I ordered a custom crafted Black Cherry Muddled Mezcal Margarita, which was a great balance of smoky mezcal, sweetness, and fresh flavors. It was a unique twist on a classic margarita and was the highlight of the meal. I started with the Roasted Carrots, served with whipped ricotta, watercress, date vinaigrette, and candied pecans. While the combination of flavors was interesting, the dish felt more like a salad than a true roasted carrot dish. The carrots were also a bit overcooked, and I would have preferred for the carrots themselves to be the main focus and shine as the highlight of the dish. For my entrée, I ordered the Cioppino and customized it by removing the clams and adding extra mussels. The dish featured mussels, white fish, shrimp, and chopped clams in a flavorful tomato broth served with grilled sourdough. The seafood was well prepared, however the broth was a bit too thick like a marinara consistency but had good rich and savory flavor. I really wanted to love Keepers. As someone who loves supporting local restaurants -- especially Persian-owned businesses -- and lives in an area that desperately needs more great dining options, I was rooting for this place from the beginning. Unfortunately, over time, the food has been more disappointing than memorable. From the opening preview when the shrimp hot dog made its debut -- an ambitious choice, but not one that made me excited to come back -- to the overly salty crab fingers and other menu items that have felt like they were trying to be interesting rather than actually being delicious, it just hasn't come together. The biggest frustration is that the potential is clearly there. The location is great, the concept is unique, and Circle C needs more restaurants that people can't wait to return to. I'm still hoping they find their stride because I want local places like this to succeed. read more

Staff was very nice and welcoming, nice environment to watch sports. They have another restaurant attached that looked like a nice place to drink. We started off with a mango margarita, which was not my favorite 6/10, it was very clumpy and seemed like the just dumped in some artificial mango sauce. The arancini could've been good but it had so many onions, I don't mind onions but I think the portion of onions just took over, barely got any cheese from it. 5/10. The beer battered fish and chips were very good, 9/10. I would eat this again for sure. The seasoned grilled fish was disappointing, it was flounder but it just lacked seasoning, very bland. I was mixing it was sauces that came on the side for my beer battered fish. The risotto didn't do much for the dish, considering it was a seasonal fish, I just thought it would be better. I've been coming here a bunch lately as the bar has a nice chill vibe and good HH specials. The only thing I would say is that the Zen Roll has too much rice and not enough fish. Perhaps they put more rice during the HH rolls but not the regular ones? The flavors are good. Sushi is meant to be eaten in one bite. When I eat this sushi I almost feel like I might choke. I tried biting in half but of course, it all falls apart. The size of the roll has been on the large size for at least 3-4 visits with different chefs making them. read more

Quite enjoyed my visit to keepers. I came with my mom for Sunday brunch in December and the day we came around 1pm, the place was oddly super empty! I had seen it a couple weeks prior on a Saturday night when going to the adjacent-attached speakeasy (Daisy) and the place had been absolutely POPPING with people, so I was kinda surprised it was so scarce. There were maybe 2-3 other groups seated and a couple folks at the bar? Needless to say - we were able to sit where we wanted; I like the decor in and around the place so we sat at a table on the far right wall (relative to the entrance), by some windows. Our waiter was friendly and answered all our questions. My mom ordered the Ruby red trout, and I ordered the ceviche. We both quite enjoyed what we had, and I also got the Elderflower spritz cocktail which for all intents and purposes was an aperol spritz with some floral flavor behind it. It was served in a pretty good size glass though, I enjoyed it! Also the bathrooms are clean, and they are shared with adjacent-attached "Oasthouse," as well as the speakeasy "Daisy." The parking lot has ample space, no issue there. Overall: I quite enjoyed my visit to keepers! I wasn't "blows away," and probably won't seek it out for another visit just because there are other seafood spots I want to try, but I think they did a fairly good job. I had no idea this place existed! It's a charming seafood spot with options for everyone. We tried the arancini balls, fish tacos, and mushroom risotto. The arancini balls were perfectly crispy, cheesy, and tangy. The fish tacos were packed and incredibly refreshing and delicious. The mushroom risotto was rich and cheesy, pairing wonderfully with the mushrooms. I wanted to try the horchata drink, but unfortunately, they were out! It is of interest when you frequent an establishment to see the changes as they grow up. Amir and his team here has most definitely seen lots of changes. We have known several different bar-keeps and wait staff come and go. As Amir likes to say, they have trained some of the best folks in town. Which I would completely agree with. I cannot imagine being an owner of a bar/restaurant, hiring new people, spending time with them, training them only to see them leave for potential better opportunities elsewhere. PS, the grass isn't greener on the other side of the fence. Keepers continues to impress me. Their creative menu, with upgraded seasonal additions continue be delicious. Some of their simple things, such as their fries. Seems simple enough, but they are not. Crunchy coatings and hot soft potato's inside is perfect. Although seafood heavy, well it is a seafood restaurant, the Plancha Burger is easily one of the best burgers I have ever had. I enjoy their Fried Green Tomatoes. Since spousey is shell fish allergic, I get to blow out my need with an order of Chowda Fries and a Lobster roll. I literally can eat two of these rolls... okay I have, to be fair. They have seasonal oysters, kettle boils, sushi rolls and fish plates. I mean it's all here. Barkeeps are skilled and can make just about anything, except Pina Colada's, thank god. Service for us has always been stellar. We feel part of the family if you would and always have staff coming over to say hello and they are happy to see us. It has been a rare event that something just didn't hit right, in fact I am struggling to remember when something wasn't. I've been exploring more of South Austin's dining scene and came across Keepers while looking for fresh seafood. The first thing I loved was the ample parking and seating. The ambiance is bright and nautical without being tacky. I came in to catch the tail end of happy hour and got to try the ceviche and a discounted beer. They also have daily specials on oysters, cocktails, and wines. For the entrees, I chose the redfish and grits while my date went with the softshell crab roll. Both dishes were fresh, and the portions were generous, which is always appreciated. The menu has plenty of other seafood favorites, with a few non-seafood choices if that's your preference. I'd love to come back to try dessert next time, as the guava key lime pie jar was definitely calling my name. read more

Went here for just apps and drinks. It had a nice feel on the inside, clean and coastal chic. It was pretty empty on the Thursday night that we went but nonetheless we were met with very friendly and patient service from our waiter and the bartender whom we interacted with a bit. My vegetarian friend had the Fried Green Tomatoes while I opted for the Ceviche Verde. The tomatoes were tasty but would have been better hotter (they were brought out warm). The ceviche with shrimp and whitefish was fantastic and the bowl seemed bottomless. So full after these apps but still wanting more My friend had the Parmesan Risotto and I ordered the Garlic Chili Noodles so I could share it with my veggie friend. Besides I had already eaten my fill of seafood with the ceviche. Both the risotto and noodles Sat well on the taste buds but I preferred the noodles which surprisingly weren't overwhelmed with garlic. (I am not a huge fan of overuse of garlic in a dish) The flavors in the noodles dish were very well balanced. I would have opted for some protein but I was being considerate. Almost forgot! My wife and I went here last night for our anniversary. It was close by and we wanted to try a new place. We made a reservation online and I was prompted to add that we were celebrating. I was never asked if we were celebrating anything even though I was asked when I made the reservation. I overlooked the omission and we went in to order. The service was very good but that was the highlight of our experience. The food: First we ordered the calamari and it was just alright, as it was mostly breading without very many pieces having a decent amount of the squid. My wife ordered the snow crab boil. The amount of snow crab in the boil was very minimal and they were the very thin variety, think of any Asian buffet, so she got very little crab. One small piece of corn, a fair amount of sausage, and one red potato came with the boil. The sausage, however, had some kind of weird film on the outside and was very chewy. I had the blackened red fish plate, which came with grits. The fish itself was actually pretty good and was a reasonably decent size. The grits were undercooked unfortunately but might have been ok if cooked properly. Even though the pricing was alright, we still felt like we had overpaid due to the food not being very good. Our experience was definitely disappointing. We decided to go to Mandolas for dessert instead of taking a chance on the dessert quality. I will not be going back. read more

We visited Keepers for happy hour midweek. It was a chill spot that had a pretty center bar. They have a decent HH with specials on food and drinks. We each got a glass of sauv blanc and ordered the ceviche and chowda fries. The fries were good, but wow the ceviche was the highlight! We'll definitely be back for it. We've been here 3 times now and each time had exceptional service and delicious food! The menu has lots of different options for all the seafood lovers out there. The oysters my husband got were delicious and the presentation with the dropper of Minette dressing was perfect. The seafood platter was enough food for 5 of us to share for a very hearty appetizer. We got all 3 of the butter sauces with it and the plane Jane garlic butter was my favorite. The only thing that wasn't a hit was the garlic chili noodles, they were overly spicy and I thought they'd have more of a broth/sauce and not just a bowl of noodles. Pretty nice ambiance inside and out minus non helpful wait staff. I came during happy hour with my partner and 5 month old. The place was empty at 6pm on a Thursday. no one was at the hostess stand to greet us, a staff member from behind the bar walked over and brought us to a table. No recommendations or words were even exchanged. Anyway, I knew there was a happy hour menu from an event I attended a few weeks back and wanted to try more menu items. So the cane staff member came back to ask us our drink orders and I go on to ask about the happy hour menu, they explained the starred menu items are half off and oysters are $5-10 off per dozen. Anyway we ordered one cocktail, a dozen oysters, and 2 shrimp tacos. The tacos are so good and are worth it, although I don't think they are a deal to come during happy hour vs regular hours, they oysters are good but not worth the cost, literally can go to Whole Foods or central market and pay 1/3 the cost. Finally got in here for a quick drink and apps. Well what was supposed to be quick ended up being a couple hours. The sashimi and oysters were fresh with zesty sauces. Fried green tomatoes were really good with great crisp batter which stayed on the tomatoes instead of peeling off which gave tender tomato slices a beautiful crunch, accompanied by the sauce and goat cheese for a lovely bite. I was unaware of this restaurant until I was invited to attend a Yelp event there. We were treated to a nice selection from their menu. The calamari I had was delicious (although I heard another attendee say his was overcooked). Mine was perfect. The Shrimp Tacos were also excellent, but my favorite was the ceviche---a great mix of fresh fish with hints of spicy peppers and sweet pineapple. So good! I would not recommend the lobster mac and cheese; it had no cheese (more of a white sauce) and no lobster. The outdoor dining area was very nice and the perfect place to sit and enjoy the last of our cool spring evenings. I will definitely return to try more things from the menu. read more

I went on a Tuesday evening at 7:00pm and it was quite empty. We got seated right away and chose to sit outside since the lighting was a little dim in the interior. We had a variety of apps: the ceviche verde, calamari, and soft shell roll. I originally wanted the zen roll but they were out of it. The ceviche tasted extremely fresh! A wonderful balance of seafood flavors from the shrimp and fish cut with the lime citrus plus lightly spicy taste and the crunch from the radishes and onions. The soft shell crab was good but there were only 4 or 5 pieces of sushi. I wouldn't reorder it since there weren't many stand out flavors. It just had a light crunch accompanied with the taste of crab, crunch of cucumber, and creaminess of the avocado. It could definitely use an additional sauce to add some extra flavor. The calamari was so delicious! It hit the spot! Super nice and crunchy, plenty of small pieces easy to pop in your mouth. The tangy sauce paired perfectly! The menu stated its all sustainably sourced where menu stated beer battered pacific rockfish, keepers' apple slaw, red onions, chipotle aioli, toasted bun, and fries. I think Keepers is a very nice atmosphere. The place is well laid out. We (3) were able to enjoy our dinner and conversation pleasantly. Our waitress (Veronica) was super. She had a great personality and kept on top of our needs and ensured all was well thoughout the evening. We were there during happy hour so got to enjoy a good price on the Margaritas and some of their appetizers. And were also given a total bill military discount which always makes things good. We've visited a couple times and have had consistent experiences. Good service, huge portions, and zero wait for a table. When I say huge portions, I'm talking biggest chunks of tuna I've ever had in a tuna tostada. It could've been spread across two servings (not like we were complaining lol). The whole dish is very tasty but a bit oily. They drizzle some sesame oil on it that's been heavy handed both times. Surprisingly they don't have salmon on the menu. My toddler loves salmon and thankfully our server made a great recommendation to do a plain filet of the white fish and grill it. Done. Perfect alternative! We've tried to ceviche, a few different sushi rolls, and the arancini (that one was a bit surprising for a seafood restaurant but it's actually one of my fave things to order here). There is a selection of cocktails (somewhat weak) but i enjoyed my caparinha. The calamari could've been crispier but the ratio of breading to seafood was good as was the dip. French fries were crunchy. I enjoyed my ocean trout and rice. The brussels sprouts as a side dish were cooked perfectly: crispy exterior, soft interior, not too bitter. Came back with some girlfriends for dinner for my birthday. Our waiter was super sweet. Dark and candle lit once the sun went down, but beware where you sit during the sunset the glare sun might blind ya if you aren't sitting in the right spot lol we shared the Fried Mushrooms, Calamari, Fried Green Tomatoes and Oysters. The Fried Green Tomatoes were my favorite. So flavorful and filling. I also liked the dipping sauce for the calamari. It was a tangy sweeter flavor. The fried mushrooms were not your traditional kind, but more stringy, but nice and crispy. I had the Scallops for my entree. They weren't the warmest when arrived, but we're large and filling. The service was great and so was the atmosphere until a person with 4 large dogs entered and sat on the small front patio with us. The person made multiple trips back to their car to get dog beds, then moved several chairs to create an 'enclosure' for his dogs. The air was then full of barking dogs and their person telling them to shut up. This was very unnerving so I moved to an inside table, which is not where I wanted to be. Maybe a no-pet policy should be considered? The food was delicious but beware of the sashimi tuna appetizer and the Zen sushi roll: you'll need to bring your microscope to see any seafood. Felt like these were either extremely overpriced or under-seafooded. Wish I had taken photos to post. My inner Karen stayed silent thankfully, but she certainly had a lot to say.
