What an amazing experience I had at Sushi Hi. This is a small local establishment on research Boulevard. It was my first time going to this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised they serve a combination of Korean and Japanese cuisine on two different menus and my waitress. Michele was very knowledgeable of both menus. Once again this was my first time in this restaurant she took the time to explain both menus to me, and I chose to get the Ramen noodle bowl with veggies and pork belly as the pork meat. I also got a chili bomb on the side where I could spice it up as hot as I wanted to the dish came with a fork, a spoon and chopsticks so you could decide what you wanted to use as utensils. The boat came out nice and hot with the vegetables cooked perfectly, and the pork belly was very tasty. The chili bomb that I put into my Ramen was awesome and tasted wonderful. The white staff, and even the owner was there to assist all the patrons that came in. This was definitely a great experience it had the feel of your local homestyle restaurant with nothing super fancy, except the great tasting food that was extremely well prepared with care and love that you would expect from a hometown eatery. Once again they were busy, but it was not too loud that you could have a conversation with your friends and not be drowned out. I would recommend this place for large birthday parties or events because they go out of their way to take care of you and explain everything for the experienced person or the novice . The dessert was mango ice, cream, covered in a flavored rice covering that was very tasty I am looking forward to going back to try some of their sushi. I was there alone, but I want to experience it with my friends so I will definitely bring them back and have some of their delicious sushi because it definitely looks good. .

I've never once felt sick after eating out before. Tonight, I felt really sick and threw up after 30-60 minutes of eating the food. This was my first time ever to get food poisoning. Update: 3 days past and I'm still throwing up. I'm very sad because I think this experience ruined my love for sushi. Update: weeks after. My stomach has never been the same ever since. Spicy Salmon Roll (1/5): The salmon was very fishy and did not taste normal. My friend also agreed that the salmon tasted off. Miso Soup (1/5): Doesn't really taste like miso soup. It had an off-sweet taste. Chicken Karaage (2/5): Alright. It was crispy. Spicy Spring Roll (1.5/5): The spring roll itself wasn't that great and it was not spicy. The sauce is the sweet chili sauce. Korean BBQ Plate (2.5/5): Alright. The vegetables were good.

My absolute favorite place for sushi and ramen! The staff is always friendly and welcoming. And the wall art is so amazing. Thank you, Sushi Hi for your service!

This is a great place. Weekend day hours are nice. Free miso soup with entree. The sushi rolls were very fresh and the spring rolls were too. Everything was very fresh!

From the Internet. Even their example doesn't look as terrible as the one they sent

I've ordered from this place many times but today when my delivery arrived I didn't check the food and I should have. I ordered the Salmon Avo Roll and the Rainbow Roll. After eating one piece of the Salmon Avocado Roll, I noticed a strange taste. A bite of the second one confirmed it was terrible; upon checking, it was clear the salmon was spoiled. I took pictures comparing the salmon in both rolls, highlighting the quality issue. I regret not checking before eating and am now worried about potential food poisoning. I won't order from this place again and may consider reporting this as a health concern. I'm adding the picture of my food and a very educative online picture that proves my point

Sushi Hi serves up a mix of Japanese and Korean dishes like sushi, ramen, Korean street food, etc. After a few visits, I think the food here is honestly pretty average and the portions are on the smaller side (prices are ok), but it's a solid spot for late-night hangouts and casual drinks. The vibe is relaxed, the service is friendly, and they stay open late, a great choice for a laid-back evening, weekdays or weekends

I tried so incredibly hard to like this place but I can't do sushi rolls that have a strong fishy taste. We ordered rolls that had the sauces on it, but I could still taste the strong fishy taste. Service was excellent and easy because it was a mix of QR code ordering and grabbing your own utensils and sauces. I really did like that part of it. I've have better rolls

Left to right-- sushi hi roll, Austin roll, spicy tuna, crazy roll, Naruto roll, firecracker shrimp roll and sasuke roll.

Great hole in the wall. Amazing service and incredibly flavorful rolls at a great price! Will be a regular spot to visit!

I slept on this low-key sushi joint for way too long. If you've been curious, but haven't checked it out, this is your sign to get out of the Tatsu-Ya line and walk down the sidewalk to Sushi Hi. It has open tables. It is a crime that more people haven't discovered Sushi Hi, but until they do, go take advantage of the open tables. Grab a bottle of sake from the cooler, order at the counter and serve yourself complimentary miso soup. You read that right. Unlimited, complimentary miso soup. They have the kind of rolls that the self-proclaimed sushi purists would turn their noses up at but you know you want them. Deep fried, drizzled with sauces. Your sushi guilty pleasure. Don't worry, they have the classics as well. This is the place you come to satisfy a craving without pretense of being upscale. The staff is friendly and happy to accommodate; they told us they'd be happy to customize any rolls. I am violating my standing rule to visit an establishment at least three times before reviewing, but my first experience was so good, I have to review immediately. I will definitely return and update my review once I've had the chance to try more than the sushi. Kid friendly. Casual hang-out friendly. Just go. You'll only be sorry that you didn't go sooner.

A very homely little spot. Sometimes you just need that place that you need to get a quick fix or a pick me up. Sushi, ramen, matsubi, anime vibe, got a craving? Here's the fix. Atmosphere: As mentioned above a nice homely mom and pop like front that somewhat reminded me of some of the street vendors you'd find on big city streets like Tokyo. Complete with looping anime to complete that overall vibe. Food: I'd recommend whatever suits your fancy for the day. I remember getting all 3 matsubi, ramen, and some nigiri. All were great and best of all affordable, just enough to hit that craving spot. Service: Friendly counter service, they take your order from upfront and are more than knowledgeable about any questions you may have. There's a small area where you can watch the chefs cook if you so please. Overall: A great small spot with some great portions and overall chill vibe. I would most definitely come back here if I ever just had a sushi/ramen craving. That's just how they roll.

My first time wasn't too memorable and the second time I got the ultra spicy veggie ramen and it was so spicy I cried (which is good haha i have very high spice tolerance so I'm glad I found a spot that can do truly spicy). This time, I got the deluxe Chicken Paitan DX Ramen (the one that comes with the chicken leg). Chicken Paitan DX Ramen: A sweet soy glazed chicken leg is served on a hot sizzling plate with a small bed of bean sprouts marinating in the sauce. The sauce is a sticky, sweet soy sauce that is so delicious. The chicken leg itself is tender, juicy, and has a great skin texture. The skin soaks up the sauce so well and even has some nice charred bits that add to the flavor and complexity of the dish. The ramen itself was great too. A creamy rich chicken broth. I got the spicy level, so one level under the top spice level and it was perfect. Not unbearably spicy, but had a really nice underlying kick. The noodles are a thin yet snappy noodle so it made it easy to eat. I love the corn and mushroom spirals too! Overall, if you come based on this review, make sure to get the chicken paitan dx ramen. There are only 15 served in a day but ask them if they have it because I was able to get one on a Monday night at around 8PM! It's a nice space, good for a date or even a casual hangout. They have tables to accomodate parties of 1, 2, 4, and possibly 6.

Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. #5 Tsukemen/Dipping Broth ($16.50): The dipping broth wasn't umami enough to hold up as a true dipping broth, so we ended up pouring it over our noodles and eating it like a regular ramen bowl. The flavors were really good and better than the MI-SO-HOT. The only complaint about the broth was that it wasn't warm or hot. The noodles were bouncy and thick like udon, which I loved. They only gave one slice of chashu, which was disappointing, so I'm glad we added the extra Goma Pork/Sesame Seasoned Ground Pork ($2.50) and Naruto Maki ($1.50). Chashu Rice Bowl ($8.50): Good, but not as flavorful or melt-in-your-mouth as last time. #4 MI-SO-HOT (Tonkotsu) ($16): My cousin got this and it was actually bulked out with veggies. It was good, but the flavors weren't anything standout. Not super spicy either, so the heat is very tolerable.

The bowl was loaded with a ton of lettuce or cabbage and piles of green onions, which totally threw off the balance of the dish. Before, the flavor was rich, deep, and spicy in a satisfying way. This time it felt watered down, overly bulky from the vegetables, and the overall taste just did not resemble what I remember at all. It felt like a completely different recipe. On top of that, the restaurant was dead at lunch, which was surprising for this place. The inside layout and seating have also been changed, and the space feels less cozy and more awkward than before. The whole vibe is just different. I hate writing this because this used to be the OG best ramen spot in town, but it has gone really downhill. Between the recipe change, the overload of greens, and the interior changes, it just was not the same experience. With so many new and better options around Austin now, I will not be returning. We got one Austin roll ($22), volcano roll ($15), creamy spicy tan tan ramen ($20), teriyaki sesame tofu yakisoba ($20). I have had their sushi and yakisoba but tried their ramen for first time. I was impressed with their packaging. As you can see in picture, veggies and noodles box was on top and soup at bottom. The only thing I didn't like how noodles became very sticky because of how tight they were packed. So I got it as cold (because I live 30 mins away) and sticky. Ramen came with all the veggies like grilled Chinese broccoli, tofu, sweet corn, marinated shiitake mushrooms, red onions and negi. Yakisoba noodles had the Stir-fried noodles tossed with cabbage, scallion, carrot, marinated shiitake mushrooms, and fragrant negi in a savory house sauce. It was good if you like this type of noodles. Austin roll had Smoked tempeh, tempura tofu, jalapeño, pickles. And on the to Avocado, roasted garlic oil, tempura flakes, smoked paprika, teriyaki.
