I stopped today with my husband and absolutely LOVED it, I'm definitely gonna be back!! But let me tell you more! The indoor is very beautiful and smells like cinnamon and apple (a scent that I love), especially going towards the bathrooms. Theres a bar section with plenty of seating and the room inside the restaurant is overall very spacious. I didn't see much of the indoor as I decided to sit outside in the patio. Although being during the Texas summer, the patio has plenty of (very powerful) fans! The view of the green belt next to the restaurant is amazing, and there is also an outdoor bar, which gives impeccable vibes. We ordered two starters and had plenty of food! My husband ordered the Barbacoa Stackers (slow roasted barbacoa, refried black beans, Jack cheese, JAK slaw, Cotija cheese) I personally loved them! The meat was tasty and juicy, the black beans were perfectly cooked and everything was so rich in flavor. Definitely a 10/10! I ordered the Homemade Buttermilk Biscuit, served with honey & seasonal fruit flavored butter (with a side of yummy bacon) Today they had strawberry flavor, and there was even strawberry jam. I have to be honest, THE BEST biscuits I've ever had in my life! And I love me some good biscuits! They were buttery and crumbly to the right point! The strawberry butter with the strawberry jam was the perfect combo! We were told the biscuits are made fresh every morning, and I love that! It was definitely a 1000/10! We also got some chips and salsa. Chips are very crunchy, and the salsa is spicy to the right point! Now I'm building my tolerance with the spicy and this salsa was really yummy, and can build up the spice! The waiter who served it to us, brought it over in a small mason jar and emptied it in the little container for our table, which was something I've never seen done like this. Definitely appreciated it! Makes me think they make their own salsa (forgot to check on that!) They also gave us a complimentary pita bread with pimento, and it was delicious! The pita bread was very crunchy and salty to the right point! They even gifted me a portion of peach and strawberry cobbler, topped with ice cream, for my birthday and it was insane! The flavor was perfectly sweet and mixed with the ice cream was very refreshing and still warm and melting in my mouth! Probably one of the best cobblers I've ever had! And keep in mind, we got here that we weren't feeling super hungry, and yet we were able to appreciate every single bite cause it was so good!! Last but not least - Ali, our server, was incredible! She was so nice throughout the whole dining experience and made sure we had everything we needed. She was so kind to ask if I could add peach puree to my freshly squeezed lemonade (which is a 10/10), and even made sure I had plenty of strawberry butter for my biscuits. I recently had a work meeting in Austin, and I booked a large group at this spot. I can easily say, this will be my go-to every time I come back to Austin. Between the phenomenal service, the ease of catering to a big group, and the amazing food, this place is a 10 out of 10. The pimento cheese is a great touch. We were a party of 6 and were seated over looking the beautiful live oaks. Just stunning. The place is loud so be prepared to speak louder across the table to your guests. Service was one point. The food was presented to feed your eyes before tasting. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. My husband loved the fried bone in pork chop with mashed potatoes and vegetables. I had the special which was chipotle grilled shrimp on a bed of crisp potatoes with a chipotle seasoned sweet potatoes and avocado purée. It was delicious. I wish though that the avocado puree was drizzled on top of the dish instead of on the bottom. That way each bit would have a little of the creamy puree. Looking forward to visiting again. read more

I hate to share this since they are already so busy...but...on Mondays from 3pm-close, they currently have half price appetizers and $5 margaritas. We've tried many items on the menu. The fried catfish is yummy, the guacamole is a good serving to share, the quesadillas with barcoa beef...delish! Soup of the days are great (they will bring you a sample if unsure). This week we tried the chicken nachitos and guacamole, hearty servings, love their chips. My family and I went to Jack Allen's Kitchen on New Year's Eve for a late lunch. It was after the lunch rush and before the dinner rush so we didn't have to worry about crowds. We drove up and parked easily. We walked in and were given the choice to eat inside or outside. We chose to eat inside. The inside and outside were a good size with several seating options, bars inside and outside and nice views. After being seated at our table we were greeted by our waitress who did a good job taking care of us while we were there. She gave us menus and asked what we wanted to drink. We all opted for water. She came back to take our order after a few minutes. We started with a pimento cheese and and crackers which was a good start. The crackers are crispy and the pimento cheese is really good. We also ordered chips and salsa. The salsa was tasty and the chips were warm and semi salty. We ordered the chicken nachitos which has Tinga chicken, beans, cheese, and jalapeños. That is one of my favorite parts of the meal. All of the combined ingredients make good nachos. For our meals One of my sons got the cheese macaroni and chicken. I tried a little bit and it was good. It was creamy, very cheesy, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. My son devoured it. My other son wanted steak tacos. We ordered him the steak taco and fundido skillet with everything on the side. He basically just wanted meat and tortillas. The waitress made a note and brought him out a plate with just the steak and tortillas. He enjoyed the meal and finished it. My husband ordered the Tejana Enchilada. The enchiladas came with Tinga chicken, cheese, and a fried egg on top with a side of rice and black beans. I tried it and it was really good. We both agreed that the Tinga chicken in the enchiladas is delicious. I ordered the steak taco and fundido. It comes with grilled flour tortillas, beef tenderloin, grilled veggies, grilled jalapeños, and a cheese fundido. It came in a skillet. The beef tenderloin was really good. It had a lot of flavor and it was tender. The veggies were also good I just wish there was more of them. Some of the fundido cheese was stuck and burnt to the skillet. It didn't separate. I had to cut it just to get some to put in my tacos. I think it hardened too much by the time they brought us our meal. Despite that it added flavor to the tacos. Overall it was a good place to go for a good meal. The restaurant is nice with lots of seating options, the service was good, and the food was really good. read more

This is a great place to come grab a bite to eat or get a drink! We sat outside on the patio. It's a lovely spot with a bar, TVs and heating lamps! They gave us a small scoop of pimiento cheese with 2 crackers. It's zesty and creamy and great to have an amuse-bouche before our appetizer came out. We loved the smashed guacamole with cotija cheese and pumpkin seeds ($11). The tortilla chips were so thin and perfectly roasted. So good! I ordered the Texas coast crispy fried shrimp ($22). It was perfectly cooked with lots of crunch. I think there were 8 shrimp. I loved the jalapeño tartar dipping sauce. I skipped the fries and for more black beans instead. Is Jack Allen's the most underrated place in Austin? We seriously love this place. We discovered this location over Christmas and have already been back 2 more times. It's about 20 minutes from Downtown and is on the way home from where my fiance works, so it's a good spot for us to meet for happy hour or dinner. We brought my parents here for dinner when they were visiting and we all had a great experience with our server Jake. He really did try to upsell EVERYTHING which was a little annoying especially since we frequent Jack Allen's and knew what we wanted. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and was a great server though. My mom loved the short rib special and the pimento cheese grits it was over were *chef's kiss*. On Mondays right now they have $5 frozen margs and half off starters. The regular and frozen margaritas are strong and delicious! My fav frozen marg in Austin! Sometimes I add a floater for only a couple dollars more. I tried the shrimp toastada bites for the first time and they were delicious! We always get the queso and entrees vary. I love the gulf redfish dinner and recently tried the shrimp enchiladas that were very good too. Parking is easy and the restaurant is always clean (including bathrooms). Jack Allen's has been our NYE tradition for almost 10 years. The service is very attentive, without being cloying. The restaurant is beautiful. I love sitting outside when we can. Even in the winter! The food can be hit or miss. The pimento cheese amuse bouche is always welcome. I could eat a vat of that cheese and a bowl of the crackers. The guacamole is unique and a perfect accomplishment to the hot chips and spicy salsa. My crispy salmon was just okay. The tomatillo salsa didn't really go with the salmon. It was too sour. And my salmon was slightly overcooked. The crab salad was overdressed, so the crab was lost. My wife always gets the pork medallions and it is consistently well seasoned. My son got the crab ravioli, and said it was good, but the cheese overpowered the crab. We finished the meal with the chocolate bomb. So rich and decadent. Make sure you get coffee too. As one approaches the magic age of 65, time seems to just whiz by. It's hard for me to fathom that my spouse and I have been enjoying the wonderful fare at Jack Allen's for many, many years. We frequent his restaurant at least every other week. We have our routine of arriving late afternoon, retirement home dinner time and posting up to the bar. We like the bar since their bartenders, inside and outside, are fine quality folks. They stay busy, engage in lively conversation when not and we connect with their lives and catch up from when we last visited. There are few folks that also enjoy the bar, since we run into regulars like us. Jack's has a great HH. Half-price appy's and discount on drinkies is great value. Without a doubt, we order the crunchy catfish everytime. Always prepared well, nice crunch not over cooked and a side dipping sauce that pairs very well. The Ravioli is filling and gooey cheesy yummy. Their chips are of the thick variety, almost like old skool Mexican restaurants of past Austin. I really like their chunky salsa, just the right amount of heat for me. Goes well with their thick queso and even grab their smashed guacamole. They also have a lot of tables which make it good for large groups. They do not have a typical breakfast readily available on the menu. You have to make it a la carte. I ordered pancakes and then added a side of eggs and bacon. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious and had that little extra sweetness from the powdered sugar. The bacon was crispy just the way I like it. The biscuits are also a highlight and taste amazing with just a little bit of butter. We have loved Jack Allen's for years and we especially miss the buffet that they had that was so delicious and had so many wonderful selections and was reasonably priced. So hope they bring that back. We were recently there and had their Baja fish tacos, which were good but they were really small and then we got their special which was a Tex-Mex sounding burrito, but it didn't taste Tex-Mex at all, we gave the leftovers to our lab mix who loves Mexican food she declined it. Over a month later--sent another email and after a follow-up email--I never received anything and never heard back. We're just a number to them. If you're looking for arrogant bar staff, this location is perfect.
