Was able to secure a reservation during the 4th of July holiday week, but reservation availabilty is usually very limited. They offer valet parking but we were able to get free parking on the street. We were greeted promptly upon arrival and seated in a booth with a view of the entirestaurant, which made the whole experience feel a bit more relaxed and elevated. It's a lively space, but the booth still gave us a comfortable corner to settle into and enjoy the meal. The service was elevated with friendly conversation. We started the meal with complimentary focaccia bread, which came out warm and topped with fresh herbs. The waiter brought out olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping upon request. For dinner, we started with the Caesar Salad alla Tommy, which I remember from a previous dining experience was a highlight. The Caesar salad was so fresh and flavorful with a nice balance of creamy and tangy flavors and a crunchy bite. For our entrees, I ordered the Mafaldine with unghi & tartufo which turned out to be the most memorable pasta of the table. The dish had a cream sauce with mushrooms and truffles that was rich, well-textured, and comforting without feeling heavy. Who would have thought an Italian red sauce joint would go straight to my top tier Austin recs? Place is just legendary. Sammie's has been hyped up on social media for a long time and I gotta say it's still underrated! I will gladly have Sammie's take the Pepsi challenge against red sauce joints in NYC/NJ etc. In fact, I've told friends and family that I am going to take them to Sammie's when they visit from there. We just had such a fantastic experience - everything..the vibe..the red light fixtures and the color of the booths and the floor..the service - our server was great..loved their outfits..really had an old school little italy feel to it. The food was much better than I even anticipated - as a guy who grew up on NJ diner mozzarella sticks, I have a high bar for them and these were magnificent. And seriously...taking the "everything's bigger in Texas" slogan and applying them to mozzarella sticks?! top 10 achievements of the decade. The chicken parm was perfect - well seasoned, proper amount of crisp..the basil on top...the perfect browning of the cheese. Also the lasanga was excellent..and best part - the leftovers..took it home and the next two days put them in a small cast iron and re-heated them..and the magic was right there in my hill country kitchen! Lastly and certainly not least - the cannoli...just look at the photo below.. I'll say, yes, the place is pricey but you can really easily split these entrees and then it becomes cheaper than a jersey strip center Italian joint. Back in the Dec. we did a guys trip to Austin and the culinary highlight of the weekend was Sammie's. Stepping through the doors felt like stepping into elegance and onto the set of Goodfellas. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were brought back to a booth immediately. The restaurant was packed and the noise level is super high. There are too many tables for such a small room .We had to wait over 15 minutes and had to get a waiter's attention. He was very nice, and professional . When the appetizers were getting ready to arrive, a woman brought out plates and proceeded to put them in front of us , reaching over me without excusing herself to where her face and mine were very close . I went to Sammie's for my birthday dinner and loved it so much I think I'm going to make it a yearly tradition. I loved everything about this meal. Seriously such an adorable, intimate Italian restaurant! The service is absolutely phenomenal. It feels very upscale. I loved the waiters' outfits and everyone was so helpful, friendly, and genuinely made it feel like they wanted me to have the best experience possible! I will say it's pretty small, which means it gets loud quickly. By the end of the meal my throat was honestly hurting from having to talk so loud the whole time. Now to the food. W. O. W. We started with the mozzarella sticks, which were so solid! They come with a pesto basil ranch that I would love to have in my fridge daily. We split the lasagna between two people and still had leftovers. That being said it was also $38 so definitely not cheap! When we walked into Sammie's, I was immediately struck by the nice vintage feel - low lighting, red leather, Tony Bennett playing. The lighting made menu-reading a bit challenging but a little light from our cell phones solved that. This is a really classic Italian menu. Nothing too nouvelle. My wife and I started with the white anchovies with roasted red peppers, which were in olive oil with garlic and other spices. Very nice and went well with the house focaccia. We shared a Caesar salad. It was delicious , made with bread crumbs rather than croutons. It was also a bit spicy, which we liked, maybe from Calabrian chiles or similar. For her entree, my wife had the Linguini Vongole. She loved it. Whole clams in a nice, light sauce, also a tad spicy. This is her go-to dish at Italian restaurants and Sammie's passed with flying colors. I had the eggplant parmigiana, also one of my litmus tests for an Italian restaurant. It was good but not amazing, to my taste. I like very little breading and a strong eggplant taste. Sammie's version is lighter on breadcrumbs than most places but still more than I'd like. To be fair, it was good enough that I ate it all! I think most people who like eggplant parm will like it. We shared a large piece of excellent NY style cheesecake. It had a few berries on top and a little chocolate drizzle but otherwise was plain and creamy, like it should be. Service was great. Friendly, attentive and prompt, never obtrusive. It was a very relaxed, well-paced experience. Our total bill with tip and no alcohol was around $150. Not cheap but worth it for a very nice dinner. More often than not I will try a hyped spot & not understand the hoopla but everything was divine! We ordered the vodka pasta, the cacio e Pepe & I also ordered the chicken parmigiana (not pictured) and the chicken was thin, crispy, perfectly accompanied by a red sauce with broiled melty cheese. Came here for a colleagues birthday. Such a quaint spot and unique decor. They were packed, and that seems daily! The lighting is very low for a dark ambiance. The hostess didn't seem the nicest, but could've been an off day. We were seated and promptly greeted by our waiter, she was great. We all got drinks and a couple appetizers. Heard about sammies through my boss, he said it was the best italian food in austin and i have to say i agree! It is a bit tough to get into, make a reservation about 2 weeks out i'd say. The ambiance was lovely. Very dimly lit, lots of candlelight, the perfect date night. For entrees we had the chicken parm which was ginormous, perfect for my fiance who has the appetite of a small pony, we also had the rigatoni which was flavorful and imo, the exact right portion for a hungry female, both my friend and i had it and felt satiated without being overfull. Her partner got the white pasta with mushrooms, i cant remember the name but he said it was also fantastic. For dessert we ordered the chocolate nichole... i cant remember how to spell it but it was really good without being too sweet. I personally didnt love the passionfruit sorbet, but my friend enjoyed it. The drinks were awesome as well! Our reservation was the earliest we could get and it was at 8:45, and so we stayed probably 20 mins after closing but service never slowed and no one ever rushed us which was very appreciated!! Our bill was about $400 for 4 people, so it isnt cheap, but that is with 4 cocktails, 2 apps and 2 desserts. I would budget around $100 a person. The flavors felt like too much and it didn't hit the spot. I took my leftovers home and it honestly tasted better the next day. My boyfriend tried some of mine and he thoroughly enjoyed it. He got the spaghetti and meatballs. He said the meatballs had a weird taste too and he wasn't a fan, but the spaghetti with the tomato sauce tasted really fresh and delicious. Our server was amazing! Super attentive and sweet. The food was ok, for the price we expected more. The focaccia was pretty bad, super chewy, while I appreciate good quality olive oil, if you soak a bread in it, it should be in every bite not just randomly. The olives and herbs in the bread were nice but I was missing that classing crunchy top of a focaccia. The pasta was cooked perfect, however every sauce or protein was way too salty, even the appetizers. It was to a point that it wasn't edible. I had high expectations for this place. And although I had a good time, I was a little bummed. The music does not go with restaurant lol. It just doesn't. Maybe they change it up everyday, I don't know but we were there on a Saturday night. I love old school hip hop music but not in an Italian spot that has romantic feels lol. There isn't that much space in there either. The service was good though. I got the chicken parm, it was a little overcooked but still good and my date got the Snapper (which doesn't come with pasta by the way). They give you bread but nothing to dip it in like oil. I asked for some and they gave me oil a vinegar for a salad. Usually Italian places have oil and parm cheese to dip bread in. The best thing about this place was the Caesar salad. Went here for an anniversary date night and had a wonderful time! Food was delish and the staff was wonderful. After mentioning it was our anniversary, we were offered complimentary champagne. The ambience was great, did have to get a reservation a month in an advance for a Monday evening dinner. Absolutely LOVED the Caprese salad 10/10! read more

I booked this to celebrate my daughter's graduation.Unfortunately we had a disappointing dinner. The food was fine,some was even really good. However, they rush you out of there.They grab your plates before you are done. We ordered appetizers,salads and entrees and they rushed us out in under an hour. Very unpleasant. read more

We were excited to have secured a last minute reservation recently, having wanted to try Sammie's for a while. I will just cut to the chase and say our experience was a pretty big disappointment. Starting with a simple caprese salad... if a classic like this is being offered it needs to be about top quality ingredients. In this case the tomatoes were flavorless and the mozzarella, rubbery. The spaghetti and meatballs were the highlight of our meal, the meatballs not heavy with well balanced seasoning, however the pasta had no character. Our veal chop (a once in a decade or so indulgence) was actually spoiled and smelled and tasted of fish. The service was pleasant and attentive and the room has a fun, stage-set feel of a 50's Little Italy restaurant. Hard skip for $350 for 2! read more
