Each skewer is just a few bites. Unless you have money to burn, I would recommend not showing up hungry. However, if you brought your appetite prepare to enjoy the evening! There are so many tidbits to try and everything we did order was juicy and flavorful and interesting. I would go back just for the ube tiramisu, but also for the salmon nigiri, hokkaido uni, and tsukune. Even the drinks were delicious (the ILY So Matcha was a beautiful take on an alcoholic matcha drink). Plenty of seating when we arrived early evening on a weekend night but the place started to get busier after 7:30PM.

Our biggest issue was that we were seated at 8:15 and told half an hour later that they were closing an hour early and enforcing last call. Beyond that, they were gracious as could be given a staff that was making good on what they said and mostly minding their closing duties. The menu here is good, not great, and the prices are all over the place. The alcohol offering is most dissatisfying, the portions paltry, and the off-menu ube-misu was barely good enough to make up for the loss.

For outdoor seating you have to order everything at the bar and they will bring the food to your table. So there is no table service other than that. It was still great though we got everything we need and the food came out in good timing. The drinks were really fun and I really liked the cold foam on the beer! Definitely must try! The appetizers were not that good I would skip. The miso ramen though, was AMAZING!! The broth is so rich and creamy. The noodles were also really good at picking up the broth. Definitely impressed with the ramen here. Overall, this is one of my favorite ramen spots in Austin and would love to come back soon!

Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. #5 Tsukemen/Dipping Broth ($16.50): The dipping broth wasn't umami enough to hold up as a true dipping broth, so we ended up pouring it over our noodles and eating it like a regular ramen bowl. The flavors were really good and better than the MI-SO-HOT. The only complaint about the broth was that it wasn't warm or hot. The noodles were bouncy and thick like udon, which I loved. They only gave one slice of chashu, which was disappointing, so I'm glad we added the extra Goma Pork/Sesame Seasoned Ground Pork ($2.50) and Naruto Maki ($1.50). Chashu Rice Bowl ($8.50): Good, but not as flavorful or melt-in-your-mouth as last time. #4 MI-SO-HOT (Tonkotsu) ($16): My cousin got this and it was actually bulked out with veggies. It was good, but the flavors weren't anything standout. Not super spicy either, so the heat is very tolerable.

Please note that Sa-Tén is in an industrial-style complex and can be easily missed. The anchor point is a large green Canopy sign. After circling a few times, my friend and I started to meet at Stargazer instead for coffee. After having coffee at Stargazer, we decided to grab breakfast "to-go" at Sa-Tén as my Art contest start time was nearing. It is literally diagonally across the street from Stargazer. Sa-Tén means "coffee lounge" or "café" in Japanese. It traditionally refers to a relaxed neighborhood coffee shop...a place meant to be a welcoming community space. The coffee shop is small with wraparound glass windows emitting an abundance of light. Sa-Tén's interior is unassuming...really non-distinct. My friend ordered the last salmon toast, however, since she had previously tried it, she allowed me to have the last one. Such a thoughtful and kind friend...she ordered the bacon, egg and cheese toast instead. Let me just say this salmon toast was the bomb diggity. Our server described this breakfast item as salmon on white toast...what a major understatement! Our toast was even larger than Texas toast with a brioche taste and perfectly toasted. Quite honestly, I could have just eaten the toast all by itself. The salmon and cheese enhanced the taste. What a spectacular discovery! My friend was pleased with her selection as well. I will seek out Sa Tén when I'm on the East Side again.

I came here also because I had a deal from the AACHI fundraiser they are doing this month. Ordered the Spicy Salmon toast and the Egg, Bacon, and Sausage toast. Both were amazing and had tons of flavor. The bread is soft and fluffy. I also got a plate with Chicken Kara-age. Not too bad, I personally would stick to the Katsu. The Chicken Kara-age was not as crispy as I would like it. Also got royal milk tea, which was lightly sweetened. This place does get packed, so if you like to try this place, avoid the right before noon crowd or go early morning or later in the afternoon. The restaurant itself is small, but they do have some outdoor tables as well. The hard part about sitting outside is if you order drinks, I don't know if you can hear your name being yelled out while you are outside, so I would suggest having someone inside to grab your drink if you order any or check inside after a while to see if your drinks are ready.

Sunday evening wasn't too busy and we were able to have the entire seating facing the window to ourselves. You order off a small menu or choose the omakase. They also have specials for the day. We ordered one nigiri of most of the options and it was a mixed experience in taste and quality. The salmon, tuna, hamachi, and albacore had top notch smooth and buttery textures. The flavors were good, not fishy, but fresh and delicious. The amount of wasabi was perfect for me - very up front and tasted like real wasabi. The rice was nice and vinegared, held together well, and was a good amount for the piece of fish on top. Unfortunately the uni was awful. It tasted like it had soaked up the flavor of the box. It tasted stale and had a very unpleasant and lingering aftertaste. The Wagyu was very chewy and not as pleasant to eat as I would have expected from a Wagyu. Prices are a bit high to go back again for this level of quality and experience, but some of the sushi pieces were a very nice mouthful.

Both of the sandos were perfect. The wagyu beef sando had a little bit more flavor but it was slight and both are worth trying. Every roll was enjoyable and I felt like each had a little twist that really made the flavors explosive, like a shaved onion or a crispy puff on the side of the roll. The service was stellar and they were easy to book on OpenTable I also tried the green tea mocktail and found it to be light and refreshing and I was happy that it wasn't super sweet My two favorite items were: 1. The Edamame - which were charred in a way that I feel like I've never experienced it before and had such great flavor. 2. The scallop roll had a thinly sliced shaved truffle on top that made the roll simple yet out of this world. Shout out to the manager who came by just to check in. The intimate, speakeasy setting is such a vibe! Hidden behind a bookcase tucked away in Holey Moley, Chef Saine and his small team bring you an incredible 14-course experience with top-tier ingredients sourced directly from local farmers in Japan. With only 6 seats per session, this is a cozy experience and one I definitely could not recommend more. QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Yes, located in East Austin, there is plenty of street parking. - Reservations can be tricky to land, but you can grab weeknight ones if you're flexible. - Pricing is about $170/person, with the option to add on drinks and extra bites (3 extra for $45/person). Tax and tip not included. My favorite bites were the maguro blue fin (an incredible start to the night!), the buttery Kanpachi amberjack, and the Wagyu ribeye with salted egg yolk (steak and eggs). Everything is stellar, and the Belgium chocolate ice cream finish with a little serenading from Chef is a great way to wrap up the experience. Service is top notch!
