THE BIG: Finally happy that there is a North Austin location! Located in The Grove, this sushi spot is ultra modern but with warm wooden tones. Plenty of seating inside and parking is either street or in the garage. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here with a co worker to catch up when he was visiting from Canada. When we got in here around 2pm, the place was dead. We were the only people inside. Granted it was past the lunch rush. We ordered two omakases which is affordably priced and has 8 tastings. It first started off with the sunomono salad, before going into our first tuna sashimi piece. Then we had two yellowtail and salmon nigiris. Then we had our toro handroll which was the best bite in my opinion. Then we wrapped up with the albacore, akami and salmon hand roll. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, the damage done here was around $90 for two normal omakases. Very affordable sushi and fresh.

Tancho was bright and modern inside. Very wooden and Japanese feeling. The service was great and they easily accommodated a 10 month old and have changing stations on the bathroom. The food was delicious and the omakase was filling enough for me.

My experience at Tancho- Grove was great! It's a dimly lit spot that seems excellent for a date night. The food came out quickly and each item was explained to us. This is an omakase restaurant with a few a la carte options. They're very reasonably priced for it being omakase- the standard menu is about $41 and the lighter menu is $31. Drinks were reasonably priced as well. Drink options are limited to beer, wine and sake. I opted for the standard menu and enjoyed each option that was brought out. I wish I had been hungrier so that I may have tried more options. I will definitely be back!

My husband got me the Omakase to go and I loved it! Presentation is top notched with sauces, sushi, nigiri, salad and sashimi all nicely separated. The fish was very fresh even an hour after. It comes with chopsticks, napkins and instructions for how to enjoy every bite. Only hard part was pacing myself to make the box last!

As soon as you walk inside Tancho, you can notice the ambiance sets the mood for a romantic date night. Service was impeccable even though they are a non-tipping restaurant. We shared the Grand Omakase and added another second sunomono salad, the sea bream nigiri, the unagi nigiri and the baked crab roll from the specials. I had two glasses of the Chardonnay and shared a bottle of sake. I would recommend Tancho to anyone looking for an intimate sushi dinner spot.

This protein to rice ratio is unbelievable

Ordered omakase take out and the freshness was lacking unfortunately. The roll provided was 80% rice 20% yellowtail which was not fresh

Overpriced for supermarket grade sushi. Rice not correctly stick and packed in nigiri pieces, cuts of sushi are thinned out.

Parking for the stores is a quick right turn after driving into the complex. Seating is available both indoors and outside on a shady deck. This is not a large restaurant, but the menu is extensive. Many items are a la carte, but there are also full meals with several included sides. A 2-page lunch menu is at the back of the main menu. We opted for edamame to start, a few skewers of yakitori, and 2 lunch special bento boxes. We were amazed by the amount of food in the lunch bento boxes. On top of that, everything tasted fresh and was obviously freshly prepared. My salmon was way overcooked but the tasty teriyaki sauce made up for it. My daughter's pork looked fabulous and she was very pleased with her choice. I thought that pricing was very reasonable given the quality and portion size. We ended up taking food home. We thoroughly enjoyed our extended lunch and would not hesitate to return.

This time we got a delicious albacore roll, the beef yakisoba again, along with gyoza, and a Chashu Ramen. The waitress was very sweet and brought us a slice of green tea cheesecake, to share, for his birthday. I will say that I would not order the Ramen again. It had absolutely no flavor to the broth, the vegetables were not very tasty, and the pork was extremely fatty to the point where there was just a tiny bit of meat to eat. (In fact, there wasn't very much pork in the soup at all.) Other than that, everything else was delicious!

From the very first sip of that rich, creamy broth, I knew this place was something special. The noodles were perfectly cooked, the pork was tender and flavorful, and every bite felt like comfort in a bowl. Honestly, it's the best ramen I've ever had--and it's not even close. What really sets this place apart is the customer service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and truly make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. The vibe is awesome--lively, clean, and the kind of place you want to sit, relax, and enjoy every minute of your meal. And whatever you do, don't pass up the Spicy Wings. They are sweet, spicy, and perfectly crispy--cooked just right with that satisfying crunch in every bite. Absolutely delicious and the perfect complement to an already amazing meal. Top-notch service, incredible food, and an unbeatable atmosphere--this place is a must-visit.

My first time wasn't too memorable and the second time I got the ultra spicy veggie ramen and it was so spicy I cried (which is good haha i have very high spice tolerance so I'm glad I found a spot that can do truly spicy). This time, I got the deluxe Chicken Paitan DX Ramen (the one that comes with the chicken leg). Chicken Paitan DX Ramen: A sweet soy glazed chicken leg is served on a hot sizzling plate with a small bed of bean sprouts marinating in the sauce. The sauce is a sticky, sweet soy sauce that is so delicious. The chicken leg itself is tender, juicy, and has a great skin texture. The skin soaks up the sauce so well and even has some nice charred bits that add to the flavor and complexity of the dish. The ramen itself was great too. A creamy rich chicken broth. I got the spicy level, so one level under the top spice level and it was perfect. Not unbearably spicy, but had a really nice underlying kick. The noodles are a thin yet snappy noodle so it made it easy to eat. I love the corn and mushroom spirals too! Overall, if you come based on this review, make sure to get the chicken paitan dx ramen. There are only 15 served in a day but ask them if they have it because I was able to get one on a Monday night at around 8PM! It's a nice space, good for a date or even a casual hangout. They have tables to accomodate parties of 1, 2, 4, and possibly 6.

Both of the sandos were perfect. The wagyu beef sando had a little bit more flavor but it was slight and both are worth trying. Every roll was enjoyable and I felt like each had a little twist that really made the flavors explosive, like a shaved onion or a crispy puff on the side of the roll. The service was stellar and they were easy to book on OpenTable I also tried the green tea mocktail and found it to be light and refreshing and I was happy that it wasn't super sweet My two favorite items were: 1. The Edamame - which were charred in a way that I feel like I've never experienced it before and had such great flavor. 2. The scallop roll had a thinly sliced shaved truffle on top that made the roll simple yet out of this world. Shout out to the manager who came by just to check in. I always think that is such a sweet gesture.

Because of the influx of so many amazing new sushi spots opening up in town. I forget to visit my old favorite spots and neglecting tenten was a big mistake. I particularly went there on a Wednesday to try their A5 Wagyu sandwich, but because I hadn't been there in so long, I wanted to have all the rolls that sounded so amazing on the happy hour menu that I couldn't even get to the sandwich. Every single role we had was absolutely off the charts. They even had a Toro role on happy hour for $10 which was such a steal. The service and ambience was also as usual impeccable. Can't wait to come back here to try the sandwich on another Wednesday

It offers the best curated sushi experience with innovative Japanese cuisine and one of the most consistent dining experiences in Austin. I had a reservation to celebrate my birthday. Parking can be a challenge but they do offer a valet service. The entire party must be present before you can be seated. We were seated in the main dining area across from the bar. There was a happy birthday fish card on the table to acknowledge the special occasion that was very thoughtful. We were approached by the staff quickly they pace your dining experience. We could see the bar and in the kitchen area from where we were seated to observe the chefs preparing the dishes. Started the meal with the lychee spritz cocktail with lemongrass, lemon, sparkling wine. It was so light and bubbly and had a decorative flower for a delicate presentation. I ended up ordering two more! We came during happy hour which is available on the weekend and sampled all the happy hour market fish which luckily featured 4 different selections including madai or Japanese sea bream that is my favorite. Tried several other dishes including: *gyudon with wagyu, crispy rice, pomegranate. *grilled romaine hand roll with crab edamame-jalapeño *snow crab gunkan calabrian chili, fried leeks, *broccoli katsu with chili aioli The daily specials are worth exploring, and I always recommend asking your server for guidance. They know the menu well and genuinely elevate the experience. Ordered my regular "go-to" dishes including: *hirame usuzukuri thinly-sliced flounder, candied quinoa, olive oil *ebi shrimp tempura *kabocha japanese pumpkin tempura *zero sen roll yellowtail, avocado, shallot, cilantro The fish quality is exceptional. Fresh, clean, buttery, and beautifully presented. I didn't even start eating sushi until discovering Uchi. The balance of flavors is what stands out most to me. Every dish is thoughtfully curated. I especially appreciate how they layer texture and temperature so each bite feels composed. The best example of this is the biendo roll with tempura shrimp spring roll, nuoc mam, red grape. The grape on top is chilled and it has texture from the crispy shrimp tempura. Their sauces are definitely where it's at and complement each dish exquisitely. I usually hoard all the sauces until the end of the meal. The chef made a special lobster dish with coconut curry, negi dare, cashew that was complementary. The green curry sauce that tasted like Thai tom kha with fresh herbs for a flavor explosion. The server recommended the warm banana cake with chicory, buckwheat, white coffee kahlua ice cream for my birthday dessert. Although I am not a fan of coffee, this dessert was amazing with the perfect balance of sweet and savory and great texture. Uchi manages to feel refined but still warm and inviting. It's a place I return to for celebrations, but also when I just want a meal that feels thoughtfully executed from start to finish.
