We came here for a happy hour (3:30-6:30 T-Fr) as they have $5 off all beginnings and discounted oysters. Here's what we ordered: 1. New Orleans BBQ Shrimp - tasty and a pretty big portion with freshly grilled bread 2. Steamed Mussels - another bigger portion app that had a really nice white wine butter sauce 3. Grilled Oysters - these were excellent and I could've ordered many more portions 4. Clam Chowda - bowl was a big portion and super filling so could've probably just done the cup. 5. Shrimp & Grits - this was just ok in my opinion. We've had way better 6. Lastly ended with the creme brulee which was good but the topping of white powdered chocolate (?) and sorbet was such a weird pairing and did not go well. Overall this would be 3.5 stars. Nothing here that I'd crave and want to come back for but not a bad meal either. Convenient location next to so many offices and Westlake, and plenty of parking. read more

My sister's a pescatarian now so we have less options for going out to eat dinner. This neighborhood spot we always drive by, so it was to cool to finally try it. We went on a rainy Friday at the tail end of happy hour. The restaurant wasn't that busy but there were folks in all serving sections. We got seated next to a large family but they left soon after we arrived. We had the smoked fish dip and cajun butter shrimp to share. Both were okay, I almost preferred the dip & chips because there weren't enough shrimp. I had the scallop risotto, tried a bite of the red fish daily special, and had a couple bites of the shrimp and grits. I didn't feel like any dish was spectacular, but I wasn't disappointed either. Service was outstanding and the atmosphere was great. But, the food was meh . Ordered 2 dozen oysters and each one of them had pieces of shell in them. Whoever is shelling them needs more training. We went with a group on an early Friday night and were a bit nervous since we were with a stroller/infant but they were very accommodating and we saw multiple other families. This place is really nice when you walk in they greet you and are very helpful. During lunchtime and dinner it can be a rush hour. If you could make a reservation go for it I'm not sure if you can. I haven't looked into that. We went because they were hosting a teacher appreciation Day and we're giving us teachers free meals. I have been hearing in the past for their seafood food boils and they're delicious as well. I chose the blackened chicken Caesar salad salad without anchovies and I have to say it was delicious. The chicken was so fresh and perfectly grilled and the dressing was just very nice. My friend got the crispy shrimp bowl and I tried it and it was delicious. I literally just mixed it all and it was phenomenal. I also wanted to try some of their oysters. Those were not on the menu for teachers, but they were very well priced, and I have to say they were delicious. They were not fishy. They were not grainy. They were just perfectly silky and a little sweet. Overall great place they were so sweet. They kept thinking us for being teachers. They even gave us a cute little apple. Another exceptionally fantastic evening at Salt Trader's. Our server Matthias had some incredible suggestions. The oyster selection was phenomenal, but the highlight this evening was the Hokkaido scallops over a fall squash risotto. It's the most expensive dish on the menu, but honestly worth more. Whoever and however they are sourcing these scallops: they are among the freshest and highest quality I've ever been served anywhere... The pastry chef is at it again with this deconstructed pumpkin cake with a no-bake pumpkin cheese cake upper. Topped with toasted pumpkin seed crumble and salt caramel drizzle: pure bliss. Pair this meal with a Chopin martini or a Spanish white and you're in for a sublime experience. We will be frequenting Salt Trader's again since the Oyster season is in full swing. I came to Salt Traders for the happy hour from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m.. Cocktails are $1 off and Beginnings are $5 off during happy hour. The restaurant vibe is very coastal and beqchy. I started off with the Cantarito cocktail with tequila, fresh citrus juices, and grapefruit soda, typically served in a clay cup called a jarrito de barro or cántaro. I ordered the steamed mussels with andouille, garlic, charred tomato, white wine, herb butter, grilled bread and the grilled oysters that I customized with Parmesan herb garlic butter. The oysters were a good size and had a great texture and taste. I also ordered a frozen grapefruit margarita with Monte Alban 100% Agave Silver, Paula's Grapefruit, lime, grapefruit, citrus salt and the crab fried rice. Other dishes I enjoy here include the Hokkaido Scallop Risotto with basil parmesan risotto, cherry tomato, arugula, roasted pepper crema, crispy garlic, pecorino and the Shrimp Snobb salad with greens, sweet corn, egg, avocado, bacon, tomato,sherry mustard vinaigrette. My friend and I chose to eat at Salt Traders for two reasons: it was close to Zilker Park, which was having a "Bands in Bloom" concert, and they have a Happy Hour from 4-6pm, with $5 off the "Beginnings" menu. I chose the Steamed Mussels dish with fennel, garlic, charred tomatoes and grilled bread. It was $13, but with the Happy Hour discount, it was only $8....well worth it! The mussels were steamed to perfection, served in a delicious sauce that begged to be sopped up with the grilled bread. I don't normally eat bread, but I couldn't resist. I questioned the slightly burnt bread, but it worked and was worth the diversion from my low-carb gluten-free diet. The server was very pleasant and friendly, always smiling when he came over to the table, and patient with us while we decided from the many menu options. Once we finally ordered, the food came fast. Salt Traders might have one of the best happy hour deals around--$1 oysters, discounted appetizers, and solid drinks every day, including weekends. We came on a holiday Monday just before 3 PM, which meant we could catch both the lunch menu and the start of happy hour. If you're into seafood, this place is a gem. Environment: Bright, open, and coastal-chic without being pretentious. The high ceilings, warm wood tones, and ocean-inspired art make the space feel breezy and relaxed. There's a big central bar with glowing amber lights above it, giving off a soft warmth. Service: The staff were kind and upbeat, but once happy hour got busy, things started slipping a bit--our oysters took about 25 minutes to arrive, and our check had to be corrected. That said, everyone stayed friendly, and they made the fixes without a fuss. Now for the food--fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly refined for a place this relaxed: Raw Oysters (happy hour: $1 each) Chilled, clean, and briny--some of the freshest oysters I've had recently and a total steal at a buck apiece. Steamed Mussels (happy hour: $10) Served in a rich charred tomato and white wine broth that we mopped up entirely with the crusty toast. Portion was generous enough to share. Seafood Gumbo (lunch) Deep, dark roux with layers of flavor and just the right amount of heat; small bowl, big flavor. Shrimp Scampi Linguine (lunch-only) Wild Gulf shrimp tossed in lemon white wine butter with garlic-parsley linguine--light, tangy, and perfectly cooked. Would I return? Without a doubt. We dined at Salt Traders Zilker for a retirement party recently and it did not disappoint. Our server was very attentive and friendly. There are plenty of tables and space parking just adequate. The food is always top-notch and they have a happy hour that lasts until 6:30p so we caught the last moments of that. They have lots of gluten free options which was great for our group since one of our party members was gf. We started with the fish dip which is so delicious and some bubbly to celebrate the retirement. Some stand outs were the Poblano Shrimp enchiladas- so good and the wood-fired salmon! My family and I decided to go to Salt Traders for a Christmas Eve Eve Lunch. My husband made a reservation online about a week in advance. We drove up, parked easily, and went in. The hostess kindly greeted us and my husband told her that we had a reservation. We were seated quickly. The inside of the restaurant is bright and big with a large bar area, tables and chairs, and booths. Once seated we were greeted by a kind waiter that gave us our menus and asked if we wanted anything to drink. We ordered waters. After getting our waters he took our order. For starters my husband ordered us some bread and butter, and some hush puppies. We were also given a little sampler of salmon and two chips. For my main dish I ordered the steak and fries as my main dish. The bread and butter was good. The bread was nice and thick and the butter gave it a little flavor. The slices of pickles were yummy as they had a sweet flavor. The hush puppies were also good. I don't usually eat them but tried one. They have a crispy exterior and a soft interior. As for the salmon sampler I didn't know what it was and just wanted to try it based on what it looked like and it was delicious. I'm not a fan of seafood and wouldn't have tried it if I knew it was Salmon but I am glad I tried it. The steak and frites was very tasty. The steak itself was cooked medium perfectly and the poblano cream on top of it was very flavorful. The fries also had some flavor but I mixed them with the poblano cream for extra flavor. Overall it was a really good experience. It was easy to make a reservation, everyone was friendly, and the food was delicious. I'd definitely return to try something different next time. read more

As you can see the middle of the restaurant as a sushi and oyster bar for everybody that likes to partake in the raw food. They also have raw scallops as well! They even have a kid friendly menu and I was able to find something to eat as a vegan. service was really great and the place itself has a great ambience. Seafood restaurants are always not a first choice for us due to Suzie's shellfish allergies. We were first introduced to Salt Traders by a colleague last fall and we have found the restaurant quite appealing since then. Suzie has found a great stable here in their Fish Dip. I also enjoy their Hush Puppies provided with a nice accompanied sauce to dip them in. They have mostly pacific coast oysters, which are my personal favorite. In fact, they have a series of good bar bite's and beginnings... Pot Stickers? Yeah, they do have these. As well as the ubiquitous standby Calamari. The other night we came in an actually stayed for like 4 hrs! We were catching up with friends and had a whole range of different bites and entrees. I selected the Basil Risotto and a fish sammy. The Risotto is a large side actually and it went down very well along with a nicely prepared and seasoned sammy. Everyone one else enjoyed their entree's as well from the Wood Fired Salmon to Birria Tacos. We did have an great server by the name of Kaarel last time in. Service was pretty quick and on point, even at the bar when we enjoy hanging with Maranda. The vibe is chill without super loud music and a great deal of space to sit at communal tables or to hit up a bar stool. Booths, tables galore dotted around the restaurant without being crowded. One can expect this from Jack Allen and all his restaurants. They usually do deliver solid dining/bar experiences that you will have you back in sooner than later. read more

The crab cake had good flavor but was very tender, I usually prefer mine a little crispier. The oysters were crispy on the outside and soft inside, which worked okay. For mains, I had the bacon mac, which was rich and flavorful. The clam chowder was tasty too, but very thick and chunky- I prefer mine a little lighter. My friend had the lobster and shrimp roll with fries, and the filling was cold, which we weren't sure was intentional. We also had a key lime pie for dessert, it was really good. Had lunch at Salt Traders Coastal Cooking where it was my first time here. The place was busy and met my party in the back room. It's basically a seafood restaurant where first had to try a cup of Clam Chowda. The chowder had great flavor and very delicious. I then ordered the Fish Sandwich with the fish blackened. the best place i have had seafood at in austin. first, the stafff was incredible. i hate coming into restaurants close to close, and we came about 45 minutes before (leaving about 10 after close - i felt so awful) but you wouldn't have known it from the incredible service we received. we had the crab cake as a starter with bread, and every bite of it was incredible. i had the tuna and street noodles, and it was genuinely the best grilled tuna i have ever had. the flavor and texture was so good. my friend had the scallops, and although i am not a scallop person, these were seasoned and cooked perfectly. drinks were great and not too pricey. genuinely nothing bad - i just didn't really like the super bright environment. felt like hospital lighting lol, and it was a bit cold. 4.5/5 stars - such a gem. read more
