It's been a pretty good while since my wife and I ate at this charming restaurant, with a cozy (not crowded) feel, that always smells great, has easy free parking out front, an engaging manager, Zach, a wonderful staff of servers, and an excellent Kitchen! I like the menu too as it has good variety. With the above said another excellent dining experience last evening before heading out to a show. My wife and I split a chopped salad, that is full of a variety of fresh ingredients, including cheese and meat, along with meatballs, which were tasty. My wife was not that hungry so she just had the golden beets appetizer as her entrée and enjoyed those. I had the roasted chicken, which is superb, perfectly crispy, but tender and juicy and a nice size portion that came with roasted brussels sprouts that are without question the best in town and among the best brussels sprouts I've ever eaten. We had a side order of brussels sprouts too. Fairly simple, with the right amount of salt and butter and or oil. If you like brussels sprouts at all, I would highly recommend these brussels sprouts. Desserts looked inviting, but we passed, and I had a cup of coffee as compared to a latte or a cappuccino because their machine was broken according to our server. The coffee was, well, coffee. My wife and I both commented that we need to come to this restaurant more often and I think we will do so. A complete well executed dining experience by the chef, manager, and servers. A nice little Italian restaurant on the west side of Austin with ample free parking. There are a couple of tables outside but mostly indoor seating. I do like the interior layout and design. Not supper fancy but nice! The staff are super nice and professional. They gave us time to decide on our orders. Then checked back with us several times during the meal. The food menu is decent offering pasta, pizza. sandwiches, soups and salads. I ordered the Classico pizza, which basically is a supreme pizza. It was very good and the meat (pepperoni) wasn't greasy. I dined at the restaurant for the first time today for lunch. Their fryer was down so you couldn't order the calamari or the french fries or the other fried foods on their menu which was fine. I decided to order the pasta tagliatelle with a creamy Alfredo sauce with mushrooms garlic, scallions and arugula. It was very bland and did not have any seasoning whatsoever. I was very disappointed my companion on the other hand ordered the red fish and it was looked delicious but I guess I just made the wrong choice. Our service was good. This was my first experience at Cipollina which was a neighborhood Italian bistro in a close knit neighborhood. Parking was extremely limited and I can predict at night use ride sharing. We were nicely greeted when we entered the establishment and found a table. Our server was very professional and courteous. It was hard to determine which to try first where all looked good but selected the Pan Seared Red Fish. This was a great place to dine during the day and has a romantic setting for night. They said everything here was freshly made so was a bit excited to try my wife's pasta. The Red Fish was beautifully prepared and had some roasted cauliflower, roasted corn, heirloom grape tomatoes, and castelvetrano olives around it. The fish tasted spectacular and had wonderful flavor. I tasted the pasta and it was definitely tasted like it was made in-house where had buttery flavor. I was impressed with Cipollina. read more

Pro-tip: M-F 30% off pizzas. Pizzas are individual pie-sized, so the discount makes it much worth it. Cool neighborhood vibe, and usually gets busy given that. Service kind and attentive. Food is average. While the chicken Parmesan was $30, it was indeed good and the best item we ordered. Would certainly order again! The Brussels sprouts, stated as a popular dish, were too oily. In fact the pizza was very oily too. Didn't love that. The desserts were also just okay. Visiting Austin and my grandkids wanted Pizza. As always I check for nearby locations on Yelp. I posted pics. Everything was delicious. From the appetizer menu. I ordered the buscata with peppers ( probably misspelled cuz I don't recall the correct name of this dish). Pizza and side plate of beets. The beets were delicious it had a sweet pecan nut flavor glaze. The beets did not taste earthy. Service was great. It surprised me that not many people were there. From beginning to end we had a lovely experience here! They let us even change our reservation from 7 to 8 people last minute! Everyone enjoyed their visit here last night! We started with garlic knots and calamari which were delish esp the garlic knots! The sun was in our friends eyes and she requested the server just turn the blinds the other way which she immediately did! Our entrees came shortly after and everything was yummy! We all tried each others dishes and they were all great! I highly recommend the bolognese! The chocolate mousse was also wonderful! From what I saw, it was decently priced. Cipollina is a quaint neighborhood Italian spot that's great for a date night if you're looking for classics done right! I made reservations for 2 at 8:15 pm on a Saturday night. We arrived about 5 minutes early and were seated right away. FAST FACTS: * Parking - the free lot in front of the restaurant is small but there's also street parking nearby * Reservations - available online through OpenTable * Online ordering - available online through their website * Happy hour - Monday through Thursday from 3-6 pm with 30% off bottles of wine and pizzas * Closed on Sundays SERVICE - Our server was just okay... she never shared her name but she was quick and efficient with taking our order and getting food out to our table. She wasn't overly personable but she got the job done. PRICING - The total was $108.25.00 after tax ($8.25) but before tip for a small chopped salad ($12), Cipollina pizza ($18), two chicken parmesans ($30 each), and a tiramisu ($10). I feel like the pricing was reasonable for the portion size and quality of ingredients. Complimentary bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar are served to the table (although we had to ask for it to be brought after seeing other tables with it). CHOPPED SALAD (8/10) - Fantastic salad packed with tons of fresh veggies! The Italian dressing is absolutely delicious and there was the perfect amount coating all the chopped ingredients. The pieces of provolone cheese and salami add a nice savory element. I'd order this again! CIPOLLINA PIZZA (8/10) - Great option to share as an appetizer! The pizzas are prepared in a wood burning oven, which you can taste in the thin crust. The mushrooms were plentiful and the agrodolce added a nice touch of sweetness in every bite! The chèvre cheese was packed with flavor and the balsamic reduction drizzle tied it all together. I'd order this again! CHICKEN PARMESAN (8/10) - Delicious and classic! The chicken was an ideal thickness, cooked well (still juicy), and the breading was seasoned well. The mozzarella was perfectly melty across the top and the highlight was the homemade spaghetti noodles! It's a great portion size. I'd order this again! TIRAMISU (9/10) - This was one of the better classic versions of tiramisu I've had! It was served nice and cold, the lady fingers were soaked with espresso, and the mascarpone was perfectly creamy! It's ideal for sharing. I'd order this again! This was my first time at Cipollina's but I would definitely go back and will recommend it to others in the west Austin area! I ordered the Tagliatelle Alfredo and I was a bit disappointed to be honest. It was not flavorful at all. It was a good portion size, but not very tasty. I usually don't need to add extra condiments whenever I eat at a restaurant, but I needed to add black pepper and red chili flakes to make it more edible. I went on a weekday and it seemed to be moderately crowded, but the waiters were a bit slow. I know pasta is usually a heavier meal, but I think this was a bit too much. It was very buttery and the dish did not have much actual flavor or seasoning. Parking is limited, but I was able to find a spot on a weekday at least. Finally made my way to Cipollina after years of passing it in Clarksville thinking "oh I need to give that place a try". The curb appeal is very nice and if the weather isn't insanely oppressive, I'd say it's worth trying to get one of the few tables up front. Inside isn't bad to look at either, really enjoyed the dim, cozy ambiance all around. As for the food, the margherita pizza was closer to olive oil bread with tomatoes and cheese. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, but my pizza snob instincts wouldn't allow me to compare it Little Deli or All Day. The chicken parm was very tasty and cooked well, both pasta and chicken. I was pleasantly surprised with the flavor of the sauce and the texture of the pasta. At $30 it's pretty pricey for what it is, but I can say it was one of the better ones I've had in Austin. I will specify I went during New Years Eve and it was a pre fixe menu. The place was packed. I ended up going with the white bean puree, meatball (shared with a friend), the golden beets salad, seafood risotto, and the tiramisu. The food was okay. The appetizers were good the meatball was flavorful and the white bean purée was a tad bland. The golden beats also came bland but with the pistachios and herbs it was a great combo. Parking is a bit limited too. The food is so good. We ordered the shishito and burrata appetizer, which was excellent. Some peppers had spice but it wasn't too bad. For entrees, we ordered the tagliatelle Alfredo and the ricotta/pesto pizza. Pure excellence. We added a nice Pinot noir to our meal which was perfect. The service and ambiance was great too. Red Sauce Italian for the Tarrytown crowd. The customers are a geriatric but well upholstered collection of affluent professorial types. Think name chair emeriti who retired eight years ago. There are probably some doctors and lawyers in the mix. Looking for East Side cutting edge Yuppies? They are only there if they are taking Dad out for dinner. The place is comfortably decorated in the style of a 1930's botequim with big reflecting mirrors with dark hardwood frames. It is a beautiful and relaxing room. * * * The execution is perfectly credible. Normally, even well done Red Sauce Italian does not get me excited. But there is one huge huge exception that kicks this place way up the ratings. I will always give five stars to a place that has a dish that is "best in its category". For Cippolina, the Badge of Distinction Award goes to their Italian meatballs. Every American Italian restaurant does an Italian meatball. Cippolina's are four standard deviations above the mean in quality. * * * What is the secret? They completely char the outside of the meatball, so it has a tasty charred crust similar to the char you would put on a steak. The char packs a flavor that is out of this world. Charring a meatball is difficult without having the meatball fall completely apart in the cooking. So a lot of careful work had to be done in making the mix to both give the meat good flavor and to allow the meat to hold up to that kind of brutal treatment under the flame. Cippolina has figured out how to do that. As a cook who makes a lot of ground beef dishes and knows all about failure, I take off my hat to this impressive accomplishment. * * * I am not the only person who thinks this way. Looking around the restaurant, about 1/3 of the patrons ordered a meatball appetizer before having their main dish. Another 1/4 of the patrons had spaghetti and meatballs as their main course. So the word is out about Cippolina's meatballs. * * * Now that the word is out, Spread the word. You know it would not be a terrible thing If some people under the age of 50 chose to dine in This utterly meritorious place. read more

The pricing is reasonable and it's a good place for kiddos too (Pizzas are good). I've enjoyed the mussels and they have a great calamari as well. read more

However, the place we were seated had rips in the chairs that were itchy and dug into my skin, but I can't complain too much considering I didn't call ahead. I love Italian food and was excited to try their spaghetti and meatballs. At first, it tasted super good but I won't lie the sauce was a little weird and was almost watery. Halfway eating I got a sudden burst of nausea and had to run to the bathroom and gagged until I felt better. I lost my appetite after that and didn't eat until the next day because of the lingering sickness.
