I found this via search of rooftop bars near downtown and I was pleasantly surprised at this location and the venue itself. Arrived around 5:45-6 PM on a Thursday. This is gonna be located on the fifth floor in the JW Marriott. You have to walk through the pool area as this is on the west side of the building. Well, we didn't have a reservation and we were able to get sat right away. I forget the name of the individual who assisted us by placing our order. I ended up getting the espresso martini, and then my other person got an old-fashioned. I was asked if I wanted a shot of Bailey's with the espresso martini and that to me would've been way too much. The martini itself was almost kind of smoky. Not your typical kind of very crisp espresso martini had a nice foam on top of it. We also ended up ordering the sliders to go along as we had dinner reservations, and that bacon jam on there is magnificent. The sliders were all juicy and very well put together bun was very soft and the flavor of everything was really good. I would totally go back just for the sliders. Overall the service was great. The views were also quite stunning of downtown and the ambience overall which is very chill. The front part of the bar was actually closed due to a private event so I can imagine getting to take photos on that corner would be really pretty to see. read more

My friends and I had a FABULOUS time here. The ambiance is beautiful and so cozy! Without a res on a Friday evening (around 6:30/7) we were able to get a nice, big cabana area. The couches were so comfortable and the ambiance was so pretty. In terms of the drinks and food, it was okay! Got the job done, but nothing to rave about. I enjoyed the sliders the most. I enjoyed my drink as well (5th Floor Cooldown) once we added the extra sweetener we requested. Without it, I wasn't a huge fan (wasn't sweet, despite being told that it was). Valet parking is only $15 (for 2 hours) with validation. I appreciated that, as it made parking not a headache. read more

Entering from the lobby, it felt like a maze trying to find the right elevator and then figure out where to go once I got off. After exiting the elevator, I ended up meandering through what felt like the entire rooftop pool deck with rows and rows of seating, a beautifully laid-out space, and a huge outdoor area before finally reaching the actual bar on the other side of the building. Verdict: best pool, least impressive late-night drink options. The rooftop space itself is massive and gorgeous, with seating spread around fire features and plenty of room to roam. It's the kind of place that makes you want to book a stay just to have access to the pool and outdoor area. Drink-wise, though, the menu was very limited, and they didn't have any mocktails listed. This a wonderful venue in the JW Marriott. Good news you do not have to be staying there to access the rooftop bar - pool area. To be completely transparent we have stayed here numerous times and have always had a 5-star experience. If you wish to hang out by the pool bar area it's first come first serve. They do have a large patio overlooking Congress St that has hostess seating. You do get a nice view of the river and cool evening breezes. I have been told you can also view the sunset bat flights here. They do have a full bar and some pemixed drinks. Not surprised that drinks will set you back a few coins. If the rooftop is not your thing the bar restaurant by the lobby is another option. Grab a table outside for some interesting people watching. read more

TL;DR: I might come here again with a larger group. The cocktails are eye-wateringly pricy but taste good. View is really something though! Without a reservation, my friend and I waited about 20 minutes to get a spot on a Saturday night around 9:30 PM. There is a nice pool and a little bar right next to Edge, so it made the wait go by a lot faster! Once you get seated, wow... The view is breathtaking. You can see the Capitol and the Frost Bank tower, which makes for some really nice photos. Also, the lighting up on the rooftop is really pretty -- it's a great yapping spot. I had the One Flew South ($18) -- the mezcal, tajin, and passionfruit all work great together. There is a nice variety of drinks as well as mocktails. I would have ordered more drinks if I hadn't spent $40 at the hotel bar, which has an amazing colada cocktail by the way. Update: My card was double charged, and I have been trying to get the charge disputed for about a week now. Not particularly happy about this. read more

Great ambience, decent views and service! Came in with a group and we were able to snag a table with a great view. According to our server, most of the drinks tend to be on the frutier/sweet side, which is perfect for me. I got the Dragon Berry Mocktail, which was specifically marked as a mocktail - someone else in my party got this as well, but we're convinced that somehow alcohol ended up in our drinks. We could taste alcohol, but at first we just assumed that maybe it was a really accurate dupe. However, let's just say as asians we have tell tale signs when consuming alcohol... lol. I'm not aware of any fake spirits that can replicate that reaction. Not mad about it, just would advise staff to take extra care when crafting drinks. I've been to Edge a few times now and finally got around to writing a review! First things first: if you haven't visited during the holidays, I highly recommend it. They really go all out with the decorations and they even have fake snow falling every hour which is such a fun touch. This most recent visit was on a beautiful spring afternoon. The weather was perfect, and the view was even better. The menu is mostly cocktails, beer, and a few types of wine. I was in the mood for rosé, so I went with Whispering Angel my personal favorite. My friend and I also shared the coconut shrimp which was tasty, although I always find it a little annoying when they give an odd number of pieces as someone always ends up with one less! They offer a few other small bites, but the food menu is definitely limited so don't come expecting a full dinner. I would love to see them add a few more options like fries, and maybe even introduce a weekday happy hour as that would definitely get me to come more often! read more

I would probably give it like a 4 for getting cocktails there but the food value a 3. $24 for three sliders, 18 for salsa, and $15 for 2 scoops sorbet or watermelon is a little steep. If they put fries on the side of the sliders that would be awesome and probably bring up the value a little. Again, if the prices were just a little lower or the same price but larger servings, I would gladly give them a five! This place has been on my bucket list for a while now. I like the rooftop bar concept right next to the pool, and the view was spectacular. Got to see a lot of downtown Austin. Our service was pretty good. However, we did have to wait a long time to order and obtain drinks Despite it being a rather empty night during the weekday. But the drinks were fantastic! This place definitely has a great view of downtown, including Congress and major buildings, so it would be a great place to go to with friends from out of town. It's also very cute at night with the gas fireplaces everywhere, which provides warmth and interesting pictures. The food is okay, but not great. We ordered the camembert dish for like $23, and what came was so underwhelming that we actually sent it back. It wasn't even warm, when it should have been melting, and the quality of the cheese was mediocre at best (ok, I am French...). However, our waitress was great and super accomodating. She comped the camembert, brought us free guac (which was good), and then we ordered several drinks, and the evening was fun. We also ordered the beer cheese, which is a cute presentation with 2 gigantic pretzels (seriously, who needs so much bread) and a little cast iron dish with melted cheese over a sterno type canister. read more

I made a reservation for 12 (their max size) for my friend's and my birthday. They asked what the occasion was when I made the reservation, but that seemed to be of no importance (last year, we got free birthday shots at Zanzibar). The bar is only on the fifth floor of the JW Marriott, which was kind of a disappointment when we stepped into the elevators that went from floors 5-24. There was no signage in the hotel lobby for Edge Rooftop. The view wasn't very good--there was only one side that has an okay view of a few buildings. The cocktails were pricey, which was expected, but we weren't even paying for a good view. I got the Sunset on Congress, which is a cocktail with gin and aperol. It wasn't bad; my friends liked it more than I did. My friend who got the Mexican Candied Paloma said it was inferior to the ones he is used to. I tried it, and the tajin on the rim seemed to be the only good part. The Sangria on the West End came in a large glass, and it tasted watered down but not bad. I tried my friend's Lady Bird mocktail, which we both agreed was too sweet. Finally, I had the Texas Sipper, which was so bubbly and tasted like I was drinking Topo Chico (which it has). For food, my friend ordered the California Bowl, which she thought would be like a quinoa bowl, but there was barely any quinoa and a lot of leaves. The service was mixed. We had weird experiences with three different servers, one who seemed very disoriented, and two who appeared irritated by our request to adjust the level of the fire. We were here for a birthday! 7 of us total. The rooftop has outdoor style seating, so the tables and seats are generally low, especially for large groups. The views, however, are stunning especially at dusk. I'd like to preface this by saying, the party had started early, so pardon the lack of aesthetic pictures this time. Our friends ordered all sorts of dishes, but my wife and I ordered at least two orders of coconut shrimp. These were delicious and the creole marmalade complemented the crunch of the breading nicely. The guac our friends ordered was fresh and the chips presumably cut and fried in house. The menu was bar bites, hence the 4 stars. We ordered the Zilker Mule and the Texas Sipper. Both were delicious, but my wife and I both enjoyed hers (Sipper) more. Our server was friendly and had good banter, checking in with us regularly for drinks and additional food. Upon being seated, I noticed the uncovered water container and ice bucket, which raised some cleanliness concerns for me. When I asked whether the water was fresh, the response felt dismissive, and I was then offered bottled water for an additional charge. Covering the water, keeping it indoors, or providing fresh tap water could help create a better first impression. Service was also disappointing. Our server, Vivek, only checked on us a couple of times throughout our visit and seemed distracted by his phone. Because our table reservation was limited to an hour and service was slow, we never had the opportunity to order food. Lastly, the drinks did not feel worth the price. Went for their Snow Much Fun event. Rooftop is on the 5th floor of JW Marriott. They have fake snow by the hour starting at 6 PM. I was expecting snow to fall everywhere, but it looked like it was just spraying foam on one part of the rooftop, which was a little disappointing. I like the decorations and live piano music. You can get cute pictures here. You may order food/drinks with your server. I got the hot cocoa but didn't really enjoy it. The alcohol overpowered the sweetness I was hoping to enjoy. Two friends and I went to the Snow Much Fun event and it was definitely overhyped on social media. They have some picturesque decor and it "snows" every hour on the hour, but with the wind the snow blew back onto the building so it was pretty anticlimactic. Despite that, the view from the rooftop was really pretty, but if you're going there to feel the Christmas spirit, don't get your hopes too high. The drinks were decently priced (about $15-20/drink - which is pretty good in comparison to the other Christmas pop ups around town). We went on a Friday night and had a reservation, which I highly recommend (when we checked in, others that didn't have reservation had a two hour wait). The drinks were good, we had the old fashioned and blended pina colada. Pina colada has a considerable serving that me as a light weight cant finish it all but very refreshing and sweet.
