Top notch experience in Austin. Stellar food and excellent service and ambiance. So impressive.

We've been coming to Garrison for nearly four or five years now, basically since the early days when Chef Jakub was just getting started. What originally brought us in? A few extremely convincing photos of truffle tater tots. That alone was enough to lock us in for life. Over the years, we've celebrated milestones here and watched the restaurant evolve. Chef Jakub took a short sabbatical at one point, and while the food was still good, it just wasn't Garrison. Now that he's back, it honestly feels like he returned with even more passion than before. The kitchen is firing on all cylinders again. We recently came in for the Valentine's Day prix fixe, kids in tow, and somehow it worked beautifully. The kids loved every moment, and so did we. Favorites this time around were split between the truffle pasta (dangerously good) and the perfectly cooked rib eye, which was executed flawlessly. And then there's David, somehow always our server, and somehow always amazing. He has an incredible instinct for recommending the perfect balance of drinks, reads the table effortlessly, and isn't shy about making things right if something feels even slightly off. That kind of service is rare and makes the entire experience feel relaxed and confident. Side note: whoever the pastry chef is... you are an absolute menace (said with love). The chocolate cake, paired with ice cream and just the right crunch, has been living rent-free in my head ever since. I'm still thinking about it. Possibly dreaming about it.

We came here because after a long work day we didn't want to leave the hotel. Our server was precious and very attentive. Catered to multiple allergies like a champ! It is way overpriced but that the deal, we knew going in. Steak and fish were perfectly prepared. We ordered several things not pictured, all fine. The desserts were amazing, in my opinion. This is what I was trying to end my day with and they did not disappoint. It's a hotel restaurant. Better than many, not as good as some.

We had dinner at Garrison in the Fairmont Hotel after a full week... we decided we needed a great meal. Garrison delivered! Cool-blue ambiance was almost mesmerizing! Start to finish, the meal was excellent, with one slight observation noted below... JR was our server, and he did a great job. Attentive, but not intrusive. Great job leading us through the menu and especially the specialty cocktail selections. Thanks JR, job well done! Our dining "fantasy come true" experience began with cocktails... the Garrison Dirty Martini and a Belvedere Vodka Shot with caviar! Check out the pics, amazing presentation for both. The martini served in a chilled test tube on ice, with castelvetrano olives on a party stick in the glass. The vodka shot with a balanced mother of pearl spoon full of caviar on the top. Great fun, and delicious too! The meal began with a compressed melon amuse-bouche... light and delicious. We had the crispy octopus as an appetizer, and the picanha (steak) and pan roasted grouper as entrees. Both were terrific! One suggestion for the kitchen is to hold off on adding salt to the steak a second time after it is cut, the original salt in the rub on the outside of the steak is enough (for our palates anyway! We know some prefer more salt!). The gruyere black truffle tater tots are to die for...!!! The ordered a bottle of French Chablis to accompany dinner, and it was delightful. The Garrison wine list is a dizzying walk through all varietals, Old and New Worlds, and lots of other stuff tossed in. Any wine buff can find a bottle here, and generally reasonably priced for a downtown lux hotel. Dessert brought another treat... after much thought, we selected the chocolate passion fruit dessert, which was kind of a deconstructed s'mores with passion fruit sorbet on crushed graham crackers on the side. Small mints and jellies ended the evening... Great experience at Garrison! As the listing suggests, $$$$ means expensive. IMHO, worth every penny. Highly recommend Garrison...

I was a bit confused at first bc I didn't know it was inside the hotel but it was a great find! The service was great and we got complimentary fresh rye bread appetizer and macaroon dessert.

This place is amazing. Everything about it is perfect. The lighting, the cleanliness, my waiter's height. The food is wonderful and the staff are the friendliest. They made us Sangrias when it's not even on the menu, and it was actually good. Most impromptu sangrias are trash.

JR was our server. Attention and on his game. We started with Margaritas (rocks), a Citrus salad and Grilled Oysters. Both were delicious. Regina and I love Oysters. Regina opted for the Texas Redfish and I ordered the Wagyu strip with Hasselback potatoes. Both were some of the best we've ever eaten. Our side was Tater Tots made with Gruyère and Black Truffles. It was one of the best dishes we've ever tasted. Portions were perfectly sized and the presentation was great. For dessert we had the Mexican Soufflé along with a Tawny Port and a decaf latte.

If you're looking for fine dining in Austin, Garrison delivers! Went to Garrison for a special meal, and we have only praise for Garrison! Food: Fantastic! Everything we had was superb. The duck breast was terrific. Had a steak, and it was perfect. The smoked potato pierogi reminded me of eating in Warsaw! The pierogi was a treasure, and we thanked the chef for the perfect execution. The chef is of Polish descent, and he enjoyed talking to him. The GM stopped by our table with a tasty sample of smoked pate. The pate reminded us of eating a perfect piece of smoked sausage on a little bread with a perfect portion of mustard in Vienna. Drinks: Excellent Old Fashioned Service: Our server David was exceptional. Ambiance: classy, modern, engaging Overall cleanliness: exceptional Misc: Garrison actually provides a good value if you're looking for fine dining and exceptional service.

It's not often I find myself giving a restaurant 5 stars, but I can't overlook the service that was received when visiting Garrison for the first time. We've lived in Austin long enough to see the Fairmont go up, and even went to the lobby bar and rooftop bar one time for a wedding after party...over 5 years ago. We had no idea there was a food court tucked in the back, and the Garrison tucked even further back as a pleasant surprise. Felt like we were in Epcot or Vegas! Such a fun vibe. Welcomed by Chris, immediately with positive energy and charm. He set the bar high with close attention to detail as he sat us and introduced us to Ayana, who'd serve us for the night. Such a knowledgeable and quality experience we had with her! As she walked us through the menu, we knew almost immediately what to go with (based on her recommendations and detailed descriptions). We were surprised by an opening treat, on the house. A roasted carrot with green goddess sauce. I forgot to ask about the textured garnish. Followed by the BEST dressed oysters in town. Sheesh. Melted in our mouths and did not want to finish up the last one. So glad Ayana suggested this. Definitely recommend. Even if you think you don't like oysters. The main course was the porterhouse with the side of broccoli and bearnaise sauce (creamy goodness), and the go-to tots. The aerated gruyere on top of the tots with ACTUAL shaved truffle? Chef's kiss. Flavor and texture is needed for a full food experience, and the assignment was understood with each course. Yes, you can expect the filet to melt in your mouth, as well. Personally, we believed this was a better steak than a handful of steakhouses in the area...although, there was a few bites that were a bit too salty. Don't skimp on the Souffle for dessert. Make sure to save room, nothing wrong with bringing home leftover steak. You will not regret the Souffle. By this course, it was clear that the intention of the back of house was to serve foods that would melt in your mouth, making it easy for you to have a mouthful of every sense imaginable. From the oyster sauce, to the aerated gruyere and bernaise, to the vanilla anglaise for the Souffle - you won't be disappointed. Chris, Ayana, Chef Jakub, FOH and BOH - snaps to you all. Thank you for a beautiful and fun experience. We look forward to coming back! (Especially since I forgot to grab a pic of oysters and souffle, which we for sure will get again).

First meal in Austin did not disappoint! Experience was great from start to finish! Hostess offered a hook for my purse upon seating which was thoughtful! Our server, JR, was very warm and attentive! Restaurant was not very busy but still had a nice ambience along with an open kitchen. For starters we had the octopus and crudo. Octopus was my favorite, it was so crispy and loved the green goddess sauce! Split the strip loin along with mushrooms and tater tot's for main course. Elevated tater tot's were recommended from a staff member in the bar and they were so good! Finished with chocolate passion fruit and apple crisp along with complimentary candy from pastry department. Overall great experience and would love to come back!

Just got back with a very happy tummy after celebrating my hubby's birthday! It was our first time dining at Garrison, and we loved it. Brian, our server, was absolutely wonderful--he walked us through the details of how each appetizer and dish was prepared, which made the experience even more special. We started with the snapper crudo and pierogi, both of which were incredible, and finished with the perfectly cooked porterhouse steak as our main course. Highly recommend! Hubby's favorite cocktail of the night was the Antiquity--a creative spin on an Old Fashioned. It was absolutely amazing and the apple crisp was the perfect complement to our meal!

    Is this place kid friendly?

Very if your kid is okay with eating like the adults. No iPad babies here, but they will treat kids with all the respect they treat everyone else.

I looked at the menu online and there are no prices on it? Should I assume that it's a few hundred dollars for one person?

Of course, depends on the occasion and your wine choice. Expect to pay close to $200/person for a very nice meal.

Let me tell you something, my concerns vanished almost as soon as we walked in. My cousin made reservations and we were sat immediately. They were pretty busy however, we had such a lovely time that we shut the place down. We were there for almost four hours! It's easy to get lost in conversation with a good glass of wine (or a bottle + several glasses after that lol), good company, food, and a place with great ambiance. The ambiance was spot on. The decor and lighting are exquisite. I can see why so many people choose Truluck's for a special occasion or date night. It's upscale & magical. Truly a premium dinner destination. All delicious. I had the tomato salad (minus dressing) with black pepper & it was perfect as a summer main. It paired wonderfully with the asparagus & bread. My cousin had the filet mignon cooked at medium. I had a couple of bites and that was one delicious steak. Her daughter had the Ora King Salmon and she absolutely loved it. She said it was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. My boyfriend and my cousin's sister-in-law had the lobster bisque and they were in heaven. They couldn't stop talking about how good it was. Must have been because it had a strong lobster smell (remember, I don't do seafood). My boyfriend loves a good wedge salad so he had one with his soup. He was definitely jiving on its goodness. The sister-in-law had the jumbo lump crab cake and raved about the texture and flavor. As I mentioned earlier, the wine was flowing. However, I opted for still water with orange & lemon slices. We all had still with either citrus or cucumber slices. My boyfriend and I kind of shared a mini-Manhattan. By kind of I mean I had three sips. That was a proper Manhattan. Cheers to the incredible mixologists on staff. We rounded the evening out with two desserts for the table, Baked Alaska (see vids) & Key Lime Pie. Holy sugar were they good! I was pleasantly surprised by this experience and look forward to going back again. It's nice to be able to spend time with family in such a luxurious setting. Impeccable all around.

All right folks this might be a long one. I found this place to be absolutely fantastic. I really…read moreenjoy having the opportunity to go out to different places that offer a tasting menu where I don't have to choose what to eat. Best idea ever and you get introduced to different things that you typically wouldn't maybe try on own. Ended up making a reservation for a Sunday evening and was seated towards the back. Unfortunately, you cannot do the tasting menu at the bar. You have to sit at a table. I will say that's a one downside because as a solo diner, it don't mind sitting at the bar, I would prefer it actually however I wanted the tasting menu so here we are. The dining room area was very modern and very high ceilings in the back area that I was seated in had a beautiful outdoor view, especially if you're facing outward. The kitchen itself you could see as you walked by through to go to the restrooms and then also you were able to see the bar when you first entered the restaurant. Once I was seated, I was able to order the tasting menu and I did add on the wine pairing menu which it's a decent amount. I'm not gonna lie thank goodness I took a ride share. First off they have a martini order sheet. So if you're looking for a specific type of martini, you can check off the boxes and hand it in. Now the thing that shocked me was when the martini cart came running around the corner. This was really fun to see as a gentleman next to me ordered a martini and it's made table side so you really get to see the action right upfront. Now, after the martini card left, my cart came with all of these little wonderful bites to start off with. The gentleman who gave me the rundown of what was on the menu let me know that I needed to eat as he was talking. So some of these items were meant to be eaten right away not to wait for him to finish his spiel. However, that came back because he ended up telling me I was going too fast! The food was amazing, everything that I had, I didn't take a ton of the food pictures cause I really wanted to enjoy the moment, but everything I had was amazing. There was nothing on the menu that I did not like. There was a couple next to me celebrating their anniversary and they ended up having the scallops which were absolutely phenomenal. They ended up telling me or asking me if I was getting scallops, and I wasn't sure because I didn't see it on the menu Thankfully, the next dish that came out next was the scallops and y'all that was absolutely oh my gosh just melted her mouth delicious. The couple watched me....and waited for the reaction. It didn't disappoint. Now the couple was there because they had a gift card which was nice and they were French told them specifically to get the scallops and you could order 10 of them and you totally could you totally could. They're that good. The service itself was phenomenal from start to finish everyone that came and assisted dropping off food or picking up plates bringing me the next round of wines was just absolutely so kind and fun to interact with. I also really enjoyed the variety of wines that were offered because it gave me a few new ones that I hadn't tried before which is always nice. Now it definitely is a bit pricey however I found that the service and the food itself was really amazing and I would totally go back. And yes, I would definitely do the tasting menu again cause it just made it so easy to try so many things on the menu. And I think they do it for all the guests, but there was a nice little lovely delicious pastry that was given to take home with me and it was phenomenal. The next day kind of reminded me of a Kouign-amann pastry, That is definitely get again!

By the time I had made the reservation everyone else seemed to had no availability but they had a couple left so we came here. By the time we had made reservations, only bar seating was available, which I felt we were lucky to even get since other steakhouses and fancy restaurants were completely full. We ended up having to park a couple blocks away across the river to the west but it was free street parking and the restaurant is located next to a bridge crosses that river so it was actually convenient. Once seated at the bar, we were well taken care of and not rushed even though our reservations were technically at their listed closing time. We just ordered a cocktail, a few side dishes and a steak to share. Everything was really tasty and well presented. The steak was pretty good, but I don't feel it was the best in Austin by any means. Overall this is a very nice date night experience, even if you end up just sitting at the bar area like we did.

We somehow snagged nearby street parking and a table for two with no wait despite it being a busy Saturday evening after a UT football game. Make a reservation if you have a large party or are on a tighter schedule. It's a bit loud for those seated in the lobby/entrance area, but totes a vibe. For food, we ordered the blackened catfish, brisket burnt ends quesadillas, and harvest bowl to share. Everything was delicious and served quickly, even with the aforementioned dinner rush. 10/10 would order the same items again. I was so appreciative of the server splitting the entree over two plates without us asking. Did I mention the complimentary popcorn and cornbread? Twas a FEAST. I'm already thinking about the next time we're going back! If not for Moonshine, definitely for the speakeasy downstairs.

I opted just got an Arnold Palmer but the drink menu had some cute cocktails and mocktails, as well as a nice selection of beer and wine. Instead of bread, our server brought us a basket of seasoned popcorn. The popcorn had almost like a Cajun flair, but it wasn't spicy. It reminded me of the Ground Round chain from when I was a little girl. We decided to try the corndog shrimp appetizer. I couldn't decide on an entree because everything looked so good, so I did the Parmesan chicken and my coworker did the steak salad. The shrimp arrived so quickly with four large pieces of shrimp on a stick wrapped in corn dog batter and fried to a golden brown, with a blueberry mustard dipping sauce. The shrimp were delicious and while I didn't get much of the blueberry in the mustard, I enjoyed the sweetness it provided. My Parmesan chicken was a crispy and juicy breaded chicken cutlet with a lemon cream, artichoke hearts, and what appeared to be prosciutto on top. It was served with a side of pesto couscous with grape tomatoes and cucumbers. I wish I had ordered mashed potatoes on the side, because I wanted something to soak up the lemon cream sauce, which was the highlight of the chicken. We also were served 3 mini cornbread muffins with honey butter. My coworker said the salad was just okay, and was a little on the small side. The desserts were definitely a MUST and if you visit Moonshine and don't save room for the Espresso Brownie or the Peanut Butter Pie, you're going to regret it. The brownie was so fudgey and warm and served with ice cream. It was decadent. The peanut butter pie was the biggest slab of PB pie I've ever had with a thick Oreo crust. I wish I had someone with me to share it, it was huge. Overall, if I lived in the area I would definitely be back to try other things.
