For us to be in 2026, do better. I was fooled by the social media accounts of Austin. While I understand the food scene in Austin is no where near as good as Houston, but pleasseee for the love of god, work on customer service. Especially at a sushi place. Both waiters barely acknowledged me When it was time to order, the waiter didn't even bother to ask me what I wanted. After my friend had ordered, he had walked away. And I looked at my friend saying it loud, "he just completely skipped me". Like damn. When he was close by, I flagged him and said "You skipped me" *in a very very nice voice* and he had responded "You didn't fill out your form, I had figured you were still looking". Look, I get that, but still ask???? Like "are you still looking or are you ready?" Asked my friend if she wanted more sushi but didn't bother to ask me. Helluuuuur??? I got the 4 set handroll Toro Salmon Yellowtail (daily special) Crab The texture of the nori felt so old that when you take your first bite, you're tearing it away. Versus a crispy one bite. Bite after bite, felt like a disappointment. After my friend had been asked for anymore sushi, she happily said no. And I quote "I don't want to pay for anymore mid sushi" You're better off getting the nigiri or sashimi as the size of the fish is bigger than most. But hey, I didn't get asked for more and I agreed, my friend was right. The tip reflected on the service and I hate that, but if you give shitty service, don't expect a 15% tip. I said what I said.

A hidden gem for date night in West Austin! It's a cozy, 18-seat spot with an intimate omakase vibe where chefs prepare the food right in front of you. Because it's first-come, first-served, you'll want to get there early because it can get packed. The food is worth it every time regardless. Don't skip the lobster handroll or different pieces of nigiri. Plus, their rice is next level and uniquely seasoned compared to other spots. A must tryyyy

10/10 when the owner/chef stepped in the Wagyu piece was better than I've ever had it from here. I ordered 4. Huge pieces of nigiri.

Oh, my gosh. This place, hands down best handroll bar I've ever been to. Service was immaculate and informational. The lady that served us was very nice and made sure we understood their menu and also provided us with information regarding today's specials and items not stated on their menu. They use matcha infused rice for all their creations. It really does bring different flavors and aroma when paired with their fresh fishes. Im not a handroll person but their handrolls were delicious. 10/10. What really blew me away was their nigiri options. The price at first was hefty, but after seeing the nigiris I've ordered, I can understand the pricing on that. The nigiri's were HUUGEEE! Took me maybe 3 big bites to eat one. The wagyu melted in my mouth, the unagi was delightful, salmon belly was to die for and their mackerel sushi was sooooooooo smooth. Nigiris were a 1000000/10. I will definitely be back whenever im in Austin again. If you haven't tried it yet, I recommend that you do!

This place is in the same plaza as the Grove. It's super small and cute inside. All of the seating wraps around where they make the rolls. We were in and out and it's a great spot for lunch. The hand rolls were extremely fresh and I was impressed. I would definitely go back. I got the salmon hand roll and the unagi. Both were awesome. 2 filled me up and I was good to go!

First time visit this past weekend. This will be a two part review. The service was great, the place very clean, oddly for a Saturday, we were the only customers at the time ( two more couples rolled in while we were dining. As noted in a non descriptive location and all seating is around a raised counter with bar stool seating. As noted the hand rolls are not ice cream cone shaped (Temaki) but rather done in a standard "log" shape. An extra treat was provide in the form of a fried salmon skin roll, at the end of our dining. Very tasty! We tried the Tuna and Yellowtail hand rolls - they were kind enough to cut them in half for us. We also had the Lady Gaga roll, and the Agadashi Tofu. All had a great presentation and were quite fresh and tasty, though perhaps they could dial back the sweetness in the sushi rice a tad. We will definitely return and I will update the review at that time. Note this is for the location on FM620. Also I forgot to mention, the meal comes with miso soup with seaweed and clams. While I appreciate being offered the soup, it was, to my taste and my dining companion, not very good.

Overall I enjoy coming to Yuki, especially since it's close to my office. However since it is bar seating only and the seats are limited, coming with a party of 3 or more means having to wait for consecutive spots to open up or split up your group. I usually order the 4 hand roll combo which is just enough for me. They taste good and are priced fairly.

As a really big fan of Handies Douzo in Houston, I have been very interested in finding a good handroll place in the Austin area. Yuki was a good experience, though parking was very tricky, and the prices are higher. The rolls were good, some of the comments on here say they don't like the crab roll, but it was actually one of my favorites. It's at least reasonable if you just stick to a three or four roll combo, the individual pieces are priced too high for what they are. That said it's a nice vibe and I would probably return if I found myself in the area.

Unexpectedly intimate spot in a wet lake strip mall. We had a delicious meal, the fish was incredibly fresh and well prepared. I thought the nigiri was more exciting, the hand rolls really are just sushi rolls with the one item in them, but the nigiri was beautifully prepped and delicious (although quite large!) I also loved the clam miso soup, I have never had that before. Service was attentive and we had a nice time! Recommend!

Randomly picked from Yelp to pop in for lunch, best decision of the day. Hubby and I split the 4 hand roll (Salmon, Tuna, Crab and Yellowtail) they cut them in half for us. Then we ordered Nagiri (Salmon, Toro, Yellowtail and Tuna) very pretty presentation. Don't be intimidated by the prices everything is good portions. Hubby and I were content splitting all the above.

Cute, cute decor. Our server was awesome. He was very attentive and knowledgeable when we had questions. Pickled wasabi - I will never be without it again! The shrimp roll was weird. I failed to get a picture of the lobster roll and the avocado roll sadly. They were huge and unwieldy. The server said they aren't allowed to cut the rolls but he brought us a plate and a butter knife so we could cut the rolls ourselves. The salmon roll was yummy. The avocado and the lobster rolls were delicious.

This was a cute place with nice staff and very clean. The service was fast. For the price and what you get, this is a nice eatery. We ordered sashimi, nigiri and hand rolls. Honestly, like it's name says, it's a place for hand rolls. I'm used to the cone shape hand rolls but these were more like round rolls. They were easy to eat and very cute. The sashimi and nigiri were fresh but this isn't really a proper sushi place. If you're looking for sushi like Uchi, this will fall short. If you're looking for tasty hand rolls and laid back atmosphere, this would be the place for that. I gave it 5 stars if you go for what they specialize in and that's hand rolls.

Visit Date: August 29, 2024 I've been in a weird phase where I don't like eating raw seafood for fear of food-borne illness. But sometimes you need to leave your comfort zone and try new things. That was my experience at YUKI. I got the veggie handroll combo and two extra rolls in the shrimp katsu and masago. I thought the masago was the egg one, but come to find out it is fish roe! I still ate the whole thing. My mom ordered a couple 4-piece sashimis for us to share (including chu toro, amberjack), and I tried two. I guess I haven't been used to the texture of fresh fish, so those weren't my favorite but I could still taste how good they are & how good a deal YUKI offers. The overall quality could still be better, as according to my parents the original chefs no longer work at this location because they are helping establish the new one. Next time they suggest coming here, I won't say no AND I'll order actual sushi, not veggies.

Good pieces of fish! I also enjoyed the topping on each of them adding a nice twist to every bite. While it's not the most unique or blow your socks off quality, it is a good nigiri mix. The roll was also nice with a nice garlic crunch element layered in with the salmon and sushi rice. I like that the sushi rice is subtly sweet and tangy! The sunomono salad was pretty nice, but the sauce it came with was wonderful, especially paired with the nigiri and sushi roll. Since the sushi roll is basic, the sauce adds a nice sweet soy flavor. They also provided ponzu sauce which was more on the salty side. Overall, I enjoyed the takeout omakase box, but I don't think it's something I'd come back for until I have tried the other sushi spots in Austin.

I've heard so many great things about this restaurant, and we finally made it there over Memorial Day weekend. It absolutely lived up to the hype. This place is truly impressive. You can tell every detail was thoughtfully designed and intentional, from the stunning interior design and décor to the incredibly creative menu. What I loved most was how the dishes stayed rooted in authentic Chinese flavors while adding creative, and sometimes surprising, twists. Everything we ordered was excellent. The Lobster Cheese Puff was a huge hit: crispy on the outside and packed with flavor inside. The Salmon Sashimi Mango Salad was incredibly fresh, bright, and crunchy. The sautéed pea shoots were so tender and fresh. And the Lamb Chop with Spicy Miso Sauce was absolutely unforgettable. One of the biggest surprises for me was the Veggie Fried Rice. As a native Chinese, I've had countless fried rice dishes over the years, but I've honestly never had one prepared quite like this before. It was so flavorful and unique. For dessert, the Chocolate Soup Dumpling was both creative and delicious, and the bunny-shaped sorbet was almost too cute to eat. Our waiter, Jake, was also incredibly attentive and helpful throughout the evening. He made our first experience there even more special. It had been a while, but I noticed immediately something was "off." Bottom line, everything was just sloppy and not as fresh as it always had been in the past. I chalked it up to delivery versus dine in. There was something in the back of my mind though that told me that Chef Sun would never have let those items leave the restaurant. Fast forward to in-house dining again. Visible wear and tear on the restaurant interior (looks old). A few plates were even chipped. I mean they butchered the tuna. Knife skills are very important in sushi. Many chefs train for years. Flavor was a-okay with all the house sauces, but for 20 bucks it left me wanting more. Gyoza was greasy and chewy. Rice in California Roll was on the dry side. Katsu was also quite dry and lacked flavor. Admittedly the vegetable tempora was pretty tasty. Not surprisingly, I was informed that the restaurant had been purchased by new owners quite some time ago. All of the changes are so apparent, and none are positive. Quality control and pride of stellar presentation and service has disappeared. Tadashi is now (sobbing) sadly just another subpar sushi restaurant with much higher prices than most. Goodbye my old friend. I have no intentions of returning. :(

Loro was one of the highlights of our trip to Austin. It's an excellent spot for large groups…read morebecause there's something for everyone. The menu has a great variety of Asian-inspired barbecue, smoked meats, shareable plates, and sides, so everyone in our group found multiple dishes they loved. Everything we ordered tasted incredibly fresh, and the quality really stood out. The combination of barbecue and Asian flavors was unique without feeling overdone. Although I would reorder everything again, these are the following things that I still dream about: crunchy sweet corn fritters, char siew pork belly, smoked shishito queso, and smoked butcher's cut. The laid-back atmosphere made it easy to relax, share food, and enjoy good conversation. If you're visiting Austin with friends or family and want a place that offers delicious food, plenty of variety, and a fun, casual vibe, Loro is an easy recommendation. We'll definitely be back.

This is really disappointing because we genuinely love Loro and eat here pretty regularly…read more I currently have a hip injury, so we ordered curbside pickup. After receiving the notification that our order was ready, I waited in the designated curbside spot for about 10 minutes. Eventually I had to painfully get out of the car, only to find our food sitting on the pickup shelf while employees were standing around talking. The much bigger issue came when we got home. We were eating dinner while watching a movie in dim lighting when I happened to notice my boyfriend's chicken was completely undercooked. It was still pink throughout, with some areas even appearing bloody. By the time we realized it, he had already eaten quite a bit of it. He ended up spending the night very sick. Undercooked chicken is a serious food safety issue, not just a quality issue. Mistakes happen, but serving raw chicken can make people extremely ill, and that's exactly what happened here. I'm posting this because I hope management takes it seriously. We have always enjoyed Loro, which is why this experience was so shocking. I hope they improve both their food safety practices and their curbside service so this doesn't happen to someone else.
