What a special find! I can't recommend this place enough. We came really early on a Saturday morning and went on the guided hike of the property. They have an assortment of the Texas native plants labeled along the walk. It was a fairly easy walk. Some of it required good shoes because it is the Hill Country, of course. We didn't see the miniature donkeys or the llamas while we were walking, but they were all back in the pen near the bar and the seating area. So they gave us some feed to give the llamas. Everyone was just so friendly and kind. They put a great deal of thought into every aspect of the Shady Llama. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have many different seating areas, all of which have a nice view over the hills - nice breezy location.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have different food trucks, but they also have some snacks, like a charcuterie box. They have a variety of different drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. They allow you to bring your own food, but not your own drinks. They have a variety of events, like craft nights. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have hammocks! Heaven. Just heaven[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I can't wait to go back.
If I lived near Wimberley I would visit more often just for the joy of petting and feeding these wonderful creatures frequently. I've always loved llamas. The staff were super friendly. Abby was so sweet and made our visit that much nicer! Be sure and ask for food for the llamas. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everyone in the family had fun out here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After spending time interacting with the llamas we just hung out and played board games, they have a bunch to choose from. Food truck had great, reasonably priced options. I had the Vietnamese Rice Bowl for $13, and a wanted a whole other one! Carl was amazing. I'm not a beer drinker, but he was super friendly, and educated me on my options and I loved them all. It was such a vibe, and I was happy that I was able to bring my kid with me to get him out of the house.
This was the first place we checked out when we arrived to our Wimberley weekend trip. We stopped by to enjoy a few drinks and maybe get some food. They have beer on tap, sangria and wine. Wine prices are a little steep. Stick with beer. The area is nice. It's spacious. Lots of room to spread out. There's plenty of seating. Children and dog friendly. They have llamas, but sometimes you won't be able to see them. Their property is large and they roam the property. You will definitely see a beautiful sunset from the property. They do have a few food trucks for food. Parking is available on site. Restrooms are available and clean. All seating is outside.
Mark your calendar for a visit to the Shady Llama! This is a wonderful family owned beer garden that offers a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a beautiful sunset, feed a llama, or watch the donkeys meander up the hillside. They don't make any of their beer, cider, or wine - but their rotation is always from Texas companies and the staff are very knowledgeable! I don't usually think about this place for a wine night it feels more "masculine, college causal, or kids playing" depending on when you visit. But next time I will try some wine and pick a spot to enjoy a romantic sunset. It would be nice to have a kid free wine night with some nice music. Trivia is on Thursday nights - the manager is very nice and does a good job but imho it could be more interactive and entertaining. It is your standard "read the questions kind of thing" and I think themed trivia is much more fun! With daylight savings trivia is now at 7:00 pm so it makes it a little easier to get there after work. There are 2 food trucks on site but it would be nice to have different food trucks rotate through or have the bar offer a variety of snacks. Definitely check IG for updates about music, hours, etc - but they do not answer questions from social media. And they don't really post updates to their website that often. Parking is Extremely limited on the weekends so be prepared. If the lot is full go down the road a couple of minutes to Ghost Note Brewing - they are a family owned beer garden as well but have much more parking. Very different styles but both are great and worth the trip! I would say the major drawback is they close very early. Just when the temp's finally cool off it is time to go! Please show your support for them to stay open later so we can enjoy the hill country breezes and not feel rushed. It would be nice to be able to schedule a "feeding" with the animals bc I have been a dozen times and have never gotten to give them a snack! The bathrooms are very clean but on busy days you might get stuck with a porta potty if you can't wait Overall a very relaxing atmosphere and something good is always on tap! I highly recommend the City Orchard ciders. Let me know what you enjoy most about your visit. Cheers
We decided to checkout the shady llama yesterday after meeting for drinks in downtown Wimberley. It was nice to get away from the crowds and traffic and I really enjoyed our time at the llama. They have a huge fenced area past the seating area where the llamas roam as well as a fenced in kids play area near the parking lot. As someone who doesn't have kids, I appreciated not hearing screaming children during our visit. They have about a half dozen fire pits with chairs surrounding them and also a bunch of picnic tables with canopies. I'm not sure there is a better sunset spot in the area and we definitely enjoying watching it. For drinks, they have a solid selection of craft beer, as well as wine and recent made mulled wine, which was our favorite since it was a tad chilly out in the shade. They have different food truck options and we got the banh mi. It was good and overall the food was decent but likely not worth the visit on its own.

The Shady Llama is a great place to go check out! [[HIGHLIGHT]]This Beer Garden is located outside of Austin in Hill Country.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When we were poking around looking for breweries in the area on Yelp we came across The Shady Llama! This place doesn't make their own beer but they have lots of guest taps for breweries in the surrounding area. It's a good variety of beers to choose from and it looks like there is at least one food truck available sometimes in case you get hungry. The main draw for why we came here was to see the llamas and indeed we dis see some. One of them gave us some attitude and then sauntered off down a hill, taking it's less moody companion with it. They were funny and with the attitude I got and the name of the place I posted the Eminem song "My Name Is" where the lyrics "Slim Shady" get mentioned on Instagram because I thought it was all quite fitting. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In addition to seeing the llamas we saw a great view of Hill Country.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was a lot of seating when we were here and could pick pretty much anywhere we wanted to sit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But I'm sure the place can get busy... the location and those llamas are reason enough. I've wanted to come to Shady Llama for years, and we finally made it out yesterday. I am so disappointed in myself for not coming all the time before this, because Shady Llama is EXCELLENT! First, the staff members are very friendly and know everything there is to know about their available wine and brews. I love that almost all (if not all) are local sips - it's really great to see all of these different places in Wimberley/Dripping Springs/Spicewood support each other. Just another reason why I love Hill Country! When I saw Lazarus Rice Lager and St. Elmo, my gluten free heart skipped a beat, because both of those brews have been treated with the enzyme that makes the brews (normally) OK for those who are gluten sensitive but not for those with celiacs. I don't miss beer, but those two brews are too delicious to pass up when I see them on tap! We also tried the Spicewood wine flight, which was one of the best wine flights I've ever had, and I cannot wait to go buy bottles of each to bring home. All 3 were delicious, crisp, robust, and beautifully paired with each other in the flight. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The views were beautiful. Beautiful is honestly an understatement. I love that so much of this area is still undeveloped.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm sure it was less developed even 5 years ago, but the views from Shady Llama while sitting in a wooden porch Adirondack chair sipping some wine is perfection.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I can only imagine how beautiful it is at sunset. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I do wish they had a couple more tables by those chairs so I can rest my drink, but it's uneven and probably hard to do so, so I happily will sit with my brew in hand and relax.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's also plenty of seating but not overly crowded with chairs and benches which is love, and I loved the hammocks too![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is GREAT for families. Playgrounds, slides, almost all kids areas gated so you don't have to worry about them running into the woods with critters.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fun for all ages, and they're just far enough from the seating to minimize the noise that this kiddos love to make![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I loved the llamas. Some of them would let you pet them, and the personalities on some of them were REAL, but give them some food and they may let you take a picture. It's really cute. Such a cool date night with my husband. If you don't like wine or beer, there's not much for you to drink there. And I get a wine and beer is easy to make. But I do wish it was a full bar that would have been so much fun. The service is good. We didn't have any issues and we were greeted and served promptly. read more

This place was pretty spectacular. I've been wanting to go for a while and it finally happened! It was in the low 70s and perfect weather. The hill country views are beautiful and I'd imagine sunsets here are gorgeous. Outdoor games available. Dogs on leash are allowed. Lots of seating and an interesting idea on how to hold your seats/table. It was nice not having to worry about somebody taking our spot while playing with the animals. You can also get food for them at the bar. They were pretty gentle and didn't mind selfies. Lots of beer, cider and wine options. I had the sweet Sangria (Messina Hof) and Cherry Cobbler by Martin House. Both delightful and fruity. They have 2 food trucks: Gringas Grub Shak and Kelly's Hill Country BBQ. I went with Kelly's and got the Brisket Elote Parfait and it was so, so good. I want to go back just for that! There were so many options to choose from. There's really something for everyone. I'll definitely be back! read more
Super cute and fun. Didn't see any llamas though but the sunset made up for it. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. If I remember correctly the drinks consist of beer, wine, and soda. (Water cooler is available as well) Seating is on a first come first serve situation went on a Friday during spring break and had no problems at all! My only con is on the day we went there were a lot of children everywhere. Running everywhere. Of course that's more so on the parents but just keep in mind that there may be a bunch of kiddos . read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Very fun place![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It is not a brewery but they do have a wide selection of hill country brewed beers for a fair price. We dint catch the bartenders name but he was extremely friendly and made great suggestions based off what we told him we liked. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Outdoor seating only which we enjoyed seeing the storms roll :) very scenic property.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Dint get to see any llamas or donkeys but may be cause of the rain. Food was amazing! Shared the Bahi-mi and the Italian club, very big sandwiches. Will for sure come back when visiting dripping springs! read more

Great SHADED outside venue to sit back and relax or let your kids roam! There is a playground for and an explorer area and cornhole for the adults! Great little food truck that had some dessert options for the kids. Walk up ordering and wasn't a long wait. Great sangria! They had bathrooms that were nice but had a long wait as there is only 2 of them for both men and women. They did have a port a potty option too. Parking is very limited and hard to acquire! We had to wait for a while to get a spot and heard that parking on the road was very risky! read more

After a long dip at Blue Hole Regional Park, the Shady Llama is a place to go for a quick bite, beer, and incredible views. As soon as you walk in, the chairs and hammocks out provide a nice campfire style vibe. There are a ton of trees to keep you cool, and the view of Hill Country is one of a kind. To your right, there is a small fence with adorable llama's you can feed and pet. I didn't get to try the food, but the bbq smelled incredible. Lots of beer and wine options, and great place to bring your friends for a relaxing afternoon. read more

One of the most unique and cool beer/wine gardens I've ever been to. The views are incredible, I can only imagine being here to see the sunset. Tons of games for entertainment, play area for kids, and llamas to pet. Great selection of local beverages. Highly recommend for a chill, relaxing atmosphere. read more

What a perfect place to enjoy a relaxed few hours on a nice weather day in the Hill Country! The Shady Llama, just west of Wimberley on the way toward Dripping Springs on RR12 is a gem of a yard bar offering Texas-based craft brews, soft drinks, & wines with a killer view and a few furry mascots to feed & pet. Our family loves this place. We can each enjoy a tasty beverage we like, have a good lunch from the Gringa's truck we like from Wimberley, and feed some alfalfa to some llamas and burros. There are plenty of socially-distanced places to lounge around the terraced & tree-shaded yard, and everything is outdoors. It's actually perfect for pandemic times. Pro-tip: do not try to come here during any weekend with special events in Wimberley, like Market Days or Rodeo. The parking lot has limited capacity. Lazy Sundays are the best time IMHO. read more
Supper cool place. There were llamas on cite and plenty of areas to sit. A few fire pits corn hole and a place for the kids. Around the back they had two food trucks to grab a bite from. The drinks were great they even had a variety of non alcoholic beers to choose from. My fiancé is recently sober and did not feel left out by the variety of choices they had to offer. read more

Nestled in the heart of hill country with gorgeous view of the hillock, the establishment offers a great melange of nature, outdoors, good drinks and food. This is a great family place and offers a lot of space and activities for kids of all age. There are two food trucks located in the premises and a full bar serving both local brews and craft drinks. A must visit place if you are in Wimberly. read more

Swung by here on a spontaneous brewery tour. Love the beer selection & the food truck is on point! Plenty of shade, good music, and seating make this one of my favorite breweries west of Austin. Bar tenders are friendly and the llamas are nice attraction. Great place to gather, chill, & have a few drinks. read more

The shady llama made our weekend, getaway, even more special with the beautiful views and enchanting sunset. Perfect location for both beer and wine lovers. Great compromise for both the hubs and I since we each don't favor one or the other. read more
This is a beer garden with a food truck (Gringas Grub Shak) on site. Loved the vibes here, from the hammocks and amazing views to the llamas on their property. The food and beer were really enjoyable on a Saturday afternoon. The place was not too busy at all since we arrived close to their opening time, the sitting areas are all fairly already spread out too. They had four llamas in the back and we were able to feed them by talking to the bar staff. read more
