ride is quick and easy, the service is excellent, and the whole vibe feels both chic and welcoming. Love that they host events, offer swimming, and of course, serve up fantastic cocktails. If you're looking for a rooftop experience in Austin that checks all the boxes--Otopia is it. This rooftop is everything!! The location is perfect and the view of downtown Austin is seriously on point. They've got a great selection of light apps up top, and Chantel + Mel (aka the Chamel bar ) were absolute queens behind the bar. If you're starving, they'll point you downstairs for food. Only thing missing? A DJ on the weekend especially Saturday! I rented a cabana and was sooo ready to dance with my girls. I asked him if I could pay for my $15 drink with a $20 bill (so I could provide a tip, which I didn't tell him) but he told me he had no change. The drink was a spicy margarita. I loved this fancy rooftop lounge in West Campus. I was surprised to see such a nice place there, but then I realized it's on the top of a 5-star hotel (Otis). There's a pool, and the views of downtown Austin are gorgeous. We had the Korean BBQ chips, BCR Wagyu Carpaccio, Veggie Roll, and Crispy Crab Roll. I wasn't really a fan of the crab taste and the crispy exterior, but I loved the veggie sushi. I definitely don't think the sushi was of high enough quality to warrant such a high price though. The wagyu tasted super limey and not very beefy. The chips were good but extremely spicy to the point where I had to take time to recover between each one. The specialty cocktails were $18, and regular ones were $14. I had trouble deciding, so the bartender offered to make me a custom drink, which was very nice. Our server sounded and acted like Jenna Ortega. I was charmed. Our total bill for three was $150. This is a good spot if you like to spend money. read more

Thanks to Eventbrite I heard about a Halloween party they were having so me and my sister ventured down. The doors were locked when we got there even though their hours said they were open. They also messed up on giving us the happy hour special (5-8pm) when we first arrived but the cashier at the end fixed it without a problem. The scenery and lounge space was beautiful and the staff were mostly nice. The food was okay but the drinks made up for them. We both had their speciality Halloween drinks so I can't remember the names. But overall, we had a great time watching the city. Had the pleasure of touring the Otis/AC Hotel along with their rooftop Otopia. If you are visiting Austin I highly recommend this property. Every detail has been taken into account to showcase the many charms that Austin offers. From a custom record with record player in each Otis Hotel room to a burnt orange satin robe. Which I NEED that robe in my life! The Otopia rooftop has stunning views of every side of Austin from UT, downtown highrises to the hill country. I've heard it's a perfect spot for sunsets too! Try out the BBQ Pork Potstickers and Tuna Wonton Tacos! For drinks the Champagne Supernova was very refreshing for a hot summer day. read more

I was there during the weekday. Spent several hours working from the rooftop. The rooftop is well decorated, the playlist was cool, and they have specials. The food is decent and there are options for people with food restrictions (vegan, Pescatarian). I ordered several things from the menu- my fav was the Avocado and Hummus with Veggies (they were really fresh). I wanted to enjoy the Tuna tacos, but they were just ok. I could tell that the wonton shells were fried in old oil, and there wasn't a good amount of tuna once you actually bit into it. Was super excited to finally be able to check out Otopia, and still am although I have some honest thoughts about my experience. First, thanks to this hotel for the free parking. This is one of Austin's biggest issues so to be able to get free valet parking was so nice. As said, Otopia is the rooftop pool/bar of the Otis Hotel. It's located on their 11th floor with a pretty decent view of downtown in the distance. The view below the hotel is ehhh. It's just fast food chains lined down the street. But it was also cool to see this area from above. The bar area is super cute and lounge-y. It's small though and here's what put me off from enjoying it. First there were towels on the couches probably left from people using the pool. So didn't really want to sit there as we were dressed up. Next, the bar area had bees flying around. Legit, trying to order drinks while bees were swarming the area. It was maybe just a few but even one bee is scary, and I think this is because of the open trash cans in the area next to the bar. The drinks- They were alright. This isn't a full bar so they didn't have all the options, and also the cocktail I ordered was super sour. Took me about an hour to get through it because one sip was very limey. Bartenders were nice although it seemed like they were tired so not too fun to interact with. Overall it wasn't the vibe I thought it would be from their Instagram page. Was looking for a nice after dinner, fun spot and it didn't have that. I would skip and enjoy their lobby bar instead, which was a little more classier and upbeat in vibes. read more

I can suspect, per previous reviews, that this place is a worthy visit. Yet, when the hours of operation and not correct, it's a Sunday during off-semester hours, it's noted as the only open bar within a half mile of campus, and you take an Uber here to be told it opens at 5pm, not Noon as noted, well - you leave 3 stars and hope to update it next time. read more

The rooftop sits atop The Otis Hotel and we attended dinner within the hotel at Acre 41 earlier in the evening. You have to have a key card to get upstairs and the hotel desk clerk helped us out so it wasn't an issue. We were so pleasantly surprised by this little gem tucked away on the rooftop. We didn't realize it was a Saturday night where UT game was being played nearby and so it was pretty busy and there were reserved sections marked off for the coaches post game to come and sit. It does have a beautiful view of the city and places to sit poolside. Will be a really good look in the summer. They had a fire pit and it was much appreciated since it was a little chilly w a breeze. Only knocked a star off because they have a very limited selection of drinks. read more

I usually love this place, until this past weekend it had 5 stars in my book. I've introduced this bar to many of my friends and it's usually always been a good time, the cocktails could use some work (particularly espresso martini needs an upgrade) but the atmosphere is great and love the views. I was disappointed this past weekend because I was out with a group of friends for a birthday and wanted to show them Otopia. We ordered an Uber to take us there from 6th and arrived at 10:30, bar closes at 11 so I thought we could stop here and get one drink, take some pics then head out. We are let up the elevator by the front desk, when we get to the doors they are locked. We call the front desk from a phone in the hallway and ask what's going on and they said closed early. On a Friday. 30 minutes early and it was a group of 5 of us. No one at the front mentioned this, they literally dinged us up, so the internal communication was not good. My friends were sad they didn't get to check it out, and I was embarrassed because I was talking this place up and moved all of us to this location just to not be able to get a drink or even show them the views and we had to leave. It was very disappointing and I can't believe they closed 30 minutes early on a Friday and turned down a group of 5 and it was a friends birthday. They said we can go downstairs but that's obviously not why anyone would come here. This was a very off-brand, 1-star experience but I'm leaving 3 because of the other good times I've had.
