Loved the ambiance. I do think the vibes give off a little more than your local dive bar, but a great place overall. Low lighting, cool decor, and great service.

This place is for drinking Don't see any food here Drinks are beautiful and delicious Come on in ! !!

We last minute had to change the location for my husband's birthday, showed up with over 20 people, and the bartenders didn't skip a beat! All the cocktails on their menu were delicious and they could make whatever we ordered off the cuff as well. I would say it is "dive bar chic," meaning it's clean and cute inside while still being a dive. I can definitely see this being a regular hang out.

Definitely a good spot if you want to get away from the chaos of downtown. Nice and chill for a Sunday night spot, but still with plenty of people. Major plus for a handicapped spot right out front.

What a fun hang out space! Dim and cozy, welcoming, with an extensive cocktail list at decent prices. Also the classic cheap beers people know and love making it a perfect compromise for my husband and I! The cocktails were unique drinks too, including the Brooklyn Maid, basically a mojito/rye old fashioned mash up. Really delicious and creative.

We were looking for somewhere to hang out at before we went to a concert at the moody center (and pay an arm and a leg for drinks) and are so happy we found this place! They had happy hour going on when we were there so we got a $5 beer/shot combo. The staff was super friendly, and the vibe is this place was really unique and cool. They did the "dive"/ocean theme really well, and had alternative rock music playing. They also had some cocktails available that looked tasty. I definitely recommend checking out this place if you're in the area or going to moody center!

Very unique spot, we stopped here before a concert and had some ice cold beer and one of the best daiquiris I've ever had (don't worry, they don't have blenders here) it's a little pricey but they know what they're doing with that bar program.

Had a blast at the Dive Bar!! Went to UT for a writing conference and had an amazing happy hour!! My friend loved her Smoky Rhubarb!! I enjoyed the Bloody Mary! If you stop in try a shot of Screwball Peanut Butter Whiskey!! It's delicious! Bathrooms were clean, and they have a photo booth!

Excellent staff. Solid drinks (a bit pricey) but exactly what you want from a dive bar. Dark. Dark. Dark. And booze filled.

You walk in and immediately know you are not in some polished Instagram cocktail lounge. It is loud, a little gritty, and full of people who are clearly there to have a good time and not pretend otherwise. The beer is cold, the Lone Star flows like Texas water, and the vibe is pure old school Austin. And yes, the legendary bathroom situation deserves its own paragraph. The men's room features a giant ice filled trough for a urinal, which feels like something out of a 1970s roadside saloon documentary. Somehow it is both ridiculous and perfectly on brand. It actually becomes a conversation starter because you walk out laughing and immediately tell your friends they have to see it and go pee. The crowd was friendly, the bartenders were quick with the beers, and nobody was taking themselves too seriously. I ended up staying longer than planned, drinking Lone Stars and talking to random people like we had known each other for years. If you want craft cocktails served with a rosemary sprig this is not your place. If you want a hilarious, slightly chaotic, authentically divey night in Austin with cheap beer and great stories, Dirty Bill's absolutely delivers. Five stars and I would go back in a heartbeat.

Well, both of them said not much and I told them I was gonna head over to this bar called Lala's that celebrates Christmas all year round. They also never heard of it, but we ended up meeting up there later that night. The place was packed, and everyone was dressed up in their Christmas sweaters, and there was a countdown clock to Christmas Day, which I thought was really cool. We hung out there until the clock past midnight and to a shot for Jesus's birthday. I don't think Jesus does shots on his birthday so we figured why not, it's a really big deal, and so we'll do a shot in his honor. Amen. My friends really liked the place and I enjoyed it. A few few months later, a friend of mine came in from out of town and I told her about this bar and she got excited and I took her there and she really enjoyed it too. My Yelp friend struck up an energetic conversation about Australia and New Zealand with two out of town guests. My friend's boyfriend and I talked about various Texas cities, the bar itself, and details about East Austin. The bartender was making faces at the fur baby, causing its ears to perk up...there seems to be a playful love-hate dynamic between them, especially since the bartender gave the pet some treats. Although the bar was busy, it wasn't too loud; it was easy to hear people talk without any trouble. I've now experienced Nickel City both during the day and at night.

As you'll see in the photos, I got suckered into a frozen drink (whip-it-good) and the Miami Vice. I also had a beer and some whiskey (not photographed). I had a great time, some people ended up talking to me throughout the time sitting at the bar, bartenders were nice even as the shift changed (or one bartender went on break for a long time).
