First time here and this was restaurant number three on my restaurant week tour of Austin 2026. Initially had a reservation for a table, but decided to sit at the bar, which was a much better decision as I got to interact with the bartenders and also the other patrons at the bar. Restaurant week consisted of three courses for $50 at this restaurant. Started with the crab hush puppy, which was actually three small hush puppies and they were absolutely phenomenal. Second main course was the short rib stroganoff, and y'all had to hold back and not eat all of this because I knew that I wouldn't be able to take the dessert home however plate licking delicious. The beef was very tender. The sauce was so rich coated the noodles nicely and it just literally melted in your mouth Last, but not least had to get the red velvet bread, pudding for dessert and y'all this did not disappoint in any way shape or form. I really enjoyed that the top of the bread pudding was crisp and it had a nice crunch to it when you get into it, the melted vanilla ice cream just added to the overall richness and mixed very well with the bread pudding. The gentleman that was next to me ended up saying that he had a work event that was hosted the night prior and everyone raved about the food so I was not shocked at how delicious everything came out. I would totally go back to try other items on the menu as this definitely left a great impression. Upon entering, the restaurant is laid out very well. The host stand and they have the main bar, but they also have a raw bar that you can sit out to watch as they shuck the oysters to bring them out to the tables as this is part of the Westin hotel. It sits right off of the main lobby area. Restrooms are around the corner simple nothing fancy about it. Definitely would recommend for a restaurant week and again that short rib delicious I'd go back just for that alone and if they happen to have that red velvet dessert on the menu again sold no questions asked. read more

Dinner at Skipjack consistently hits the spot. My husband and I have returned several times to try different dishes, and we've generally had a satisfying experience. The clam chowder is a little different from the traditional version since it's thinner and less creamy, but it's still comforting, with a slightly smoky, bacon-forward flavour that my husband really enjoys. I also took a chance on the short rib stroganoff, and it ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. It was rich, hearty, and surprisingly addictive--I finished it much faster than expected. The blackened redfish was just okay. The fish itself was cooked well, but I personally didn't enjoy the sweeter flavour profile or the texture of the quinoa it was served over. Their oysters are usually fresh, though, and a glass of wine always pairs nicely with the meal. Overall, Skipjack is a reliable option for seafood and comforting dishes, even if not every item is a standout. Alright, you know what? 5 STARS. HELL YEAH. I've been to Skipjack more times than I can count, and it's one of those places I find myself craving often. Unfortunately, out of all the items I've tried, the Lobster Rolls isn't my favorite, but that's also because I lived in Maine. However, every other appetizer more than makes up for it. I can't get enough of this place and I can't stop showing my friends this gem. Their brunch happy hour seemed solid, advertising as "$1.50 oysters and bottomless mimosas for $20". However, upon checkout after 2 dozen oysters, they stated the $1.50 oysters were ONLY for Gulf Coast oysters...SO, instead of spending $36... I spent $96 on oysters alone... One thing I will never skip? The mimosas. They have tons of flavors, but the watermelon mimosa is my go-to-- refreshing, delightful and so easy to drink. read more

Such a great experience! I went here for happy hour with my wife. All of the food was delicious and the prices were fantastic. We ordered the Kennebec Chips & Salmon Dip, Brush Creek Ranch Wagyu Sliders, Crab Hush Puppies, Red Velvet Bread Pudding and Oysters. We also ordered some Martinis to drink. During happy hour, Oysters are $3, Martinis are $5, sliders are $5 and the Crab Hush Puppies and Kennebec Chips & Salmon Dip are $8 each. Personally, my favorite dishes were the Crab Hush Puppies and the Kennebec Chips & Salmon Dip. I also enjoyed the Red Velvet Bread Pudding for dessert. After a long day, I wanted to come in and relax, catch some of the playoff games from the NBA. I came here on a Tuesday night, and it was decently busy. There were people at the bar, at the oyster bar, and sitting in their dining area. I was immediately seated and after 10 minutes gone by, I realized I never placed an order and no one bothered to check on me. I tried to get several server's attention, but they were all preoccupied, I guess. After going to the oyster bar to ask if they could send someone to me, they took my order. I ordered half a dozen oysters, a burger and fries, and 2 drinks to try. I tried to give them slack, maybe it was just a busy day or an off night, but when I saw the oyster plate I ordered being neglected and staff were next to it, chatting away, my irritation started to spike again. I politely called to them asking if they could check on my order, then the staff became extremely flustered with my request. The only saving grace for this restaurant is that the food and drinks were good. The selection of oysters they had were delicious and varied from locations from the east coast. The burger was a bit dry, but overall good when I added some ketchup to it. The drinks were great. Ringing up my tab was a little difficult for the staff as well. I wanted to split the order and keep drinks on a separate tab, but they ended up splitting the total into 3 different checks, when I asked for two. Overall: 4.3/5 [dine in] Happy hour runs all day on Mondays which is a great deal. Just know that they require a credit card to make a reservation and automatically add 20% gratuity for large groups. Our server Nathan was phenomenal. They also had a promotion where you sign up for their newsletter and get half a dozen oysters for free, and we got to try one of each which was a nice touch. One small hiccup was that my friend received a cup of chowder instead of the bowl she ordered. She didn't notice until our other friend's bowl arrived and it was noticeably bigger. They apologized and brought her a bowl right away which we appreciated. Sound and Spirit Margarita ($8 MM): This was the only margarita half off for the month of May. I thought it was pretty good and I really liked the blood orange foam. My husband got a glass of Averaen Pinot Noir ($8 HH) and the Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc ($7.50 HH). Both were okay but honestly you can find better wine at Costco for less. Wagyu Slider ($5 HH per slider): A basic slider but great as a starter. The wagyu patty was juicy and flavorful. I came here for a friend's birthday and honestly we had such a good time. We were a group of 12 and our server was super nice, attentive and handled our big table like a pro. The place is really nice, it's inside at The Westin by the lobby. Food was sooo good. I got the lobster avocado toast and loved it. I also ordered the crab hush puppies and they were really good too, crispy and soft in the inside. The oysters were definitely the highlight. At $1 each, they're 100% worth it. Perfect to share and they tasted fresh. Met a few friends here this past weekend and had a fun time. The food was delicious as were the drinks. We were seated at a booth and shared several items. I was lucky to find street parking not too far away. It was my first time here but when I walked in, it looked familiar and I realized I had been at this restaurant when it was another one. They had the World Cup game on the TV near the bar so you could hear it but not see it from our booth. Our waiter was very helpful in guiding us to great food and drink choices. The seafood here was fantastic. We started off with the Petite Seafood Plateau. The shrimp was huge, and the oysters were very fresh and sweet. My friends and I also really enjoyed the Kennebec Chips & Salmon Dip. The dip itself was creamy and paired well with the chips, which our waiter kept providing more of throughout our meal. Unfortunately, their pasta was just okay. We ordered the Seafood Tagliatelle to share among the table. We had expected a more Aglio e Olio-style sauce, but it was more like your basic Alfredo white sauce. The seafood in the pasta was, again, fantastic, but the pasta itself was nothing special. What lovely place! It is chic and comfortable with warm decor and low lighting. We stopped by for Easter Brunch and they were able to accommodate us, even without a reservation. The wait staff worked as a team and our food was brought out promptly, each dish more delicious than the last! The Brown Sugar Brisket Burnt Ends were so savory and sweet, I highly recommend them! I loved trying a flight of Oysters. Their descriptions of each oyster were spot on and I knew exactly what I was getting. I also got the Clam Chowder (so fresh and hearty) and Crab Hush Puppies (savory and sweet, crispy and delicious). The "Caviar Captain" gave us great service and it was such a fun experience! They even had NA sparkling option to go with it. The local $1 oysters were really great. My husband and I went for date night, our server DJ or RJ (sorry I am unsure) was so friendly and knew the menu very well even made suggestions, can't say enough good things about him. Skipjack Oyster is a relatively new restaurant located in the Westin hotel downtown and I had dinner there recently. Inside it has an upscale feel and look to it with dark lighting in the evening giving it a romantic vibe to it. It has its own separate street entrance but is also accessible through the hotel lobby. The restaurant specializes in oysters and has a full bar attached to the main dining room. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder to start $11 followed by the prime rib stroganoff for another $29. The chowder arrived first as requested. In a shallow bowl it had bacon, celery and potato with the clams. I liked it (3.5). When the stroganoff arrived it was initially served luke warm. After testing it and informing our waitress it was sent back for a new dish. This took another 15 minutes or so. When the new plate arrived it was hot as it should be. The entree had grilled mushrooms and crispy onions on top of the prime rib and pasta. Taste wise I thought it was ok but nothing special (3). The temperature problem was handled very professionally by the waitstaff along with the manager coming by for a visit. I will say I was impressed by that level of service. I give an overall score of a 3 for taste reasons only. I would be happy to return here but would try something else next time. If you're looking for a top-tier seafood spot in Downtown Austin, Skipjack Oyster is a must-visit. The vibe is perfectly balanced; clean, semi-upscale, and polished without feeling stuffy. The food was incredible from start to finish. We leaned heavily into the seafood, and it did not disappoint: the oysters were fresh and high-quality, the shrimp cocktail was excellent, and those ceviche shooters were a delicious highlight. My family picked this place out of a list I gave them for Christmas Eve Dinner. And let me say this - it was our favorite meal of the trip. We had reservations, and there was no wait when we arrived. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Open design with luminous lighting set the mode for the evening. From our booth, we could easily see the oyster bar and the cocktail bar. Service was excellent with the whole crew assisting to ensure your evening is going well and you have everything you need, any time you need it. We have a few different cocktails and all were good, but man on man - the martini was the best I've ever had! Crisp, smooth, with the slightest hint of citrus. I had a few ;) The oysters were some of the best, too! Clean and fresh! The calamari was decent, but that was the only thing I wasn't really blown away by. All the other dishes were "chef's kiss"! And I don't know how we did it, but we made it to dessert! Both were good, but let's be real - it was just too much LOL. OK, so when you arrive this place is really nice. They did a great job on the interior. Our waiter was so nice and knew exactly what to recommend especially for someone that's picky on wine and oysters. The only reason I'm giving it four stars is because I did not think the oysters were good. I explained to them how I liked them not fishy and more on this sweet silk side and I have to say it's not the waiters fault that he tried his best. He explained as in what they explained to him, but all the oysters to me were not good. They were a little fishy for my taste. Other than not the rest of the food I have to say was delicious. The seafood pasta was phenomenal, but it was a huge portion so you can definitely share this with people. We did start off with the calamari and the crab hush puppies and I have to say delicious. Definitely a good starter. My friend got a salmon dish. I did not try it, but he said it was delicious. They did have ok wine list but they did have really good cocktails and basically they can make anything that you wanted in general. So I would come back for all the other food I had. The flavours were pretty good, which is a shame because the establishment is quite large and not many diners were present on the night of my visit.. I had some Oyster starters (which I don't remember the name of); The ocean salinity wasn't as good as the ones I've tried in Rhode Island and Maine, but it was good enough. The Mahi Mahi Ceviche was superb. I love the high levels of tanginess and acidity. Plus, the Mahi Mahi and Tortilla respectively created a wonderous, chewy yet crunchy bite. However, my major complaint is the difficulty of eating the appetizer all together. Most of the tortillas did not go into the Mahi Mahi bowl well because they were too flat or the bowl was too small. It's a chip and dip plate, but I ended up using my spoon for the most part. There were also too many chips given the size of the ceviche. Still, I really liked how the flavour profile turned out. But the execution could've been better. I got the Golden Beets & Apple for my salad. After a good toss, it turned out to be a well balanced plate with mild layers of sweetness and sourness. I really really wished they added more sunflower seeds because its presence was neglible. Having a stronger nutty, solid layer to the dish would definitely elevate this dish. The Shrimp & Grits were almost perfect. Each bite hits with strong spices and was priced at a decent price. As another means to enjoy the grits, It was also surved with a slightly toasted bread. This was a wonderful addition that reminds me of dishes that maximizes strong broths with bread like French Onion Soups or Mussel Buckets. Unfortunately, the cherry tomatoes were not "blistered" or remotely charred. Needless to say, the pop of an unprepared tomato was a sudden raw surprise to an almost flawless main. I wanted to like the Red Velvet Cream Cheese Ice Cream Bread Pudding, but my taste buds were conflicted. It's a take on the classic Brownie Skillet Sundae, but tasted just as the name implied. However, my taste buds were playing mental gymnastics on me in expecting a hot fudge matched with a chilling vanilla ice cream. Each of the Red Velvet Bread and Cream Cheese Ice Cream were not as potent as their Brownie Skillet Sundae counterpart, so I was slightly disappointed. Admittedly, I still give them credit for nailing their intended flavours. I'm sure there are people who love this rendition. Lastly and most unfortunately, I was slightly dissapointed by its service. While the server's recommendations were on point, the plates were just plopped into front of me with no explanation on its preparation or ingredients. They also misremembered my order when they were making their rounds at the tables. Then, there was a madam that sat a few tables away from me who had some complaints about her meal. Eventually a manager went over to personally apologize, but two incidents is already too much to be a coincidence. My visit was a last minute reservation, so I can see myself coming back if I'm around the area. Perhaps it was an off day for the restaurant, but I was still extremely happy with my food. read more

Stumbled upon this spot while searching for oyster places downtown, and honestly, the food was amazing. Everyone at the table agreed the salmon dip was hands down the best part of the night. The Monday happy hour from 3pm to close was definitely a plus. Service was quick, refills came fast, and the staff walked us through the menu. I went here for a networking happy hour event at SXSW and thought the service, food, and ambiance were all above and beyond. I can't wait to go back for dinner to get the full experience. We loved our server Solo. I use to be a Pink Moon Oyster Girl, but then I had The Queens Cup and tried to go have another Pink Moon afterwards.....NOPE!!! So if you're just going for sweet and tasty, then have at the Queens Cup, however, if you're going for an Oyster Experience, eat them last. As for the rest of our food, the Seafood Tower was amazing. Pre cut King Crab. No fighting for your food. I loved that they had their mignonette sauce in individual science pipettes. I found this very hygienic, thoughtful and creative. We also had Caviar Shots for $10 each. Was nice to be able to have the option to try their caviar, which was sooooooo smooth and creamy, without having to buy a whole tin. A great way to elevate your meal. I will say, they do need a CRAB CAKE and a grill calamari option on top of an arugula salad on the menu. As well, if you are going to have the Crab Hush Puppies, have them first with a group of people. They're a great substitute for bread, but on the heavier side. The food is really, really good. The crab hush puppies are amazing, the shrimp and grits flavorful and rich, the fish cooked spot-on. It's just that the service sucked. Our server disappeared for long periods of time. Items we ordered never showed up. When runners brought out a course they dropped it and ran off like they owed us money. No checking in, asking if we needed anything. We needed a spoon to eat the shrimp and grits because it was very liquid but there was no one to ask. We made do. Our desserts were a bread pudding and separately a brownie each in a cast iron skillet and topped with ice cream. The skillets were ridiculously hot, like Mexican fajita platter hot, and again we had NO SPOONS so we're scanning the restaurant looking for someone to flag down to bring us spoons before the whole thing melts. I wanted a wine with my dessert but I couldn't get it because no one was around and no one checked in on us. Our server, Mando, was wonderful, and my husband and I both felt like he was the best server we have ever had! He made plenty of recommendations and personally crafted our cocktails. I enjoyed their oyster options and visited during their happy hour! All oysters were half off up until about 6:00 or 6:30 ($15/ dozen) and thankfully none of them are gulf oysters. I wasn't a huge fan of the salmon dip. It was overly cream cheesy in my opinion, but to each their own! Other happy hour items include $5 each sliders, half priced select wines and discounted apps. Absolutely delicious dinner with great service and beautifully designed interior! I was so happy to see another oyster spot in Austin and these were so good especially the ones from PEI. I also ordered the Seafood Tagliatelle which was a wonderful plate! It was a tasty pasta with shrimp, clams, and mussels so perfect for any seafood lover! I came with a large group and the server was super patient and helpful even though they just opened. This is a must try spot if you are in downtown Austin. read more
