This is the best Pad Thai I've ever had. (Including Thailand) It is an unexpected hidden gem! All of the things my group ordered were delicious. On paper, it should have been easy: seafood, oysters, and a place that sounds like it knows what it's doing. In reality, it was a masterclass in how to make a restaurant feel busy while somehow being empty. The wait times were absurd, especially considering there weren't people there, which made the whole experience feel less like dining out and more like being held hostage by a very slow clock. The seafood was not good. Not "not my favorite," not "a little off" -- just plain not good. The menu was also bizarre in a way that felt less creative and more like someone lost a bet and had to build a restaurant around the leftovers. And if you're looking for anything dairy-free or gluten-free, good luck. The options are basically "no" with a side of disappointment. It is not family friendly at all, with no options for children. So I hate to write bad reviews but I think it's important for the servers and the company to know what happened. Myself, friends and family were wanting to do a crawfish and crab boil so I recommended coming here since I have before- we arrived 45 mins before closing and when we walked in everyone who worked there kicked us out and said they closed.When I looked on google, Apple Maps and the website it said they were open for whole another hour.We ended up doing one at home but made us not want to come back again to the rude staff. read more

It's been a little while since I've been here, the last three visits were kind of strange, I sat down for 10 to 15 minutes and no one served me so I simply walked out. I decided to give them one more try today, I am so glad I did. They have a new drink on the menu, frozen margaritas so of course I had to order one! And of course, my old standby : boiled CRAWFISH with a potato on the side so I got 2 pounds spicy! These were probably the best CRAWFISH I have had in the last two years, they popped right out of the shell clean, perfectly seasoned, and bonus! Lots of big claws full of meat as well! Well...this place sucks. Avoid! I was super stoked to try this place! I was in the strip mall for some other reasons and we decided this was the time to go! It was past the normal lunch rush time, 1:46pm according to my ticket. There were only 2 other tables when we arrived. Walk in and server says sit anywhere and hands us our menus. Ok. I order a glass of wine and boyfriend orders a beer. We ask for a dozen raw oysters and she says they are out. Points to a table of guys and says they had ordered them all, she only has cooked oysters. Ok we pivot and order the ocean blue oysters (cooked). We also order a cup of etoufee and the combo platter to split. Then the food comes. The oysters...disgusting. Picture tiny dried up pieces of rubber sitting on a dry shell. The bottle of sauce they brought with the food had zero flavor except "heat". Like none. The etoufee was "meh" at best. Super bland. The garlic bread that came with it was the only saving grace. The combo platter tasted like any other frozen fish meal you can buy at a grocery store. Definitely not fresh fish. Just bland and boring. The tartar sauce tasted "off" so we didn't eat it. The cocktail sauce was flavorless. I opted for ketchup which just tasted watered down like they were trying to stretch it. The fries were soft and mushy, the hush puppies were tiny bite size pieces of flavorless dough. They were obviously full size at one point but the kitchen had cut them into smaller pieces. Were they running low and trying to stretch the supply waiting for a delivery or something? I don't know. But it was all around terrible. I ask for the check and she brings it out, all looks right and I give her my card. She brings it back and it's different. Original ticket total (which was correct and what we ordered) was $65.47. She brings it back for me to sign and she had it totaled at $92.52? AFTER I gave her my card she had ADDED the dozen raw oysters ($24.99) and rang it up. The same ones we never got because they were out. But there they were on the bill AFTER the initial and correct ticket drop. WTH. So of course I wait for her to come back and I say "this is wrong" and she just says "oh. Ok. I'll take it off". Is this something they do? Just add food items AFTER and hope you don't read the itemized? I really hope not. She removed it and apologized, I paid the correct bill and we left. When we got in the car I said "well at least the bathroom was clean." And boyfriend responds "I'm glad yours was." So apparently the men's room...was not. I have had decent experiences at this place before but tonight was definetly not one of them. Payed 25 dollars for a dozen nasty looking, tiny, flavorless oysters, they were definetly off. The bottle of cocktail sauce exploded backwards all over my shirt adding insult to Injury ( not blaming them). Spring rolls were fine each had one cut in half shrimp for 8$. The wings in spicy Asian sauce were swimming in a very salty sauce that ruined whatever crisp they had. Love it here! I was momentarily distraught when I looked up deckhands and it no longer existed, but thankfully I realized it is now named Ocean Blue. Walked in around lunch time on a Saturday to a decently packed restaurant with only two servers. Though that made me nervous, the staff was efficient and friendly! We ordered all of our food as soon as we sat down, and it came out shortly after. We started with Tokyo Oyster's, which were yummy but weirdly not iced? The bowl of gumbo was delicious and the perfect amount to share instead of getting two separate cups. We also got a pound of crawfish and half dozen Cajun shrimp with potatoes and corn. Seasoning was delicious but the shrimp were a bit too overcooked which made it difficult to peel. Other than that, the food was delicious and I would definitely recommend it to anyone craving some tasty seafood! read more

I have never eaten here so I can't give a full on review but my brother and SIL love it here. I stopped to get them a gift card for Xmas. They were having some trouble with the credit card authorization so I had to wait a few minutes but not too long. I bought a gift card for 100 bucks and there was an additional 10 bucks added. That's nice but at another place that rhymes with "Smalt Shaders" gave me 10 bucks extra on each 50 that I spent. ;) Just saying. ;) The place looked inviting and clean. On this Tuesday, they were very busy at lunchtime, but we still had fast and efficient service. Great crawfish, but they NEVER pick up the phone for to-go orders. When they do, they put you on hold and forget about you for over 15 minutes. If you hang up and call back, their phone won't even ring because the line is stuck on the hold/busy tone. Lots of tvs to watch the games. Service was okay. They're available and check in from time to time but did not refill all of our waters (only half the table). When bringing out our food, they brought out food only once they were ready. So half of our table received the food first and the other half waited 10 min later to receive their food. My mom and dad were nearly done with their food by the time the rest of us received our food. I received my food last-- 15 min after my parents received their food. I had to nibble on my fiancés food until I finally got my dish. This is not how you deliver food to a table. It should be timed so that everyone receives food nearly the same time. Now comes the food which was utterly disappointing. I took my parents here bc I know they love chargrilled oysters. We ordered two half dozen oysters- the La Frontera and the deckhand. The frontera was pretty good with the crabmeat, bacon bits and Monterrey Jack cheese. The deckhand was average with butter and fried onions. My parents were so disappointed to begin the meal. The presentation was lackluster. My parents got their food first and my mom got the seafood noodle soup which was suppose to be like Tom yum soup. The soup was so bland and had no taste of tamarind or spice (she got mild though). My dad loves his fried catfish but the batter was light and fell off the catfish easily. Half the fries on the dish were unsalted and the others were heavily salted, very inconsistent. My dish was the spicy Basil stir fry with beef. It was actually above average and hot/fresh. Tasted very similar to pad ka prow and I love that dish usually. The other dishes were average. At the end of the meal, we were totally planning on ordering the mango sticky rice bc my mom has been craving it but we didn't want to take a chance with anymore of their dishes. When this place used to be Deckhand Oyster Bar, they had a whole slew of Thai food items on the menu. Curries, chicken satay, all kinds of dishes that are so rare to find at a seafood place in Austin. Since becoming Ocean Blue, they got rid of most of these Thai inspired dishes. I used to come at least twice a month, not anymore. The seafood is still decent quality and they kept a select few of the Thai dishes, but it's just not the same. read more

I want to follow up on my 2star review a few weeks ago -- I returned to get a dozen of those delicious oysters (as good as the first time!), only this time I had a much better experience with the food. I had their seafood gumbo which was delicious. And also their catfish bites which were fresh and not greasy. So I guess avoid the fries and the salt n pepper seafood, both of which are very greasy. Came here for a casual date and we loved it!!! Our server was so sweet and she gave us great recommendations and was very attentive to our likes!! Have never had a fried calamari with nuoc mam in it before, and it didn't disappoint one bit, very unique taste, and would highly recommend to anybody coming to check this place out. I had a frozen margarita, it was good but I've definitely had others that are more boozy, less slushy, better consistency and less watered-down. I ordered the calamari and I thought it was OK. It was a little too chewy for my taste and it seem like it was a lot but really it was just a ton of onion and jalapeños in there. I will say the breaded shrimp were very tasty and would definitely go back and get that again. I will say I had been there a while ago and got their fried rice with shrimp and it was phenomenal. I really like the environment and the interior design with the neon ambiance and Jimmy Buffett / Key West style decor. There's about 10 beers on tap and the bartenders are always entertaining, cheerful, and super cool. You can find a nice spot in the corner for a relaxed lunch meeting. Ah, it's hard to say because the food was so good!!! But the service here was so bad I might never come back to dine in. I arrived at 8pm with a party of 6. It wasn't completely slammed but there were prob 30 patrons overall. Half of my party has had deckhands take out before so we knew we were gonna have some bomb ass food. Unfortunately, the in house service was just horrendous. We all ordered at the same time. But the same 2 items (deckhand platter) came within 45 minutes of each other, half of us were done eating before the last person got their food. The crawfish combos were missing items. Drinks never came out. I know they were overwhelmed. It seemed like there were only 2 servers for the entire place, 2 busses, and 2 food runners. I'll give this place 2 stars because the staff was friendly and the decor is a "vibe". However, the service needs some work. I was by myself at the bar, ordered 1 lb of (non-fresh boil) crawfish and another couple sat down minutes after me. They got several dishes before me and then when I thought the crawfish finally arrived, they pulled a switcharoo and said it was for the couple next to me. After 30 minutes I finally gave up, asked for the check and was ready to leave on an empty stomach. On top of all that, there was a chip in the pint glass. I have been grappling with what to say here for a while now. Let me first say, that my husband and I, he especially, LOVE the food here. We do! The choices are vast, it's fresh, the portions are big, and the beer prices are absolutely exceptional! However, the service has been going downhill continually now, and last night, hit an all time low. For starters, our server, when she finally did arrive, (keeping in mind we were one of only 3 tables), never once said hi, introduced herself, nothing. She brought menus and asked for our drink order. For the entirety of the rest of our evening, we had to flag her down because she never once returned on her own time. The food was always delivered by a runner, and we ended up having to order drinks from the bar a couple of times. She never thanked us for coming, and we had to ask for our to go containers, but she only brought one for 3 plates of food, including a soupy dish. I ordered the thai whole fish, but was given the regular whole fish, and charged additionally for the thai topping, for a grand total of $30, with sides I hadn't wanted, nor ordered. But, it gets worse...there is one bartender in particular who we have seen many times, and he just likes to stare, which is quite off putting and uncomfortable. We were sitting facing the bar, near the restroom, and when he exited the restroom, he came out just a mere minute or less later, actively ZIPPING HIS PANTS as he walked back behind the bar! I could not believe it! And then a kitchen staff member entered the restroom and remained there for some time, during which I went in to use the restroom and while she was walking out, she exited the stall and didn't stop to wash her hands. We're genuinely at a crossroads here because we love the food, but the service and now the cleanliness and sanitation of the staff has us questioning things. read more

Deckhand serves the "Vietnamese-Cajun" styled Crawfish, which consists of butter and garlic. If you have ever had the Vietnamese-Cajun styled crawfish, THIS IS THE WAY. However, Deckhand replaces butter with MARGARINE, which doesn't give as rich a flavor as needed.
