I made a reservation for (one) a few weeks in advance because I'd heard it has one of the best sunset views in Austin, and I wanted to guarantee a good seat. I can confirm: the view is spectacular... if you can actually see it. Only 80% of the tables have a view worth making a reservation for. When I arrived, they seated me at a two-top right by the host stand, just inside the rooftop area. Technically outside, but functionally indoors. My view consisted mostly of the backs of people's heads, a sliver of sky with direct sun, distant buildings, and one very unfortunate, ugly rooftop. The host said she'd try to move me to a table on the "other end," but explained that some guests were overstaying their reservation time limits and hadn't left yet. Then, with a sliver of sun showing, they moved me to the good side of the bar. I was seated in a low lounge setup with a couch and two chairs in a space that could easily fit 5-6 people, and the view was completely different. From there, I could see the water, skyline, bridge, and the rest of the sunset as the sky changed colors. I didn't stay long, because now I felt rude taking such a large table for one person! What I Ordered Botanical Reset Mocktail -- $12 Chocolate Tahini Mousse -- $11 The mocktail was refreshing, but the mousse was the memorable choice. It was one of the best desserts because it was rich, balanced, and an incredible mix of textures and flavors. During bat season, this bar also has a fantastic view of the Congress Avenue Bridge bats, for some of the tables... This bar was confusing to locate. The elevator didn't list the bar, and the floor I initially got off on (following other rooftop wanderers) looked like it belonged to something else entirely. Here's how to find it: Go to the 6th floor. When you exit the regular elevator, turn right. Walk down the hallway to the end. Turn right again, and go down a couple of stairs. P6 will be straight ahead. There's also a separate elevator somewhere else, apparently, but I took the one from the lobby. Seating tip: If they seat you on the side as you enter P6, you might not get much of a view. If you're on the opposite side (like in the photos on their website), the sunset and bridge views are absolutely worth it. read more

Recently came here for the second time and I had to leave an updated review because this place has consistently been disappointing with their service and food. I am not one to leave a negative review but the only thing this place has going for it, is its view. Service here has been very below average during both of my experiences. Our server was not super nice and we went long periods of time waiting for her to come to our table. Went here with 3 friends after my one friend completed the half marathon! We went to brunch nearby then walked over to P6 for cocktails on the rooftop. We were seated right away near the water and took in the sunshine. It was great! Our server was so sweet. I didn't catch his name, but he was over the top friendly and attentive. We ordered a pitcher of the Sundown Cobbler which my friends raved about. We asked how many drinks were in the pitcher and he said probably 4 drinks each. We couldn't believe that because it was only the price of 4 cocktails total. We got the pitcher and 3 of us each had about 3.5 cocktails. What a deal. Super easy drinking on a hot day. 3 girls split the pitcher and each only paid $22 each. I can't wait to go back here! We were seated near the air conditioning units so it was LOUD, then they sat us at a different table which was near other loud electrical equipment. Oh, well. There were many servers (Sammy and John were the main two) who kept our drinks refilled and brought food as it was ready. We loved the herb za'atar rolls with spicy whipped butter, Greek panzanella salad with yummy pita croutons and feta, roasted carrots, beef tenderloin with roasted potatoes, linguine, and cheese/meat charcuterie. My only complaint is that I had reserved a table for 10 outside, and when I got there it was inside. They do a great job of expressing on the website that they don't take parties larger than 12, but they didn't say anything about not having room for 10 outside. Frankly, if I had known we'd be inside I would've chosen somewhere else. My intention was for cocktails with a view, not cocktails in a room. Additionally, when I tried to contact them 3 days prior via phone (didn't answer , called 4x) and through OpenTable, about whether they had heaters outside (it was 30° out) they didn't respond until 5 minutes before our reservation. Sarah the hostess at the front is racist and rude! Yes we called as we were running late to our reservation and we requested we be sat anywhere outside and she said there was nothing. We get there and there are plenty of empty tables I again requested we be sat anywhere outside. 2 people after us came without reservation who said they didn't mind sitting inside and she said no sit out and gave them an outside table. P6 is worth a visit for the stunning views, especially during sunset. So beautiful and romantic. I like the open, airy feel of the rooftop space and appreciated the decor as well. Service was fast and friendly, they even moved us to a spot with a better view once it became available. We ordered two glasses of wine and the patatas bravas from the happy hour menu. These were all delicious. We didn't find too many options we liked on the main menu - definitely more of a snacks and drinks spot vs. an actual meal in my opinion. Rooftop bars can sometimes be difficult to find but not P6! Located in The Line hotel on S Congress st and E Cesar Chavez in a safe part of town, P6 is a great spot to try at least once. I was lucky as I already had a room there so I was able to "mosey on down" to the bar on my own terms. Please note there is parking under P6, for a fee, under the bar so you're covered there as well. Once I got up to the wait station, having reservations in a choice section, the staff was quick to acknowledge me and with a playful manner have me seated in moments. Yes, I highly recommend making sure you get a table because the view is breath taking, much better than being inside in my opinion. My two top table was against a wall over looking the Colorado river and a good portion of the Congress bridge and street, allowing me to view all the traffic, walkers, bikers who are "enjoying" the hustle and bustle of everyday traffic at 4pm. Moreover, it's very relaxing to see people exercising on the various dirt paths that run adjacent to the river as well as all the water activities such as canoes, kayaks and paddle boarding. Finally, if you're seated around dusk there's a chance to catch "the bats" that come out en masse which can be breathtaking while the sun dips below the horizon. Aside from the extended view, the facility itself is extremely relaxing. Low chairs with cushions snuggle up to coffee tables, high top bar tables, interesting red fabrics hanging from the ceiling, rocking chairs and a slew of other visual and physical comforts challenge those with a bad day to change their tunes. Next, the servers are extremely knowledgeable and willing to walk patrons through the menu. While I didn't partake in dinner, the cocktails are explained thoroughly allowing a well-informed decision on your drinking pleasure. I'm a former chef and my only gripe was I smelled old oil on someone's fried food. Not a show stopper by any means but just a nasal observation that I can't justify by not actually eating the food itself. By the way, I saw a couple snacks patrons ordered and they looked marvelous. Back to the drinks, I had a bourbon and diet so it wasn't exactly eccentric by any means but my girlfriend did have a mixed drink. It looked extravagant with a twirl of orange peel and an olive. She gave a glowing review of it to me and the server as it was his suggestion. Overall, the ambiance is fantastic, second to none. Sometimes a restaurant or bar will rest on what makes them fantastic thus letting other aspects fall by the wayside; not P6. I honestly can't think of anything negative to comment on except pricing a smidge high but all my other expectations were exceeded. I have only the highest praise for the staff, management and all those involved including nature as it was roughly 50 degrees on a crystal clear night; a night that I was able to observe in person and elevated above the chaos at street level. My only regret is not sampling the menu, but alas I had dinner reservations at another destination. P6 is a bucket list destination which can help paint a memory that will last a lifetime. read more

I have tried to go to P6 a couple times now, and succeeded on the second try. The first time I went was on a weeknight, and it turns out there was an event going on so no one could go in. This second time that I went was also on a weeknight, but we were actually able to get seated pretty quickly. They did ask as soon as I arrived whether or not I had a reservation, and it does seem that you should probably try to make one if you want your selection of where to sit. When we came, they only had tables available on the outdoor patio, and even with the screens down to shield against the sun it was pretty warm. That said, as it got darker and the sun went down, it felt much more comfortable outside. The set up is cute out there, they have low couches with coffee tables, as well as high tables with high chairs, and regular tables. The servers checked in pretty frequently, and they are a QR menu based place. Of note, they initially told me we would only have about an hour and 15 minutes, but the place wasn't too that busy by that time, so they asked us if we would rather move inside since folks had tables outside reserved. We did, and thankfully had the chance to sit inside and enjoy the air conditioning, where there are plenty more tables! When I come again I'll definitely make reservation and choose to sit inside. On to the drinks themselves - really, really good! I had one of the most interesting and lovely takes on a martini here. On the cocktail menu, it's called the "P6 martini," and I was concerned it would be too dry, but it actually wasn't at all because it contains cream so it actually had a very creamy taste with some sweetness, but not too much. I also did try the "Hill country gold" which was fairly strong given the bourbon, but had a solid sweetness behind it because of the pear and honeysuckle. The guy I came with had the "ladybird spritz," which had a very interesting and almost bitter aftertaste to it, but was refreshing initially. We both also got happy hour beers, which are just $4. The cocktails unfortunately are full price whether it's happy hour or not, so just be aware only beer and wine or discounted. Happy hour is Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 PM, and the vibes overall are really good! Such a picturesque setting for a drink. It was a tad confusing finding how to get here once in the hotel itself, we were staying at The Line, but we found our way there. We visited p6 on Sunday night. Our nephew really wanted to see the bats. We had a wonderful time. Even though the bats decided to stay in for the night. lol. The rooftop is lovely, the views are incredible, and the staff is so incredibly friendly. Our server, Evan, was terrific! The hostess was so sweet to write down a bat website for our nephew so he could learn more about them and watch videos. The sunset from the roof was truly beautiful, and we even watched a sunset proposal. I'm certain those photos are spectacular. It was so special being there to witness a proposal in such a great spot. I wish them all the best. The food was tasty and light, which hit the spot on such a hot day.
