Meeting friends in Austin we picked this restaurant at random being halfway between our locations. What a great choice! All of our selections were outstanding. I recommend the crawfish chili relleno, a batter fried poblano pepper stuffed with cheesy, crawdads served on a bed of rice with queso. Crawfish etouffee featured a generous portion of crawdads in a tangy, Cajun sauce, perfectly spiced. Service was quick and friendly and we had no room for dessert! read more

I am a regular at Cypress Grill, a restaurant that has a Louisiana Cajun fare menu. It has a relaxing, casual atmosphere with seriously good food that is made from scratch. They are known as a small restaurant with a big heart. I am always looking for a place that balances comfort with thoughtful execution, and Cypress Grill always delivers. They have an amazing reward program. I was using my $10 off birthday coupon on this occasion. My go-to is the trout meunière, and it is prepared beautifully. The rainbow trout was perfectly cooked, delicate, flaky, and never overdone, with that classic meunière preparation letting the fish shine. The lemon-parsley butter sauce was bright and balanced, enhancing the dish without overpowering it, and every bite felt intentional and refined. It is served over white rice. I usually get a side salad with ranch dressing that is crisp and fresh. On this dining occasion, I sat at the bar and the bar tender was attentive and friendly with appropriate conversation. The atmosphere in the dining area is relaxed yet polished, making it just as suitable for a casual night out as for a special dinner. Service was attentive without hovering. Cypress Grill is the kind of place that reminds you why simple dishes, when done right, are so satisfying. It was very busy this afternoon. Until after the happy hour and then all of a sudden the restaurant was almost empty. Until then the noise level was a little high. The food was decent. This was my first dine in visit but my mom's second and I had a bit of a mixed experience with my order, but the outstanding customer service was the absolute highlight of my visit. I wasn't a fan of my original dish, but the staff was so incredibly kind and understanding about the swap. They helped me switch to the shrimp po'boy, and it was delicious! My only problem was that my bread pudding that was ordered along with a seafood platter in my additional to-go order was missing. Again the server and managements great attitude still made it a positive experience. That we will again drive back into Austin to experience. read more

If you are looking for a delicious Muffletta, you should give this place a try. We started off with a couple of adult beverages. The Margarita on the rocks was really good and refreshing, but the Bloody Mary won the prize. It's probably one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had. It was really tasty, flavorful and delicious and had some kick to it...pretty spicy...which I like. If you don't like spicy...steer clear. We ordered the "Troy's Favorite Lunch". It came with a quarter Muffuletta and a cup of chicken & andouille sausage gumbo, we substituted it for the seafood gumbo. The sandwich had a lot of meat and cheese on it with the olive sauce paired very nicely. The bread was very fresh and the combination of everything complimented each other and was very tasty. The seafood gumbo was delicious. From the thick dark brown roux, the rice and a lot of shrimp and seafood, it was really good. The servings are very generous, I don't think you'll leave hungry. The hostess was very friendly and welcoming. Our server was very polite and was very knowledgeable about the menu. He was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant has a really fun and laidback vibe to it. The atmosphere was very pleasant, fun and full of friendly people. The restaurant was very clean. I highly recommend giving this place a try. The fried food is very much fresh, but it's like fried but now like overly greasy the service is friendly, especially if you sit at the bar, but even the tables they are super happy everybody's talking to each other. The patrons are really complementary about the entire restaurant the ambience is comfortable and fun and everybody seems to be enjoying themselves. I had the crawfish eggrolls and Boudin balls and some french fries to go with my delicious lemon drops and cosmos you can't go wrong. My partner brought me here, he used to come here a lot. This is my first time coming here and my food was delicious. I got the crawfish delight and it was amazing. I can't wait to go back. The pot roast was yummy. The food wasn't salty, I'm super salty sensitive and I was happy that I was able to eat it. The service was okay, I think our server was bogged down with a table that kept talking to him, so it was taking much of his time. It was fine. We love Cypress Grill and have come for years... Tonight we ordered to go. Salmon salad, catfish platters, trout menagerie, kid's shrimp and chicken and andouille gumbo. Everything was delicious, even for take-out.... EXCEPT the gumbo. Not sure what happened to the gumbo. I usually love the dark roux but tonight it tasted a bit burned and with an almost burnt coffee taste. Sadly it was inedible. Don't let that keep you from having the gumbo but maybe don't order it to-go in case there are issues. No other pictures because, we were hungry. read more

Had lunch with my husband today at Cypress Grill. It is a fabulous New Orleans inspired restaurant just west of Mopac on William Cannon in the Gold's Gym shopping center. It's been a while since we have eaten at this restaurant and I forgot how wonderful it is. We were seated as soon as we entered. Drink orders taken in a timely manner while we looked over the menu. My husband had a margarita and it was smooth and refreshing. He then decided to try their Spice Infused Bloody Mary in which they infuse vodka in house with a variety of hot peppers such as jalapenos and serranos. I had a taste, and while it was a bit too hot for me, it had a wonderful array of flavors. My husband, who likes spicy, said it was the best bloody mary he ever had in a restaurant. We both decided to order the Troy's Favorite Lunch, which is a quarter muffuletta and a cup of gumbo. We both opted for the seafood gumbo. The gumbo had a flavorful roux with shrimp and crab that was quite tasty. The muffuletta had grilled ham, Genoa Salami, Mortadella, melted Provolone cheese, and homemade olive dressing. The bread was perfectly toasted and remained crunchy to the last bite. The meats were perfectly grilled with the cheese and with the right touch of olive dressing. While a quarter of a sandwich may not sound like enough to fill you up, don't be fooled. It's huge and more than enough for a meal let alone adding the amazing gumbo. The service was attentive, the meal well paced, and the cajun/zydeco background music was festive. I can't wait to go back. read more

Cypress Grill still makes me sing EVERY TIME!!!! Even though my appetite isn't what it used to be, my love for this place hasn't faded one bit. I'm still obsessed with the Seafood Gumbo and Crawfish Étouffée. For apps and dessert, I still go for the Crawfish Eggrolls and Bread Pudding. Though I can no longer stuff myself in one sitting, I see of it now as a blessing. It just means I get to enjoy a second round of greatness at a later date! read more

A very long time coming with an update. We don't head out for Cajun often, mainly because of Suzie's shellfish allergies. On our way home, after needing some feed after a day downtown, we just went for it. Something a little different than our usual locations we know and enjoy close to home. Arrived around 6pm and there was a small wait, 15mins and then were seated at a 4-top, which we were grateful for. A little more room to stretch out if you would. Alyssa came by shortly afterwards and we opted for the boudin balls and a couple of wines to start. She noted the allergy and off she went. When she returned with the boudin, we ordered our entrees, Catfish Atchafalaya and Red beans and rice. I opted for fried catfish, yeah do that. Boudin balls were soft and tasty. Nice and crispy batter outside and I think there were like 7 to an order. Big helping. This would continue with the arrival of my Catfish and Red Beans. We also opted for Mustard greens, as you would, as an additional side. My Catfish filled the plate with a thick layer of etouffee resting on top of a bed of rice. Serious eats here folks. The catfish was piping hot and had a great crunch, even if it was smoothed with etoufee. Spice was on point and the rice was not a mushy mess. Very good and a hearty serving to boot. I only managed to knock back half of it. Nice fresh steamed broccoli came along for the ride. I liked the mustard greens as well. Just a hint of swampy long stewed goodness. I had a spoonful of Suzies Red Beans and the andouille snarsage that came with it. A pretty dang big link to boot. Also well seasoned and filling. Alyssa was on top of it, friendly and timely. Checked in with us and visited for quick little chats but stayed on course. Excellent service. We choose to pick up a T-Shirt, how touristy, they were cute. I wondered to myself, why has it been so long since we popped by? Cypress seemed to me to be more what you Louisiana mum would cook for you. The meal was meant to be fulfilling, which definitely was. After we got home, I found myself hitting up the fridge to polish off the dish a little later in the evening. Sleep like a bear in hibernation afterwards. Happy we made the right into their big parking lot, then heading for a burger just down the street. read more

Came for weekend brunch and it didn't disappoint. Vacationed to Austin and was expecting to just eat a lot of good BBQ but this New Orleans place really hit the spot. The French Toast on the French baguette was one of my favorites. It's soaked in the egg long enough so it's not hard anymore but also not mushy. Ham is a bit salty but the seasoning really hits.
