Yum! My favorite type of food so my bestie booked this in advance for us to have lunch here and I'm so glad she did! They had a wait even at like 1-2pm and we had a lovely patio seat which was cool with the fans and mist machines despite the 110 degree August heat. Beautiful decor and ambiance here and right in a bustling shopping area on South Congress so there is loads to see and do while you're here. We tried the Eggplant Dip and the Poblano Hummus. Before visiting Austin my girlfriends and I made a reservation here. We flew in and the day of our scheduled dinner they called and said they had to close for the night. Luckily the hostess was super kind and made us a reservation for the following day which was booked when we originally made the reservation. Unfortunately we had to sit outside but it's okay. It was just hot. The ambiance was really nice and picture perfect. I didn't like the drink menu but the food was fantastic. We ordered the classic hummus and Brussels sprouts to share and then I had the grilled chicken kebab as my entree. Everything was stellar. The chicken was so flavorful and cooked perfectly, so juicy!! And the rice was lemony it was so good. The crab cakes were a hit as well I tried them because my friend got them as her entree and they were so tasty. The food, vibes, and service at Aba were all fantastic. From the drinks to desserts, everything was perfect. I really enjoyed Oasis G & T and Panna Cotta for dessert. The only issue was the glassware. The water glasses had a strong, stale odor, as if they were wiped with a damp, unwashed towel. It's a minor detail, but not something you expect from a premium fine dining spot. Aside from that, everything was great. Updating my review after giving Aba a second chance about nine months later. I'm honestly really glad I came back. This time we went in knowing exactly what we liked from our first visit and focused on sharing appetizers, which ended up being the move. We ordered several dishes for the table and left completely full and happy. The whipped feta is still a must-order and every bit as good as I remembered. The Greek village salad was fresh and delicious, and the hummus was also great. The biggest surprise for me was the falafel. As an Arab, I'm usually pretty skeptical when restaurants outside of Middle Eastern spots serve falafel because it rarely lives up to expectations. Aba absolutely nailed it. It was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and one of my favorite dishes of the meal. We sat outside this time, which made for a really nice atmosphere. The service was also a huge improvement from my first experience. Even though the restaurant was busy, our waitress was incredibly kind, attentive, and made us feel well taken care of throughout the meal. Here are some thoughts: -We all like Mediterranean food, and we were very impressed with Aba! -We ordered hummus and whipped feta for our appetizer. The hummus was the only thing on the table I didn't try. My little son and I came for dinner here on Monday night. Firstly I will say parking is a bit hard to come here so I pre booked a spot in Vincent lot just so I didnt have to deal with circling around and it was only a 5 min walk away The restaurant as you approach it is so cozy and definitely gives you that ethereal lush feel The restaurant was buzzing and full on a Monday night. Everything came out really quickly. The falafel was absolutely delicious. The whipped feta was a hit with my son. The kefta was a little disappointing. A little bland and dry. I ordered the pannacotta my son the chocolate chocolate cake. I absolutely loved mine with the sorbet on top. My son loved his cake. Atmosphere wise the restaurant is beautiful and cozy and grand but the only complaint would be the music was too loud and it was hard to hold a conversation. Can i give this six stars?! Aba is incredible! The atmosphere alone is worth the visit. The lush plants, ambient lighting, beautiful patio seating, and garage doors that open between the bar and patio create a space that feels both vibrant and relaxing. It feels like a perfect place to hang out and stay a while. And then there's the food. The whipped feta appetizer was incredible, and they thoughtfully accommodated my gluten-free request with lavosh-style crackers. The pistachio-crusted halibut was one of the best meals I've ever eaten- perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. And the date cake for dessert was the perfect ending: rich, balanced, and just the right amount of sweet. The service was friendly, attentive, and outstanding from start to finish. The chicken kabob wasn't as juicy as I wanted. I would recommend not squeezing too much lime on the rice as that can make it taste way too sour and ruin the flavor. I booked this spot roughly 1 month in advanced, and I was only able to snag a 7:15pm reservation (even as a solo diner). Music Lane is a beautiful area with corridors bustling with fresh air, which greatly contrasts the area not too far south of it. Aba lies within these corridors, so I was completely gobsmacked to see the size of the establishment and its number of seating. There are outdoor tables, a dedicated bar section, a decently large interior, and patio and sofa seats for the people waiting. Even then, the place was completely packed, so getting a reservation is an absolute must. Not only are the prices completely reasonable, the food itself had everything that I was looking for: a delicious spread starter, a balanced fiber dish, and an entree with intentional flavors and texture. The Short Rib Hummus is a must get! It is incredibly filling and completely worth the price. The short rib was a nice meat protein since I opted for a seafood main, and the pita bread that it came with was lightly seasoned and was as fluffy as it could possibly be. I could not eat much of my Brussel Sprouts because it was also very large. However it was not too oily or drenched, and each bite had a perfect light crunch, which is the standard for Fried Brussels Sprouts. Top it all off, the Grilled Branzino was the finisher to my savory dishes. The grill gave the fish a roasted flavor, which was complimented by the sweetness from the corn purée. The various greens, roasted tomatoes, and corn pieces themselves added bites of textures and secondary bursts of flavor. I can see why it took a month in advanced to book a decent time at Aba Austin. The atmosphere was so perfect because the air flows through all the doors and windows, allowing the diners to enjoy fresh oxygen. Started the evening with a few cocktails at the outside bar while we waited for our reservation. These cocktails are the same as the menu ones inside. Unfortunately these cocktails aren't a great flavor profile pairing. I'd almost recommended the restaurant revisit the creations to inspire new drinks. After being sat outside in the aesthetic but hot patio section we were promptly greeted, we started with a few different cocktails from the menu and confirmed my prior statement. For shareable, we started with the whipped feta and the short rib hummus. The feta was good and very rich, as was the hummus of the spread, but the meat on the hummus was tough and rigid in texture. Next we got the crispy potato's and the chicken kebab. The potatoes are a miss and would avoid. Hard, thick, and lacking any type of flavor. The chicken on the other hand was juicy and perfectly seasoned. We had ordered another round of classic non menu cocktails prior to the main dish coming out and waited probably 15-20mins for this drink, thankfully the waitress was nice enough to comp some of them. We finished the meal with another round of cocktails and the date cake which is a must! Soft and gooey with a crust of caramelized sugar on top paired which a dollop of whip cream! Easily one of my favorite restaurants in the city, Aba transported us to a different world from everything to the ambience, the lighting, the service, the workers and the food! Once we were dropped off we went down this walkway and noticed a bar area to the right. I thought that was a separate bar area but turned out to be a section of the restaurant. I looked to my left and there was a path with people sitting down the path. Basically this place was huge and turns out there are three separate bar areas you can find seating in and there are two to three huge main dinning areas inside & out. The whole vibe is like a jungle/forest vibe and the low lighting was perfect. The ONLY thing that could have made it perfect was a better selection of music. I would have never left. We ended up finding two seats at one of the bars in the patio area and our waitress was amazing! She gave us advice on a few items and even gave us one of her favorite desserts on the house. We decided to start out with the brisket hummus (amazing!), the jumbo crab cakes ( so good), and the grilled salmon (cooked to perfection). I also got a Mediterranean Mule and had her add passion fruit. Lastly, we had a date cake that was out of this world! I couldn't even explain it but it did have some sort of crème brûlée taste to it and I LOVE crème brûlée. Our waitress made the experience that much better, conversing with us and just having a good time. I wish I remembered her name to give her a huge shout out but she does work in the bar area. As mentioned, the dessert she let us try was the frozen yogurt drizzled with honey (it was the least favorite out of everything). I absolutely love the vibe of this place--it's definitely a high-end Mediterranean restaurant, perfect for special occasions. For drinks, I ordered a Tender Robot Hazy IPA, while my husband went with the Verdant Mai Tai. I was a bit disappointed to learn they only serve canned beer and don't offer draft options, as I personally prefer draft beer and am not a big fan of cocktails, which tend to be too sweet for my taste. For the main course, I had the Heirloom Chicken Thighs, and my husband ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes. Both dishes were cooked to perfection--flavorful, well-seasoned, and the meat was incredibly tender. That said, the portion sizes felt a bit small considering the price point. We ended the meal with the Sticky Date Cake, and it was hands down the best I've ever had--rich, perfectly balanced, and absolutely delicious. Overall, we had a great experience. But this most recent time we came for lunch left us with a bit of a sour taste in our mouth. Everything started out strong, the waitress was super engaging, and attentive. Food was really tasty (as always), and came out quickly. As we started to get to the middle and end of our meal thats when things started to go down hill. The waitress didn't come by to refill our waters, I had to ask the staff. And then we were sitting around for about 30 minutes to ask for boxes, and even the check. And they offerred a free frozen treat with a dandle :) The spot is so beautiful and immersive on South Congress, tucked into a walkway between buildings. Unfortunately, Aba was a huge disappointment for us. This was also a birthday celebration, which we noted in our reservation, but the restaurant did absolutely nothing to acknowledge it. I had to increase our reservation by one person, and I was told that for a party of five we would need to sit outside. I was assured it would be comfortable because they have misters and fans, so I agreed. It was absolutely sweltering. The outdoor area was packed with guests while there appeared to be plenty of room inside. When I asked if we could please be moved indoors because of the heat, my request was essentially ignored. That alone really set the tone for the experience. Maybe I'm spoiled living in California and being used to some phenomenal restaurants, but the food here was incredibly underwhelming. I ordered the steak frites, and it was honestly shocking. The steak was extremely overcooked and so small that it amounted to maybe four bites. The fries were also so overdone that they were inedible. The Brussels sprouts were the only thing I somewhat enjoyed, and even some of those were burnt. What I really couldn't get past, though, was the service. Food can occasionally miss the mark, but when you combine subpar food with inattentive service, an uncomfortable dining environment, and no acknowledgment of a birthday celebration, there really isn't much to redeem the experience. I will say the spacing of our food was a little odd...our sides (Brussels and crispy potatoes) came out probably 10 mins before our mains, so we couldn't enjoy all of it together.
