On a Saturday night, this place was packed! The line all the way to the gate when you enter, and someone was greeting you to direct you to wherever you aimed to be in The Vortex. The person greeting us, even shared some insights for some upcoming shows. They'd be having that seem great to attend. It's fun to have that sense of community being welcomed into the restaurant as soon as you get there! We split up, and I went to grab seats while the other member of my party stood in line. Seating wasn't difficult, and it was well ventilated, which was highly favorable and much appreciated in the heat with missing fans, running constantly, cute ambience, lighting with the small bulb lights, and even bug spray available they make sure that this dining experience was covered on all bases so that you would have a great one. The menus are easily accessible, with multiple copies, being passed down the line, and sitting in the stand as soon as you walk up. However, after hearing about the restaurant online, and taking some time to read the menu prior to arrival, I knew what was on my mind - carbonara. From arrival to ordering with maybe about a 30 to 40 minute wait however, it was worthwhile. The dishes are made to order, with fresh pasta being used, making it even better. We opted for two half orders to share, and that was definitely enough food because we ended up even taking leftovers. We also got an order of the garlic bread with tons of roasted garlic, parmesan, and green onions. While the carbonara was flavorful and what my mind was initially set on, the other pasta actually ended up stealing the show and was what we finished immediately the Leopold had a pesto base and a nice hint of spice even without the peppers (which were taken off in our order). Overall, the most difficult part of this meal was parking, and the fight was completely forgotten after my first taste. They have a small lot, however, if you circled the nearby neighborhood a couple times you're sure to find a place to put your car. read more

Patrizi's is my favorite spot for handmade fettuccine--honestly, some of the best pasta I've ever had. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves fresh pasta. The East Austin location can get pretty busy, so it's best to arrive early if you want to avoid a long wait. The spacious patio is very dog-friendly, and there's an indoor bar right across from the food truck where you can grab a drink or a glass of wine while waiting. There's even a cute cat that roams around, which adds to the charm. The Carbonara Alexandra has always been my favorite. The addition of the runny egg yolk makes the sauce extra creamy and rich, and once you start eating it, it's genuinely hard to stop. read more

Missed the summer happy hour deal this time, but I will definitely be back for it. Only outside seating here, but plenty of fans and mists make it pleasant even for a hot Austin weeknight. We got the Marfa tomatoes, Patrizi's salad, and the bruschetta-- I typically go for the garlic bread, but so glad I tried the bruschetta this time around, as it was delicious! The bread at Patrizi's is truly unmatched in any form. Marfa tomatoes were so fresh!! Entrees: the Great Leopold and Karah's Diavolo (we had a ton of leftovers, as the portions are deceptively large). Love having so many vegetarian options and especially one with a nut-free pesto. Finally, the kitchen happened to have an extra beets dish and passed it over to us (which was so nice!!)-- I will actually order this one in the future as the taste was splendid and unique. I enjoyed my meal at Patrizi's. It wasn't the traditional Italian meal that I was looking for though. The garlic bread was a different take on garlic bread and although, it was tasty, it just wasn't traditional. The Patrizi's red sauce and meatball were very good, but I felt there were just too many things put on top of the spaghetti and meatball and it should've been able to speak for itself. I went in with very low expectations (not sure why?!) The sauces were all the excellent and unique. The meatball and chicken were both great additions! The bruschetta with eggplant caponata was delicious! Their bread was so good and then you put the delicious eggplant on top - chef's kiss! The seasonal salad was farro, sweet potatoes and other interesting things with feta cheese. I didn't think I would like it because I don't like sweet things, but it was excellent. If you like spice, add the chilis for $1.50. They're great. A classic spot off the bustling Manor Road, Patrizi's offers comfort food after a long day. Although I'm a bigger fan of their brick and mortar location, the food truck spot offers more of that classic weird Austin vibe. Found in the Vortex, the outdoor seating is just beautiful and you get to experience all of the events that they have in the space while you dine. I also love to get a drink from the butterfly bar while I wait for my food as their decor is so quirky and fun to look at. On to Patrizi's itself, this is just classic Austin. I always opt to get the pasta and salad combo as I feel it gets you the best bang for your buck. I'm a fan of either the diavolo or the pesto leopold's as both taste so amazing and has that citrus punch that I like. Surprisingly, their salads take the cake for me because they're so refreshing and the ingredients all come together to make a really high-quality salad. Patrizi Salad - 10/10 delicious. Definitely try! Garlic Bread - Chefs kiss! Freshly baked, soft, and topped with fresh flavorful garlic. Patrizi Pasta with Red Sauce - 6/10. So disappointing! The pasta itself was clearly made in house and delicious + fresh but the sauce was underwhelming and way too sweet for my taste. It was a good experience but I expected more. We got the Abbiocco which is meant for two but probably could serve closer to 3 and for $55 is a good deal. It comes with salad, veggie, protein, garlic bread and three half servings of pasta. My favorites were for sure the cacio e Pepe and the pomodoro. The garlic bread has some garlic confit that was a lovely touch. You can tell that the pasta is made fresh and the ingredients were also very fresh tasting. Also portion sized are very very good for the price. The seating is outdoor and there's plenty of it. Patrizi's was recommended to me by a friend and it's safe to say that it's going to one that I'll be coming back to. The pasta is freshly made and has a bite very different from boxed pasta. We ordered the carbonara alexandra, lemon thyme pasta, and the garlic bread. The portions were very filling. If you're looking to share food, get a pasta dish and the garlic bread to share and that would be enough. The garlic bread will change your life if you're a garlic fiend like me. I went early, had an early dinner, then craved the pasta again the same night and had my leftovers. With everyone eating outside, so are the mosquitos, and there's plenty of them active. We heard a lot of good things about Patrizi's and had a craving for some good pasta, so we figured we'd drop by. The parking situation isn't too bad as there's a lot of spaces to choose from. You enter a big courtyard that looks pretty nice and there's a ton of seating inside. There's an attached bar as well, so they recommend grabbing a drink while you wait for your food to come out. They have two different areas to sit at, all with misters if you're hot, and one side includes a stage for what is live music or shows at some point. As for the food, we won't sugarcoat it, Patrizi's is not that good. We ordered their pomodoro with a meatball and cacio e pepe with chicken. The pomodoro was not special at all, pretty standard for a pomodoro anywhere, except for the fact this sauce was just missing something and it was pretty thin. The meatball was also strange, not very firm and fell apart way too easily, plus the mix itself tasted a bit odd as there were onions in it. As for the cacio e pepe, it was alright. The pasta was relatively firm and there should have been more cream and cheese in it. The chicken was easily the best part of both dishes as it was moist and seasoned well. Look, the pasta isn't bad, but when you're paying around $20 a plate and the portions are small and they come out on paper plates with plastic utensils, you have a right to critique it. This is one of the rare times in Austin we've gone heavily against the grain and would not recommend you stop by Patrizi's. There's definitely potential but just be wary. read more

Great homemade pasta. Even though the food is served in paper plates and plastic forks, they do the job. The order line can get long at times with slightly longer wait times when it's busy. Best thing to do is to sacrifice a person to the food line and run off to the confusing bathrooms then buy some drinks. The dinner for two is more like a dinner for three. We still had a lot of food left for only about $55 or something. Good way to try everything although some of my favorite pasta choices are not in the dinner for two. Such a great Austin gem! Parking can be a little tricky since it's not a huge parking lot but cars come and go pretty quickly so you may be able to snag a spot (there is also street parking available). PLENTY of outdoor seating (they only have outdoor seating). Don't be intimidated by the long line, there's more than enough tables and seating. The menu is pretty simple but very easy to follow. A little pricey but it's absolutely delicious and you definitely get your money's worth for the portion size. Both plates of pasta were delicious! The Patrizi's Red Sauce was nice and savory and salty and had the perfect pasta to sauce ratio. The Lemon Thyme pasta was heavier than we were expecting, very rich but very flavorful as well. You could honestly share a plate or expect to take home leftovers. Pasta is made fresh daily and has an amazing texture that store bought pasta just doesn't have. The Butterfly Bar next door serves drinks that you can get before or after ordering. Lots of cocktails, wines, beers, and mocktails but all are pretty pricey. Patrizi's does offer free water at different water stations around the outdoor seating area however. Finally tried patrizis! As someone who doesn't enjoy Italian normally this was such a delight. Got the pomodoro, bruschetta and garlic bread. The pasta is fresh, al dente and the sauce is so creamy. We only waited for a couple minutes, but we got there pretty soon after they opened on a Tuesday night. By ~5:30pm, the line had gotten pretty long. Truly the best pasta in Austin! Made-from-scratch Italian food just a few steps away from The Vortex theater and Butterfly Bar, this place is a must try. Patrizi's operates from a food truck but has its own well-maintained, shaded eating area that is sooo cute and welcoming. Many are willing to queue for freshly-made scratch cooking of this quality, so lines are common. However, the owner/chef takes great pride in customer service so will regularly be out talking to the people in line, asking if they had any questions, and just chatting. Trust me, once you try Patrizi's, it will be hard to feel the same about your other Italian food sources (unless it's your own or your Mom's). Not worth the wait on a weekend evening. I've been to the restaurant location in West Austin before so I was looking forward to the food. On a Saturday night, it took 45min-1 hr to order our food, and another 45min-1 hr for our food to arrive. While we were in line, they let us know that they had run out of protein (7pm), so their famous carbonara was off the menu as well as the other dishes that had protein. A couple of people in our party had ordered appetizers, which you would think would come out first, but these still took 30-45minutes to come out. I ordered the Diavolo - first few bites tasted good after the long wait, but it was way too spicy/peppery with not enough cream to balance it out. The ambiance is nice and there are lots of tables to sit at. The metal chairs are uncomfortable though. You help yourself to water from the coolers.
