I love Ramen Tatsu-Ya! We come here quite often and it's always a treat. I am a picky eater and I get the "ol skool " with a side of goma pork. It's a perfect meat eaters feast. The staff are super friendly and the line goes quickly! The restaurant is clean and set up for family shared tables. So we always meet nice people while dining. My partner gets the "new skool" and she adds Brussels sprouts. They also have a " guavarito" alcoholic drink which is super tasty. It's always a cool place to eat and kinda trendy. Accidentally ended up at this place after thinking it was the downtown Austin location lol. Nonetheless, the shop is small but ample seating. You order at the front desk and proceed to sit wherever is free. Ordered the fried gyoza and MISO-HOT ramen. The portions at this place are amazing. The broth was rich and packed with flavor. SOOOO good! To be honest, I thought this was a location of a place I knew from Pasadena (Tatsunoya) which had similar colors on their branding. But so glad we wandered in here based on great Yelp reviews! DELICOUS miso ramen!! We got the miso not (miso broth) and miso hot tonkotsu ramen (perfect amount of spicy). Cute shop. You order at the front and they have open self seating. Nice interior and we didn't wait long to order or get our food. Casual but tasty ramen spot! We went on Sunday during happy hour so appetizers were 5 dollars and NA drinks were 2. You order at the counter and most things are self serve. I got the OG ramen with a chili bomb, along with a strawberry yuzu lemonade. We also got the karaage. Everything was super solid, the ramen broth was rich and not too salty, and egg was jammy and marinated nicely. The chili bomb adds a nice spice to the ramen, but definitely not needed. There's enough to share between multiple bowls as well. Karaage was also solid, I probably wouldn't get the lemonade again, it was a bit too sour and had an after taste of cucumbers (?) to me. This used to be my go to ramen spot and unfortunately the quality and service has gone downhill. The food comes out extremely fast, in a way that makes me wonder how they are putting any love or effort into. The ramen was not hot when served and seemed to be watered down, less flavorful than a a couple years back. Despite this I kept giving them a chance and this recent time around I got sick from the food, feeling it pretty quickly after finishing my bowl of ramen. I have been coming to Ramen Tatsu Ya for years, so this visit was honestly disappointing. I ordered the Me So Hot ramen, which used to be one of my favorites, but it tastes completely different now, and not in a good way. The bowl was loaded with a ton of lettuce or cabbage and piles of green onions, which totally threw off the balance of the dish. Before, the flavor was rich, deep, and spicy in a satisfying way. This time it felt watered down, overly bulky from the vegetables, and the overall taste just did not resemble what I remember at all. It felt like a completely different recipe. On top of that, the restaurant was dead at lunch, which was surprising for this place. The inside layout and seating have also been changed, and the space feels less cozy and more awkward than before. The whole vibe is just different. I hate writing this because this used to be the OG best ramen spot in town, but it has gone really downhill. Between the recipe change, the overload of greens, and the interior changes, it just was not the same experience. With so many new and better options around Austin now, I will not be returning. I'm updating my review because it's been over ten years since I last lived in Austin. I recently came back to my favorite Ramen spot, the original Ramen Tatsuya. I have to say, the Mi-so-hot is still my favorite ramen dish ever! That said, a lot has changed over the years. The sweet and sour yodas I once loved are now these shaved brussel sprouts that don't quite do it for me. I get the direction, shaved means more areas get seasoned, but it no longer has the same flavor profile, it taste more like a fried salad. It's a little too heavy of an appetizer served this way. The chicken karrage was ok. The only disappointing thing was my husbands tonkotsu ramen. It had NO flavor. I was almost offended that he would tell me his brot tasted like nothing. Like, how dare you sir, at my favorite establishment. But when I tried it, he was right. If that was my first introduction to this place I wouldn't have come back. It really tasted like nothing. no flavor, no salt. My miso ramen and his tonkotsu were like night and day. He did love the cashu pork. I think in the last 10 years, Ramen tatsuya has had a lot of competition and in response had to innovate their menu a lot. But sometimes if it ain't broke don't fix it. This is still a decent place for ramen, I just hope they don't lose sight of what made them the best in the first place. read more

I went to this Japanese spot and absolutely loved it. I ordered the OG Ramen and also had some gyozas and a lemonade. The ramen was really good with a perfect balance of flavors, honestly one of the best I've tried. The gyozas were also very tasty and with that soy sauce. The strawberry lemonade was good as well.I would definitely come back whenever I'm craving ramen, especially now that it's cold outside. They have other ramen options and other plates like rice bowls and appetizers. The place is in an area with plenty of parking, the staff at the front were very nice and they bring the food to your table. The restaurant isn't very big, but it has that cool, cozy vibe. I've been to Ramem Tatsu-ya before but this was my first time at this location. I came specifically to try out the Crawmen- their seasonal crawfish boil inspired ramen. This is a seasonal item but it really should be a regular on the menu because it's SO flavorful and tasty. I decided to come here because it was highly rated in Google, but it was little disappointing maybe so because my expectation was high. I've been to a lot of ramen places including many places in Japan, so that could be a reason to account for. The service was prompt, and there are plenty of seatings, but the ramen was just so so. I came here after seeing all of the reviews for the Crawmen. They did not disappoint!! The bowl was huge and very filling, I couldn't finish it all in one sitting. The name is escaping me, but I also ordered one of the specialty drinks. It was so refreshing and complimentary to the spice of the Crawmen. I am definitely going to hate to see this bowl leave, because it was very tasty. We did do another OG / build your own type and it was very tasty as well. I liked their original tonkotsu ramen! 60 hour pork bone broth. It's nice to add the fire in the hole sauce on the side to add heat to taste. It comes with one egg and one chashu slice in the bowl so if you want extra get that extra. I liked the broth, the noodles, egg, and chashu. I would note that their scallions were pretty strong in flavor and there's a lot of them so if that's not your vibe just pass on it. I did taste one piece of ginger slice. Service was great. The chairs are wooden and heavy with no backing. No problem with that. It's an order then sit down place with self service water and Togo containers on the side. Looked very traditional Japanese inside with both private booths and shared tables. You walk up to order and there's a different variety of ramen with add-ons, sides, and drinks. I opted for the OG ramen with the tonkotsu broth and extra chashu pork. It was served very quickly within 5 minutes and I was ready to dig in! The broth was so full of umami that kept me from anting to finish every last drop. The edamame is nice and salty as a starter. Our daughter ordered the OG, which is still pretty good. The two of us got the mi-so-not/hot, and the spicy version is definitely better. Also because there were no pictures, one of us accidentally ordered the spicy bomb when what she really wanted was the chili bomb. One thing we do want to say is that we had awesome service here. The woman at the register was incredibly patient and helpful, and everyone working the floor was in good spirits and friendly. The staff definitely made up for the unwelcome changes and no-longer-impressive ramen. The vegan Ramen bowl is so delicious and so flavorful with a broth that is full of flavor, thick but not to overwhelming. They have really great lunch specials. The only thing I was disappointed by was the salad which may have been my own fault because I wasn't entirely sure what I was ordering. I think it was meant to pair with something else and not meant to eat on its own. However, the Ramen is so good it made up for all the other mishaps.
