Came for brunch on a Saturday. It was slightly crowded by noon, but we were able to grab a table outside. We ordered the chicken kara-age plate and a fish sandwich from the specials menu. Both were great. The side salad was fresh and the meat was crispy. We also tried two toasts: the nori tama and honey butter. The toasts were very fluffy and delicious. I thought all the items were unique and well-executed. I would definitely come back to try more.
Came here for a quick bite and was so impressed. Had a tofu egg dish(can't remember the name) but was so delicious. Filling but didn't leave me feeling stuffed. Then came by again for a coffee. Their blue latte tastes like a blueberry muffin! Super good and device is so quick and friendly
You're not coming here for the food, you're coming here for the vibes. Sa-Tén is a Japanese owned café that makes food just good enough to spark interest, but the lounge feel in an increasingly fun area is the real pull. It's like Japanese Starbucks in that you can get a decent meal and a drink and join others isolated on their computer or just stopping in for a quick chat and go. Avoid the curry as it's very underwhelming, but the sides are pretty good. The tofu is the best protein I tried if you're willing to not order a meat. Parking is ample.
Initially, I was supposed to meet a friend at Sa-Tén-Canapy. GPS Alert: My GPS kept taking me to the Springdale Food Park, which appears to be a bike tour location. Please note that Sa-Tén is in an industrial-style complex and can be easily missed. The anchor point is a large green Canopy sign. After circling a few times, my friend and I started to meet at Stargazer instead for coffee. After having coffee at Stargazer, we decided to grab breakfast "to-go" at Sa-Tén as my Art contest start time was nearing. It is literally diagonally across the street from Stargazer. Sa-Tén means "coffee lounge" or "café" in Japanese. It traditionally refers to a relaxed neighborhood coffee shop...a place meant to be a welcoming community space. The coffee shop is small with wraparound glass windows emitting an abundance of light. Sa-Tén's interior is unassuming...really non-distinct. My friend ordered the last salmon toast, however, since she had previously tried it, she allowed me to have the last one. Such a thoughtful and kind friend...she ordered the bacon, egg and cheese toast instead. Let me just say this salmon toast was the bomb diggity. Our server described this breakfast item as salmon on white toast...what a major understatement! Our toast was even larger than Texas toast with a brioche taste and perfectly toasted. Quite honestly, I could have just eaten the toast all by itself. The salmon and cheese enhanced the taste. What a spectacular discovery! My friend was pleased with her selection as well. I will seek out Sa Tén when I'm on the East Side again.
Went here over the weekend since it's been a while since I went back. Still wish they made improvements to the parking lot, but I know it's not on them. I came here also because I had a deal from the AACHI fundraiser they are doing this month. Ordered the Spicy Salmon toast and the Egg, Bacon, and Sausage toast. Both were amazing and had tons of flavor. The bread is soft and fluffy. I also got a plate with Chicken Kara-age. Not too bad, I personally would stick to the Katsu. The Chicken Kara-age was not as crispy as I would like it. Also got royal milk tea, which was lightly sweetened. This place does get packed, so if you like to try this place, avoid the right before noon crowd or go early morning or later in the afternoon. The restaurant itself is small, but they do have some outdoor tables as well. The hard part about sitting outside is if you order drinks, I don't know if you can hear your name being yelled out while you are outside, so I would suggest having someone inside to grab your drink if you order any or check inside after a while to see if your drinks are ready.
Visited twice, once for coffee and another for take out. Both ordered online and was ready soon after! Pick up was super easy and everyone is super friendly. Loved the latte ($7) and would come back for it and the Anchovy Garlic Toast (comes as a side with the tofu platter)! However, was a little sad at the rest of the meal for $17. The tofu was nice and crunchy and went really well the sauce. Felt like it was more of a toppings instead of the focus of the dish
You know when you only have one niece and you tell them they're your FAVORITE niece...By default this is true no matter how much it really is true. When at Canopy, Sa-Tén is the only food, drink and coffee option so it's my FAVORITE! It's a very cute shop and shares the parking lot with Canopy so there's plenty of spots. Staff was very friendly here and there is a lot of indoor & outdoor seating. During Open Canopy the line gets long and the seats get full, but the turnover is fairly fast. It's a cute space with kissaten (Japanese coffee shop) vintage, minimalistic vibes, but also some flare with kitschy trinkets abound fitting their squirrel theme. I only did caffenation hydration here and was pleased with my black cold brew. Great taste and didn't break the bank. Word on my street is the toasts are fabulous - next time! Such a cute shop that I will absolutely be back to!
Japanese inspired cafe with a really unique menu. Ordered an iced vanilla late and their chicken and gravy toast plate with the gravy on the side. Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly.

I ordered a fall/winter menu drink: the cinnamon pecan latte (12 oz, $6 with oat milk) it was disappointing and didn't have much of a matcha OR pecan taste at all. Drinks here are usually great so I'll give grace this may have been a bad day for them... The food menu has a variety of options. I decided to build a plate ($17) the tofu was phenomenal!! Super flavorful and crisped to perfection, the green sauce on top was nice as well. The "curry" was awful and tasted watery. The plate was not worth the price. If they provided more tofu and less rice it would make more sense. Counter service was very friendly.
Sa-Tén is easily one of my favorite coffee shops in Austin. I've probably been 15 times if you include their old location on Airport, and it never disappoints. If they have the seasonal black sesame latte, get it. It's incredible. Nutty, almost like peanut butter, and not overly sweet. Their matcha is also some of my favorite in the city. It's smooth, balanced, and doesn't even need sweetener. The food is just as good as the drinks. The toasted milk bread is a must. It's simple but perfect. I've also had most of the lunch items, including the curry, potato salad, and chicken katsu, and all of it has been excellent. You really can't go wrong. It's the kind of place where you can grab a coffee and end up staying for a full meal without regret. The vibe also keeps me coming back. It has this effortlessly cool, Japanese-inspired aesthetic without feeling try-hard. The music is always great, like "hold on, I need to Shazam this." There's a loose squirrel theme, which I don't fully understand it, but it somehow works and just adds to the charm of the place. It's located in a complex with art galleries, so the whole area feels creative and interesting. Great coffee and food and cool atmosphere. I wish I lived closer or they would open a second location.

I originally wanted to try their brunch items, but they were sold out and brunch was just ending, so we went with the build-a-plate option instead. At first, I thought the pricing was a bit high, but once the food arrived, the portions were generous. I loved the chicken karaage, and the kale salad was fresh and refreshing. I'm not usually a big fan of mac salad, but I thought theirs was decent. I would definitely come back to try the brunch menu, even though it is on the pricier side. I do like the build-your-own bowl option and think it's worth trying. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to visit, but if I'm in the area, I'd stop by again. I also loved the décor and overall vibe. The drink menu looked unique, with fun flavor combinations and specials you don't typically see at cafés.
The Vietnamese coffee here was really good. The breakfast toast were okay. Unfortunately that was all they had for a breakfast selection cause it still left me hungry. The toast is only a good choice if you want a small bite. Though a bit pricey for what it is... I do want to try their other food items i saw online. Nice indoor and outdoor space. It's in a nice art area where you can take a quick stroll on a nice day.
Not my favorite matcha in Austin - I'd like to come back & try again / try some of their other food items. Really lovely place, both inside and out. Well tucked away & friendly service. Unfortunately, the matcha was mid-tier quality compared to some others in the area. Will stick to food & coffee next time

Came here for breakfast around nine in the morning beautiful quiet place plenty of parking indoor and outdoor seating. They serve coffee and food all day. I definitely recommend this place and put it on my list to show my out-of-town friends. Only negative thing I noticed was service interaction, even when I said thank you the interaction felt cold. But it's also the early morning so sorta understandable. When the server brought out my meal, he also didn't pick up the dirty dishes at the table next to me. Just the small things read more

5/5 Lovely light lunch, that you won't get the midday drag from after eating. Everything had great flavor & seasoning. The servers and cashier were incredibly inviting! Only downside was there was a lot of flies in the outside eating area so I had to move inside BUT still worth it. This will now be in my lunch rotation. read more

Build-a-plate meals are fun. At Sa-Ten, I chose chicken katsu, anchovy garlic toast plus sides of Japanese curry and kale salad. It arrived quickly and was presented beautifully. Salad was fresh and lovely. The toast was almost too hot to eat, which to me is perfect! I do wish they wouldn't serve their katsu almost always on the edge of burnt. An overcooked and dry katsu just doesn't taste great, no matter how much sauce is on it. I'll branch out and try other items like the grilled tare chicken next time. I've enjoyed every coffee drink I've ever had here. These days, it's mostly Americanos. Sa-Ten's Canopy location is a bit out of the way for me (their old location on Airport was closer to home) but much nicer. The Canopy complex consists of art studios, art galleries and several offices. There's outdoor seating and plenty of parking. read more

I had rosemary clove latte and egg bacon & sausage toast. Everything was great! The food was just a right amount for me, but bf left still a little peckish. There is plenty of seating inside and outside this time, but the only food available were toast options, so looked like we just missed a rush. read more
Sa-Tén is a great place to study and enjoy some small bites. They have a lot of outlets, which I really appreciate. I came for lunch this time, and I could tell the food was of high quality. It just unfortunately wasn't very satisfying because of the small portion size for $18. The staff were nice, and I came in with quite the large, noisy group on a weekend. I had the build a plate with chicken katsu, white rice, macaroni Fuji salad, and Japanese-style curry. Honestly, this would have been vastly improved if they could have just given more white rice, which is dirt cheap and should be easy to do. There was a small amount of rice that was not enough. I thought the curry would come with some extra rice, but it didn't, so it was extra difficult to portion out the rice with the curry and meat. The chicken katsu and macaroni salad were both very good, and I enjoyed them. The curry had a strange sweet taste that I can only describe as similar to Play-Doh. Not the texture, but just how I imagine Play-Doh would taste like. I also got the matcha latte, which was alright. It definitely had a very earthy matcha flavour. It doesn't come with sweetener, so I asked for some to be added. I would say on my matcha tier list, it was average. read more
It's a cafe located in the Canopy. They've got beverages and food items. You go in, order, take a number, and find a table. They'll bring out what you order, but after that it's bus your own. Inside, there's plenty of seating and large windows, so you get lots of light. I wouldn't really say it's a very comfortable place to do serious, focused work though. In terms of food, I'll need to return to try out some more of their menu. The staff were friendly and they were also pretty active about ensuring the place was clean. read more
This place was PACKED on a Thursday afternoon. I loved the Japanese inspired drink flavors and the delicious sounding plates and bowls. We split the Hawaiian plate ($17) - hearty and delicious for sure! I'm a sucker for mac salad and some egg on garlic rice. I also got a side of the Anchovy Garlic Toast ($8.50) and OMG - it was so rich, buttery, thick, and chewy - decadent! Don't worry if the anchovy scares you , you can't taste it. There is outdoor seating with water misters, and indoor seating with strong A/C. It is great for working - plenty of outlets. Staff is cool. read more
I came here once in 2018 and had a grand 'ol time, so when my friend asked if we could get brunch here in 2026, I was happy to learn that Sa'Ten is still open and thriving. The restaurant was only half full when I arrived at 11:00 am on a Sunday morning. I ordered a chicken karage with a drizzle of siracha mayo, white rice and sides of curry and potato salad at the counter and was given a number to bring to my indoor table. My food came out pretty quickly and it was piping hot. My chicken was cooked perfectly and the siracha mayo was not too spicy for me. I thought the rice shaped into a cube was so cute, and it was the perfect shape to spoon curry on top of. The interior is decorated so well, with lush green plants and warm brown wood walls. There's plenty of spots in the parking lot and they have some outdoor tables too. I saw a cute dog on the patio. I am excited to come back! read more
Coffee is good but nothing outstanding. The Japanese style breakfast tho. Highly recommend the salmon breakfast plate for a unique and delicious experience. The pumpkin salad on the side is yummy. The rice and salmon are cooked to perfect and even my picky toddler liked it. Hubby got the cowboy plate which is a heavier and less balanced dish. I tried the chicken karaage and toasted buttered thick toast and really liked them. Would recommend for a try if you are up for a big breakfast. read more

SO fire we came back for the exact same meal the next day! Everything we got was so fire.. the chicken karaage and katsu were so flavorful and the best texture ever... crispy but not at all greasy. the toast was so freaking fire I think about it once a day. The side dishes were PERF! cleaning up the table ourselves wasn't an issue at all, but wish we knew before tipping 20% on the 40$ tab read more

Early morning start, wanted to go to Matcha and happened to stumble across this place. They also had Hojicha, I ended up getting a matcha and a Hojicha latte with the cinnamon pecan seasonal syrup. The space was really nice. Definitely a good spot to sit down to get some work done. The latte tasted great and the barista was super nice! read more

I was excited to try this spot for dinner. I had heard good things and I wasn't disappointed. The service was very quick, and the food came out delicious. I had the chicken katsu plate and I enjoyed the save and the Mac salad. There was along amount of rice which I didn't finish but appreciated the portions. I'd love to come back and check this place out as a place to work from during the day as I've heard it's a good space to work from. read more

Amazing GLUTEN FREE chicken karaage- we got the bento and it comes with choice of rice / grain and two sides - got potato salad and kale salad. Ordered to go to avoid the long line inside and it was ready faster than expected time! Very cute indoor space with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating! read more

What a chill vibe! I really appreciate the natural lighting to sit and work on my laptop/read a book. I will say that the seats are the most comfortable, so I didn't stay long. I tried the smoked salmon toast and it was so tasty and soft! The proportion of toast to salmon was slightly disappointing, but I still enjoyed it. read more
I wanted to go here because I've heard great things about this place! I went here for dinner and right off the bat, I would say this is probably a brunch place more than a dinner place. Plenty of parking though which is nice! I ordered the Katsu-Don and it was decent. I really liked the Katsu but wished it came with sauce. The pickled radish was really sour so I didn't really like it. The egg was good, but was interesting to have it cooked with the Katsu. My friend ordered the chicken karaage with toast, Mac salad, and kale salad (I think). I tried one of the macaronis and it was okay. I'm not the biggest fan of cold pasta dishes so that's more of a personal preference than a knock on the dish. Overall, I would probably come again for brunch so I could their tea too. I've been to their old Airport location and loved it back then, so I was very excited to try this newer location. I will say, the parking lot and plaza seem a little sketchy at night. But I feel like this kind of food is better in the day time anyways, especially since Sa-ten also doubles as kind of a coffee shop. The chicken kara-age is so good! The meat is crispy and juicy and I love how saucy it was too. The spicy samurai sauce is creamy but gives it a little kick too. The anchovy garlic toast just tasted like cheesy garlic toast, which obviously is delicious, but I was kind of hoping for more of an anchovy taste to it. The kale salad is really nice, especially because I feel like everything else is so heavy that's it's nice to have some leafy vegetables. Its really lemony and light. The macaroni Fuji salad took me a few mouthfuls to get used to. I was expecting more of a traditional Japanese mac salad that's got a bit of a vinegary taste to cut through the heaviness of everything. But it was more like macaroni and mayo. It was still good, but yeah not what I expected. One of my friends got the Katsu don. And while each aspect of the bowl was good, it was really dry because there wasn't any type of sauce. Amazing!! Loved the atmosphere, it was very relaxing, food was delicious and well presented. The service was excellent as well, staff is very friendly. Lots of variety in this establishment, you can get a nice coffee, pastry, and even a dinner if you are starving. Perfect place to take someone for small talk, or a quick bite. Will definitely be coming back! read more
