Walk in and you're greeted by the unmistakable scent of pimento cheese, old wood, and what I can only assume is yesterday's happy hour still hanging around. But the real tragedy is they removed the one thing that kept me coming back: the spinach Gorgonzola ravioli. Creamy, savory, and somehow the thing standing between me and a lifetime ban from ordering here again. Bring back the ravioli. I eat here at least once a week, but instead of going to "that resteraunt" to get "that dish", explore the menu! they truly run a daily special menu and craft some really unique dishes, appetizers and soups! The drink menu is amazing, but the simple in house Frozen Margarita is a best in Austin for me! Sensitive to allergies and a wide variety of options. I'm a carnivore, but there salads are top notch. Fish, Red Meat, Southwestern, Chicken Fried? Yes. They do it all and execute perfectly. Saved room for desert? The service here is always great. We popped over for lunch as it is close to our work. We got there early enough to grab a booth. We shared chips and salsa and ordered food. I ordered the veggies tacos. They were presented beautifully. The only bummer was that the sweet potatoes were not cooked all the way. They were so hard they weren't even edible. The rest of the veggies were good. I would have loved a few more pickled onions. They did give me extra tortillas to go with my leftovers. Overall, great service and good food. :) read more

Jack Allen's is one of the most consistently reliable establishments in the Austin area. We dine more frequently at the Oak Hill location but tonight we went to the 360 location. We've never had a bad meal at any of their establishments. Our server Amber was so great tonight. It's difficult to face the public and she was just holding it down: super charming, communicative, and fun to interact with. Service makes such a huge difference when dining and she was remarkable. The food was delicious as always. The fancy country club salad was just perfect and the shrimp platter is hard to beat. Their sourcing of ingredients is always on point and makes all the difference. I didn't care about the gossip; the food is a little overpriced, but chicken-fried catfish is excellent. Stopped in during happy hour on a Monday. Not only did they have 1/2 price appetizers, but on Sunday & Monday during certain hours their burgers are BOGO Free. Fantastic deal, because the burgers are a good size, juicy, delicious and come with an ample portion of either regular fries or sweet potato fries. I had the Fat Jack Burger with cheddar, bacon, onion and jalapeño mayo - all my favorite flavors on a burger! The garlic aioli with the sweet potato fries was also a nice bonus for the already tasty fries. Our server was fantastic and friendly - Kept our drinks filled and checked in often. It is large size restaurant with various style tables and bar seating. I didn't find the booth that comfortable, so would choose a table next time. Looking forward to another visit. read more

My daughter and I had the Bing Bang Shrimp bowl last evening at their Oak Hill Restaurant. Served with rice perfectly seasoned - sort of a stir fry but with some kind of special seasoning. Jack's coleslaw - always a favorite of mine. I gotta tell ya - it is fantastic. It was one of their daily specials last night but I am hoping they add it to their regular menu. Finished our meal by sharing their Chocolate bourbon Pecan pie toped with ice cream and drizzled with chocolate syrup. Brooke was our server and was wonderful in all ways. I assume both places source their ingredients the same way, so it's just a reflection of the kitchen staff and chef I guess. A decent place for weekend brunch without a wait and plentiful parking! This restaurant is huge and if you're looking for a simple no wait brunch this might be a good place for you. We ordered the Barbocoa eggs benedict it has so much flavor and uniqueness with it being served a fried green tomato. The Barbocoa was savory with a perfect amount of fat combined with hollandaise chipotle sauce was very tasty. The issue was one egg was not running but the other eggs was somewhat running. Also, the potatoes were uncooked and a bit hard bite to them. We also ordered the Dee Dee's Short stack which is essentially a glorified French toast with mascarpone. I brought a friend here who was visiting from out of town and like myself, they couldn't stop commenting on how good everything was. The atmosphere is family friendly with an at home southern modern twist. It can get a little loud during dinner time which is understandable because who wouldn't want to have a family dinner here? I had been to a different Jack Allen's location a while back and almost forgot how amazing their food was. They are a locally sourced comfort food kitchen that only uses the best ingredients. I ordered the rainbow trout and was not disappointed at all. The fish was cooked to perfection. Everything on the plate, including the sauce, rice, and spinach jived beautifully together. The prices won't break your bank either. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. She gave great suggestions based on what we were in the mood for. My very favorite is the Ruby Red Trout Salad - mild fish on a bed of southwestern white rice, topped with nutty pesto and goat cheese crema next to a generous bed of mixed greens in a light vinaigrette. The flavors are gentle and comforting, with just the right amount of acidity to balance. A texturally complex salad that is satisfying without weighing you down before a proper cobbler finish. Personally, I like Jack Allen's. My significant other, has it quite found the niche there, but indulges me to go periodically. I love their trout, both the meal option and the salad. You can't go wrong with either. I really enjoy their pimento cheese. Funny given I don't even like pimento cheese. The staff is always attentive and helpful.
