Our go to seafood and date spot! Always amazing service, reasonably priced & delicious food and the adjacent fish market a HUGE bonus. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

A Seafood Lover's Dream -- Fresh, Soulful, Unforgettable If you haven't yet discovered Mongers Market + Kitchen, consider this your sign to go -- and go soon. After just one visit, it's easy for me to understand why the buzz refuses to die down. The Food: Fresh, Chef-Driven, and Exceptional Mongers lives and breathes quality seafood, and it shows in every single dish. Daily fish specials, like the superb halibut with lemon tarragon beurre blanc sauce I had today, keep the menu feeling alive and seasonal, and the creatively curated menu selections are outstanding. Every dish feels intentional, ingredient-forward, and deeply satisfying. The Atmosphere: Casual Meets Upscale The space strikes a balance that isn't easy to pull off -- unobtrusively nautical-themed and cozy without veering into kitschy territory, rustic without feeling rough around the edges. It's the kind of place that works equally well for a relaxed date night or an intimate dinner with close friends. The warm lighting, close-set tables, and unhurried pace create an atmosphere that encourages you to slow down, order another round of oysters, and stay a while. Small touches--coastal blue tinted water glasses, discreet deco lamps on the exquisitely tiled bar--further convey the establishment's understated, Austin-aligned elegance. The Service: Knowledgeable and Genuinely Attentive The staff here know their seafood, and they're happy to talk about it. Whether you're debating between the crudo and the fish special or trying to navigate the market's fresh offerings, the team brings a friendly confidence and attentiveness that elevates the whole experience. They're the kind of servers who enhance your meal rather than simply facilitate it. The Market: A Bonus Worth Celebrating One of Mongers' most charming features is its retail market component, where you can take home fresh fish and prepared items on your way out. It's a thoughtful touch that extends the experience well beyond the table and speaks to the establishment's genuine love of great seafood in all its forms. On Pricing and Happy Hour Yes, Mongers leans toward the higher end of the price spectrum -- but for the quality on the plate, it's more than justified. That said, the ample lunch menu offers a bit of a price break and their happy hour is a smart way to sample what this kitchen does best at a more accessible price point, and it's become something of a local institution in its own right. Mongers Market + Kitchen isn't just a meal -- it's an experience that lingers long after the last bite. Don't miss it.

Amazing happy hour here! I already can't wait to go back for dinner. I suggested this place for a happy hour meeting since I had recently heard about it. The women I met had been there before since it is close by to their office. I am so glad we tried it! We arrived right when they opened at 4 and the restaurant is beautiful! The bar was already busy, but you can do happy hour at a table also. We were seated in the back and our server was great. I didn't catch his name, but he had a lot of tattoos. Very attentive and knowledgeable. I had the gimlet which was super refreshing on a hot day. We shared a few apps including the fried shrimp, shishito peppers (which each one was randomly super super spicy), poke tacos (2 in an order, but you can add one more if needed), and the star of the show - butter crab fingers?! I never heard of this, but my guest was a big fan and suggested them. It is the really good part of the crab claw already cracked and opened up. You just dip in the butter and eat it. OMG amazing. They served them with little buttered croistinis too. So good. There is no happy hour menu on their website, but they do have a happy hour menu at the restaurant with discounted drinks and appetizers. Free street parking right out front! I'll be back!

Monger's Kitchen has a great ambiance -- the decor is beautiful, and the adjoining market offers an impressive selection of fresh fish. Everything we ordered tasted fresh, and the service was friendly and attentive. The only reason I'm leaving out one star is that, for the price, the flavors could have been better. The crab cakes were a bit over-salted, and the entrées lacked depth. Still, it was an overall enjoyable dining experience and I'd come back for the atmosphere and freshness.

    Cioppino

Im from Houston. I love this place. I always get the cioppino. It is some of the best I've ever eaten. I wasn't sure if I wanted to start off with the seafood chowder. It also is a soup. I did. It was absolutely worth it

What a wonderful experience at Monger's last night for a birthday celebration. We all enjoyed our food and drinks. The service was great and the mood was the perfect blend of upscale and "neighbor gem". I can picture people coming here for a date night and sitting at the bar or coming with a bigger group and sitting at the table by the window, or like us, celebrating a birthday with a party of 4. We started off with the blue crab cake, which had generous portions of crab, and the shrimp, which my family thought was great. (I don't eat shrimp) We cleared the appetizer plates, to say the least. For our main dishes, we ordered the gumbo, fish & chips, sword fish, and fish tacos. My family loved their dishes! My fish and tacos were very crispy but lacked a little flavor so I asked for some more of the chipotle crema! For dessert, they had key lime meringue pie and a white cake with berry compote. We LOVED the key lime and the cake was unique and refreshing. *Parking: Free 2 hr street parking right in front of the restaurant.

We went to celebrate my mom's birthday. We made a reservation for early on a Friday evening so it wasn't too busy. We were seated quickly with the hostess bringing a bottle of water to the table. While a bit loud, the restaurant is a good size but with a cozy, coastal feel. We started by sharing the blue crab cake and buttermilk shrimp. I had a small but flavorful bite of the crab cake but I had didn't seem to have any big pieces of crab. My daughter had the opposite experience, getting a big piece of crab but not a lot of flavor. We both enjoyed it, just noted the difference between experience. The buttermilk shrimp was delicious. While served with some celeriac slaw, they are separated on the plate so the shrimp doesn't get soggy. For my main course, I chose the swordfish. The fish was firm and well-seasoned. The burst tomatoes and grit cake added flavor levels. I substituted fingerling potatoes for the roasted carrots. It liked the substitution but won't critique since it's not part of the dish. For dessert we got the olive oil cake with a salted berry compote and the Keylime pie tart. Admittedly the Keylime pie tart was everyone's favorite. It was well balanced between sweet and tart. Very refreshing. The olive oil oil cake with a very compost was good considerably less sweet and if you haven't had olive oil cake before the berry compound cut through that richness a good amount. But olive oil cake isn't to everybody's liking. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and I would suggest checking them out and seeing what fresh seafood they have on the menu.

3.5 stars! Mongers came as a recommendation and we thought we'd give it a shot. We had no reservations when we walked in but the FOH was able to get us a seat at the bar. Ambiance: Mongers' interior feels like a moody speakeasy, if it weren't for the large flat screen TVs showing sports and the fact that it smelled like if a wet fish market and an old wooden cabin that has been abandoned for exactly 25 years had a baby. Service: The bartenders were friendly but swamped. They were fantastic and did their absolute best however, and they were definitely what made our overall experience better. Food & Drinks: * 6 pieces of oyster - These were alright. Nothing stood out and while it didn't taste very fresh, it didn't taste old either. I do wish we were told as to what types of oysters we were served. Instead, we were just told that the oysters were paired and each 2 oysters were different types. We generally prefer going to Salt Traders if we have a hankering for oysters and after going to Mongers, Salt Traders has established itself as a better seafood restaurant, from our perspective. * Seasonal soft shell crab with Thai basil sauce - This was delicious. The crab was perfectly fried and the sauce was well-balanced. I did wish we had more sauce but, overall, this was a great dish. * Cioppino - My husband always gets cioppino at Salt Traders so it felt right that he ordered the cioppino at Mongers as well. They are very close in ranking but Salt Traders still wins this one as their cioppino has deeper & more layered flavors. * Swordfish - The cheddar poblano grit cake was exceptional and was easily the star of this dish. It paired really well with the perfectly cooked swordfish. * Whiskey sour - Delicious but the alcohol was weak. The bartender did ask me if I had a preferred whiskey but it feels like maybe he heard me say I didn't want any whiskey in my whiskey sour because the whiskey was nowhere to be tasted. My partner got a glass of chimay beer. Final thoughts: Personally, while Mongers was good, it just pales in comparison to Salt Traders in my humble opinion. Salt Traders' ambiance is cleaner, the food is just better and to top it all off, it's also a tad bit less costly. We likely would never go back to Mongers unless our car broke down, we're hungry and all the other restaurants in a 2 mile radius are closed.

It's so crazy how there are so many gems in Austin I still haven't discovered. I came to Mongers with my friends, and they'd been before so they had tons of good things to say. Service is awesome, and the restaurant is very vibey. It's perfect for a date night or a small gathering like the one we were having. We ordered a delicious bottle of wine and some oysters to share. The uni + tuna crudo was delicious, and I could've eaten maybe 10 pieces of just that alone. I adored my lobster risotto, which was one of the specials. My friend's fish was also so yummy, and the fish and chips absolutely knocked it out of the park. I would 11/10 come here again because service, food, vibes, and drinks were incredible.

The restaurant was really nice! We made a 7:15 reservation and didn't get seated until 7:30. For 2 we spent about $165 but for the quality of food and service I think it was worth it. We started off with the oysters and Crudo (10/10). The Dover sole was delicious and flavorful! Red snapper was good but nothing too crazy. Brussels sprouts were yummy!

Our server was Molly W. She was on top of her game. Always attentive to our table. Offered excellent advise on the meals and was spot on in every case. The food was awesome. There was three of us at the lunch hour, so we got the opportunity to try different things and each was superb. Crab & Shrimp Gumbo is excellent. It was plentiful with shrimp and was tasty. Scallops although a dinner item were provided to us on a bed of spinach. They were seared and tasted great. Good presentation. We had been trying several local places for scallops and this one was a clear winner. Lobster Roll was delicious. It tasted so fresh, as I closed my eyes, I could imagine myself off the coast of Maine eating on a fresh Lobster Roll. Linguine with mussels and chorizo. What a combination. Exquisite. Deserts included a Key Lime and Peach Shortcake. Both fresh and wonderful. We were happy to have found this place. It is definitely worth the visit. Most strongly recommend it.

    Lovely family style seating!

You can really taste the love that went into all this food. This is a food truck right across from HEB mueller in that swimming pool parking lot. I online ordered and picked up 3 different orders. 2 of them were not ready and she had me wait in my car and she brought them out to me so I didn't melt in the heat. Now the important stuff the menu... Ok who knew you could fry ribs?!?! They were on point. 4 to an order. Ribs were still moist, the batter had a crunch, and the meat fell off the bone. The dirty rice was the best dirty rice I've ever eaten. It was loaded up with seafood The smothered pork chops were 2 to an order and 2 sides served on a bed of white rice. Also very moist and great flavor, the Mac n cheese was not runny which I personally hate when it's just a runny mess, the fried cabbage also had a great flavor and it was still crunchy. The jerk chicken had great flavor but it was ordered as mild (not by me) and it definitely needed the heat/spice,the jumbalaya side was also tasty We also got the hot Cheetos boudin balls (I forgot to take a picture) they were huge and not spicy at first bite the heat sneaks up on you. The strawberry crunch cake was a big slice and reminded me of strawberry cake doughnut but that banana pudding was also probably the best banana pudding I've ever eaten. I felt all the portions were huge and prices were fair. This definitely not a food truck to sleep on. I've been told she makes great oxtails but they sell out fast.

The guy working was super friendly and helpful. Even took the trash bag to throw away the shells for us. We didn't ask but the one critique is to include crackers apart of the orders or simply pre crack the claws before you hand out the bag. Got creative with breaking the harder shells. The man cooking is incredibly sweet and came in clutch when I forgot to order seasoning. I was visiting from a region known for crab/seafood boils and was not disappointed! Crab tends to turn to shreds when it's overboiled, and I was EASILY pulling out nice, intact pieces from the shell, so no worries about that here. If you're in the area, definitely approach the truck even if it looks closed--worth it to double check!
