We got one Austin roll ($22), volcano roll ($15), creamy spicy tan tan ramen ($20), teriyaki sesame tofu yakisoba ($20). I have had their sushi and yakisoba but tried their ramen for first time. I was impressed with their packaging. As you can see in picture, veggies and noodles box was on top and soup at bottom. The only thing I didn't like how noodles became very sticky because of how tight they were packed. So I got it as cold (because I live 30 mins away) and sticky. Ramen came with all the veggies like grilled Chinese broccoli, tofu, sweet corn, marinated shiitake mushrooms, red onions and negi. Yakisoba noodles had the Stir-fried noodles tossed with cabbage, scallion, carrot, marinated shiitake mushrooms, and fragrant negi in a savory house sauce. It was good if you like this type of noodles. Austin roll had Smoked tempeh, tempura tofu, jalapeño, pickles. And on the to Avocado, roasted garlic oil, tempura flakes, smoked paprika, teriyaki. Volcano roll was a deep fried roll which had spinach, avocado, sweet potato. On top: spicy mayo, sweet soy sauce, chili sauce, Caviart and tempura onion. I would say this is the best vegetarian sushi place I've found in Austin. So if you're in search, this wouldn't disappoint you. read more

I went to Nori for the first time on Friday for a friends birthday. I was honestly unsure about it at first because I have never been to a plant-based restaurant, but everything about this experience makes me want to come back. T he food was delicious I had the Spicy TanTan Ramen and the Spicy Edamame and it was so good! Our server was amazing and attentive. It did take quite a bit of time for the drinks to come out but totally understandable for a bar to be backed up. I'm so mad that it took me five years to learn about Nori as a vegetarian who really likes sushi. I came her during my birthday weekend and I so happy that I did. I'll start by stating the obvious: everything on the menu is plant based! It's rare for me to go to a restaraunt and be able to eat everything on the many and its unheard of when it comes to sushi which is why I so excited to try the place out. IM OBSESSED! Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. We tried the chick'n karaage, impossible gyoza, and a few different speciality roles (austin, manhattan, and another that I can't recall). While the food was really yummy, the drinks were somehow even better. I had an early grey martini that blew me away. Probably in the top 2 best cocktails I've ever had in my life. The best part is all of their drinks (or nearly all of their cocktails) come in three variations which allows you to get them with alchohol, thc, or make it complelely non-alcoholic. Nori in the middle of guad feels like a fever dream but it's a classy establishment. Take advantage of happy hour since it's pricey for vegan sushi. All the rolls were top notch but my favorite was the shiitake which had the most complex flavors. Volcano was a second but it being deep fried helps. Was running late for my reservation and thankfully they held the spot. Sat at the bar and Val took great care of me. They explained all the details for menu options including the specials, drinks that can be made zero proof, spiked or with THC. I saw they did a Mango Lychee daiquiri and asked if I could have a Lychee martini and they were able to provide. Awesome! Got the volcano roll and the spicy ponzu spring roll. Also they were in Happy Hour from 5-6:30, so a couple bucks off the items ordered. The volcano roll was amazing, you'd never know it didn't have fish in it. The spicy ponzu spring roll was difficult to eat. The roll was not tight enough to hold anything and after the absolute failure on the first one asked for a fork. The prices are on the higher side, but the quality is solid overall. Dragon Roll ($16.49): Tempura asparagus, nasu (Japanese eggplant), and cucumber topped with avocado, sweet soy sauce, and sesame seeds. This was my second favorite roll. Spider Roll ($16.49): Soy paper roll with tempura seafood mushroom, spicy toona mix, avocado, radish sprouts, wasabi mayo, and unagi. This was my third favorite roll. We always love coming to Nori for any special occasions. Nice vibe, great food, and always super helpful staffs. Always a pleasant experience with Nori. This time we ordered some happy hour menus, which I didn't know they had! We got two different types of baos and some rolls and nigiri sampler! My friend and I really wanted to eat a healthy meal to balance out our previous not-so-healthy food choices from the week, so we decided to be adventurous and try out Nori. Neither of us is vegan, but we had a pleasant and enjoyable meal. We ordered the Chik'n Karaage, Origami, Tempeh Temple, and Rainbow rolls. I appreciate how creative they made the sushi to spin fish and meat into something plant-based while still keeping it delicious. The only thing that was a bit of a challenge was the service. After years of coming here I still love this place. The food is fantastic. You don't need reservations as much anymore, but it definitely wouldn't hurt to plan ahead. It's all low lighting and lovely moody vibes. For my most recent trip here, Hubs and I came here together and had a great night. Once again we ate too much and left super full. We love coming and even brought a couple of husband's friend here one time. Neither were vegan, but we gave them a heads up and they agreed to try it out. They had a great time. The tomato texture is very much like tuna. 3.75/5 Sunflower: The spiciness of the chili and jalapeño is good and gives the roll a deeper umami flavor. I liked the crunchiness from the cucumber and the creaminess from the avocado. 4/5 Nigiri sampler: Salmon wasn't too strong but the green onions were a good touch. Tofu tasted like tofu skin and had a slight sweetness. Tomato was just tomato but the texture was so similar to tuna. 3.5/5 Raspberry Lemon "Cheesecake": More cakey than creamy since it's vegan but it was still good. We came here on a weekend night and were so glad we did! This had to be some of the best vegan food we've had in a long while. It was our first time having Japanese vegan food, but everything here is made with such care that it tastes like the real thing. We ordered the Zero Proof Pink Flamingo, Brussels sprouts, volcano roll, spicy tan tan ramen, curry with eggplant, edamame gyoza, and the Buddha Roll to-go. Everything here was just amazingly made! It is amazing that everything here is vegan yet has so much flavor. We started off with the Volcano roll, which really did just have a punch and all the right sauces. Our favorite dish was probably the Japanese Curry with eggplant, which was breaded and fried well. The spicy tan tan ramen also had a lot of good flavor with fresh noodles. The food came out very fast and our server came to check in on us every so often. The ambiance was also very nice -- dim and on the smaller side, but it felt like a bar and higher end restaurant, even though it's a basic restaurant with a small parking lot. I've been coming to Nori since their opening week, but I live in Dallas now. I took the train down for a weekend trip, and was excited to try their new spicy ramen (I loved the old one). However, I was disappointed with the server. My water wasn't refilled once, and he seemed frustrated when I asked him for more water after my meal. During my meal, I mentioned that I had read we're able to get extra broth for free since it's served low broth. I saw this in a manager response on Reddit. He got extremely rude, and said it would be "like $4," so I politely told him not to worry about it. I also asked for extra spice on the side for my ramen, and was given chili oil instead of chili paste or hot sauce. I only used a little bit, because I didn't intend to add a lot of calories and grease. I still like Nori, but I would request a different server if he was selected for me next time. read more

Nori - Creamy Spicy Tan Tan, NEW - Vegan Near Me - Austin, Texas

These reviews aren't discussing why you don't get value for your money at Nori. Sure, food at Nori tastes okay, but the fine yet forgettable tastes compensate for many other details. Give any thought to their food and you'll realize how disappointing their dishes are. Caveat, if you're a vegan/vegetarian and want Japanese food then try Nori. You may gain something from trying dishes that are tough to find without meat, but know you're wildly overpaying. If you're not vegan/vegetarian, avoid Nori. I'm supremely confident that Nori uses boxed Golden Curry brand to create their curry. I know this because I've been using Golden Curry for a decade as a starter base. Everyone at my table agreed it tasted exactly like Golden Curry which costs $4 for 6 servings at HEB instead of $20 for 1 serving at Nori. Nori seems to use the mild or medium curry version and simply follows instructions on the box - add potatoes, onions, carrots, done. They served it to me almost room temperature which is, to be direct, absolutely wrong. Curry that's not piping hot is unappealing mush. If you've never had curry then think of it like very thick soup. Hot soup? Great. Cold soup? Can be good. Room temp soup? Universal no. The gyoza is the most obvious way they overcharge you. You get $15 for four pieces and an ocean of sauce you can't eat. You're given chopsticks for the gyoza which means that you can't do anything with the sauce beyond dip 4-8 times. There's likely to be 1/2 cup of uneaten liquids when you're done which you can't do anything with unless you pick up the plate and drink it. It's terribly wasteful of Nori and means you're paying for literal trash. The gyozas aren't fried, they're steamed, which means they're extra soft. Not a bad thing, unless you plate them in a swimming pool for guests like Nori does. The oil splatter marks all along the side of the plate suggest they plated the gyozas with as much thought as they put into the rest of the dish. A minor bright spot was the tan tan ramen. The mushrooms in it are absolutely delicious and by far the best thing my table ate. They should be featured in a stand alone plate. The tan tan broth is savory but safe meaning you'll remember a hot salty liquid with some thickness and no real character. A tan tan should have spice and richness offsetting gentle veggie tones. A larger problem is that there's not enough broth. Ramen should have plenty of liquid which absorbs flavor as you eat and becomes even richer by then end. They pack so much "stuff" in the bowl that you can't enjoy the liquid. That may sound like getting value, but you're actually being denied the basic nature of ramen. Then there's the service. Wait staff is genuinely nice but incomplete. Fir example, my table wasn't offered a refill of water. You also can't see the level in the glasses thanks to the spiked (very unappealing on your lips to drink from) texture so it's likely they didn't know. But they still didn't ask. They also didn't ask if we needed a box for leftovers. Felt like all personality without a real service touch. Our waiter also told us they're in between head chefs (as of August 2025) and they're using the old chef's recipes which may also be an issue. I'll be returning to try the sushi but my expectations are low. I've spent months traveling in Japan, Hawaii, and plenty of Japanese restaurants in between, so I can say that Nori is not worth a visit unless you're dietarily restricted from Japanese dishes. read more

I've been to Nori a couple of times and always love it. During brunch the menu is different from dinner time but have some overlaps. I've noticed it being more crowded in the evenings than mornings. But the ambiance is quite lively and chic. A nice dine in restaurant. We ordered the chicken bao which was okayish. Their eggplant katsu curry was amazing. All of their rolls are really tasty too. We got the creamy crunchy roll, dragon roll, volcano roll and the spicy toona. I'd recommend ordering a few rolls to start with and then order more if needed. They're more filling than it seems. We love taking our non-vegan friends to Nori because everyone genuinely enjoys the food and atmosphere. A vegan Japanese spot is hard to come by in Austin, and Nori delivers. My friend and I came for their Monday all-day happy hour, and the food was amazing. The standouts were the katsu bao and the tempura. It's actually been a while since I've had tempura that perfectly cooked and seasoned!! All the rolls were amazing too, but my favorite was the spider roll (not on the happy hour menu). We've loved Nori for a few years now, but our experience last night was better than ever! They are constantly trying new things and improving the dishes- spicy toona roll last night may have been the best roll we've ever had there! The rolls are all so flavorful that we find we don't need the soy sauce/wasabi combination to dip in. Just skip it entirely. They have plentiful zero-proof cocktail and beer options (as well as standard liquor and beer). The waitstaff is incredible- they always take time to chat with us and seem like they actually like their jobs. I would list them by name but I don't want to leave anyone out. I called ahead before our dinner to arrange a small surprise anniversary dinner, and they were super accommodating and seemed genuinely happy to help make the night special for my husband and me. They've also upped their game with the ambiance- some newer nice touches like candles and flowers at each table. We absolutely love this place! My girl and I have eaten at the restaurant and taken food to-go, and while nothing beats a sweet little evening with gorgeous plating -- the food totally holds up as take out! I'm absolutely in love with Nori! Their vegan sushi is top notch, every roll is so different yet so tasty. I love the ambiance of the restaurant, it's a fancy restaurant but the food isn't very expensive which I love. My friends and I got the chicken karaage and three types of sushi rolls. The karaage's texture is so good! It's not like the typical vegan chicken substitute, it's a little softer since it's made with mushroom root (but you can't taste the mushrooms.) We got the specialty drinks, a hot cider drink, a hibiscus mule, and a maple old fashioned. Their drinks are incredibly strong so keep that in mind.
