Dean's Steakhouse is not an everyday dining spot. It is a place you go when you want something special...like a date night with the hubs. The pricing reflects the quality of the food, service, and ambiance, but it feels justified by the consistency and care put into every detail. Dean's Steakhouse offers an upscale, intimate setting blending classic steakhouse fare with modern Italian touches. Steaks are expertly prepared and seasoned, while accompaniments like pastas and appetizers add depth to the meal. We started our meal with this incredible bread which was lightly salted with a creamy butter center piece. We had lobster bisque and a salad as appetizers. We had salmon and pasta as entrees with dessert closing out the meal. Service was attentive and frequent, ensuring a smooth, relaxed dining experience. The cocktail and wine list is thoughtfully curated to complement the menu. Dean's is ideal for special occasions, with pricing matched to its high quality and consistent attention to detail.

LIMONCELLO PIE and a glass of Sauternes

Stopped in to have dessert and a drink. The Limoncello pie was sensational! I paired it with a glass of Sauternes that was perfect. Sat at the bar and had great service. Attentive but not too much. Lovely low lit restaurant setting with comfy chairs. Wish I came back for dinner. Will be sure to next time I visit.

Dean's was a killer experience. We celebrated a birthday there with a large group and I was thoroughly impressed by the experience we had. Major compliments to the ambiance theyve crafted in there, its probably one of the best steakhouse vibes in Austin. From the second you walk in the moody lighting, great music and extremely comfortable seating leaves an instant impression. The servers were immaculately attentive and made sure all our needs were met. The food was excellent...everything from their amazing starter bread and butter to the steaks showed a great attention to detail. I've found scouting out locations based on their bread and butter offerings has yielded great success lately. We had oysters, roasted bone marrow, the gem caesar salad (expertly dressed), grilled madagascar prawns (incredible) and the amazing bread to start and it set the bar quality wise. The cocktails were very creative- my favorite being the Apple Spiced Mule which tasted like a refreshing apple pie. We followed up with the ribeye, decadent short rib gnocchi, scallops and sides. I'd say the only minor disappointment was the Mac and cheese, which wasn't as rich as we hoped. But everything else compensated for that. Overall we loved the experience, which lasted a good 2-3 hours. In terms of steakhouses in Austin- I'd says Dean's is my new overall favorite now for a premium steakhouse experience. Just a lovely dinner from start to finish. Highly recommended.

While staying and the Jw Marriott for a work conference we also got to celebrate our friends birthday. This place was pretty accommodating for a Thursday night and no reservations. The staff is welcoming and they do not rush you. The vibe was right for our group not too quiet but not overly loud and chaotic. I think we brought the chaos with our laughter. I honestly don't remember what we ordered from the looks of my pictures we had a variety of options at our table. Scallops, chicken, pasta, spinach, it was all good! We had no complaints but the biggest compliment was the spinach and pasta! Oh and the bread ! It's always the bread. I ordered tiramisu for in room dessert and nope I was stuff and didn't get to enjoy it. The bread pudding is a MUST You want a yummy a dinner and good time before heading up to bed. Come here!

We picked this restaurant for our Girl's Weekend after a pampered spa day and was immensely underwhelmed. Our party was a group of 5 women, we were promptly greeted and seated. Our waiter introduced himself, brought waters, then asked for our cocktail orders. It was a while before he returned for our food selections. We love to order a plethora of things and eat family style: Apps: wagyu meatballs/ lobster bisque Entrees: Branzino & Filet Mignon Sides: creamed spinach, truffle potatoes, mac & cheese, broccolini, sweet potato casserole Food was good, but not great...Im sure the service played a huge role in how I feel. Primarily because the spa on the 5th floor set the bar so high. Our waiter was not attentive...He didn't ask if we wanted another round of drinks, didn't come over to see if we wanted dessert or had issues with any of the food we ordered. My friend had a bug fly in her wine and it seemed as if we watched it "Swim in Chardonnay" for almost 20mins before flagging him down to bring a new one. Needless to say, it was not a 5-star dining experience. I think we will probably eat offsite, if there's a next time. Ref: Brisco/Rm 1949 Check In/Out: 2/20-2/22/26

We went here for my mom's birthday dinner on Tuesday night. None of us have heard of it before despite being big Austin foodies -- and apparently there are close to no negative reviews...shocking!!! But now that we've experienced it, we can agree (mostly). Our server was Lawrence. He was flexible, especially after I arrived a little late due to parking. I got a mocktail and the penne vodka (daily special). We shared everything else. The hot stone wagyu was a fun moment, and the tiramisu was superb, even for someone like myself who typically doesn't order them. I'll only share the portions with my mom and sister. He also replaced my fork after I dropped it. He provided the parking validation to me, but when I scanned it at the machine it was invalid because the single use was already claimed. I did ironically bump into him after I got out of the elevator, and thanked him again for a wonderful evening!

My husband and I went to Dean's Italian Steakhouse for a friend's surprise birthday celebration. One of our friends made a reservation for our group of eight people. We drove up to the hotel that's part of the restaurant and got valet. Then we walked in to the restaurant. The restaurant is a good size. The hostesses were all very kind. We got there before our full party was there so the hostess in the front took us to the bar area where we found a few of our friends but there still weren't enough people there to get seated so we waited at the bar. We were eventually seated when a few more people in our party showed up. We were seated in a small room that had a few tables for larger parties. Our waitress came over quickly. She was very friendly and helpful. She was awesome the entire time. Our guest of honor hadn't arrived yet but she took our drink orders and answered any questions we had. She gave us menus to look over. Eventually the birthday boy showed up and was surprised. Success. The restaurant was dimly lit so when it was time to check the menu I had to use my phone flashlight to see it. We started off with some bread that they brought to our table. It was warm and soft and really good with butter that melts into the bread. For our main meal my husband and I ordered a Medium cooked 10 oz Flat Iron Steak, a Truffled Buccatini Pasta, and a Billionaires Potato. The steak was cooked a little more medium well and it was slightly saltier than I like but it was tender and really good despite that. The Truffled Buccatini Pasta was delicious. It was creamy and the chunks of bacon were plentiful and sweet which added extra flavor. The Billionaires Potato was tasty with fluffy potatoes and the bacon just elevated the flavor. For dessert my husband and I opted to get a Limoncello Pie. It was amazing. It was light and fluffy and had a crispy crust with a lemony flavor that was so good. Overall Dean's Italian Steakhouse was a really good place to go for a special occasion surprise birthday. The atmosphere was nice and intimate, the service was amazing, and the food was delicious.

Ordered an $112 dry aged rib-eye steak. Requested medium and this is what I received. It came out closer to well and burnt.
John P.

Ordered a medium dry aged rib-eye steak and this is what I got. This is insane for a $112 steak to come out pretty well done. Couldn't taste much other the burnt outside.

Happy hour menu

In town for a show at the Moody Center and staying in the JW Marriott, we stop in for a bite to eat at Dean's Italian Steakhouse, which is located within the hotel, before the show. We came in during their happy hour and since the weather was nice, we sat at the outdoor patio right by the bar. After looking over the happy hour menu, which includes wine, cocktails and small plates we decide to order one of each of the appetizers to share. First up was the shrimp scampi and it was really tasty as the garlic butter sauce really set the stage for the shrimp. Next were the meatballs, you get 3, which sit in a creamy polenta sauce that is topped with Romano cheese that are very tender and flavorful. After that was the burrata toast which was nicely grilled and topped with truffle honey, almonds and an apricot compote which made for a really nice bite. The oysters Rockefellers were next in line and were topped with a hefty amount of creamed spinach, bacon, and breadcrumbs. They were well seasoned and tasted great. Lastly, was the steak tartare. It was tender and well-seasoned and paired well with the other apps. I also ordered their signature Old Fashioned, and it was made well. They use Redemption bourbon, vanilla demerara and black walnut bitters which made for a really nice smooth drink. I would order this again. Overall, the staff was super friendly, and the food was delicious at a really good price point. Next time I'm in Austin I look forward to coming back and trying the full dinner menu.

Went into Deans on a Friday Night. They have valet service which is always good downtown as parking can become a hassle. We were seated fairly quickly but it took a while for the server to take our order. They give you bread while appetizers and meal is being prepared. The bread can be comparable to Texas Roadhouse bread very buttery and good. The drink was a bit harsh for myself and I would consider myself and old fashion person. The steak tasted really good but was on the rare side. Had to recook it at home and enjoy it later. We requested medium rare.

One word: Outstanding! My partner made reservations for my birthday dinner here and we were both absolutely blown away. From the hostess, to the decor of the restaurant to our server and of course the food; it was all superb! I'm not going to do much taking here because the pictures speak for themselves. When in Austin, run to Dean's! And a HUGE shout out to our server Ayhan who made sure the evening was extra special!

$75 raw bar

The service is a bit cold. We were there for a conference and asked to have a separate bill each for our alcoholic drinks. The server did that but pushed back against the separate checks. I understand as a former server that splitting checks is considered a no-no, especially at a fine dining establishment. But this is a steakhouse in a conference hotel. I would think they would be willing to cater to the needs of conference-goers, each of whom have their individual parameters based on a budget that they have no control over. I know POS systems allow you to separate checks, so this really shouldn't be a problem, especially when the tip will come out to over $70. Be careful about ordering cocktails here. Our server up-sold us on a tequila, which turned our $16 margarita into a $70 margaritas. Make sure you know the price of what you are ordering. The food itself is mediocre. The raw bar is fine, but very overpriced at $75 and it only comes with six oysters, four shrimp, and two teaspoons of tuna tartar. I do not recommend the short rib gnocchi. The gnocchi itself is quite mushy, and the short rib overcooked and over-salted. The side of broccoli left much to be desired. It may have been charred perfectly but the texture was affected by the partially melted Parmesan, which really didn't complement the fresh vegetable. The only thing I could recommend is the key lime pie. Tart and sweet, just like it should be, with nicely charred fresh meringue on top. The restaurant itself is quite dark, with ordinary steakhouse decor.

Shrimp cocktail
Cindy L.

Ariana was spectacular with unparallel service. I was extremely disappointed with the main dish of Bucatini. It should be in the description as lemon pasta, lemon, didn't really taste the truffles. Traded it in for a shrimp cocktail, a much better choice. I WOULD RECOMMEND

The bread of life!!!

Watching the chefs work up close adds so much to the experience and really highlights the care and skill that goes into every dish. We started with the morita shrimp appetizer, then had the short rib special and the half chicken. Every bite was packed with flavor- the food is consistently incredible. What really sets Ember apart, though, is the service. It's consistently warm, attentive, and perfectly timed without ever feeling overbearing. Whether it's your first visit or your fifth, Ember delivers on food, experience, and hospitality. One of our go-to spots in Austin and always worth coming back to.

Overall, I…read morethink Ember Kitchen is certainly worth checking out, but I think I might order a little differently next time. First off - parking is convenient in the Seaholm parking garage. My understanding is that Ember will validate, but it wasn't apparent to me how that works and honestly I walked out forgetting it and having to pay the bill for parking - oh well. I came with a party of six and we were celebrating a birthday. The team at Ember was very accommodating. We were seated downstairs in their "Speakeasy" room. It's a bit dark, but cool atmosphere. There are other dining options if you prefer a bit brighter setting. We were served complimentary birthday shots! These were quite tasty - enough so that I ordered another round of those citrus based shooters. Everyone at the table ordered a cocktail. Nearly all the cocktails on the menu are going to be served in a feminine looking glass and with a flower. The cocktail menu is pretty much for the ladies. On the bright side, they have a good selection of bourbons, tequila, etc available for straight pours at a decent price. Not extensive selection, but I think a good choice - enough that I think you will find something to fit your price point and taste profile. Our waitress was top notch. Very attentive and paid close attention to the orders from our gluten sensitive guest ensuring she ordered safely. We ordered a couple small plates as appetizers for the whole table. Everyone loved the crab cake. I thought it was tasty but wasn't expecting whole kernel corn in a crab cake so that threw me off a little. Market seafood crudo - this is a fish appetizer and as the name implies changes based on availability. The night we ate was a Hamachi or Salmon option. The salmon had a bit more of a spicy sauce so we chose that. It was a hit. We also chose a tuna tartare and it was fresh, good but didn't knock our socks off. When ready for the main course - our waitress had a number of off-menu specials to tell us about and honestly many were very interesting options. In fact, we chose to split a 50oz Tomahawk steak. This was a huge steak plated on a hot platter, already sliced off the bone with some fingerling potatoes. This was honestly the most expensive part of the meal (no surprise), but also the least impressive. Now visually it was a spectacle for sure, but the meat certainly had pieces that were tough with some large pieces of fat. Now I don't mind the fat, but when sliced there were a couple pieces that were nothing but fat, other pieces still that were mostly gristle. We all agreed the seasoning was just missing, it seemed to have no seasoning at all. It was also quite charred. One of the claims to fame here is their Josper oven and clearly it can put a good char on a steak. Some in our party liked it, but I thought it was a bit much. There can be fine line between a good steak crust and a burnt crust. I thought it was a bit much, and maybe why the seasoning seemed missing. On the bright side, it was cooked correctly to order. My only problem was, for the price, this was a complete miss. We also ordered scallops and the morida shrimp. Both were excellent. These were probably worth coming back for. The morida shrimp come served in a bowl with a rich sauce that was enjoyed by the whole party. The scallops come pan seared and were cooked perfectly - which is key to enjoying a good scallop. Be aware that the typical order of scallops though comes with only two scallops - rather light even for a single individual, because these were not on the "small plates" menu, it was supposed to be a full entree. Great experience overall, but we just felt not quite worth what we had to pay for it. Overall, it was just over $150 per person. What could have saved it - for that price, the steak HAS to be on point.

We started with the Meatballs that pair wonderfully with their Italian Bread. Flavorful and plentiful dish and def get the bread! Next came the Bone Marrow & Tuna Crudo. I will say though for some reason after we finished our Meatballs it took them quite a while to bring our dishes after that. Bone Marrow was divine and also paired well with the Italian Bread. Tuna Crudo was not what I expected because it was warm and I was expecting it to be cold. But it was good and I love eggplant. Our main dish was the Agnolotti Alla Piemontese. From the description it seemed to hit all the boxes since we are meat lovers (contains braised beef & pork shoulder) and truffle. I love me some truffle. When we ordered the Agnolotti Alla Piemontese I asked him does it have a lot of truffle flavor because I love truffle. He said oh we can definitely add more truffle if you would like when the dish comes out. When the dish came they had the chef come shave an extra truffle on the dish. I honestly could not taste the difference. Was not enough truffle flavor for me. Note the extra truffle is an added charge. Overall lovely experience. If we return we will need to try some different dishes to give it another try.
