Unlike other locations, the UT branch is huge miss for me. Closer to a self-serve set up, service is very impersonable. During our entire visit, none of the staff members asked about our dining experience. what actually makes this place a true disappointment is the food.... unfortunately. Madam Mam' did not pass along her recipe well to the kitchen staff or it was lost due to complacency in culinary practice and choices. All dishes were excessive in sweetness level beyond the norm. Questionable as to whether kitchen staff actually taste the food they produce prior to serving it. Otherwise, there still plenty of seating inside and outside. The patio could offer a nice seating alternative during cooler times of the year. Its relatively low noise, good to have conversations. **Papaya Salad: Was drowning in dressing/ fish sauce (see 2nd photo). This overwhelms the subtle papaya flavor. The salad becomes a heavy flavor bomb instead of a refreshing palate cleanser starter that it was traditionally designed to be. ** NS 14 Guay Teaw Tom Yum Noodle Soup One of the highest spice level at Baseline per the menu, but was incredibly underwhelming in spice level by far ( I'm a very weak spice consumer to begin with). The broth was overly sweet and sugary, as with all of the other dishes. I did enjoy the slices of beef in the zoo. They were moist and felt fresh. ** Crab Fried Rice Not only was this lacking in amounts of crappy, it was seasoned very unevenly. You would get pockets of salt in some bites, and mellow in others. Very disappointing for a premium item. ** Pad See Ew This location uses the wrong type of flat noodle. They repurposed the same noodle they use for their noodle soup dish into Pad See Ew that normally calls for cut up sheets of flat noodles that should have been seared in a high heat wok. This was definitely not the case. Additionally, the soy sauce used as the base of the dish was very off-putting, reminiscent of the kikomon brand soy sauce, in addition to being overly sugary sweetened. ** Pad Thai Noodle This is a dish that is typically hard to do wrong, but once again, the kitchen staff has deviated from her intended recipe. Its also on the sweeter note, could use peanuts that were missing entirely. It's also severely lacking in bean sprouts, there were only minimal amounts. read more

Bland food and sticky tables. The food was absolutely bland and flavorless. I had a noodle and seafood dish. The noodles were rubber bands and the seafood was straight out of a frozen food bag. The salad was a head of ice berg lettuce not chopped up with a tomato slice, and onion slice and a smattering if raisons. The raisons were good. The tables are are-all very sticky. The menu Is large but you order up at the register Not good- I've given two start in the hopes that they may turn it around. The place could be good. The idea is good. The execution is awful. I think this Thai place is overall pretty great. It is conveniently located on UT Austin campus as I visited for Halloweekend, and I believe it is a good spot to enjoy Thai food whenever a student craves it. I went with my friend, and we both got Thai Teas. I got the Beef Pad See Ew as my main dish, and my friend got Pad Thai(vegetarian). Unfortunately, they ran out of mango sticky rice which was something we wanted to get. The thai tea is very solid and tastes like one of the better thai teas I've had. The pad see ew took a bit of time compared to the pad thai, but it umami, but it felt really oily. I could taste a strong wok hay, but the texture of the pad see ew was a bit hard like it was slightly undercooked. Although the texture was enjoyable at first, it made it harder to chew. Probably the worst Thai food experience I've ever had... Everything is self service so you have to get all your silverware and plates yourself. But let's talk about the food... major disappointment! The crab fried rice was incredibly salty. The papaya salad did not taste nor look authentic at all. The Pad Thai was alright actually. NS14 was probably my favorite dish. The broth was flavorful and I liked the chewy noodles. The worst thing I had however was the pad see ew. This is one of my favorites to order but it tasted way too much like kikkoman soy sauce which is my least favorite soy sauce brand of all time. I couldn't detect any other flavors besides the soy sauce and they used different noodles from what you would typically find in your usual pad see ew dish. Service is always quick and friendly and the space is unassuming and large enough to seat big parties. The Brussels Sprout is a really nice appetizer that is the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. The Pad Thai is great; a huge portion (at least two meals) for an affordable price. I have done many takeouts from this Madam Mam's location. Parking here is a hassle and often time limited. I don't usually want to risk it. Several times, I have to park illegally and bring someone to fetch the food while I wait in the car. Online ordering could be better. They don't usually tell you when the food is ready like some other places that even text you. They just give you an estimate. But.... food here is always good. The last time we ate here was 2 years ago and the experience was night and day. Firstly, the restaurant is almost fully self-serve now. You have to grab your own menu, fill your own water, and order up front. The only time we interacted was when they brought out our food. I don't think it was fair to tip 20% when we did almost everything ourselves. The food wasn't very good either, we got the same dishes we had 2 years ago and were met with disappointment. I ordered the Tom Kha soup and the mushrooms were super dirty, I could tell they were unwashed when cut and put in the soup because just rubbing them with my spoon got some of the dirt off and it tasted like granules of sand, crunchy. There was also 2 pieces of plastic, seemingly from a clothing tag or something in the soup which I did not notice until reheating the leftovers. The ambiance was ruined for us due to all the inconsistencies, we were expecting a better experience like we had a couple years ago. Honestly don't know what happened to this place because it used to be super good but we won't come back because I don't want to get sick eating unwashed veggies. :( After writing this review, I found another piece of plastic in my food and attatched the image. I've been a huge fan of Madam Mam's for years and have always gotten the same thing from the same location (tofu pad sea ew, level 2 spicy, for pickup). It was always delicious, but this past year it's become disappointing. They've stopped putting in egg entirely (even though on the menu it says it comes with egg), the fried tofu is now watery/not pressed enough, and sometimes there's barely any sauce. The spice level has also started to vary a lot, but I get that that can't always be helped. There's just a lack of care for what used to make Madam Mam's pad sea-ew so delicious. I usually cannot recommend this restaurant enough, maybe eating in restaurant or ordering at other locations the quality is more consistent. read more

I ordered take and got the pork basil fried rice they use ground pork very disappointing. Not only that but it was very oily and didn't have much flavor not Thai basil. I opened the container the following day and there was oil just pooled in the container. Also gave me food poisoning possible bc of the amount of oil. The noodles were thick for a pad thai dish, way too hard and undercooked, and the overall meal was too sweet and lacked the tangy, sweet-spicy flavor pad thai usually has. Let me preface this by saying my GF and I love Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese food. The Spicier the better. We have gotten pretty good at creating Chinese WOK Stir Fry's from various online recipe's and know our way around the Asian grocery stores here (H-Mart, Ranch 99, MT Supermarket). We rarely go out for this type of food because frankly food costs to eat out are out of control and what we can make ourselves is really good. BUT sometimes on a Saturday Night you just don't feel like cooking. So last night we were craving some spicy Thai and decided to get take out at Madam Mam's. Ordered at the W 26th UT Campus spot picked up got home and what a wreck. We got 2 orders online both asking for spice level 5 of 5: P15 Pad Prik Thai Dum P24 Pad Prik Pao WOW there was absolutely zero heat and all the veggies were overcooked and there was really no difference between the taste of each one. It was NOT good. And the rice was way overcooked and Gummy. $35 for 2 crappy entrees. Never again! read more

Went to Madam Mam's for a date on a recommendation from a friend. I got the beef Pad Thai and my girlfriend got the Shrimp Drunken Noodle. My Pad Thai looked like a thick spaghetti and I was not really impressed with the taste. It has been a while since I've had pad Thai though so I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt that it was an off night. My girlfriends drunken noodle was nice and flavorful and decently spicy. The best Thai food on campus. This is my home restaurant since my first day at UT. It brings me back so much memories - literally the perfect place to have quick lunch, friends gathering, or a study pit stop (well depends) I would just go to buy myself a quick drink. I've bought Pad Kee Mao, Pad Woo Sen, Pad See Ew, Pad Thai, Thai Coffee, and all their appetizers. So far, Pad See Ew is the best plate for me when it comes to spicy filling noddles. OMG, this Madam Mams location has the best food and best portions. Our server was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu, they helped us pick out the plates. We ordered the recommendations, and they did not disappoint at all. We ordered the NS16 Kao Soi and F13 Bankrupt Noodles. The Kao Soi was a very big plate, very heavy, so if you like to eat a lot, or have enough leftovers to take home, this is a plate for you. The bankrupt noodles were to die for, I am in love with this plate and will definitely be coming back to order it again. Best thing on the menu, hands-down. I honestly don't know why this place has so many bad reviews. I've been here a few times during my past 3 years at UT and every time the food has been great. I usually order the F3 pad sea ew, the F1 pad thai, and/or the p61 crab fried rice. It is a bit on the pricier side, but the portions are massive. They don't take their spice lightly so if you get their fried rice or noodles I would get the lower spice levels.
