I was craving a mango dessert drink and Hui Lau Shan popped up in my head so here I am. I got the Mango & Coconut with Sago and it was a blended drink. Even though mango is out of season, the drink was still really good and refreshing, no sourness at all. My friend got the Mango Swirl and he was alright with it, he said it's just mango smoothie but he wished he added toppings to it. The prices for the drinks are pretty cheap, between $6-7. I loved the Hui Lau Shan in Houston and this location in Austin tasted exactly like it, maybe even better.
Pretty relaxed ambiance. Plenty of seating available and the food comes out in about 7-9 min.
I had heard of this place that makes desserts using mangos. Thought I would check them out and see what the hype is. It's a small side street. There is street parking. I did notice they open at noon. And I had arrived right at 11:56pm so I waited a few minutes until they opened. After looking over the menu I decided on the mango ice cream in a bubble waffle cone. The bubble waffle is made fresh. It's pretty large in size. The mango ice cream is good. It's creamy and tastes like mango. There is also small bite size chunks of mango as well. There is also these clear jelly clumps. They sort of had a coconut flavor. They were chewy and clear, and totally foreign to me. But they were good. I thought it was a nice dessert. And it wasn't that expensive for the amount you get. $8.50 Cute little dinning area with table and chairs. After I had sat down a group of people came in. Another small group came with their laptops. So it is a busy place first thing in the afternoon on a Monday. They do offer free WiFi.
They posted a notice saying that mangos are not in season, but they were still really sweet. I love how creative they got with mango. It's my favorite fruit. This was a delightful little place to get dessert after dinner and a really cute spot to eat in. The only thing is we didn't love the crisps, but everything else was great.
I got mango toppings on coconut jelly base. It was very refreshing and delicious. The mangos are not in seasons so it's not super sweet. They should have seasonal menu instead of relying heavily on mangos
I am a huge mango lover, but unfortunately the mango did not deliver. :( The mango romance had 3 different smaller size desserts and I think it would've been so much better if the mango, which is the main star, was actually ripe. It was so sour and hard, which made me not want to keep eating it. 2/5 The best dessert of all was the mango coconut duo mix, it had black rice at the bottom which reminded me of mango sticky rice, but its own flavor to it. It would've been so much better with good mango. 4/5 Overall, nice location, parking is found on the street or behind the parking garage. Decent seating area, friendly staff! :)
Came here to try some mango Asian dessert and it was pretty good. The dessert depends a lot on whether or not the mango is ripe and sweet. I got the mango triple delight which was mango, coconut and black glutenous rice. The combo together was unexpectedly good though I wish it was a tad sweeter. This is definitely not one of my favorite dessert places but a good option to try on days I want a more fruit based dessert. They're definitely good at what they offer. It's also a nice place you to hang out with friends much like a boba tea shop. In fact, they also offer a lot of mango boba tea like drinks.
My friend and I met at 6:30 pm on a Thursday night and the shop was empty when we went in, but by the time we paid and got our orders people started rolling in. Our deserts came out fast; I tried a mango sago and it was delicious. The serving size for the price is reasonable. Despite the mangos not being in season, they were still sweet and ripe. The shop was bright, airy and clean. There were a variety of tables to sit at, and even an outdoor picnic table. Remember to put in your phone number into the table when you order so you can earn points to their rewards program! I also ordered a black sesame soup before I left and they gave me the option to get it hot or cold. I opted in for a hot one, so although there was a little bit of a wait to warm up the soup, it was well worth the wait! I will be back for when I am craving a sweet treat!
Pretty good light fruity mango desserts. Most of the desserts are mango based so the flavors can change based on the batch or seasons. The mochis this month was more ripe and sweet while last month was a bit more tart. Good spot to take some snacks on the go!
Hui Lau Shan is easily in my top three dessert spots in Austin, and it's almost entirely because of one item: the black rice in coconut pudding. I've never had a dessert like it anywhere else in Austin. It's not overly sweet, but incredibly addictive! It's the main reason I keep coming back. The interior is bright and nice, though the chairs are way too low for the tables. Cleanliness can vary depending on how busy it gets, but service is good and I never wait too long for my order. There really isn't another spot like Hui Lau Shan in Austin. For unique desserts alone, this place is a must-try. 10/10 dessert spot for me!!
This place is a pretty unique spot for ATX since we do not have many mango type dessert spots here. It is a chain from Hong Kong that makes desserts out of a specific type of mango so obviously their signature items are any of the mango desserts! I absolutely love the coconut jelly with black rice. TBH, this is the one item that keeps me coming back. I do enjoy their mango mochi but I think it is a pretty high price point to justify. And we were a little disappointed in their drinks, they have always come out slightly lukewarm. I will always pick to grab a drink at a boba spot over here. There is a decent amount of searing but usually it's a little busy so it can be hard to get a seat. But we often come in and grab stuff to go. There are a few parking spots outside and also a garage where you can get free parking! I like that there is a rewards system too.
The server dropped my drink at the start but it's okay because none spilled and she looked sorry. The drink was really good in the end and I loved it. I also had a durian item I didn't really like it but I could tell if I liked durian I would've enjoyed it a lot.

Love this place ! If u love mango this will be a treat ! Inside super cute large board and hand held of menu lots of options We enjoy the same things when we go haha if it's not broke don't fix it right haha But love the mango yogurt smoothie (We tried the strawberry but it wasn't as tasty as the mango) Mango pudding And the mango drink w/ Pamelo Soooo good I think it's a #1 item there Service is good most the times we been there the sweet girls behind the counter are new but sweet Price is reasonable read more
If you love Mango and you haven't tried Hui Lau Shan- stop everything and go NOW! My wife went to a location in Los Angeles and sent me pictures. It looked incredible! She was so happy, she joked about opening a franchise in Austin. She checked their website and saw Austin had a location. How had we missed it? My wife is NUTS about every and anything Mango. We went around 8:45 pm and just about everything was not available. "Sold out" was the actual wording. Even so the family still had some available choices. My daughter had the mango romance and mango bowls with taro chewy balls and coconut noodles. Will try another time. However, not in Texas but in pasadena, California read more
Mango heaven! Similar to Mango Mango. Came in around 6pm on a Saturday. Plenty of parking, including a free 2-hr parking garage across the parking lot. There's very little space to line up to order when you walk in. They give you a buzzer for when your order is ready. We got A2 (mango romance) and C13 (bubble waffle with mango ice cream) $21 with tip. read more

Stopped by after visiting the restaurant next door. I love mango and they had amazing options for dessert. we got the Jumbo Chewy Ball and Mango pudding. Both were really delicious and smelled great. the only thing is the actual chewing balls were eh. but everything else was amazing and fast service. It was nicely decorated too! read more

My wife and I came here for the first time on a Friday night around 7 PM. The place was poppin'! We had finished eating dinner and we were looking for some dessert in the area and stumbled upon Hui Lau Shan. The restaurant is limited on seating inside, but does have some seating spaces outside. Parking wasn't too much of an issue, it shares a lot with an apartment complex among other businesses that are next to it. We ordered the Mango Chewy Ball and split it. It was the perfect size for two. The dessert was super fresh and definitely made (along with the rest of the menu) for mango-lovers everywhere. I loved the different textures within--the mango, the chewiness of the white ball pieces, and the ice cream/gelato-like scoop in the middle, surrounded by mango juice/syrup. It was really good. Would definitely come back to try more! read more

Came all the way from San Antonio to get some Hui Lau Shan. So thankful can have it in Austin to bring back my Hong Kong childhood memory. The HK mango pancake is a must try. All the desserts and drinks are amazing as always. read more

Been awhile since I've been here. Had a craving for some fresh mango. No idea who the food prep person is but tonight I got this drink and the mango be looking like it's tainted. Take a look. Music is still very loud and hard to have a conversation with anyone unless you yell. read more

Mangoes are my forever favorite fruit growing up in the Philippines and coming here in this gem is little slice of home and heaven. So much selection but since it is my first time, I decided to try the sampler. My Yelpie queens had drinks and will try them next time I visit. Service was quick. I forgot to ask if they have military discount but they do have rewards system I saw by the cash register. Clean even when it's closing time. Hong Kong mango dessert spot that's perfect for mango lovers like me. Especially now that it's mango season so it's the best time to go! They have mango smoothies, bowls, puddings, etc and all sorts of treats from pancakes, egg waffles, and mochi. They even have a new tiramisu which I will need to go back for! Mango mochi and pancakes are great, they're made fresh daily. Parking is available for free in their lot and garage, but it does get packed during peak hours. read more

I been so excited to try this place! First in Houston, then Dallas but when they came to Austin, I finally got the chance to. I came maybe a week after their grand opening on a weekday morning and no wait. I got the mango sago. So good and refreshing! The staff recommended the pomelo mango one and it honestly tasted the same as the mango one but with hints of pomelo pulp bits here and there. The mango coconut jelly is really good but don't leave it in the fridge because the balls loses its soft chewy texture. The mango mochi is my favorite! So addicting! The mango pudding is good too but not the best/amazing. Overall, it's good. A little pricier than other dessert/boba places. I really enjoy the desserts though. It's perfect, not overly sweet. I wouldn't wait an hour + but I would recommend a try if you're nearby. read more

After a delicious Laotian dinner, I was craving the perfect dessert pairing, so I navigated us over to this little Crestview enclave. So many mango desserts for your enjoyment. It seemed that the mango ball desserts were most popular, so we tried that -- it was a mix of interesting textures, from an ice cream to a gelatin ball. But my absolute favorite was the mango pudding, which reminded me of a dessert I used to get as a kid from our local Detroit Cantonese restaurant. I would go back and order this, hands down. We let the new spot hype cool down before we went to try this spot that involved around mango! My husband and I came around 8pm and was very lucky because there wasn't a line to the door until after we ordered. They had an extensive many of mango desserts that it was so hard to pick. Thankfully the workers were really nice and patient and gave us their opinions on what is popular and what they personally like. We went with the mango & coconut juice with crystal jelly and their 6 piece mango mochi. I really liked how fresh the mango mochi was and how ripe the mango was which could definitely alter the taste if it wasn't. The drink itself was . I'm not a slushy fan but after you let the drink settle and mix all the jelly and topping with the mango slush it comes together really nicely and has a more refined smooth texture. I also appreciated how not overly sweet the drink was and you get more of the sweetness from the fruit itself. This spot is a must try and definitely a place to cool off in from the Texas heat! read more
Came here for dessert with friends and we loved it!! I got the mango chewy ball as usual and then realized you could get extra chewy ball which is my favorite part so I got that too!! The server was so friendly and made sure to let me know that the chewy ball contained pork which I really appreciated!! Our desserts came out really fast so not much wait at all. Finally got to try multiple things from HLS. The best times to go are daytime or early evening on weekdays. Lol... This popular place gets slammed on the weekends and after dinner hours. But somehow they have implemented a great system for ordering and waiting. Outdoor seating is rough.. there are a ton of mosquitos at night in this area. Probably a better idea to sit in your car than the patio if you can't get a spot to sit inside. I've ordered the coconut jelly with chewy balls and a mango coconut sago drink. The coconut jelly was not sweet enough, in my opinion but the mangos have been consistently sweet and refreshing! Prices range for each item but pretty reasonable as you aren't going to be making these things for yourself as easily! So happy to have this dessert option in ATX. read more

THE BIG: Hong Kong mango dessert shop in the "new chinatown" district of Austin near the 99 Ranch grocery store. Small space and there's always a line out the door. Parking is available in the lot for 2 hrs. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here around 7pm and the line was already out the door. When we left the shop, the line was even longer! Crazy. Total wait time was around 20 minutes for us. We ordered the Mango chewy ball and the mango mochi balls (comes in 6s). I'm always afraid that the mango sourced isn't ripe and sweet enough but here that wasn't a problem. It was very sweet and had a good portion of mango fruit in everything. The sago balls seemed hand made because of how much glutinous rice flower there were. THE FINAL BAMBOO: The damage done for the mango mochi balls and the mango chewy ball was ~$20. Overall a nice place to unwind for delicious mango desserts. read more
Man do I love Hui Lau Shan, and does the Austin location lives up to the hype. Bottom line if you like mangos in any form you'll like this place. They even have much more options than I recall from other locations I've been to. Atmosphere: Small simple cafe, with counter service. Lines will get long during primetime so be prepared. Food: Of course the real winners. If you like any form of mangos they got it, desserts, tea, puddings. If anything suits your fancy get it, but I recommend the Mango drink with a bit of passion fruit as well as the Mango crystal. Mango mochi and the coconut dessert as honorable mention. Service: Counter top service so nothing really special, they'll call your name when the order is ready. I'm being very bias again for my love for the fruit, but if you enjoy these fruits and this kind of treat, this is a must go to. read more
Came here with some coworkers earlier this week! I ordered the coconut jelly with mango and really enjoyed it! I usually don't like coconut, but the jelly was a fun texture. The fresh mango and jellies on top were very sweet and exciting to eat! I just wish there was some more mango on it because I love mango so much. I have been waiting to try Hui Lau Shan since all the ATX Asian foodie groups have been yelling this mango dessert opening from the rooftops and it's finally happened! For our mango aficionados - don't fret, you have an amazing refreshing summer dessert treat at our disposal for sweet eats and many drink options too. If you're not a mango lover like my toddler, well consider yourself lucky that they do have a strawberry yogurt smoothie option lol. But otherwise, your selection will be quite limited. Although they have been in soft opening because the lines have been out the door, when we went Sunday evening, the inside was packed but the line was tolerable aka inside. We parked in the garage which is complimentary for 2 hours - ordered our selection and quickly received our entire order. Gosh, they were swift for the volume of people they were dealing with and they did not look frazzled handling the crowd. I can't wait to return again and again, my Mango bowl was such a hit especially with the soft mochi balls, and sago balls. I'm still drooling and want to go back - but also realize I need to tone it down to make sure my summer body lasts lol. Yay for yummy refreshing treats in Austin! read more
The wait was 25 minutes out the door. Two customers vehemently warned me against the mango swirl. They said, "It was bland, bitter, fibrous, and had a weird aftertaste." Thanks for the warning! I ordered the passion fruit mango icy, and it was perfectly sweetened. It tasted better than a mangonada because it wasn't too sweet. My husband ordered the mango sago, which was also not too sweet. My only wish is that their menu designated items containing dairy. I think most everything on the menu was dairy free except items containing ice cream. read more
