I genuinely think Kappo Kappo might be my top 5 favorite restaurants of all time, and my best friend who was visiting from NYC says it's her top 1. That's a pretty good summation sentence of our experience that we had here. We both love trying omakase and Michelin-star restaurants, so it's incredible that Austin has such a memorable and stunning restaurant because you'd think this was in NYC or another food capital of the world. Mark my words--they will get their star soon! I will say that in the beginning of our night, we were a bit annoyed because usually omakases start right on time and if not, then there is a waiting area for guests to sit, chat, and drink some wine. It felt weird to stand by the door for ~20 minutes as the previous seating was still finishing up their meal. If I could offer any suggestions to improve the dining experience, it would be to have a seating area or ensure that the seating times are spread out enough that the next seating time isn't waiting too long. Especially because our dinner was scheduled for 9:30PM and we hadn't eaten anything in preparation for the meal, we were more hangry than usual haha. Their menu is actually incredible, and my friend and I kept exclaiming how they couldn't miss after taking a bite of each course. The entire experience is designed really thoughtfully, and you can tell the brother-duo chefs (who happen to have spent a great deal of time in France) incorporated a lot of their professional background and working experience into the meal. Ingredients are guaranteed to be incredibly fresh and high quality, and despite us not eating much the entire day, this meal was VERY filling. I love that you can watch all of the sous chefs and head chefs present and prepare each of the courses, and they take the time to explain each course to you before serving. Timing of each course is also really great. They do have some tables available to dine at, but if the chef's counter is available, I HIGHLY recommend you book at the table. I can already tell the experience will be completely different if you are sitting at a table versus sitting at the chef's counter. My friend and I are already talking about the next time we are able to visit because the meal was really that incredible. Words cannot do Kappo Kappo justice, and I'm ecstatic that Austin has such a gem right in the heart of its downtown.

One of the most amazing restaurants in Austin! I am gluten free and the chefs were so accommodating! Everything we had was beyond good. The chefs but so much into this menu and it shows! The restaurant is decorated beautifully. The only thing is the chairs at the sushi bar start to hurt your back after a while. But again the food is so good you hardly notice.

What an amazing French-inspired omekase dinner experience this was! We ended up splurging, and two of us got the wine pairing and another got the sake. I also tried the strawberry Sakura cocktail and it was outstanding. Very personal experience at the chefs table, with each of the head chefs as well as their team members coming to speak to us about each course and the sommelier shared her knowledge about the sake and wines. It would not have been the same experience if we had been sitting at regular tables vs chefs table, so I encourage you to go when that seating is available. We loved the upscale modern vibe that drew upon Japanese influences. Not for the budget conscious. All in all, dinner, wine pairing, and cocktail was over $400 for one, but worth it if you're in the mood for a special treat.

Kappo Kappo is one of the best dining experiences in Austin hands down. It was definitely a true blend of french and japanese and not just sushi- in fact, only a little sushi. The restaurant is beautiful inside. There is a large sushi bar which has a full view of the kitchen and prep areas. There are also tables. I highly recommend sitting at the bar to watch and interact with the chefs and preparers. Only downside was that it was a little hard to hear each server because they all presented each dish and spoke at the same exact time. The cost with tax and tip is roughly $250 pp not including drinks. Yes, that's very expensive- but also had lots of expensive fish and wagyu cuts and certainly had excellent preparations (for Austin). The least expensive 6oz sake pour was $24 which turned into $34 with tax tip and fees- they let you choose your glass as well.

Exquisite, very well executed, and clean omakase. This place deserves a Michelin star. You can feel the Japanese French fusion of each course. Each course was delicious. Loved the wagyu dishes and the torched otoro.

Kappo Kappo is the new it-spot in town for the fancy meal that may as well have the potential to change the way you see food. Kappo, meaning to cut / cook, is rightly named after the twins Haru & Gohei's philosophy to showcase the many ways food can be prepared. Whether it's a snack, an aperitif, sushi, braised, grilled, or whatever it may be, you are bound to get a journey of Japanese cuisine prepared in a very technically French way. These two Japanese chefs hail from France and spent a good 7 or so years in Japan with a love of both specialized and local ingredients executed in ways learned from both countries. Examples of the tasting menu include salmon mi cuit, a gougère with A5 wagyu and caviar, pecan-based yakimiso to pair with the most tender A5 wagyu, and a chawanmushi that beats the rest in Austin (even places with a higher price tag). Whatever you get out of the 11 or so courses are bound to be delicious and a perfect blend of French and Japanese roots. Cocktails run a little pricey, but they are made with a great balance. There is a sake or wine pairing with a very fair price to add onto. The surroundings look out of an Architectural Digest magazine with an appreciation for great serveware and lighting that could make me believe it's some type of Noguchi lamp. The service is impeccable while the two are warm, friendly, conversational, educational, and excited to share the menu with you. Expect to see this place on everyone's recommendations list soon!

Japanese and American Wagyu, assorted condiments, rice, and miso soup

While I would love to give them stars based purely on the taste of food and the brothers' personalities, coming to Kappo Kappo is an expensive endeavors that competes with so many other Omakase experiences in town, and at this very moment, it's not quite a 5-star experience to me (YET). To get to the point, the food is good, technique shines through, there's variety which I appreciate, and I was actually full afterward (which isn't always the case with Omakase). There's a good mix between lighter and heavier, of fish and meat, of savory and sweet. We got fresh fish, but we also got Wagyu, we got rice, and we even got soup. Oh, and there're vegetables! What else could you ask for in an Asian meal? The atmosphere and set up are where I hope they continue refining and addressing. Music was way too loud and gives of a hotel bar vibe. It's like the bar outside just continues into what's supposed to be an intimate space and experience. Synchrony with the flow needs work, they can't pause to tell everyone each course they're serving because it's just so damn loud. The space is also interesting. It's somewhere in the middle of intimate and not so intimate. There's the counter, but there're also tables in the back (similar to the set up of their sando pop up, just more glamorous). To bring food to those in the back requires the chefs/servers to go all the way around the bar, which cuts into efficiency and make things look chaotic in a relatively small space. Maybe that's the vibe they're wanting to achieve, but the space itself might be a smidge small for all the people moving about and all the noises. They're also very new and will need time to iron out all the kinks - hopefully we'll support them enough so that we'll get to a point that this is one of the top omakase experiences in Austin. I would definitely still recommend that you give Kappo Kappo a try and form your own opinions because the good (the food along with the brothers' experience and personalities) certainly outweigh the not-yet-good.

What a treat to try Kappo Kappo on the early days! Unfortunately we came when they were down some cooks so it did feel like the chefs were frantically serving. It felt less like an omakase experience and more like a fast service to get all of the items out. The music was also extremely loud so it was challenging to hear the chefs. Despite the ambiance mishaps, the dish's spoke for themselves. The item that felt out of place was the brown butter rice. It was randomly served after miso soup and was quite overpowering. It didn't complement the Wagyu course. I loved the persimmon cake dessert. Over time I think they will perfect the flow and ambiance so I would give it a few months!

A new Japanese restaurant with an incredible omakase experience. A beautiful fusion of Japanese sushi and French influence--every dish was stunning and packed with flavor. The only minor thing I noticed was their dessert pieces were too sweet and was just ok to me.

What an all around amazing restaurant! The food was sensational. The subtle choices in flavors and presentation take the whole dining experience to the next level. You truly feel hosted and the two chefs as they take you through the multiple imaginative and delicious courses. I can't wait to go again and have a whole new journey. Absolutely do NOT sleep on the place.

Seasonal bites

Kappo Kappo is a Japanese-French fusion omakase that somehow manages to be creative, elevated, and completely delicious. Course after course, I was just sitting there thinking, how is every dish this good??Truly every single plate was incredible. I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite or even a least favorite because nothing missed. I felt genuinely satiated and full. The chefs absolutely delivered. If I had to suggest one improvement, it would be the timeliness of the cocktail/beverage service, but that is such a small note in an otherwise flawless night. What an incredible concept and backstory. Worthy of all praise.

I absolutely love the vibe of this place--it's definitely a high-end Mediterranean restaurant, perfect for special occasions. What really stood out was how beautifully everyone was dressed; it added to the upscale, elegant atmosphere of the entire space. The restaurant offers both indoor seating and a beautiful outdoor seating area, which really elevates the overall experience. The outdoor space, in particular, adds to the charm and makes it a great spot for a relaxed yet upscale evening. Since reservations weren't available, we decided to arrive early, expecting a long wait. Luckily, being a Sunday evening, it wasn't too crowded, and we were seated within about 20 minutes. For drinks, I ordered a Tender Robot Hazy IPA, while my husband went with the Verdant Mai Tai. I was a bit disappointed to learn they only serve canned beer and don't offer draft options, as I personally prefer draft beer and am not a big fan of cocktails, which tend to be too sweet for my taste. For the main course, I had the Heirloom Chicken Thighs, and my husband ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes. Both dishes were cooked to perfection--flavorful, well-seasoned, and the meat was incredibly tender. That said, the portion sizes felt a bit small considering the price point. We ended the meal with the Sticky Date Cake, and it was hands down the best I've ever had--rich, perfectly balanced, and absolutely delicious. Overall, we had a great experience. Between the beautiful ambiance, flavorful food, and exceptional service, it's a place I'd definitely return to. I'm giving it 4 stars mainly because of the lack of draft beer and the smaller portion sizes for the price, but it's still a fantastic spot worth visiting.

What a wonderful dinner in a beautiful downtown restaurant…read more This visit we decided to just do small plates. A highlight was the tempura lobster bao. If we'd tried this first, I might have kept ordering more until I was stuffed. PEI oysters fresh, well shucked, a great start. Parker house rolls were unexpectedly huge and hard to stop eating. The rolls filled any appetite holes in an appetizer grazing dinner. Shrimp cocktail, with atomic cocktail sauce that found its way onto some bites of rolls. Stone crab, one large each, was fun to try and tasty, but a little sloppy work. Kudos that the wait staff brought fresh how towels each time we dove into a messier course. Great service, great background music, excellent wait staff. Wife described the meal as perfect and I completely agree. Looking forward to returning soon.

We split the hot and crunchy shrimp, the lux burger and the carrot cake. The kitchen was nice enough to split the burger, which was absolutely delicious. The bartender raved about the carrot cake. Even though it wasn't my favorite (way too much cream cheese and not enough cake), he did have the foresight to order us the petit version versus the full size (cool concept and not that common). They have decent wine menu, but not as extensive as one might expect for a fine seafood establishment. The pricing is about 3 times what you could expect to pay retail. Overall the service and food were great and the bar seating has great mood lighting, both on the surface of the bar itself and even the backlights in the menus.

It's delicious! Fries - 10/10. Perfectly thin and crispy. Get the caviar ranch! Fried Green Tomatoes - 10/10. We ordered these expecting just a normal appetizer but they were so much better than that! We returned with my parents who agreed they were phenomenal. Tuna Tartar - 9/10. Super flavorful and the wontons provide a good crunch. Mozzarella Sticks - I give them a 8/10 but my husband gives them a 10/10. Lobster roll - this was just fine to us and not worth $40 in our opinion, but we're also not huge lobster people. Cocktails - 7/10. I liked their central market martini a lot on another visit, but this recent time I got a regular dirty martini and it came out with so much ice. After some waiting I got it strained and it was much better. Ambiance is great too! Comfy place, and I love the paper on the tables.

The wine pairing felt like a solo cup kegger that tasted like magic and never ran dry. Above all of this, our host and waitress for this adventure was one of the best I've ever had. Mind blown.     People, the right people, qualified, talented, A players only will make or break a business. It doesn't matter if it's code or plates of wagyu, the wrong person is never worth it. Our care taker flawlessly explained every little detail of every single component of each dish and pairing. I've been to numerous spots across the country including multiple Michelin starred establishments and she was easily a top 10 performer. So much so, that at one point, I stopped the experience to tell her. I understand & appreciate how hard that job is, & how more often than not the 8th deadly sin entitlement makes her life a living hell. She didn't believe me at first. Even though I might've missed the mark for my orders, I don't really see myself coming back unless I'm particularly curious about something. The Wagyu Tartare was decent. For beef tartare, I look sweet, juicy bites with a crunchy texture and a signature finish. Hestia mostly delivered in that aspect, but it was missing that signature finish like some acidity or a standout ingredient. I actually recommend the Napa Cabbage. It looks like a timidly sized plate, but the surface area gave me a satisfactory amount of bites. I also enjoyed the sharpness from the sauce and fermentation. However wasn't happy with the entrée and dessert. The red ranger chicken was quite small, bland, and priced at $48. I didn't taste the chilli in the honey, and the honey itself was incredibly mild. The sourdough ice cream was exactly as the name implied. The quality of the ice cream itself was okay, but the flavor definitely leaned on the unique side. I got it because it was different, so I'm not particularly upset with the dessert. All in all, like the many other places that I've been to in Austin, the platings definitely outshined the flavours. And these price points don't make a compelling argument to comeback.
