I'm very skeptical about the quality of all-you-can-eat sushi so I visited Machi Sushi with a bit of trepidation. I need not have worried however as this restaurant serves up some quite delicious sushi and Japanese cooked entrees. Located inside the Aidan Hotel, you won't have trouble locating the building-just look for the bright yellow Transformer sculpture out front. The hotel is renovated with a cool mid-century vibe while the restaurant dining room is spacious and comfortable sporting an Asian theme. The menu features sushi rolls, sashimi, and cooked items such as gyoza. The table service is outstanding. As soon as you order your items the kitchen staff is bringing it out to you in literally three to four minutes. The fish is super fresh, a key to quality with Japanese food. The Tokyo roll and cowboy roll were my favorites along with the shumai (steamed dumpling) and gyoza. Not everything was great though-the fried calamari could be used to play ring toss-and there was a certain lack of refinement that you might expect from a Japanese chef. Machi Sushi is a spot I've been to a few times now, and I've consistently had a great experience. There's usually a waitlist, one time I waited up to an hour, but it's honestly worth it. While you wait, you can grab a seat at the bar and order drinks, which makes the time go by a lot faster and sets a nice, relaxed vibe before you're seated. The sushi itself is really solid quality, especially for an all you can eat spot. I usually go for nigiri, and the fish always tastes fresh with a great fish to rice ratio. Came for the Friday lunch all you can eat and it was pretty much exactly what I expected. $25 for all you can eat is a solid deal, especially in Austin. Food wise, it was above average for AYCE sushi. Definitely not high end, but it had everything I wanted and hit the spot. This place exceeded my expectations. First of all, it was an odd location and it's inside a hotel. I parked on the right side of the hotel door but park on the left side and you can either go through the hotel or the side door on the side. The quality of the sushi surprised me given its location. We got a bunch of sashimi, hamachi appetizer, skinny girl roll, Godzilla roll, and a spicy tuna roll. We got the hamachi 2x because it was so good. I thought the skinny girl roll was good until I tried the Godzilla roll. The Godzilla roll sounds weird but it ended up being one of our favorites. I highly recommend the Godzilla roll. Who knew all you could eat sushi could be so good! We came in on a Friday night around 7:15pn and the wait was 25-30 min. By the time we were sat it jumped to 45-50! Yikes! This is placated next to the Aiden hotel and you can access via that. Parking was a bit far in the back of the hotel and very tight. Be cautious when driving. We stayed at the Aiden hotel that just happens to be attached to this sushi restaurant so he had to stop by. We were able to get in right away on a Saturday evening, and there were lots of tables available. We decided not to have the all you can eat and we just ordered à la carte. But everything was great. We tried the shaggy dog roll, the Machi roll, and I got the chicken teriyaki bento box. Also they have some happy hour options and I got the mango margarita. It was good but not strong. read more

My wife and I stopped here for a spontaneous date night while in Austin to pick up a friend's car. I'll be honest, I was a little skeptical walking in, but I was pleasantly surprised. What makes Machi Sushi stand out from the other AYCE sushi restaurants in Austin? Is it the super cute decor inside? Or maybe the labubu claw machine? Haha those are just cute things I liked, but actually I think it's the level of service and food quality & variety. The workers were so kind and helpful. Everything came out FAST. I talked with a friend who went there before and he mentioned the same thing. I've been to some AYCE restaurants where they charge you or limit you on nigiri/sashimi. Here, it's included! The only thing you would have to pay extra is bubble tea or cocktails. I love the variety of the menu. Some things were better than others but that's just a personal preference. Machi Sushi was located about 30 minutes away from our Airbnb in Manor. It was a bit out of the way, but most restaurants were out of the way given where we were staying. It is a pretty big space and had lots of parking. The big appeal for my boyfriend and I's visit was to do All You Can Eat. Since we were here on a Saturday, it was priced $35.95 per person. We were seated right away once we walked in. The table we were seated out was a little chilly. The air conditioning was on a little high. Our waitress was friendly and helpful with taking our orders. For $35.95 per person, the fish quality was not as good as we expected. It could have better, but some of the nigiris just didn't taste right to us. It didn't appear that fresh either. The rolls were a bit better. The ice creams tasted very similar to one another. The only flavor that was distinct was chocolate. The fried ice cream was horrible. It wasn't executed properly. Machi Sushi is a sensory explosion - my senses were on overdrive when I walked in. First, sight - the restaurant had a ceiling full of cherry blossoms and red dragons up front. Second, sound was oozing out the restaurant has it was a massive number of folks dining at the restaurant. The part of the restaurant that connected to the Aiden Hotel had at a full seated area with folks also standing. You can also enter from the other side of the restaurant, which had no seats with everyone standing. I do not know what the seating capacity of the restaurant, however, it was at full capacity. My Yelp friends arrived earlier with a projected 25 minute wait. I arrived just when we were being seated. Third, the restaurant reeked of intoxicating smells...making you highly anticipate the meal. Fourth, I touched one of the many flags displayed through out the restaurants, which were hung like papel picado like in a Mexican restaurant but with no holes. Fifth, the taste of the food was quite good...more on that later. Machi Sushi is located on IH-35 South connecting to the Aiden Hotel. It is an all you can eat sushi buffet. Once we were seated we ordered our first set of sushi - for me the 1) Shaggy Dog roll and 2) Machi Crunchy roll...two of the most popular rolls. Of all the food I ate, the Shaggy Dog roll was my favorite. I also ordered spicey edamame...so tasty! My next roll was the cowboy roll along with the teriyaki shrimp and calamari. The shrimp was good but I did not like the calamari at all (to rubbery with lots of breading). We ended our meal with dessert. I ordered the tempura Oreo and green tea ice cream. I had no idea how the fried Oreo dessert was going to turn. It was good...think small puffed pastry where the Oreo inside is soft. The green tea ice cream was amazing...flavorful and smooth with subtle green tea taste...my favorite dish. In addition, I had a lemon drop martini, which was strong yet good. I decided to exit on the same side that friends entered on, where there were two massively large transforms...so super cool. After close to 1 year later, we decided to come back to give Machi Sushi another try. One of our family members wanted to try Machi Sushi so despite of our previous terrible experience we came to eat during a Thursday for lunch. Service was 1000% better than our first experience. Our waiter Shavel was great. Food came out fast. The establishment was 55% full. We came at 12:30pm. No wait. Lunch cost is $24.95 (limited menu) and dinner is $35.95. (Larger selections) We ordered: White tuna nigiri: 3/5 ok yellow tail nigiri: 2/5 red snapper nigiri: 2/5 mackerel nigiri: 0/5 super fishy definitely not fresh tuna nigiri: 3/5 ok eel unagi nigiri: 3/5 on the sweeter side and unagi cut was super thin. salmon nigiri: 1/5 fishy not fresh. pepper tuna nigiri: 4/5 All nigiri the rice was well seasoned and the rice portion was appropriate size (small) (not excessive rice. Nigiri rice did fall a part when picking up with chop sticks. Skinny girl roll: 4/5 tasty. Very little rice and the spicy tuna was good. Pepper tuna on top had a bite of pepper. Overall decent. Dragon roll: 3/5: decent. Very thin slices salmon and the shrimp tempura was thick. They stuffed with a lot of cucumber inside. It needed spicy Mayo sauce because the eel sauce was too sweet. Wings: 4/5 crispy wings and juicy. Hint of five spice and probably the only thing I liked. Red bean ice cream: 1/5 It was on the sweeter side. There were pieces of red bean but I do not taste the flavor red bean in it. The color was off putting. It was grey. Green tea ice cream: 0/5 it was bitter and uneatable. I've never had green tea ice cream so bitter. Overall experience, service got way better. There was 5 sushi chef making rolls which made service fast. Interior is beautiful with the ceiling decor. It's definitely a Vibe. Sushi is meh and not phenomenal but if you want a AYCE with options it's best to come for dinner one because you get way more options which I think is worth it. Would I recommend this place? I'm on the fence 40/60. We are planning to come back during dinner and see if service is still the same and with more option if we would like more options. read more

My roommate and I were craving sushi, and we had been talking about finding a new all you can eat sushi restaurant as we moved away from our hometown. We decided to eat at Machi Sushi and we have decided that it's our new spot immediately after. The food was fresh, and you can tell it was made per order. The service was quick, and we never went without a refill or someone checking in just to make sure we were doing alright. The portions were large and extremely filling. By the end of the meal I practically needed to change into sweatpants immediately. The inside was clean, and the vibes were all you could ask for. Outside the restaraunt you're greeted by a statue of Bumblebee, which was a funny surprise, but inside you're truly transported. Had I been writing this review months ago it would have been a 5 - but unfortunately, it seems like every time I come back, the quality gets worse and worse. I came for lunch and ordered yellowtail and salmon nigiri, a salmon and avocado hand roll, and a Philly roll. (Also crab Rangoon, beef fried rice, and green tea ice cream but this review really is for my sushi) The salmon nigiri tasted odd, so I thought it was a one off (I only ate 1 of 3) but after one bite of the the salmon hand roll I almost gagged from how fishy the taste was. The smoked salmon and yellowtail were fine but I do not think the salmon was as fresh as it should have been. I personally love salmon so that was really disappointing. My service was excellent and I have no complaints there. After my visit, I checked the health department score and it did drop between the few months they did their visits, so I wonder if there is a correlation there. Will probably be taking a long hiatus and hope that the quality returns to what it was when Machi first opened. read more

This place is AYCE and had a large menu list of sushi on order, rather than buffet style. The first order we went kinda crazy. Still managed to eat it all but that definitely lowered the four or five orders down to two or three. We got some yakitori, hamachi, takoyaki, tempura as starters. Then for the sushi, some of the highlights were the dragon roll, volcano roll (has cheetos on top), cowboy roll, and a TON of nigiri. Doesn't have the highest quality nigiri, but still satisfied the taste buds. THE FINAL BAMBOO: We came during lunch hours which has a cheaper price, however we wanted the full menu and got hte dinner price which was around $36pp. Worth it. We have tried a number of ayce sushi restaurants in the austin area and this rates at the top. We had 4 adults, an infant and my 10yo. My 10yo ordered a Bento box because she's a picky eater. They didn't give us any problems about that and she was able to take the leftovers home. They even accommodated by giving her more rice instead of a salad or soup. We ordered almost all the raw specialty rolls except the rainbow roll. Everyone agreed that the Skinny Roll was our favorite. The pepper tuna was really good. All the fish was very fresh. We had mixed reviews on the calamari and the shrimp tempura with 2 votes for each. The crab rangoons well filled. The chicken wings were piping hot. It was lots of movement. My parents love Ahi Sashimi and so I asked for 40 slices of it and possibly two times. It was my Mom's birthday and this was something I wanted them to have for an early dinner. We tried some potstickers, shrimp and vegetables tempura, some mussels, seafood soup and more.
