    Chicago Burger
    Terry J.

I'll admit I went in with pretty low expectations because I assumed this place might be a bit of a hole in the wall--but I was completely wrong. The vibe is actually very cool, with a laid-back atmosphere and lots of locals, which is always a good sign. The process is simple: head to the back to place your order, then wait for them to call your name when it's ready. I decided to try the Chicago Burger with fries, and when it arrived I was genuinely surprised by the size--it was huge. From the first bite, the flavor was fantastic. The burger had perfect seasoning and just the right amount of juiciness, making it a really satisfying meal. There are also good drink options available at the bar, and outdoor seating if you want to enjoy the weather. Overall, this is definitely a place worth visiting if you're in the area.

Great food, nice people, quick service. I think the days of mean people and slow service are behind us! We parked on the street and paid for a couple of hours of street parking. We got the KC burger which had flavorful caramelized onions, the Chicago, which had bacon and cheese, some grilled chicken skewers, and a basket of fries. Everything was good and my family enjoyed it. I'm glad we tried it so now we can cross it off the food bucket list! They have a patio in the back. You place your order and pay at the counter and they call your name for you to come pick it up. When you are done, you are expected to bust your table and put the little plastic baskets in a bin.

Came here on the recommendation from a bartender at one of the local spots for best place to grab a burger and they sent us here. This is not a place that popped up on any Yelp or Google search when we immediately looked for burgers, and I hope that changes!!! Without the local recommendation, we would not have been able to come an experience this rad bar! It was pretty cool atmosphere coming in just as a bar, but if you make your way through the crowd and get close to the back, you find a window with someone at the front to take your order and a few guys cooking up the burgers in the back. Everything is made to order, nothing hanging around under a heat lamp waiting to be called upon, which is a huge plus!! Seeing all the burgers that passed us by while we waited to order, they were HUGE!!! My friend and I decided to split one, while they guys opted each for their own, and then a basket of fries! We asked how the burgers came cooked, and they gave the wonderful answer of medium. But when we saw how huge the burgers were, I was like, there's no way, they will probably be overcooked. Jokes on me!!! THEY WERE COOKED PERFECTLY!!! They were seasoned incredibly, they were so juicy, the bread super soft, but toasted just right. Every bit was just amazing!! The fries too.. I love love love a good fry, and that they did have! They were salted just enough, not too much, not too little, just right!! The drinks at this place were on point too. Great dive bar to come and hang out. Also, there is a small second floor with another bar, and some games that you can play on!

This is an awesome dive bar on dirty Sixth slinging out thick, juicy burgers from a back window. The bar itself only has four beers on tap but a big fridge with lots of cheap beer. The bartender even gave me one for free. The burgers here are thick and delicious. They have a few different options and the two I tried were both good. The Amarillo one was quite spicy! We also got a special sweet potato fries which were fine but I wouldn't get again. I'd like to come back and try some different burgers though!

Excellent, large, thicc, gigantic burgers! (With two Cs) The burgers are the hit to this place. They were larger than i thought it would be. You can easily spilt a burger and fries with two people. Maybe even three for a late meal. All the staff are great. They all seem a bit straight forward but that is the character of the bar. The dunks are also good. There are even a few semi wonky working pool tables upstairs. One of the better spots in the area for food. Don't you dare go for those weird pizza places on 6th st instead of this.

The door person last night was really cool, we got ID'ed quickly and he told us where is what at this bar, since it was my party's first time here. The bartenders and food window people were chill and we had a couple of fun interactions. We got some burgers and drinks. I had The Amarillo Burger, it was really thicc (with two "c"s) and spicy. I loved it. Margarita was nice and strong too. They have a couple of pool tables (take coins) upstairs and a nice patio with a really cool fountain and Aztec decorations. Will definitely be back!

We had gone to a speakeasy previously and was told to come here by there staff for there burgers. And honestly it was a great choice. We journeyed through 6th street to make it here. This is more of a dive bar, that happens to sell food. The bar is for drinks. And there is a window in the back where you line up to order food. And wait for them to call your name. There are some tables on the first floor across from the bar. And the 2nd floor has some tables and a pool table. Timewise I feel like it took a while to wait in line and order, but it passed by eventually. The crowd was lively, not packed, but enough folks where we had a wait a bit to snag a table. Food- decided to split the Chicago burger with my friend and we added bacon. When the burger arrived, it was large and looked dry, very unassuming, and not picturesque. I also noticed it looked more well done then medium well, which also had me concerned in terms of tenderness. But when I tell you looks can be deceiving! The bun was good. The meat is so well seasoned throughout, and it's tender and juicy. I had only planned to eat a quarter of it, but ended up eating the entire half of it. The only notes I have is that I wish it was more cheesy, but I am a cheesehead, so I won't hold that against them. Everyone in our group enjoyed. Definitely recommend!

Um, duh. It's just the best burger in Austin, defending its title every year since 1994. My favorite is the KC, cooked rare, but your mileage may vary. Great staff from the bartenders to the cooks in the back. The Lone Star is cold and the movies on the TV are weird as hell. Perhaps Austin's quintessential dive bar and certainly a local treasure.

Casino El Camino is a dive bar on 6th street that is open until 2 a.m. I think they have one of the best burgers in Austin. The location has a stocked bar with your choice of adult beverages. There is an outdoor patio with an Aztec theme and a skeleton fountain. Upstairs there are several pool tables for entertainment. You place your food order at the back of the bar. They have a variety of burger options. The burgers are 3/4 pound of charbroiled Angus beef in a handmade patty. The meat is seasoned well and cooked medium. I tried the LA burger with romaine lettuce, and spinach with a lemon vinaigrette, tomato, avocado, and smoked shallot aioli. I have also had the Pitts burger and they customized it to my liking with just mushrooms and provolone cheese. The burgers were cooked perfectly and have an amazing flavor. I enjoyed the verde chili fries which is a basket of fries covered with our homemade verde salsa and queso. Overall the bar looks pretty rough, but it is worth the trip for an amazing burger cooked fresh upon order.

I've heard about how great the burgers are at Casino el Camino for years, and I finally got a chance to find out for myself while walking on 6th street past the restaurant with a friend. It's no exaggeration that they're the best burgers in Austin! All burgers are made with 3/4 pound of Angus beef in a handmade patty. I ordered the L.A. Burger. It contains Romaine lettuce and spinach with a lemon vinaigrette, tomato, avocado, band smoked shallot aioli. Wow! The combination of tastes of these ingredients with the Angus beef is incredible! The patty is so thick, I couldn't finish the whole burger at the restaurant. I took half the burger home and had the leftover for lunch the next day. The burger is well worth the $14.75. Everyone gushes over these burgers. I happened to overhear a customer at the counter say to his friend, "These are the best burgers I ever had." The ordering process at the counter is easy, and the order takers are friendly. The wait wasn't too long. The bar atmosphere doesn't take away from the great burgers. In fact, it adds to the experience.

I seek out good burgers. I have a long list of my favorites. I check out the unexpected places and the expected places. I get the cheap ones, and I have bought the expensive ones occasionally. This place took over my top spot. It was magical. It was unexpected. It was worth every penny. My wife and I visited Austin, and our friends who lived there knew I sought out good burgers, and he said he had just the place. After reading this review, the outdoor sign might give you pause. When you walk in, you might second guess me again. The fact that you are ordering from a walk-up window probably will have you re-reading this to make sure you have the right place. Trust me. You are in the right place. Sort of a bonus if you like divey places overall, but then, when you are hungry after a couple of drinks, you will NOT need to leave the premises for your fancy tablecloth place somewhere. You would be insulting your taste buds and stomach if you DID leave. The mac and cheese app was awesome, the fries were tasty, and DEFINITELY ask for the hot sauce from the window. They had a magical hot sauce in the back that made my meal. Know that they have different levels. I got the hottest one that made the guy in the back raise his eyebrows a little. I definitely don't look like a guy who can handle the hottest sauces. The place. TV's for sports. Two pool tables upstairs in a very cool area. Great service by the bartenders. Energetic vibe overall. But, although the place overall is a really cool spot, and maybe you will go for that alone (which would still be a winning choice), the burger will floor you. Bring a microphone so you can drop it after the meal. I highly recommend this place, and see you there (the next time we are in Austin, it will be one of my first stops)...

It was standing room only at the bar, but not overcrowded by any means. There is a dress code, but it's not entirely clear what it is. They ask for your cellphones upon entering and give you a key in exchange, but there doesn't seem to be any security to enforce it if you don't want to give them up. I have no problem with their policy, but I bet a lot of customers do. Interestingly, their little social experiment seemed to have a positive effect, where we ended up talking to strangers and vice versa. The Powder Room may be making America social again.

The bartender claimed I was drunk and cut me off anyway. I was at the bar talking to a girl while waiting to get a drink (the wait was long because the service is very slow, despite the bar not being very busy at all). She was clearly into me, and the bartender kept jumping in trying to talk to her too (instead of doing his job making drinks). He was doing all sorts of things to try and flirt with her and make her laugh: pulling out and showing her buckets of pre mixed cocktails, running and sliding under the bar, etc. She was engaging with both of us , and right in the middle of that, I get cut off out of nowhere. No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. I left and asked the bouncer on my way out if I seemed drunk. This was literally two minutes later. He said no, not at all, and asked me why I would even ask that. I then told him exactly what happened and asked him to let the owner or whoever was in charge know about this extremely unprofessional conduct so they can discipline the bartender. His response was that the bartender has discretion to cut anyone off, and let me know the bartender is supposedly married so he couldn't have been flirting with any of the customers. Well, sounds like his logic is flawed--not only COULD he flirt with his customers, he WAS, and was therefore cheating. I hope his wife finds out. This is perfectly representative of Austin customer service lately and not normal in other places. I was in Tampa for an entire month earlier this year and this would've been unthinkable there. An hour ago it wasn't raining, but now it's pouring. A few months ago, I heard of a newer bar and experience called Equipment Room just right off of South Congress. Music means everything to me. Nothing can express emotions and instill a feeling in 3 minutes like a song can. I live for that. Equipment Room is inherently Japanese in concept. Existing in Japan for over 50 years, listening bars combine high fidelity audio equipment with impressively crafted cocktails and alcohol combining the passion of music in a space to gather with comfortable chairs and a beautiful atmosphere. The concept has expanded westward as all cool things inevitably do, but I would never think a spot would be successful in Austin like it would be in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and so on. As I back my car into a parking spot on South Congress, I grab the umbrella out of my trunk and walk my girlfriend and me to the entrance trying to not get ourselves soaked in the process. This is not the first time we have tried to go to Equipment Room. We tried to get a walk-in table just to see out of morbid curiosity and that was a failure. I booked her and me a table for this night and I was madly looking forward to it. As we got to the small entrance, we were introduced to the hostess who brought us from the stairs into the main underground space and to our seats on the couch in a large wraparound sofa with other parties sitting near us. The music is faint from the entrance, but once you walk through the main walkway, a wave of sound hits your eardrums. You're immediately engrossed into the music like walking into a concert hall or putting a fresh pair of headphones on for the first time. As we sat down, selections from Outkast's Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik were playing through the speakers. Our hostess introduced us to their "User Manual" (their menu) where it contained all the snacks and drinks you could get your grubby hands on. There's more than just drinks and food on the menu. The first page introduces the concept and gives a few house rules. The second page shows all the equipment this so-called room has, from the premium Klipsch speakers, their preamps and amplifiers as well as their turntables and mixers. It's a dream page for music nerds. I want a $15k speaker in my apartment, but those noise complaints would never end. Our waitress came by shortly to give us water and take our order. Their menu is quite expansive, but the main pages we were told to check out were their A-side drinks or the classics and their B-side drinks, which are more experimental. We had to go with experimental for starters because who knows when you'll get to try something similar again. I started with a Goca Dünya while my girlfriend ordered a Deceptacon. The Goca Dünya was a vodka based floral drink with pistachio foam and Amaro Nonino, an Italian herbal liqueur. The Deceptacon was a rum-based cacao drink with a touch of lime and mint. It took a little time for our drinks to come out, clearly, as they are quite intricate. I loved my drink, bluntly. The pistachio foam was a great balance to the herbal flavors at the bottom. My girlfriend and I continued to enjoy each other's company as the music continued. The space we were in was decorated with posters and memorabilia from legendary artists coming through Austin and some general music decor like that purple album from that Prince guy. The DJ-curator that night was on a tear playing incredible soul music holding the bar hostage with a taste of funk. Jimmy Smith came next before transitioning to a few tracks from Bobbie Gentry. The last albums he pulled out were Steely Dan's Aja (a stone cold classic) and Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life (a top 10 album of all time). Not only was he playing classics like Isn't She Lovely, but he threw down some deeper cuts like Black Man and Contusion. Incredible. We both got another drink with my girlfriend getting their A-Side Espresso Martini while I got the Brown Sugar from their B-Sides. It was a seaweed and mushroom infused whiskey with a few more bells and whistles and it was super unique. Quite a bit of their menu is Japanese-inspired in homage to the originators of listening bars. This includes Japanese beer, sake, and Japanese-inspired food and beverages on their menu. Very cool. The worst part of the night came when our hour and 45 minute reservation came to a close. I could've stayed there for another 3 hours and never grown tired, but with how popular this space has become, they gotta kick you out at some point. This is an experience you have to have. It's worth it. I'll be strolling back in soon enough because there is nothing like this in Austin and it's truly a special space. RIYL: Actively listening to music.

I visited The Equipment Room tonight to celebrate my wife's birthday, and unfortunately our…read moreexperience at the entrance was disappointing. When we walked in, the hostess asked us to return to the first room because she was not at the seating area. She then told us there was no available seating, which was surprising since I had just been inside and saw multiple open seats, including two that had just been vacated. The hostess--her name sounded like Constanza--explained that the room was full because of Memorial Day weekend. When I said we didn't mind waiting since it was only midnight, she then stated they would be closing soon at 1 a.m., even though the posted closing time is 2 a.m. These explanations contradicted each other, and her tone came across as dismissive. She avoided eye contact, offered no real assistance, and ultimately suggested we check for seats ourselves, which felt unwelcoming and unprofessional. For a venue with such a strong reputation, especially on a special occasion, the interaction fell far below expectations. I hope the team can ensure more consistent and courteous service at the host stand moving forward.
