Oz is our "go to" for fantastic food. We've been going here since they opened (I'd guess a couple hundred visits) and we've never been disappointed. The people that work at Oz are top notch and the owners (Chris and Shawn) are often there making sure the quality remains high. When they built Oz, they paid attention to the small details. Sound baffles, good televisions, innovative taps, lights, sound... it all just makes for a great ambiance that is comfortable and feels like home. They have great outdoor seating and a playground and games for kids. Our favorites are the Oz burger, the crispy chicken tacos, shrimp tacos, Brussels sprouts and the happy hour pretzel and queso. OZ sits in a spot that's seen a few "meh" restaurants over the years, but this concept definitely has a large following. You check in with your credit card, then enjoy self‑serve access to an endless tap wall of wine, craft beer, and pre-made cocktails. Food is ordered at the same counter. We arrived Saturday at 6 PM to crazy busy back‑to‑school event, so things were beyond chaotic. We heeded the sign by the entrance that said "Wait to be seated," but after a few minutes we learned you just head to the counter to order food and secure a table. Even with the rush, the young staff and owners were incredibly helpful throughout our visit. You swipe your smart card by your selection and are charged by the ounce. There are small tasting glasses and big boy mugs. I was tempted to pour myself a 16 ounce Old Fashioned but those days are long gone, LOL! Our burgers and protein salads came out quickly and were solid 4‑star meals. They did forget my granddaughter's order, but fries kept her happy until her nuggets arrived. The tap wall has some great local options from Meanwhile, Pinthouse, and Infamous breweries. I struck out twice with all‑foam pours, but a friendly server fixed both without hesitation. There are also some cocktail options including a Paloma, and the Old Fashion. Outside, the playscape and open field are perfect for kids to burn off energy. What a cool spot! Pour your own beer + wine is such a fun concept. I was able to try two different beers for a very reasonable price. There are glitches with the machines sometimes so I caught a couple of incorrect charges that the staff was happy to correct, but be vigilant when reviewing your check. Food here is great! Got the cod tacos and buffalo wings to share. Very generous portion of cod in the taco and giant wings. Buffalo sauce was on point. We got a kids charcuterie board for the kids (so cute) that came with a large soft pretzel, fruits, vegetables, ham and cheeses. They enjoyed it! Love the 'pour your own beer' wall where you simply insert a pour card and pour however much beer, wine, even cocktails that you want. You can try anything and whatever size. I love the vast variety of options available. The food is also GREAT. They have some unique menu options and it's not typical bar food. They go out of their way with fresh ingredients. Update 02-23-2024 We stopped by OZ. Tap House for a quick bite after a long day spent out and about. Even though it was about 6:30pm, the place was not that crowded. We needed to be briefed on "the process" again, open a tab, order food, get your drink cards, serve yourself at the tappers. The restaurant has about 40 self-serve tappers, wine, beer (lots) and mixed drinks. Slide your card into the tap machine, pull the tap, shut off when you have as much as you want. Simple. We had Moscow Mules this time, very delicious, moderate amount of alcohol included (about the strength of a beer). For food the table ordered the fried fish tacos, the ahi tuna tacos (rare), the steak salad and the Blue burger. All were very good, and the food came out fast! The tacos were in flour tortillas, fried fish and ahi tuna were perfectly cooked, the veggies and all on top crisp and fresh. We requested and received a little jalapeno hot sauce, that was the perfect topper for the tacos. The steak salad was huge, the steak plentiful and cooked perfectly at medium rare. The dressing was good as well. Al the ingredients were fresh, and the combination of extras worked well. The blue burger may have been the runaway star this time. Expertly cooked to medium rare, crispy bacon on point, caramelized onions, and a generous heap of blue cheese crumbles. The fries were excellent. Oz. Ok, this place checked every box! I was looking for a casual place to meet a client with drinks and food and this place did not disappoint. From the minute, I walked in and was greeted by friendly employees and Sean the owner who personally helped explain how everything worked. The wine selection is small but mighty. Loved all six! The variety of beers, and mixed drinks on tap self serve was awesome! Very surprised at the great selections on the menu, and very delicious! Can't believe we've been sleeping on this place. When you walk in, you order first then go sit down. Everything from their starters to their meals and drinks of course were great! They have a lot of options for starters and we got the Chip and Dip trio to start, actually really good: guac, salsa and queso. Fish tacos were good and crispy and not fishy. The burger was good and cooked good and seasoned well and the sweet potato fries were great. Of course if you like beer this is a great place for tasting. You can try everything by the ounce (hence the name). It was our first time coming here. The guy at the counter was polite and explained how the alcohol station worked, (I was amazed as I've never experienced something like that before). The food is amazing! I only had an issue with parental supervision on the playground. Little ones are consistently watched by their parents but middle school aged girls and boys are not. These children are consistently climbing up slides, tossing around the littles and setting bad example. Meanwhile their parents are nowhere to be found when the "big kids" hurt or topple over onto the little ones. My 3 year old son got piled onto on the slide by 3 older girls climbing up the sides and no one moved. The girls kept going until it happened on the slide again to another child his age. I went to tell staff and someone did come out to ask who our child was but otherwise, nothing was done. So please keep an eye on your littles while on this playground. My fiancé and I were extremely disappointed by our experience. We came at lunch and waited over an hour for our food. A few staff members walked around and never came to check on our table. Eventually I went to the counter to ask for an update and was informed they forgot to put the order through to the kitchen. They said they would rush order it but was nearly another 30 minutes. Once it arrived we got no apology and no compensation for the issue given it took over 2 hours for our burgers to arrive. We were very excited to try this place as we love trying new, local beers but given the circumstances we left frustrated. Did get some food...the Trio chips were outstanding and included some fresh guacamole, fire roasted salsa, and queso. The guy that brought the food out looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there that day and was not very friendly. Rest of the staff was great. I did semi accidentally pour myself 9 oz of wine, so it was a $12 glass, not what I'd typically spend on a glass of wine, but I also typically wouldn't be served 9 oz. My wife and I travel frequently to Austin and have for a number of years. With two of our children here, we have dined out at many of Austin's finest restaurants. I am a partner in a number of businesses in Sonoma County, California, including golf courses, theaters and a restaurant. I am rarely motivated to write a restaurant review, particularly a glowing review. My wife found Oz. Tap House online and it was very close to our hotel. My personal experience with tap houses is that they have great beer, but mediocre food and generally less than mediocre service. I went online and looked at the menu, still not particularly enthusiastic. But I decided to place a dinner order for my wife and I and was immediately blown away by the online ordering system. Virtually every menu item can be custom ordered in a dizzying variety of ways. I even remarked to my wife that it was the finest online ordering software that I had ever seen. But ordering is one thing and execution is another. My wife ordered the Oz. House Burger (Beef), cooked medium, substituting lettuce wrap for the bun and adding avocado with a small avocado jalapeno side salad. Again, the customization options were many. I ordered the Charcuterie Pretzel and a Side Caesar Salad, with no croutons. I knew the restaurant was only a couple of minute drive, but even then the speed of the announcement of the projected pickup time and the time itself was amazing; less than 15 minutes. When I picked up the meals at curbside, I told the waitress how impressed I had been with the online ordering system and she thanked me and told me she would have to tell her husband. Turns out Krista and her husband, Sean, own and operate the restaurant. I had assumed with the level of sophistication that it must be a franchise or chain, but no, Oz. is a true mom and pop restaurant. When leaving I told Krista that the proof would be in (i) whether the delivered food matched the order and (ii) the quality of the food. I had barely started eating when my wife announced that her salad was spectacular and the burger one of the best she had ever had. My meal was every bit as impressive. Again, uncharacteristically for me, I called Krista (even though the restaurant was hopping and I knew she was busy), just to tell her that the food was as good or better than the service. This is as advertised: true farm-to-market fare, exceedingly fresh, expertly prepared as ordered and quickly delivered. Yes, Oz. may not have McDonald's prices, but it has infinitely superior food, expertly prepared and efficiently delivered. We admittedly didn't even try what was probably the standout feature of the restaurant: the beer. I assume if the restaurant part of the tap house was spectacular, the beer side of it must be even more so. Next time. Do yourself a favor and try the Oz. Tap House. This place is my go to spot after hiking at riverplace trail. If you're not a good pourer you may be disappointed with the amount of foam you pay for. But the staff is usually very helpful and will help you out if you're struggling. For food, I usually get their wings which are 10/10. Good ratio of sauce to meat and it had a good crisp on the outside without drying out the meat. This time, I tried their Bella's charcuterie - which was cute and satisfying. Fun fact - their kids meal is for anyone of the ages of 0-101. Big fan of kids meal bc most times homegirl doesn't want leftovers. Closing out is a breeze bc they have tip jars up front where you can drop your card (that you use to get beers) and just leave.
