The food here was really yummy. When I first looked at the menu, I had no idea what some of these ingredients were, but the chefs do a really good job of bringing out really good flavor in each dish. This place is definitely on the pricier side, but it's good for a little fancy dinner. read more

Nice atmosphere, upscale and the prices reflect that. The garrison dirty martini was the best I've ever had! The creamed corn was excellent as was the grilled sour dough starter! We had the sword fish which was good, but a had a couple of fishy bites and my companion felt it was a little salty. The complimentary amuse bouche and dessert bites were a nice touch, delicious, and appreciated! read more

Date night at Garrison restaurant in the Fairmont Hotel - Austin. The Fairmont Hotel is a fun hotel with all of its Texas and Austin references throughout the hotel. During the holidays, it is especially appealing with all the Christmas decorations and lights. From the parking garage, you meander through the hotel to the casual restaurant make a left turn, which takes you through a restaurant food court that leads you to Garrison. It is almost like a treasure hunt. We ordered 7oz Texas Wagyu Petite Tender and Seremoni Black Cod*cod for dinner with the associated vegetables. While the food is very good, the portion size is small. So do not come ravenous or you will end up spending quite a lot of money. We also had a specialty desserts which components of pretzel, mouse and chocolate. Overall service was good. read more

Good food and perfect service. The waiters wear very formal clothes. They offered me free dessert for my birthday. Very nice of them. Tuna tataki is marinated, so tuna is too salty. Wayu is very tender, but a little bit salty too. Red snapper is very nice. read more

First time here and found public parking next to the hotel. I paid just in case, but wasn't sure of the entrance to the restaurant. Thankfully a person saw my group and opened the side door. We checked in for our reservation Saturday evening and it was not overly busy. We were swiftly seated and greeted. Everything was absolutely amazing and perfectly cooked, seasoned, texture variations, visual appeal and color contrast. Art. The food was not too much or too little. It was about a 2 hour experience at our leisure. I'm so glad I chose this place to celebrate as a birthday surprise. I was also surprised by the chefs and service even after my research on this location. Everyone from the front to the back of the house was on point and exceeded my expectations. I most definitely will be back for the new menu coming up soon. read more

We've been coming to Garrison for nearly four or five years now, basically since the early days when Chef Jakub was just getting started. What originally brought us in? A few extremely convincing photos of truffle tater tots. That alone was enough to lock us in for life. Over the years, we've celebrated milestones here and watched the restaurant evolve. Chef Jakub took a short sabbatical at one point, and while the food was still good, it just wasn't Garrison. Now that he's back, it honestly feels like he returned with even more passion than before. The kitchen is firing on all cylinders again. We recently came in for the Valentine's Day prix fixe, kids in tow, and somehow it worked beautifully. The kids loved every moment, and so did we. Favorites this time around were split between the truffle pasta (dangerously good) and the perfectly cooked rib eye, which was executed flawlessly. And then there's David, somehow always our server, and somehow always amazing. He has an incredible instinct for recommending the perfect balance of drinks, reads the table effortlessly, and isn't shy about making things right if something feels even slightly off. That kind of service is rare and makes the entire experience feel relaxed and confident. Side note: whoever the pastry chef is... you are an absolute menace (said with love). The chocolate cake, paired with ice cream and just the right crunch, has been living rent-free in my head ever since. I'm still thinking about it. Possibly dreaming about it. read more

Fire, Flavor, and Flawless Service in the Heart of Austin Garrison is one of those rare downtown Austin restaurants that feels both elevated and deeply rooted. Located inside the Fairmont, it could've gone the route of "fancy hotel restaurant," but instead, it brings something far more personal and fire-driven to the table -- literally. The open flame kitchen is the heart of Garrison, and everything on the menu seems to carry a whisper of smoke or char -- in the best way possible. You're not just eating food here; you're tasting craft. The food: Inventive without being showy. Every plate is beautifully composed, but it's not just about looks -- the flavors are bold, balanced, and seasonal. The oak-grilled meats (especially the dry-aged steak or the Texas wagyu) are phenomenal, and the seafood dishes -- like the grilled octopus or fire-roasted halibut -- show real finesse. Even the vegetables are standouts, with unexpected touches like ember-roasted roots or smoked butter. The bread service? Worth its own paragraph. Warm, rich, and served with house-made butter that somehow tastes like it was made just for you. Drinks: Excellent wine program and a cocktail list that's as precise as it is creative. Ask the sommelier -- they know their stuff and won't steer you wrong. Service: Professional, gracious, and genuinely proud of the food they're serving. Timing is smooth, explanations are detailed without being overbearing, and you leave feeling taken care of, not just fed. Pro tip: Make a reservation, dress for the occasion (business casual or better), and come hungry -- this isn't a place for snacking; it's a place for dining. Bottom line: Garrison is one of Austin's most mature and well-executed culinary experiences. Perfect for a special night out, a client dinner, or just treating yourself to something extraordinary. read more

We came here because after a long work day we didn't want to leave the hotel. Our server was precious and very attentive. Catered to multiple allergies like a champ! It is way overpriced but that the deal, we knew going in. Steak and fish were perfectly prepared. We ordered several things not pictured, all fine. The desserts were amazing, in my opinion. This is what I was trying to end my day with and they did not disappoint. It's a hotel restaurant. Better than many, not as good as some. read more

This review is almost an identical repeat of my one 3 year ago. The porterhouse steak with a small side of black truffle is the best I have had outside of Kobe, Japan. It is simply delicious and pairs well with a small bit of truffle on the steak. We had dinner at Garrison in the Fairmont Hotel after a full week... we decided we needed a great meal. Garrison delivered! Cool-blue ambiance was almost mesmerizing! Start to finish, the meal was excellent, with one slight observation noted below... JR was our server, and he did a great job. Attentive, but not intrusive. Great job leading us through the menu and especially the specialty cocktail selections. Thanks JR, job well done! Our dining "fantasy come true" experience began with cocktails... the Garrison Dirty Martini and a Belvedere Vodka Shot with caviar! Check out the pics, amazing presentation for both. The martini served in a chilled test tube on ice, with castelvetrano olives on a party stick in the glass. The vodka shot with a balanced mother of pearl spoon full of caviar on the top. Great fun, and delicious too! The meal began with a compressed melon amuse-bouche... light and delicious. We had the crispy octopus as an appetizer, and the picanha (steak) and pan roasted grouper as entrees. Both were terrific! One suggestion for the kitchen is to hold off on adding salt to the steak a second time after it is cut, the original salt in the rub on the outside of the steak is enough (for our palates anyway! We know some prefer more salt!). The gruyere black truffle tater tots are to die for...!!! The ordered a bottle of French Chablis to accompany dinner, and it was delightful. The Garrison wine list is a dizzying walk through all varietals, Old and New Worlds, and lots of other stuff tossed in. Any wine buff can find a bottle here, and generally reasonably priced for a downtown lux hotel. Dessert brought another treat... after much thought, we selected the chocolate passion fruit dessert, which was kind of a deconstructed s'mores with passion fruit sorbet on crushed graham crackers on the side. Small mints and jellies ended the evening... Great experience at Garrison! As the listing suggests, $$$$ means expensive. IMHO, worth every penny. Highly recommend Garrison... read more

Listen up, foodies, because Garrison in Austin, TX, is an absolute must-visit for anyone with a pulse and a palate. My wife and I rolled in for our anniversary, and let me tell you, this place didn't just understand the assignment--they aced it, framed it, and hung it on the wall with a gold star. The level of detail in their service was so on point, I'm pretty sure they knew our love story better than we did by the end of the night. The porterhouse steak? Oh, baby, it was a 24-ounce masterpiece that melted in our mouths like a love poem written in butter. Cooked to perfection over their post oak fire, it had that smoky, juicy swagger that made me want to propose all over again--just to the steak this time. Then there was the pan-roasted grouper, a fish so fresh and flavorful it probably auditioned for a Disney movie before landing on our plate. Flaky, tender, and kissed with just the right seasonings, it was like the ocean threw a party and invited our taste buds as VIPs. The cocktails? Don't even get me started. The martinis were so smooth and crisp, I'm convinced they were shaken by James Bond himself. And the Old Fashioned? It was like a hug from a bourbon-soaked grandpa, with a fancy twist of citrus and bitters that made me feel classier than I have any right to be. Every sip was a vibe, and the presentation--think chilled test tubes and caviar-topped garnishes--had us snapping pics like we were food influencers. The staff at Garrison were the real MVPs, treating us like royalty with a side of Texas charm. They were so attentive, I half-expected them to tuck us in with a bedtime story after dessert. The ambiance is this cool-blue, upscale-but-not-stuffy deal, like if a swanky jazz club and a cozy campfire had a baby. It's tucked inside the Fairmont, but don't let the hotel vibes fool you--this is a culinary adventure worth seeking out. In short, Garrison is the kind of place that makes you want to celebrate every anniversary, birthday, and random Tuesday just for an excuse to go back. Bring your stretchy pants, order the porterhouse and grouper, sip those killer cocktails, and thank me later when you're dreaming of this meal in your sleep. Must-visit status: fully earned. read more

If you're looking for fine dining in Austin, Garrison delivers! Went to Garrison for a special meal, and we have only praise for Garrison! Food: Fantastic! Everything we had was superb. The duck breast was terrific. Had a steak, and it was perfect. The smoked potato pierogi reminded me of eating in Warsaw! The pierogi was a treasure, and we thanked the chef for the perfect execution. The chef is of Polish descent, and he enjoyed talking to him. The GM stopped by our table with a tasty sample of smoked pate. The pate reminded us of eating a perfect piece of smoked sausage on a little bread with a perfect portion of mustard in Vienna. It's not often I find myself giving a restaurant 5 stars, but I can't overlook the service that was received when visiting Garrison for the first time. We've lived in Austin long enough to see the Fairmont go up, and even went to the lobby bar and rooftop bar one time for a wedding after party...over 5 years ago. We had no idea there was a food court tucked in the back, and the Garrison tucked even further back as a pleasant surprise. Felt like we were in Epcot or Vegas! Such a fun vibe. Welcomed by Chris, immediately with positive energy and charm. He set the bar high with close attention to detail as he sat us and introduced us to Ayana, who'd serve us for the night. Such a knowledgeable and quality experience we had with her! As she walked us through the menu, we knew almost immediately what to go with (based on her recommendations and detailed descriptions). We were surprised by an opening treat, on the house. A roasted carrot with green goddess sauce. I forgot to ask about the textured garnish. Followed by the BEST dressed oysters in town. Sheesh. Melted in our mouths and did not want to finish up the last one. So glad Ayana suggested this. Definitely recommend. Even if you think you don't like oysters. The main course was the porterhouse with the side of broccoli and bearnaise sauce (creamy goodness), and the go-to tots. The aerated gruyere on top of the tots with ACTUAL shaved truffle? Chef's kiss. Flavor and texture is needed for a full food experience, and the assignment was understood with each course. Yes, you can expect the filet to melt in your mouth, as well. Personally, we believed this was a better steak than a handful of steakhouses in the area...although, there was a few bites that were a bit too salty. Don't skimp on the Souffle for dessert. Make sure to save room, nothing wrong with bringing home leftover steak. You will not regret the Souffle. By this course, it was clear that the intention of the back of house was to serve foods that would melt in your mouth, making it easy for you to have a mouthful of every sense imaginable. From the oyster sauce, to the aerated gruyere and bernaise, to the vanilla anglaise for the Souffle - you won't be disappointed. Chris, Ayana, Chef Jakub, FOH and BOH - snaps to you all. Thank you for a beautiful and fun experience. We look forward to coming back! (Especially since I forgot to grab a pic of oysters and souffle, which we for sure will get again). read more

Garrison - Welcome Treat - New American Near Me - Austin, Texas

I was visiting Austin for work when I happened to find this place near my hotel. Looking back I could not have been any luckier as this overall experience ended up being a Top 3 dining experience of my life. Right from the beginning. (I do recommend making a reservation ahead of time as I did, as the restaurant was very busy). When I first arrived I was guided to my seat that had my name on the table, making you feel like the main guest of the night. As I sat down I was immediately greeted by my server Joel who brought over some complimentary "Welcome Bites" from the chef. As well as their drinks menu that had any and every type of drink you could want. I ended up going with a bottle of wine that Joel recommended. This was fantastic! For Apps I started with their homemade Taters. I didn't think it was possible to elevate taters, until this dish came out of the kitchen. Taters perfectly surrounding a center cheese that was great for dipping. It was delicious! This is a shareable app and I would highly recommend it. My server Joel mentioned that this is a restaurant favorite, which made complete sense after trying it. Food my main course I order the Wagyu Steak and Roasted Potatoes. The steak basically melted in your mouth wanting more after each bite and the sauce with roasted potatoes made for the perfect balance. Being from the Midwest, I have tried a lot of good steaks, but this was perfection. Medium Rare to a T and already pre-cut ready to be enjoyed. Couldn't have asked for a better steak. For Dessert I ordered the Apple Fig Crumble, which was just as good as every other item I had that night. Even their desserts were presented with such detail. Overall, my experience was 10/10 Food 10/10 - Food was truly one of a kind Atmosphere 10/10 - Place was busy but didn't have to shout to hear people talk. They had a unique open style kitchen that allowed you to see exactly what the chef was doing while preparing your food. Service 10/10 - Joel was extremely educated on the menu, always checked in to ensure my glass was full and that I didn't need anything else. Joel and other staff members provided top tier service all while having a packed house. Overall Experience 10/10. Highly Recommend if you are in the Austin area. read more

First meal in Austin did not disappoint! Experience was great from start to finish! Hostess offered a hook for my purse upon seating which was thoughtful! Our server, JR, was very warm and attentive! Restaurant was not very busy but still had a nice ambience along with an open kitchen. For starters we had the octopus and crudo. Octopus was my favorite, it was so crispy and loved the green goddess sauce! Split the strip loin along with mushrooms and tater tot's for main course. Elevated tater tot's were recommended from a staff member in the bar and they were so good! Finished with chocolate passion fruit and apple crisp along with complimentary candy from pastry department. Overall great experience and would love to come back! read more

Excellent meal! I got a last minute reservation and when we arrived we were one of only a few tables. There were no later reservations available than 6pm, and I was curious to the cause but it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Sat at the counter for a view of the kitchen goings on. Jasper was our waiter and he provided exceptional service- very knowledgeable and attentive! The space is dark and cozy, but the focus is on the food and service. The tots were amazing. Get that and the biscuits + honey butter and whatever else would be considered a successful meal. I was so so on the duck. I apparently am not a fan of duck and will prefer to keep them in a pond. It was well prepared, but the meat is not for my taste. My friend's chicken was excellent! The hasselback potato and broccoli sides were ok. I think we were still smitten by the tots and bread at that point. Get dessert! And enjoy the free tastes along the way. read more

Just got back with a very happy tummy after celebrating my hubby's birthday! It was our first time dining at Garrison, and we loved it. We started with the snapper crudo and pierogi, both of which were incredible, and finished with the perfectly cooked porterhouse steak as our main course. Highly recommend! Hands down the finest dining experience in the 51 years I've been on this planet! I am not a huge foodie, but my partner is, so I came here not expecting much more than a pleasant meal. I walked away with a forever changed opinion on masterful food preparation and presentation and the Garrison was truly a one of a kind experience that I will never forget. read more

Food was bad and overpriced. We ordered Oysters -- got very small oyster with heavy batter Gougiere puff: again underwhelming in terms of of quality and size Caesar salad: dressing had zero flavor, anchovy was the highlight but not enough to make this even a passable salad Bread service!!! Again for $14, it ought to be some outstanding bread making, but I can't say anything that positive about it Porterhouse: beautiful ingredient, but it wasn't even hot when it was served -- it was actually almost room temperature but we had waited so long and were so frustrated by then that we just ate it Duck: if the duck is smoked and served room temperature, then it shouldn't be listed under HOT dishes. Because that came as a surprise, and not a welcome one. The restaurant on Thu 10/2 was 90% vacant, so one simply can't explain this lackluster of execution across the board. Management has clearly taken its eye off the ball, or moved on. Which explains the high vacancy of tables. The amarone was excellent and fairly priced. I am mad at myself for not sending almost every dish back!! We didn't get $450 worth of quality at a Fairmont eating establishment! read more

Wow wow wow. Garrison served us one of the best meals I've had in Austin. I was very impressed with the drinks, the food, and the service. The restaurant itself is super cute with nice lighting, comfy chairs, and an open kitchen. Our server, Jasper, was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly throughout the entire meal. We tried the Antiquity and Tequila Tonic cocktails, both of which were really good. We also each had a glass of wine recommended by Jaspar. The wines went perfectly with our meal and the flavor we were hoping to have. We split the beef tartare, smoked potato pierogi, crispy octopus, pan roasted grouper, and tater tots. The beef tartare had some kind of crispy component on top that gave it a fun texture. The pierogi was cooked nicely with perfect smoked flavor. The octopus was easily the best octopus we've had in Austin. It was crispy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth on the inside. The grouper was cooked perfectly and paired nicely with the charred cabbage. The tater tots were truly something else. Aerated gruyere and shaved black truffle? Yes, please! I'll never have tastier/fancier tots than what Garrison served up tonight. I am so happy we came to Garrison and look forward to eating there again in the future. read more

I was really hoping that this was going to be a blow my mind experience. We visited to celebrate a friend's birthday. It's a cool and eclectic vibe inside the restaurant, definitely fancy, though people are dressed both casually and not. The service was excellent and our server was very helpful and attentive. We really appreciated the extra desserts for the birthday celebration. This review really comes down to the food. It was hit or miss per dish and I felt that it was extremely overpriced for the taste. Things that we loved: - The biscuits - The scallops were cooked really well - The desserts Things that were just okay: - Grilled Short Rib - lacked seasoning and flavor, though cooked well and was tender. - Akaushi Wagyu - great cut of steak and was cooked well, but again the meat itself lacked flavor. For $75, was hoping it was the best I've ever had. - Tator Tots - somehow the truffle lacked flavor. All you could taste was the cheese on top. All in all, the food was well cooked and beautifully presented, but just lacked the spectacular flavor I'd expected for the price. Maybe it was an off night because it was a Wednesday? read more

Went to Garrison for our anniversary last night - what a wonderful experience from beginning to end! Upon entering, our celebration was acknowledged by the first three people with encountered and with a glass of champagne which is always a great way to start a meal. Our server, JR, was very helpful when answering our questions and guiding us to some of the best items for our evening. Appetizers - we ordered Crispy Octopus & Beef Tartare. Both preparations veered away from the traditional way that you see them offered and were quite delicious. As a treat, we received two of the Smoked Oysters to pair with the champagne as well. All three dishes are things I would order again. Dinner - We split the Porterhouse & ordered a side of the Tater Tots. The steak was cooked to perfection, and my only "meh" was that the plate sauce kind of overwhelmed some of my bites. The Tots are a must order in my opinion - the aerated gruyere & black truffle add such indulgence to the cubes of potato. Overall, I count this as a restaurant that we will return to in the future. Great food and service that lives up to it. read more

absolutely amazing service on top of fabulous food. So rarely do you get these two dimensions coming together in one place. An example of fantastic service is the fact that the servers and staff remembered our names and continued to address us by first name. I was also taking aback when the staff took my purse, which was sitting on the ground and put it onto a purse hanger without my notice. Such attention to detail... The two bottles of wine we ordered were absolutely amazing and they took careful concern to continue to fill our wine glasses as the night went on. The red wine was poured from was very artistic carafe and served as a statement in itself. Every dish ordered was really aesthetically well presented and the taste was 10 out of 10. Last night my Seattle friends and I dined at Garrison! Amazing meal- incredible! The service was top notch - thank you to Brian, our server and his team. Brian had fantastic recommendations. We loved the wagyu beef and black cod entrees, the greens, and mushroom sides. Every bite was special including the chocolate soufflé at the end. This gem is set back deep inside the Fairmont - without direct street access, so many probably pass it by. Meander through the lobby, lobby bar, a simulated downtown area food court and walk up onto a porch and through the facade of a Texas farmhouse. The theme of the menu is "smoked" and the restaurant has little built-in coves all around with Bastrop firewood. The service was great - definitely more of the upscale vibe, but minus the attitude - basically they'll give you a taster/present your wine, but not judge you if you can't name the notes... Tell you about the specials, but not judge if you ask the portions are decent. The perfect ATX vibe. And the portions are decent! We debated the size of the portions and if we were over or under-ordering when we saw "scallop" printed singularly on the menu...Would the salad be two artistically placed pieces of lettuce? We were pleasantly surprised that even though the pricing is definitely a $$$ experience - the portions actually felt worth the cost without sacrificing flavor and we left full. The salad was a packed local leaf lettuce that four of us shared! The hasselback side potato was served with both halves (so fluffy with amazing "loaded" drizzle). The leek tart was enough to share as a side (and so freaking good). And the fish and poultry we're all appropriately plated. It all was delicious. The chef sent over some little nomz to start and I was a vegetarian in a steakhouse and I ate the best smoked cabbage I've ever tasted. They brine it in olive oil for hours and serve with vegan aioli. The rolls were so magical...don't skip the yeast rolls. My partner got the barbecued grouper and it was so moist and had great flavor. We were too full to try their desserts but the staff brought us housemade chocolates and passion fruit candies to end our meal. Our only criticism (if this even counts) is we wanted at least one more clear alcohol option on the highlighted drink menu that had some fruit or herb notes. My partner got a delicious gin & tonic, but I was looking for a slightly sweet infused vodka drink. All that to say is this vegetarian will most likely be going back to this surf and turf spot again soon! read more

Who knew such a gem was located inside a hotel in Austin? Garrison has been in my bookmarks for a long time, and my friend and I finally made the trek. The service is spectacular and unparalleled, and everything we tried was phenomenal. The interior of the restaurant is very vibey and unlike any other restaurant in Austin that I've tried. Their bread? So buttery and soft. We also ordered their black truffle tots, which was so good I had to bring some back to my roommates for them to sample as well. A fan favorite all around. Our entrees were delicious (chicken and lamb, I believe). We ordered souffle for dessert, and it was actually my first time trying souffle. I also highly recommend. Great service, great food, and great location for special occasions or just dinner. We came to Garrison for our 22 Anniversary and thought it would be nice to come back again for 25 years. Garrison did not disappoint. Ambience: This restaurant is located in the fabulous Fairmont Hotel. Such a lovely restaurant tucked away in the back. We made reservations online the night before. This restaurant does require to give a credit card and if you cancel 24 hours before, you are charged $50 no show/cancel fee per person. This is not a big restaurant and I understand. I did ask for a table that was private on the reservation so that we could be away from people. Garrison did not disappoint. Service: Everyone is so attentive. From the hostess that greeted us, our server, and even the manager came over to say hello and check on this. Chris, great crew of employees you have! We met the chef too, nice guy. Drinks: We were greeted with complimentary champagne. It was delicious, bubbly, and refreshing. My husband ordered an old fashion with rye. It was very nice. Food: The chef gave us a starter item that was complimentary. It was a bitesize morsel that as soon as I ate it, it took me back to Vienna. It gave me memories of standing in the snow waiting in line to get a Vienna sausage with German bread and mustard. Absolutely delicious! The flavor, textures, and just the crunch in a small bite. We ordered the smoked potato pierogi for appetizers. I just wish there was an even number so that we did not have to split the last one. I took a bite and the smell, the flavors, the texture of the dough took me back to when we were in Warsaw. The chef captured two of our past vacation in two dishes. The pierogi was soft and creamy potato filing with a hint of smoke with the chewiness of the dough and the light pan sear, just perfection. For my main dish, I got the smoked duck breast. It was served alongside raddico and a wonderful sauce that complimented the duck. The raddicio was crunchy with no bitterness. The sauce was sweet and savory, the duck was cooked perfectly. Loved it very much. We were given some complimentary dessert to finish our meal. The chewy gummy piece was creative, unique, and pretty to look at with good quality ingredients. I prefer chocolate so I ate this piece first. The chocolate was over the top delicious. What a flavor to end with after spectacular dinner. We skipped the Valentines Day crowd and pre-fixe menu to come on Thursday (2/17) and what an excellent decision. *blows hot air on nails to wipe on shirt* First, our waitress was incredible. All the wait staff was really friendly. My guy got up to use the mens room and left his napkin on the table. Our waitress came over, folded it, and gently placed it back on the table. Soon after she did that, another waiter came by and completely replaced it with a better folded napkin. Little things like that really let you know you're bound for a special evening. We got an amuse bouche from the chef which was a nice surprise, and always welcomed! One was a chickpea panisse with aioli that completely melted in my mouth -- reminded us both of an Indian dish we love at a local restaurant. The other was a profiterol with fois gras and a cassis reduction... a perfect pastry. Then we ordered the tuna crudo and the sourdough. The bread and butter was so GD good. We were advised to wait for the ice to melt on the crudo. This crudo was so rich in color, I couldn't take my eyes off it. Just spectacular, and a little spicy, too. We ordered the black truffle tots, something I knew we'd order strictly based on reviews. This dish is worth the price. Chef is NOT stingy on truffles AT ALL. It came out piping hot and we could not shut up about it after we left. Do not come here and NOT get this dish. Then we shared the branzino (head off). It was so delicate and tasted incredible. The staff warned us that because we ordered head off, there could be bones near the neck; there were, but we didn't mind and appreciated the warning. Then I ordered dessert based on a recommendation by the waitress. I loved the ice cream and fresh grapefruit, but didn't particularly care for the sorbet, it was too sour. I was still really excited about the presentation. The waitress then gave us chocolate and some fruit gummies. She made a joke that they were each 10mg, and my boyfriend and I busted out laughing. We want to come back and request her to be our waitress. She was simply outstanding; transparent and cool, really good at just being herself. We loved you Haley and can't wait to come back! Side note: We went to Olamaie for NYE dinner and spent a pretty penny -- this experience was 100% better than that. read more

We had visited Garrison's a few years back and had not been overly excited about the experience. It is located in downtown Austin in the Fairmont Hotel. If you haven't been there, you should take a look. They offer complimentary valet parking for up to 4 hours as well. A friend of ours was in town and suggested we revisit the restaurant - so we did. When we arrived the staff greeted us courteously, and we requested a seating at the counter overlooking the kitchen. We proceeded to order appetizers, our main course and drinks to complement the meal. Well, this time was WAY DIFFERENT. We had oysters, tater-tots, octopus and salads to start, followed by steak and a couple of fish options, mushrooms, and finally a few dessert options to round out the experience. I have to say, it was excellent. Our service was also 5 star, so if you are looking for a fine dining experience, consider Garrison's in the Fairmont Hotel. read more

2022 1st Review! Small scale restaurant, big bold flavor, and creative menu that worth Michelin stars recognition. I would like to dedicate my first review of the year to Garrison! It's definitely one of my favorite meals since pandemic! Thank you Frances T. for recommendation. Forget waiting in line for all the bbq places around town. Garrison is the best meal I had in Austin. Location: it's inside of the Fairmont hotel on the first floor. Before you find Garrison all the way in the back, there is a bar surrounded by food court kind of setting. Atmosphere: it's low key, casual, but upscale at the same time. I do not see they enforce any dress codes here. Come as you are, dress up and down. Open kitchen setting makes the restaurant very warm and welcoming. Service: (5/5) our server David is very attentive and very knowledgeable with the dishes. Since we have been drinking quite a bit before the New Years. We asked for tea service instead of any alcohol, and he recommended the Ontario ice wine tea. It was delicious! I also loved my creamy early grey too. Food: (5/5) for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, they only have prix fixe menu. We were so glad we were able to try the tasting menu. I enjoyed almost everything. Can't say that about all the tasting menus I've had. This tasting menu is better than some of the Michelin starred restaurants I've been to. Chef was very generous with the foie gras tart. It was delicious. I also loved the oyster with hibiscus Yuzu sauce. Wagyu beef tartare was seasoned very well. I really loved the smoked butternut squash pasta dish, squash pansotti. The Ingredients was smoked and flavored perfectly. I also love the grilled lettuce with the smoked flavor. Bf said the rib eye cap was one of the best steaks he had. I agreed the steak was prepared and seasoned very well. I was very very full by the time I finished the steak since everything was Texas size lol! Good thing there's only one dessert on this tasting menu, burnt cake. It's made pretty well without being too sweet which is right up my alley. Although the dessert was not as memorable as other dishes. Lastly, they gave us the parting gifts. I always enjoy this thoughtful thing that restaurants do. We had the cake next morning for breakfast which was perfect! Thank you Garrison for making my last night in Austin so memorable and make my New Year's Day special. I will be return to Austin just to eat at Garrison again! read more

Excellent food and great service! Great experience. Highly recommend Garrison to anyone.

My hubby booked this restaurant for Valentine's day, it was time to go on a proper date night. He booked Garrison which is located inside the Fairmont hotel. It lives up to the Fairmont standard, from ambiance to service, and of course the food was excellent. Chef Jakub did a tremendous job with every bite. Can't wait to come back soon! We had a pre-fixed menu with wine pairing. So so good! Parking: street or valet for $5 with dining here (good for up to 3 hrs.) read more
