#2 SHO-YU (Tonkotsu)

This place was recommended as a good ramen spot and it had some good ramen. You place your order and then you're seated. We opted to sit outside and there was a bar out there as well as inside. I got the Sho-Yu ramen ($14) and it was delicious. My only complaint was that there wasn't enough broth. It got crowded really fast but the outdoor area was nice and the bartenders recommended some good options based off our preferences.

Ramen here consistently hits the mark. The broth is rich and well balanced, noodles are cooked perfectly, and every bowl feels dialed in. Easily a go to spot when you want ramen that delivers every time. My fave is Curry Nu skool and I'm not even Vegan/Veg They also do drinks right. The draft Kirin is always cold and crisp, and the house hot sake is surprisingly good and smooth, especially on cooler nights. Chill, laid back vibe overall. The outdoor seating is a big + and the heaters make it comfortable even when it's cold out. Great spot for a relaxed dinner or casual night out.

Delicious steamy ramen and strong, creative cocktails? What's not to love. This is the go-to spot for ramen in Austin. I've been here easily a dozen times at this point, and I've been able to enjoy new specials pretty regularly so it's never a boring experience.

Stopped by Ramen Tatsu-Ya last night to celebrate a birthday with some loved ones and had a really nice, low-key evening. We chose to dine outside, and even for an early Saturday night it was surprisingly quiet and relaxed, which set the tone perfectly. Ordering at the bar was smooth. The bartenders were friendly, accurate, and genuinely helpful, which always makes a difference. We also started with an order of the katsu sliders, and they were a great way to kick things off: tasty, juicy, and full of flavor. Definitely a solid appetizer choice. For ramen, my partner in crime and I went with our usual favorites. I ordered the OG ramen and added a corn bomb, beni shoga, and tofu. The broth was still as rich and flavorful as ever, and the corn bomb added a great depth that really enhanced it. My PIC opted for the Mi-So-Hot and loved it! The heat really came through and delivered exactly what he was hoping for. The only slight letdown was the chashu in my bowl, which was a bit thinner and drier than I've had here in the past. It stood out mainly because I know how good it can be. Thankfully, the rest of the bowl held up well. Between the calm outdoor seating, great service, and consistently solid broth, the ambience and overall experience were spot-on. Still a reliable choice for ramen nights, especially when you're looking for something relaxed but satisfying.

Some menus, the vibe, the fans

The servers are so kind. It's outdoor and you order at the bar. It's spacious so it isn't too crowded, and the ramen is the best I have had literally ever in my life. The texture is so well done, the ratios of noodle to broth and the add-ins. There's nearby parking too.

Whoever is giving this place anything less than 5 stars, go give your mom a hug because you can't appreciate reliability and real soul. Every person who has visited me while I've lived in ATX has loved this spot and asked to comeback. The broth is so creamy and delicious that my mouth is watering writing this. My only complaint is that I wish they had split off tables instead of cafeteria styled seating because I always feels so close to other people and can't really have a one on one conversation with friends here because I'm damn near sitting on someone else's lap. But that's the price I'm willing to pay for their ramen. It's that good.

Gyoza was a 10/10
David R.

The place has that lively, cozy ramen shop energy that makes you feel like you're in Tokyo (even though I've never been). Service was friendly and quick, and the staff clearly know their menu well. I ordered the Mi So Hot ramen, and while it definitely had great flavor, it was way spicier than I expected. The guy helping me order said it wasn't that spicy, but it was honestly so hot that it was hard to really enjoy the broth and toppings. If you love heat, you'll probably be in heaven, but if you're more of a medium-spice person, I'd recommend something milder. The gyoza dumplings were pretty solid and deserve 5 stars on their own!

Curry Nu Skool ramen

I always get the Nu Skool or the Curry No Skool here as a vegetarian. I like these two options but do wish they had more vegan or vegetarian ones, although you can customize it with add ins like extra tofu or the spice bomb or corn bomb. Lines can get long especially on the weekends so go early or expect a bit of a wait. But what's nice is that you order and pay at the counter and you seat yourself. Food usually comes out pretty quickly too. Ramen Tatsu-Ya and Sazan are my two favorite spots for ramen in Austin so far out of all the places I've tried.

Texas Tonk
Sunny C.

Reliable rayman. The broth is consistently good. I'm usually not a fan of their spicy ramen or similar kind just because they put loose corn and ground beef in there. Which made me question........WAT? All the other ramens are good. The texas tonk was a limited time selection. Costed a bit more but had a pretty nice smoky flavor to it. There is a nice outdoor seating connected the sister bar. Overall it's a nice fast place with all good walk nearby. Staff is always nice and helpful on selections.

Ramen Tatsuya has gone down in quality since i've been in college. On our recent return, we were pretty dissatisfied with the meal overall. I ordered my go-to the shoyu and my husband ordered the tsukamen (his usual go to here). Both bowls were too salty. My ramen broth was not very emulsified and there was a layer of oil on top. The noodles were still pretty bouncy and chewy. We also ordered our long time favorite- the brussels sprouts here, but even this app has decreased in quality. They peel off each layer of the brussels now, so the dish is just flaky crunchy pieces instead of whole sprouts. I didn't really enjoy the texture that much, especially because there was no contrast, just crunch. It was pretty messy and hard to eat. Overall, I don't think I will come back again. Some things are better left in sweet memories, and ramen tatsuya is one of those places.

Kizami Sweet & Sour Yodas and Chili Oil Gyoza
Eric T.

Ramen Tatsuya is a ramen shop that I credit with being the best bowl of ramen I have had stateside. We visited around 2pm on a Friday afternoon and the restaurant was understandably empty. You place your order at the front, take a number, and find your own seat. I ordered the Tsukemen and also got to try the tonkotsu shoyu and the tonkotsu original, all favorites that I have ordered in the past. The soups tasted a bit different and more bone-y (kind of like a papery taste) than what I remember. The noodles are the same as always, bouncy, delicious, and great at clinging onto soup. The brussels sprouts (sweet and sour yodas) used to be whole or halved, but now they come shredded and are much more difficult to eat and simply not as delicious. We also got to try their chili oil gyoza, a seasonal special, and I thought that they were quite delicious. Same phenomenal gyoza recipe but now topped with sweet, sour, and slightly spicy sauce and finished with herbs. I'm on the fence whether I would return but coming back recalls a lot of good memories. I hope that we just had a one off with the slightly off tasting broth or visited when the broth was over reducing in between peak times. Either way, Tatsuya is still worth a visit if you've never been, but perhaps a visit with lowered expectations.

#4 MI-SO-HOT (Tonkotsu)

This is my go to restaurant when I'm in Texas. Austin or Houston. I ADORE!! I always tend to get the same ramen, but I do change up the appetizers or beverage when I go. I just LOVE the combination of ground pork and spice in a ramen and they do it very well. They have a unique menu and it always brings me back. Try one of the flavor bombs if you're feeling fancy. Everyone is always so nice and patient, and the restaurants are always beautiful- any location!

Nice quick lunch spot! Very filling and had a nice depth of flavor, comes with a lot of toppings already but you can also add on.

How busy does it get on Friday nights?

It definitely fills up. You do order at the counter though, so that speeds up the process significantly. There are also multiple areas to sit, and turnover is usually quick!

Are there any soy free options?

Our only soy-free option will be the Gluten Free Original Tonkotsu, which comes without the tare, chashu and ajitama. For toppings, the following are soy-free: parmesan, garlic, nori, beni shoga, corn, kikurage, scallions, and the yuzu bomb. We are… Read more

Did y'all get rid of the tsukemen dipping ramen?

Yes. Its not on the menu at least for Lakeline and the one beside Kemuri. I didn't visit other stores

Do they have happy hour and if so what times?

We do not have a happy hour at this time.

Are the portion sizes for takeout ramen the same as when eating in?

Yes, they are the same, very large portion that's about 2 meals for me.

Do they take reservations? I don't see the option on Yelp or their website and I can't call.

Yes, visit their website. Just search for the restaurant name.

Is this place ever not crowded? Serious question?

Just the same as any restaurant, if you go during peak hours it'll be busier. It's rare that I wait more than 5 minutes at any Ramen Tatsu-Ya location. Just go before noon, between 2-6pm, or after 9pm.

Do you offer gluten free noodles? 😋

No. They sub rice

Do they have a terrace ? I have a dog with me do they allow dogs?

No they do not :(

Please note that Sa-Tén is in an industrial-style complex and can be easily missed. The anchor point is a large green Canopy sign. After circling a few times, my friend and I started to meet at Stargazer instead for coffee. After having coffee at Stargazer, we decided to grab breakfast "to-go" at Sa-Tén as my Art contest start time was nearing. It is literally diagonally across the street from Stargazer. Sa-Tén means "coffee lounge" or "café" in Japanese. It traditionally refers to a relaxed neighborhood coffee shop...a place meant to be a welcoming community space. The coffee shop is small with wraparound glass windows emitting an abundance of light. Sa-Tén's interior is unassuming...really non-distinct. My friend ordered the last salmon toast, however, since she had previously tried it, she allowed me to have the last one. Such a thoughtful and kind friend...she ordered the bacon, egg and cheese toast instead. Let me just say this salmon toast was the bomb diggity. Our server described this breakfast item as salmon on white toast...what a major understatement! Our toast was even larger than Texas toast with a brioche taste and perfectly toasted. Quite honestly, I could have just eaten the toast all by itself. The salmon and cheese enhanced the taste. What a spectacular discovery! My friend was pleased with her selection as well. I will seek out Sa Tén when I'm on the East Side again.

I came here also because I had a deal from the AACHI fundraiser they are doing this month. Ordered the Spicy Salmon toast and the Egg, Bacon, and Sausage toast. Both were amazing and had tons of flavor. The bread is soft and fluffy. I also got a plate with Chicken Kara-age. Not too bad, I personally would stick to the Katsu. The Chicken Kara-age was not as crispy as I would like it. Also got royal milk tea, which was lightly sweetened. This place does get packed, so if you like to try this place, avoid the right before noon crowd or go early morning or later in the afternoon. The restaurant itself is small, but they do have some outdoor tables as well. The hard part about sitting outside is if you order drinks, I don't know if you can hear your name being yelled out while you are outside, so I would suggest having someone inside to grab your drink if you order any or check inside after a while to see if your drinks are ready.

Apr 8, 2026 review:…read more I've been at Nori two times in person and recently tried their to-go order. We got one Austin roll ($22), volcano roll ($15), creamy spicy tan tan ramen ($20), teriyaki sesame tofu yakisoba ($20). I have had their sushi and yakisoba but tried their ramen for first time. I was impressed with their packaging. As you can see in picture, veggies and noodles box was on top and soup at bottom. The only thing I didn't like how noodles became very sticky because of how tight they were packed. So I got it as cold (because I live 30 mins away) and sticky. Ramen came with all the veggies like grilled Chinese broccoli, tofu, sweet corn, marinated shiitake mushrooms, red onions and negi. Yakisoba noodles had the Stir-fried noodles tossed with cabbage, scallion, carrot, marinated shiitake mushrooms, and fragrant negi in a savory house sauce. It was good if you like this type of noodles. Austin roll had Smoked tempeh, tempura tofu, jalapeño, pickles. And on the to Avocado, roasted garlic oil, tempura flakes, smoked paprika, teriyaki. Volcano roll was a deep fried roll which had spinach, avocado, sweet potato. On top: spicy mayo, sweet soy sauce, chili sauce, Caviart and tempura onion. I would say this is the best vegetarian sushi place I've found in Austin. So if you're in search, this wouldn't disappoint you.

I'll start by stating the obvious: everything on the menu is plant based! It's rare for me to go to a restaraunt and be able to eat everything on the many and its unheard of when it comes to sushi which is why I so excited to try the place out. IM OBSESSED! Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. We tried the chick'n karaage, impossible gyoza, and a few different speciality roles (austin, manhattan, and another that I can't recall). While the food was really yummy, the drinks were somehow even better. I had an early grey martini that blew me away. Probably in the top 2 best cocktails I've ever had in my life. The best part is all of their drinks (or nearly all of their cocktails) come in three variations which allows you to get them with alchohol, thc, or make it complelely non-alcoholic. Love the inclustivity. I cant' wait to come back!
