Dee Dee is now located in a gorgeous third place where there are other bites available and a coffee/drinks place. A perfect spot to catch up with friends and also to be productive! Our favorite dish was the Pad Ka Pow, which was flavorful and delicious. I loved all the components of the dish and it went well with the rice. The Thai fried chicken was also delicious! It was a disappointing experience in Dee Dee. The location itself is gorgeous. They have a beautiful garden area that has river and is surrounded by other food trucks. It looks very nice at night. I have ordered pad kapow which costs $17. My egg was 50% overcooked and on the smaller side. The pork was dry and a bit bland. It was also unevenly seasoned with salt. Jasmine rice and what I believe is basil tasted quite good though, but the whole dish itself was incredibly dry. We ordered online ahead of arriving in case there was a wait but it ended up not taking very long fortunately. The parking at leona is pretty limited so I would come during an off hour. The food is good. I enjoyed the pad kaprow and the fried chicken as well as the dessert. Dee Dee Austin at Feona is such a gem! Dogs are welcome, and the staff is super friendly--instant good vibes the second you walk in. The fried chicken sticky rice? WOW. The chicken is perfectly crispy, the sticky rice is rich and comforting, and together it's basically a little bite of heaven. I tried to just have a few bites...spoiler: the plate was gone before I knew it. And the dumplings oh my gosh. Now that they've found a permanent home at Leona Botanical Café & Bar in Sunset Valley, it feels like a full-circle moment. The expanded menu is incredible while keeping all the favorites that made Dee Dee an Austin staple. My go-to will always be the Pad KaPow. Spicy, savory perfection. I told a friend recently that this dish is Austin to me, and it's the reason I keep coming back. Still the best anywhere. We also tried a few new items this visit: - Thai Fried Chicken: beautifully tender and seasoned, with that perfect balance of Thai chili hot honey and pickled lemongrass. It just hits right. - Pork Dumplings: juicy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the house-made soy sauce. A solid addition to the lineup. And of course, no trip is complete without their Papaya Salad, my wife's favorite anywhere. The team always packs it perfectly for my flight back to LA because if I come home without it, it's considered a failed trip. Tasty casual location! Make sure to preorder ahead of time. I ordered around noon for a 7pm pickup, and I got a text a few minutes before pickup time that my food was ready! Pad KaPow: reading the reviews and the "very spicy" caption on the menu cautioned me to order the mild version. I thought it could've been more spicy to be honest, so maybe should've stuck to the original. But it was delicious, flavorful, and a unique dish! I liked the combination of the basil and minced pork, which packed a flavorful punch. Gaeng Daeng (Red Curry): what a generous portion! We were worried it would not come with rice, but there was a fat portion packed separately with it. The curry was a manageable spice with lots of squash. Wish they had more meat in it though! Mango sticky rice: Generous potion of mango on top of the deliciously sweet rice. This was my favorite dish, even as a savory person. The first time we went, we waited over an hour since we had no idea how busy they'd be, but the food was totally worth it. Food truck serving country-style northeastern Thai food. They only take online orders, and they advise you to pre-order well ahead of time due to long wait times. That way you can choose your desired pick up time. The first order we placed was for Pad KaProw and the Gaeng Daeng. Their mango stick rice was "sold out" earlier in the day when we placed our first order, but when we checked back later it was back in stock and we were able to order it for the same pickup time. The Pad KaProw consists of spicy minced pork, jasmine rice, cucumber, a fried egg, and fried basil, and it comes with a spicy dipping sauce on the side (nam pla prik). The Gaeng Daeng is a spicy red curry with chicken, eggplant, melon squash, basil, and it comes with a generous side of jasmine rice. My overall thought for both the Pad KaProw and the Gaeng Daeng was: SO SPICY. Too spicy for my taste, and it made the dishes inedible. To be fair, they let you choose your spice level, and we stuck with the "normal" spice level, so this was our mistake. I would highly advise choosing the lowest spice level the first time. Luckily, the experience was saved by the mango sticky rice. This is a wonderful dessert that consists of a huge, ripe, delicious mango, sitting on a bed of coconut milk sticky rice, with a coconut milk sauce on the side. It saddens me that this dessert is seasonal, because it was perfect. Get it while the mangos are in season! Parking is tricky. They have a few parking spots in the front, and a small parking lot in the back. It was busy during the week, so I imagine it's pretty hard to find parking on weekends. read more

I ordered Pad KaPow (normal spicy) and mango sticky rice. The pad kapow was pretty good - very flavorful with a mix of salty, citrusy, and spicy. I just wish it had more vegetables (or more cucumber in this case) but that's just coming from someone who loves vegetables. The mango sticky rice was quite good. In my experience getting takeout mango sticky rice from various Thai restaurants, it's never that great, so I was pleasantly surprised by it from Dee Dee. The rice was super sticky, as expected, and the mangos were soft and sweet. Do I wish there was more sauce in the cup? Maybe, but it's not a huge deal. Dee Dee is in a small food truck park outside Radio, and it looked like there was parking on either side of the park. They do online orders only, which can be placed on their website. When I had looked to place an order around 4:45pm, their website said ASAP would take 70 minutes, but when I went to pick up my food around 6:30, they had a sign outside that said online orders would take 30 minutes, so a little unclear honestly and you may just want to schedule your order, which is what I did, and they were quite timely in having my order ready by the designated time. read more

From the moment I discovered this food truck, I was hooked. At the peak of my obsession, I was ordering takeout at least once a week. If you're a fan of spicy food, this is the place for you. I'll admit, my spice tolerance is pretty low (I can handle just a little), but even the mildest level has me sniffling. Still, the flavors are so incredible that it's worth every fiery bite. The unpopular opinion: not impressed with the Pad KaPow - while savory and filling, not much depth in flavors, and the fried egg gets overcooked very quickly in takeout containers. By comparison, the Gaeng Daeng (red curry) is phenomenal - rich and hearty but still elegantly sweet & not too spicy broth with chicken and vegetables. A VERY good curry. My favorite was the Som Tom (papaya salad) - fresh, crunchy, tart & tangy, could make a nice vegan lunch of it. Really lovely. I'd love to try the skewers but they're often sold out (Order ahead! The wait is long!!) Also closed on Mondays & Tuesdays. Radio is a great hang if you do decide to wait it out, but go early to find the full menu selection. read more

No it's not normal to go to a restaurant and after waiting in line 15 minutes before they open, still waiting 30 minutes more, they are already sold out of items. They close at 9 or when they sell out. This isn't a food truck anymore, figure out how to not sell out. Also, opening whenever you feel like it is absurd. If your website says you open at 4:30 open at 4:30, don't put a paper sign on your window saying you'll open at 5 or 6. I very rarely write Yelp reviews so quickly after my meal but Dee Dee made me so happy that I cannot wait any longer! I'm a Thai food n00b only having "authentic" dishes stateside a handful of times outside of the typical curries and noodle dishes. Most of them have been quite muted likely to suit a wider audience. Dee Dee was a very much welcomed explosion of flavors. My husband and I ordered the laab moo (regular spice), moo ping (pork skewers), and mango sticky rice. We really wanted to order the entire menu but between the two of us, it would've been quite a feat. The laab moo (northern Thai style): omg each bite was a mini delectable flavor explosion - meaty, spicy, savory, vinegary with herbal undertones - paired perfectly with a fried egg and sticky rice. Moo ping pork skewers: So tender and flavorful! The sauce that accompanied the skewers made it very refreshing. Mango sticky rice: ok this was the best mango sticky rice we've ever had and it's not even close. The quality and abundance of insanely ripe mangos...I mean look at my photos. I've only had two things on the menu: the pad krapow and the tofu stir fry. the pad krapow is literally one the tastiest dishes ive ever had. its insanely good. however, its so spicy, that even the mildest spice level leaves me with some 'gastro distress' after the meal. the pleasure is worth the pain, but only once in a while. I wish they would offer a 'white person spicy' version of this. I've also had the tofu stir fry. this isn't spicy, and is very healthy!! not as tasty as pad krapow, but quite good. my problem with the stir fry, is there isn't enough protein for it to be a complete meal. I wish they offered a higher protein version of the stir fry (ie chicken or beef options instead of just tofu). Walked right up to the truck, picked up our order, and found a place to sit and eat. I tried the Pad KaPow with the spice level at "Normal =Thai Spicy", and the Som Tom (papaya salad) at the standard spice level as well. It was so good! I feel like you can tell if a Thai place is authentic based on the spiciness of the food. The standard spice was definitely a good spice level for me! The Pad KaPow was my favorite for the night. DD is a place that Barbi used to like, but she's into bigger things these days like GG, HH, and that's fine with me. But Dee Dee on the other hand, not to be confused with DeeDee Riese's (a popular cookie shop in Los Angeles) is a spectacular Thai truck, which sometimes has long waits, depending on how busy it is, and always has pretty high prices - but then it's a food truck in Austin, so you kind of expect that. Their food is definitely excellent, which explains the very high ratings, and I think there are quite a lot of overrated trucks around here, but this is one of the better ones. It doesn't quite match up to some of the Thai food from some of my favourite places, but I would still highly recommend it to fans of Thai food and fans of food trucks. But if you haven't had much experience with this, then this isn't the first place I would send you, and there are some of places in Houston (Asia Market on Main, Nara Express near Downtown) that are far superior. read more

Mixing the runny egg with the rice and seasoned ground meat creates this this fluffy rice concoction that you won't want to stop shoveling into your gullet. Top this with the spicy little side of sauce it comes with... and you'll be stuck in a loophole, only eating pad ka prow for breakfast, lunch, and dinner... day after day... like I did.
