Reservations are encouraged, and the ambiance here is wonderful -- it's fine dining with mood lighting, cozy seating, and wonderful service paired with excellent food. We always order family style and like to try lots of options from the menu, so we did just that here at Jeffrey's. I started with a perfectly crisp dirty gin martini and snacked on the popovers and popcorn while we decided what to order. Our waiter was great -- sadly, I forgot his name! There's also a bar area with tables and couches where you can order and enjoy the same menu on a first-come-first-served basis if you aren't able to snag a reservation. I enjoyed every bite as we shared the deviled eggs, pork belly and duck rillettes, tarts of beef tartare, bibb lettuce salad, a steak filet, the Yukon gold pommes purée, and the nettle and fontina cannelloni. I used to live in Austin and had wanted to try Jeffrey's for the longest time. I heard about them since they produce some of the best bartenders in Austin so I grabbed a reservation because I knew that I had to try it out. For food, my friend and I ordered the lobster bisque, porterhouse (medium rare of course) with all of the sauces, and steak fries. We also tried the Toki Swizzle and the Golden Hour. Finn, the lead bartender made us all of our expertly crafted cocktails. My last night in Austin was spent catching up with a girlfriend I hadn't seen in six years, so it felt only fitting to celebrate the occasion at a legendary restaurant like Jeffrey's, located in the charming Clarksville neighborhood. I had heard so many great things about Jeffrey's, including its reputation as an Austin fine-dining staple since 1975. The restaurant strikes that rare balance of feeling cozy and intimate while still maintaining an undeniably upscale atmosphere. Colin was our server and he did an amazing job taking care of us throughout the evening. Shortly after we were seated, we were served complimentary bread with stracciatella cheese, which got me super excited. Stracciatella happens to be one of my favorite cheeses and it's surprisingly hard to find so this was a treat. The bread was warm and perfect for scooping up the creamy, delicate cheese. Extra points to Jeffrey's for offering this as a complimentary starter! After that, we ordered the crispy fried oysters, which were recommended to me by one of the sushi chefs at Sushi by Scratch who mentioned she used to work at Jeffrey's and insisted they were a must-order. They arrived golden and delicate with a light, crisp exterior and that briny, buttery oyster inside. Truly the perfect starter and just the right portion to begin the meal. For our mains, we both opted for the Gulf Red Snapper. The dish arrived beautifully plated with a perfectly seared exterior. The fish was delicate, flaky, and cooked perfectly. On the side we ordered the oak-grilled broccolini, which came out vibrant and slightly charred with a subtle smokiness. It paired well with the snapper and added a nice fresh balance to the meal. They also have an excellent white wine selection, which complemented the seafood perfectly. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and the perfect way to end my Austin trip. The restaurant is not small, but it feels intimate, comfortable, and cozy due to several separated rooms, each decorated with tasteful and interesting artwork. The service is exceedingly attentive with water refilled at every sip. We came for my partner's birthday, and we were greeted by a handwritten card at the table, and each server wishing him a happy birthday. For appetizers, we ordered the hamachi as well as the scallops. The waiter said the hamachi was his favorite dish, but it was the one dish we both might have skipped - the flavors were a bit bland, and no one things stood out. The scallops, even though an appetizer, was a small portion. However, the accompanying melon and sauce were delicious. We also ordered the ribeye along with mushrooms. My partner deemed the steak "exceptional" and the garlic and accompanying mushrooms were also delicious. For dessert, we settled on the Baked Alaska, which I would say, was the other disappointment of the meal. For the price, this was shockingly small - and while the presentation is lovely, the actual flavors were very bland. The amount of care and detail they put into not only making delicious food, but how It's presented on the plate. Our waiter was freaking amazing and of course I'm terrible with names but I hope he's still there next time! We ordered so many different hors d'oeuvres. We almost tried them all. With the truffle deviled eggs and ham & Gruyere Croquettes being my pick. I had the Dean & Peeler (Based in Texas) 8 oz filet and it was perfectly prepared. And let me tell you right now, those seared mushrooms are literally the best mushrooms I've had anywhere. Highly recommend them! A group of friends meet from all over the country to have a milestone celebration birthday dinner in the dark back Napoleon room at Jeffrey's. The room is swank, dimly lit with warm lighting, glass doors exposing the wine cellar, and a beautiful floral arrangement of roses & orchids. Our servers are impeccably dressed in retro vintage styled suits, and I should've worn a nicer outfit but it's Texas, so a button down will have to suffice. The menu has a wide range of options, but what blew me away was the endless steak options from 4 or 5 different farms across the USA. I went with a ribeye from a famous local Texas ranch. We had mind blowing Cesar salads and small bites adorned with caviar to start. I ordered the 1975 martini, and I will have to admit as a dirty martini drinker; this martini was smoother than a hot shave. I will rank this as the best martini I've ever had, anywhere. The martini was so so so good, I had to order another. My ribeye had intense smoke but it mellowed out over time, and it was filled with rich marbled flavor. It was one of the best steaks I've ever had anywhere on the planet. I liked the fun little bbq, bordelaise and chimmichuri sauces. The steak was so beyond a normal grilled cut, and a true flavor sensory experience, so I held off on liberal sauce usage to keep myself fully locked in on every bite dancing across my palate. The mash potatoes were whipped little heavenly fluffy clouds. The sommelier was fantastic to chat with. She answered our silly questions about tannins and we locked in a few bottles of new world California reds and Italian Brunellos. In the end, we finished with some sweet treats, a vanilla sponge cake with a candle, and a lovely round of happy birthday. Last but not least, the staff brought a small lap blanket for my friend since the cellar temp kept the room on the cooler side. To conclude and symbolize the impeccable staff, they framed the dinner menu which we all signed with a silver sharpie for our friend to keep. What an amazing establishment that is an EXPERIENCE in fine dining, yet still maintains a classy yet not snobby Austin charm. Food - I very rarely find restaurants executing in all phases but there was not a single menu item that wasn't perfectly seasoned, and delicious. Nothing felt like it was mediocre. From the appetizers (the greatest deviled eggs) to the entree and sides (the sides were not an afterthought!) everything was amazing. I had the Mishima Ribeye. The 6oz mishima tenderloin filet - this was the best steak hands down I've ever had. I don't eat at top steakhouses often, but this is hands down the best steak by far anywhere. Well worth the $95. Great feature, perfect temperature, Melted in your mouth. Great Smokey flavor. Amazing. Absolutely zero need to use any of their sauces. The 12oz mishima ny strip was good, but honestly for the price point, I'm not sure it's justified. This weighed in at a whopping $120. It was good, but didn't knock my socks off like the tenderloin did. After the filet, I was a bit disappointed here. We also for the tortellini - amazing. So many unique flavors in a bit. I don't know why it's taken me so long to go here, but boy am I glad I finally went. Jeffrey's is tucked away on a quiet and unassuming street. When you walk in, first thing you'll notice is that the restaurant is deceptively large. The bar is beautiful, and the rest of the restaurant will remind you of an old school Italian mobster restaurant (in a good way!) The service was phenomenal. Multiple people came to service our table for water, bread, food, cleaning the table, etc. The food was amazing, but I'm going to give you the secret star of the show: the rack of lamb. First visit to Jeffrey's to celebrate my birthday, and the experience lived up to the great reputation of this 50-year-old Austin institution. Standouts were the popovers, truffled deviled eggs, lobster bisque, steak (of course), and dessert. 5 out of 5 Appetizers -Complimentary popcorn - just okay. -Complimentary popovers with house-made ricotta - I love popovers, and these did not disappoint. -Truffled deviled eggs (2 per order) - a standout! Intensely flavorful and very rich; one per person was more than enough. -Fried frog legs (2 per order - new menu addition) - served on a mousse, deep fried with the bone exposed for easy eating. Tastes similar to fried chicken wings and was a fun, bite-sized app to try. -Lobster bisque - tender Maine lobster chunks topped with rich sherried cream and parsley were served inside a vol-au-vent (a light, hollow French puff pastry). The bisque is poured tableside, which was a nice presentation touch. You can also ask to split this portion for two. Mains -16oz ribeye from Dean & Peeler Farm - delicious, juicy, and nicely fatty. -Pekin duck breast au poivre - pepper-crusted duck breast was cooked rare, and served with roasted broccoli rabe, Le Puy lentils, fennel, and caramelized figs. It was a good balance of sweet, bitter, and rich, fatty flavors. -Side of steak fries - perfectly fried and crispy, served with chimichurri aioli and ketchup. Desserts -Cranberry tartlette. I wanted the baked Alaska with eggnog ice cream and spiced persimmon (flambéed tableside), but due to allergies had to opt for the cranberry tartlette instead - and thankfully it was a standout as well. The perfectly baked tartlette was topped with tart but not sour cranberries and citrus jello pieces made from Buddha hand lemon. The Pinot Noir ice cream genuinely tasted like faint wine, and the light cheese custard accents had a cheesecake-like texture that balanced everything well. -Birthday cake! Our server brought out a complimentary birthday cake ice cream sandwich with a candle - it's a sugar-cookie-style cake enveloping a block of ice cream. There are lots and lots of wine options, with the menu being on an iPad. For apps, we ordered the beef tartare and the scallops. Both were amazing and full of flavor, the tartare coming with just two bites per order. I had never tried tartare before and really enjoyed this take on it. For our main we ordered an 8 oz filet with the onion ring, béarnaise sauce, roasted garlic, and garlic butter. The roasted garlic was the best side and the star of our second course. Was possibly my favorite part of the meal. When you order any steak you get to choose as many steak accompaniments as you want. Can order all of them if you wanted! We also ordered the creamed spinach as a side that was equally as magnificent. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate soufflé and was also brought out a birthday dessert for my friend's birthday. We had a wonderful experience at Jeffrey's! The staff was friendly and accommodating--we had a last-minute addition to our party, and they graciously made it work. We arrived early, so the atmosphere was quiet, and service was prompt and attentive. Serena and her shadow trainee took great care of us, along with at least three others who served food, cleared dishes, wiped the tablecloth, and kept our drinks filled. The highlight for me was the freshly baked popover with honey butter--absolutely delicious! The diver scallop wasn't my favorite, and there were mixed reviews on the crispy oysters. The Caesar salad (with anchovies) was tasty, but we've had better. However, the truffle deviled eggs, ham & gruyere croquettes, and crab beignets were all hits at our table. I've been so excited to come to Jeffrey's, and then when I saw it recently named one of the best steakhouses in America, I was worried my expecations would be too high and I would be disappointed. I am happy to say this is one of the rare occasions I was absolutely blown away by a restaurant experience. It was such a delightful evening. Ambiance, service, food, vibe, drinks. I like the area - one of those charming little Austin areas and pulled up - valet guys were super nice and had a good convo with one about celsius beverages. The restaurant itself - not just a big open space, but separate rooms; tastefully decorated: like you can tell it's a high end experience, but not stuffy and not like over the top steakhouse vibe - like a fantastic date night type restaurant. Our server captain, Harold was great. He was super nice, knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. One of my favorite thing about the menu was the different ranches you can get your steak from - had a good convo with Harold about it. I obviously wanted to make sure I hit the Texas ranch and was okay with a "northwest ranch" once I knew that would also entail Texas and cool places like Montana. But backing up - I'm sure many others have commented on the bread - it was like a flaky croissant like dinner roll - incredible. Appetizers and such were almost impossible to pick because there are so many I want to try but we had to show restraint. After all, this night was really about one thing: CARNE! We went with the scallops and I've never had such a wonderful scallop in my life. I'm not a mushroom guy but the mushrooms in the dish were delicious. Now, on to the steak - we went with the Texas ranch ribeye and the Northwest ranch filet. I think my reaction was something of saying "My god do I love Texas." Only in Texas can you get such an incredible steak with a hint of Texas magic bbq flavoring on the crust! (Also have to say the sauces were really good and fun, and happy they didn't nickel and dime for them. Caveat: obviously they weren't used for the steak). Now, if I have to choose, I would go with the ribeye again over the filet (which was actually cheaper). When you have one bite of the filet and then the ribeye, while both being wonderful..that Texas ribeye was a different level. Good wines by the glass (and a crazy bottle selection). Again, Harold and his staff were great and just elevated the entire evening. Yes, the restaurant is very expensive. But we walked out of there thinking we had such a wonderful evening, were talking about how he wanted to come back and maybe even sit at the bar and just have a drink and some of their apps. From now on, if someone wants a nice experience in Austin, I am recommending Jeffrey's and can't wait to go back and would absolutely love to take friends/family visiting. Fine dining with amazing service. We ordered the hamachi carpaccio, Prime Beef Tenderloin Tartare, crab cake, scallops, tomahawk pork, braised beef ribs, beef mignon, garlic broccoli, steak fries,& crispy Brussel sprouts. The hamachi was fresh and paired really well with the green apples. The appetizer scallop dish was not well balanced and was our least favorite dish. Scallops were cooked well but didn't pair well with the grapefruit and the endive. The complimentary bread was delicious. I wish they put more honey on the ricotta cheese. The garlic broccoli was good. The crispy brussel sprout was our table favorite. Seriously this is the best Brussel sprout I've ever had. Perfectly fried where the Brussel sprouts were not oily and the sauce paired so well! The steak fries were not crispy and the aioli was bland. The tomahawk pork steak was cooked perfectly but it was under seasoned. The beef mignon was perfectly seasoned and melted in your mouth! Sooo good! The braise beef ribs was a bit fatty and was super rich. I wasn't a fan of this dish. Beef tartare was on point. Crab cakes you can see and taste the lumps of crabs which was delicious! Service was definitely and on par with fine dining. Food came out hot. The timing on the food took a little bit. Put reservation was 6:15pm and we needed to leave 8pm. We had all of our appetizers by 7:40pm and got worried we haven't received our entrees yet so we had to flag our waiter down to let him know we had to leave for a show at 8pm. It was a very nice steak house. Was it one of my top 5 steaks i ever ate? No but it was a reallt good meal. One issue is the assumtion of the staff. My best friend and I (both males) were on a guys trip for BBQ and comedy, yes they assumed we were a couple and sat us pretty much on top of each other, i was able to say we just friends and dont need to sit next to each other. Wow everything from food quality to service was phenomenal! I came here to celebrate a birthday and they even brought out a complimentary confetti cake for us! The complimentary bread at the beginning was also so soft, warm and crispy on the outside that we had to ask for a refill. My filet was so tender and juicy. The Japanese wagyu was somewhat fatty and I really enjoyed that as well. Not a big fan of the fried onion. The Brussels sprouts were one of the best I have had! Perfect sweet and savory flavor. Nice romantic ambiance with low lighting inside, perfect for an intimate dinner. Excellent service. Everyone was so kind and attentive. Food has been outstanding every time we have gone to Jeffrey's. It is our go-to for special occasions now and it does not disappoint. This latest visit, I had the duck and it was out of this world. My husband said his steak was the best he had ever had, and he eats a lot of steak. Riley, Austin and Rone are stand-out staff. It is so nice when someone brings you your food and carefully (and happily) explains what each item is. It seems staff other than your waiter are charged with doing this. Those 3 in particular elevated the experience. Really want to compliment the hostesses, as well, who are always welcoming and sweet. A lot of restaurants (particularly Hillstone restaurants, which we do love) have seemingly entitled hostesses. Jeffrey's is lucky to have pleasant hostesses, especially since this is your first impression of the restaurant. Well, the valet is really your first impression and they do a great job, too- very willing to take a photo of you and your family if you ask. Can't wait to return! read more

I've been to Jeffrey's over the years and continue to be impressed by the service here and quality of the food. The restaurant has been renovated over time and in its current form has three separate dining areas (bar area, larger dining area and a separate room area between the two) - bench and chair seating throughout. It is a little cozy with the tables being somewhat close together. Hors D'oeuvres that we enjoyed - Truffled Deviled Eggs - shaved truffles but with truffled egg yolks too - Crab & Sesame Beignets - Tarts of Beef Tartare Caviar service is also excellent here - comes with soft ware blinis and the usual class accoutrement of egg, egg yolk, red onions, chives and creme fraiche. For mains - we enjoyed: Gulf Snapper en Papillote - gulf snapper cooked in parchment with lump crab, thai basil, king trumpet mushrooms, baby turnip & infused carrot broth. Fragrant and delicately balanced flavors 26oz 32 day dry-aged wagyu ribeye from Beeman Ranch. Marbled with the the unctuousness of the dry aging. Served with a few sauces - chimichurri, Jeffrey's steak sauce and some garlic confit and rosemary butter.
