4.5 stars Loved that we could just walk in. We came during the holiday week so there weren't many ppl here. Loved the hot dog and sushi pieces. Each dish was quite creative.

Konbini has been on my list for a long time. I finally came by a little after it officially opened its space. Our party opted to sit in the Papercut space but we pretty much ordered the whole menu to sample and share. I thought that the food was pretty good overall. There were some highlights with others I probably would not order again. The cucumber salad was better than the pickles. I was expecting a Japanese sweet pickle but these were more like the western jarred pickles you would put in a Blood Mary. The cucumber salad though was a refereshing smashed cucumber salad. The Hot Dog was better than the Crab Salad sandwich. The Hot Dog had an asian flare with a lot of umami. The Crab Salad was a bit one note, especially texturally. My favorite non-sushi bite of the night was the Tofu Crisp. It was cold yet had a delicious spice and crunch from the crispy salsa macha. The aguachile was also refreshing and delicious with the citrus. I ended up trying 5 nigiri pieces, with the Kinmadai as my favorite. If you order the items as sashimi, it comes plated sauced and seasoned so you basically get the flavor experience without the rice from the nigiri option. I would definitely come back for an impromptu sushi snack, especially since it doesn't seem too busy.

The best of the best from the same team as Tare. Get one of everything and you won't be disappointed!! They have the same drinks (for now) as the front bar, and they will soon have a working bar in the back.

100/10 experience. Food and drinks were out of this world. Staff recommendations were on point, and I love how they explained the flavor profiles in each item. Can't wait to go back!

Walk to the back of papercut to find Konbini, a full sushi bar and izakaya. The menu has several carefully prepared pieces of nigiri or sashimi which are delicious, and they also have Sandos if you're looking to fill up for less money. They're open late and don't take reservations, making this a really unique spot to try here in Austin. You can order their food from within papercut too if you prefer the bar vibe.

I came here also because I had a deal from the AACHI fundraiser they are doing this month. Ordered the Spicy Salmon toast and the Egg, Bacon, and Sausage toast. Both were amazing and had tons of flavor. The bread is soft and fluffy. I also got a plate with Chicken Kara-age. Not too bad, I personally would stick to the Katsu. The Chicken Kara-age was not as crispy as I would like it. Also got royal milk tea, which was lightly sweetened. This place does get packed, so if you like to try this place, avoid the right before noon crowd or go early morning or later in the afternoon. The restaurant itself is small, but they do have some outdoor tables as well. The hard part about sitting outside is if you order drinks, I don't know if you can hear your name being yelled out while you are outside, so I would suggest having someone inside to grab your drink if you order any or check inside after a while to see if your drinks are ready.

Sunday evening wasn't too busy and we were able to have the entire seating facing the window to ourselves. You order off a small menu or choose the omakase. They also have specials for the day. We ordered one nigiri of most of the options and it was a mixed experience in taste and quality. The salmon, tuna, hamachi, and albacore had top notch smooth and buttery textures. The flavors were good, not fishy, but fresh and delicious. The amount of wasabi was perfect for me - very up front and tasted like real wasabi. The rice was nice and vinegared, held together well, and was a good amount for the piece of fish on top. Unfortunately the uni was awful. It tasted like it had soaked up the flavor of the box. It tasted stale and had a very unpleasant and lingering aftertaste. The Wagyu was very chewy and not as pleasant to eat as I would have expected from a Wagyu. Prices are a bit high to go back again for this level of quality and experience, but some of the sushi pieces were a very nice mouthful.

I may have forgotten what each course was as I was enveloped in learning, tasting and getting to know the staff, but I took photos and cannot explain how excited I am to go back! The 15 course omakase was a great choice and I got so full! I would have to really work up to the 24 course but it is not out of the question in my future! Thanks y'all for making my date night perfect!

Both of the sandos were perfect. The wagyu beef sando had a little bit more flavor but it was slight and both are worth trying. Every roll was enjoyable and I felt like each had a little twist that really made the flavors explosive, like a shaved onion or a crispy puff on the side of the roll. The service was stellar and they were easy to book on OpenTable I also tried the green tea mocktail and found it to be light and refreshing and I was happy that it wasn't super sweet My two favorite items were: 1. The Edamame - which were charred in a way that I feel like I've never experienced it before and had such great flavor. 2. The scallop roll had a thinly sliced shaved truffle on top that made the roll simple yet out of this world. Shout out to the manager who came by just to check in. I always think that is such a sweet gesture.

Because of the influx of so many amazing new sushi spots opening up in town. I forget to visit my old favorite spots and neglecting tenten was a big mistake. Their happy hour is absolutely one of the best deals there is and on Tuesdays they have $10 rolls all night which is an absolute steal. I particularly went there on a Wednesday to try their A5 Wagyu sandwich, but because I hadn't been there in so long, I wanted to have all the rolls that sounded so amazing on the happy hour menu that I couldn't even get to the sandwich. Every single role we had was absolutely off the charts. They even had a Toro role on happy hour for $10 which was such a steal. The service and ambience was also as usual impeccable. Can't wait to come back here to try the sandwich on another Wednesday

Tucked away inside a mini golf course and hidden behind a bookshelf, the whole experience has this playful speakeasy energy before you even sit down. Once you step inside, the interior immediately transports you to the late‑night streets of Tokyo--moody lighting, intimate vibes, and that cinematic feeling like something special is about to happen. There are 6 seats. My boyfriend and I had such a fun, personal experience. The staff were incredible--warm, engaging, and genuinely excited to guide us through each course. The food itself was delicious, beautifully crafted, and felt customized in a way that made the night feel unique to us. It's the kind of omakase that doesn't take itself too seriously while still delivering seriously good dishes. I also highly recommend the sake and cocktail pairing. The bartender customizes it based on your preferences. I told her my favorite drink is an espresso martini and she made this really fun espresso, strawberry latte concoction. There is also a special house sake with an homage to the owner's cat. I love those personal details. It's always a great time at Toshokan, and I'll definitely be back again. PS it's a great place to celebrate your birthday or special occasion! They broke out a guitar to serenade me lol

Nice, quaint chefs counter space inside and I believe the idea is to give a traditional Japanese local restaurant feel so the space is designed to just be big enough. This used to be a bedroom when the building was a hostel. I was pleasantly surprised when Nicole, upon checking me in remember who I was and welcomed me back. Not only that the chef did as well! They are both amazing and so full of knowledge. After being sat they go through several things about the history, items in the restaurant, and then drink service is offered and the meal begins. You get to select the chop stick holder and chop sticks you'd like to use. I asked, they have at least a dozen I believe different chop stick holder options. They also do s personalized wood coaster with your name burnt into it. The selections were amazing with each one having a unique flavor that melted in your mouth. I added the sake and cocktail pairing which Nicole does amazing. I let her know I still kept the origami crane she last time was still on my counter at home. They are toooo damn cut to just throw away. I mean look at them! Anybody during the service they are interactive with everyone engaging in different conversations. With such an intimate space it's great to get introduced to others and's have as great evening.
