She was totally on top of us I had the lobster pasta and friend had the ahi tacos. They did not skimp on portions. The tacos were so full of tuna it has hard to keep it all inside the shell! So very tasty and extremely fresh ahi for sure. The lobster pasta went beyond my expectations! The pasta was definitely homemade and cooked to the perfect texture. Caroline was a miss for us for dinner downstairs. I'd recommend this place for a drink and an appetizer, but definitely skip the entrees. It's attached to a hotel and it definitely had the feel of 'room service fancy' when it came to the entrees. The waygu beef burger was a perfectly uniform bland patty in a sea of lukewarm fries with two sad slices of roma. The waygu steak wasn't bad, but again, room service fancy feel. The Green Goddess salad looked pretty good but expect to pay extra to add a protein. I did like the ambiance. The waitstaff was helpful and informative. The kitchen and bar took a while, even with just a few tables occupied. When we called to reserve a table, they let me know they couldn't split checks and gratted parties over 6, which I expected but appreciated they communicated it. The website was hard to navigate for me and the Happy Hour available under Caroline isn't actually offered anywhere but upstairs. If you have accessibility issues, note that there aren't any restrooms on the first floor. Be prepared to walk a maze through the restaurant, through the coffee shop and either up 4 switchbacks of stairs to the 2nd floor or to ride the elevator on the hotel side to find one. Overall, if you're planning a trip here, I would check out Caroline Upstairs and hit up the upper deck patio for drinks and appetizers and skip downstairs restaurant. A few friends met up here for breakfast, which we chose due to the cute outdoor space. The patio was definitely cute! However, everything else was super strange. Service was just fine. But they did not have anything except black coffee in terms of coffee drinks... there was no decaf. No lattes. And not even just plain hot water. They said the coffee cafe makes all of the coffee and hot beverages for the restaurant and since the coffee counter was so busy, they could not service any restaurant diners. Super weird! Our food was average. Açaí bowl was fresh and good. The coffee situation was just so weird for breakfast/brunch. If a restaurant has 40k google reviews...it's gotta be worth a shot. I came around 8:30am, and there was a lot of available seating. I sat in the bar area and my server, Mari, came within reasonable time for my drink order. She was super helpful in her recommendations as well. I started with their most popular coffee - Marshmallow Latte. It had a nice toasted marshmallow topping. The coffee itself wasn't super strong nor sweet. I think it could've been hotter when served, but other than that, it was pretty good! For food I chose the Sweet Corn cake Benedict and a side of chicken sausage. The ambiance is always great, and the service has been solid every time I've visited. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the overall vibe of the place is enjoyable. That said, the food and drinks have never really stood out to me. They're not bad by any means, but they're also not memorable. I've tried most of the appetizers, including the mushroom dish that's always recommended. While the mushroom dish is pretty good, nothing I've had here really screams "amazing," especially considering this is now my third visit. Visiting Austin (and Texas!) for the first time and stopped by Caroline downtown. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered an espresso martini. It initially came out a bit more room temperature than I prefer, and I noticed it appeared to be from a machine. The flavor was there, but it leaned a little too sweet for my taste. When I mentioned it to the bartender -- Jordan, as noted on my receipt -- he immediately took ownership. I told him I was thinking of switching my order, but instead he offered to remake it from scratch. The second one was spot on -- perfectly balanced and much better. What really stood out was his hospitality. He was extremely friendly, engaging, and conversational, which made the whole experience even better. Service like that makes a difference. The coffee counter was busy and the seated restaurant was also fairly full, but since I was dining solo I asked to sit at the bar. I was told I couldn't, which was fine -- but then it took 15 minutes before a server came by to offer a drink or even drop off water. During that time, multiple people were seated at the bar and served quickly, which made the wait even more frustrating. Once my order was taken, the food and drink came out promptly. I ordered a juice and the breakfast burrito. The juice was tasty, but definitely overpriced for what it was. The breakfast burrito, however, was extremely disappointing -- barely any egg, not much chicken sausage, and mostly just a giant wrap. I have mixed feelings about this place. The decor is super nice and great for a date night, but I find the food needs to be updated. I was originally going to order the chicken schnitzel, but after looking at the table next to me and seeing how dry it was I opted for a burger and pasta. I'm visiting Austin just for a week coming from California, and I'm amazed by how well mannered and kind Texas has been to me. Except for this restaurant in downtown. I came with three other people including a baby on a Thursday night and we were seated in the corner for easy access to the stroller. However, we had nobody to help us. Our server left us to go attend the bar and we were left to stare at the menu. Mind you, there isn't a ton to read. Not once, but three times we had to get up from our table to order or get the check or ask about something. We had no service whatsoever, and had to speak to three different people every time we got up because we didn't have a server that was attending to us. He was able to attend the table next to us, but completely ignored us. I'm sad to say that our experience was not met, and our appetite was not fulfilled at all. The appetizer I can easily make at home, but I will say I did not mind their mushroom pasta. I will definetly not be coming back if I ever visit Austin again. Safe to say we left what felt like forever after finally receiving the check and headed to a different restaurant to munch on. I try to avoid hotel eateries but I've had great dining experiences at hotels like the JW Marriott in Austin. We, four, stopped by on a Sunday AM for breakfast and we had a great time. They do have brunch cocktails available and their bloody Mary's were deemed excellent with just the right amount of spice. My bloody Maria was on point and we all got our Sunday Funday started. Breakfast was wonderful. Our eggs arrived cooked perfectly. The pepper bacon and real potato sides were off the charts delicious. They also offer a few TexMex breakfast options and Plus one was raving about her Huevos Rancheros plate. Service was excellent even though they became busy our server was very attentive. Austin, Tx. It was a busy night on Thursday and we had no reservation, having just arrived from the airport. They accept walk ins, I was very happy about that. The tables along the long bench seat are too close together, I didn't care much for that but I just was happy to be seated. I had the short rib which was wonderful. It was small but perfectly prepared. No knife needed. I cut it with my fork. Just delicious. I wasn't too sure about the cauliflower grits, but they were great. The ahi tacos at first infuriated me because they were so small they were insulting. Then I found out the taco shells were not microscopic tortillas but nicely crafted slices of Daikon radish holding the ahi mix. Very good. We got four of these two inch tacos, Steph thought the portion was reasonable. At the Thursday dinner night I observed how popular the Wagyu burger was. It looked to be an awesome burger, which I could see quite well because of how close our tables were. I was determined to return and try one so I ordered the burger at brunch. So disappointing. It's ridiculously loud and busy in there (it's located in a lobby of a hotel, they have a busy coffee shop right around the host stand and just a lot of moving parts. Explains why we were skipped and sat 3 tables that came in after us. No one ever apologized or anything. You couldn't even hear the hostess/hosts and whatever they were saying. The only thing we really loved were the pancakes. The rest was just...mediocre brunch food you could get for half the price. I came with two of my friends for brunch. This place was below average. I got the steak sandwich which was like maybe 2-3 pcs of small steak in the sandwich it was mostly bread and greens. No flavor. The Cesar salad looked old. Arugula in the Cesar salad was also weird but it was wilted and lettuce was brown and croutons tasted stale. The corn dip is good but it's so tiny they give way more chips than actual dip.
