I really liked this place. It definitely has that true local feel, but what stood out to me is how laid back and welcoming it is -- whether you're a local or just passing through, you feel comfortable right away. The music and overall vibe were spot on. Not too loud, not too quiet -- just right to kick back, relax, and actually enjoy a conversation with the people you're with. That's something a lot of places miss, but they nailed it here. The atmosphere has a cool, easygoing energy that makes you want to stay awhile. It's the kind of place you can hang out, unwind, and just enjoy the moment without feeling rushed or crowded. Just popped in for a single-drink pregame on the way to Austin. We stayed on the "dive bar" side of things. Bartender was friendly and made us some killer Cosmos. I was a little surprised by the price though; $13/drink seems about three bucks too high to me, but maybe I'm just too used to paying small town prices for my drinks. At first glance, it looked like a chill little dive bar--until the bartender told us to push a secret door... and boom, we were in a whole other super cool bar. Total vibe shift! Sneaky good food for a 1/2 speak easy + 1/2 sports bar. Maybe it makes me childish but I love walking through the secret door haha. We were returning to Austin from wine country but we wanted some more cocktails before ending our day adventure. So glad I found this hidden gem on Yelp. First off, a true speakeasy because we somewhat struggled finding it at night. Upon arrival, we luckily followed some folks who been in before or else we might have never seen the hidden secret door to get here. I love a good speakeasy and this place in dripping springs of all places really surprised me. So the vibes inside are immaculate, but it's the bartenders are what really impressed us. Those gals are some true mixologist who knocked out each drink we made out of the park. We even ordered a virgin Negroni and it was sooo delicious! Loved how they called it a nah-groni too. Prices are super affordable compared to the austin prices were used to. Old fashions were perfect and loved their ice molds. Really good chill music and good for our group of 8. This was a hidden gem in the town of Dripping Springs . Interesting decor and very delicious drinks. Also the staff was very hospitable!

As a new resident of Dripping springs TX, I was on the hunt for some late evening venue to take a friend in town. Some fellow diners recommended meeting them at this local bar to keep the night going. Pretty easy to find even off the main road- just look for the cars. It's across from a competing night life establishment straddling Mercer. First View inside is fun and local feeling. Bartenders have dress up themes, interesting wall murals and built ins flank the inside room and there is a curious blinking light on a bookcase on one side. This surprise is a speak easy that leads to an even more "local" hangout complete with pool table, tvs and bar. We preferred the saltier ambience of the initial bar. But that wasn't the best part! We sat at the bar and had front row seating to aromatic conjuring of some of the best cocktails I've ever had. I started throwing drink requests that are more involved in making and even those turned out amazing. May I recommend the Liqour 43 carajillo! Not on menu but wonderfully smooth and perfect nightcap if you aren't affected by sleeplessness with caffeine. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them because each one was perfect. Appearance. Smokiness. Herb-y. Creatively rimmed. Great barista although I didn't catch his name. They do have food but we were here for the liquid. In fact I really don't know much more then that and the speak easy so why not stop by and add some notes of your own. You'll be glad you did. read more

We were SO looking forward to a cute new bar in Drip. I am so sad to say that we were way under impressed. I dont know what the vibe is that were trying to go for here for one ... The acetic furniture was also not comfortable or easy to have more than two people in. The food was gross, and not at all what the menu sounded like it was. We had the Brie and Pear plate. The Brie was half melted and the pear was not fresh NOR was it sweet. It was bland and mushy. The bread that accompanied the dish was legit sliced, toasted HEB bread. We pulled our dinner order after one taste of this. The drinks were trying REALLY hard to be the cool kid who also wanted to be from Portland .. but they were from Boring Oregon. I had the featured margarita that the waitress went on and on about and hubby got an old fashioned. Both tasted off. We didn't finish the drinks, and we didn't finish the food either. Plus, if you want to sit on the pub side or the bar side, you have options. The one side is more upscale and the other side is more local bar with pool tables. Grawlix is a very new addition to downtown Drip, and, unless I am mistaken, our first and only craft cocktail bar. It's in the old, converted former Mercer Street Dancehall building, which might give some locals heartburn, but they make a nice addition to the Drip's downtown selections. Ambience is flea-market-meets-honkytonk-collides-with-ComiCon. Cartoonish wall art commensurate with the name of the place (I.e., look up Grawlix on Google). Older furniture, none of which matches anything else anywhere in the hemisphere. It does make for a nice though younger vibe. There are two sides to the drink menu - their craft cocktails, which are creative though uneven in quality on the one side and a selection of Prohibition mixes on the other. They do an extremely credible job on the older selections, and, if you are careful in reading the ingredients, you will be pleased with the craft mix. Their food comes from Rolling in Thyme and Dough on 290 (I'm told there is a family connection). If so I can testify that it is awesome and delicate and altogether terrific. Their staff is their edge. They are active and attentive, even when slammed (which they were last night). It is structured to lean toward the customer. The walk-around waitress even carries a tablet and can cash you out at your seat so you don't have to go to the bar. The only shortcoming I've seen is that they don't have a good way to tie a food order to a table or customer so that, at present, the waitress has to bounce from table to table asking if they ordered such-and-such. Which means that such-and-such will likely be cold before you get it. While I miss the loss of the old dancehall, which moved some miles down 12 south of town, Grawlix is a splendid addition to Mercer Street and the Drip. read more

Well, it's Founders weekend in dripping Springs. While we're super happy to have this bar here. We don't like being bent over. They have a $25 cover charge for getting in to the chic, sophisticated side of the bar. But get this, no food, and the $25 cover only buys you a chair; if that. Do better people. Because this will not when you fans and or repeat customers. Also on the other side of the bar for nine dollars you can get this white bubbly, which taste like piss water. What a fun, hip, cozy, trendy place to have in Dripping Springs! The art work on thee wall is amazing and the drinks and wait staff are even better!! I've been twice already and had a bunch of different drinks. If you like mojitos they make a really good one here. Just be sure to ask for regular rum or they use a Smokey one that is typically in caprihanas and I didn't care for that. Luckily they changed it for me at no charge and the other ones I had were delicious. The furniture is definitely something from an old thrift shop and gives Grawlix a funky vibe. I don't mind it at all, except the table and chair size should be more proportionate to each other. I didn't have any food here yet so I can't rate them on that. We have been to Grawlix a few times now, and their drinks are consistently stand-out. I'm a sucker for a good old-fashioned and theirs are divine. It was an oversight that I did not leave a review until now. We were in after Brewer's Festival on Saturday and I found on Monday that we had accidentally been charged for a tab that wasn't ours. I was in a tizzy about to call my bank to dispute the charges, but I decided to first send them a message on Facebook letting them know what happened. The customer service was stellar and the whole situation was taken care of within 5 minutes with no problem. I have found these sort of accidents just happen from time to time in restaurants and bars and this is by far the best customer service I've ever received in this situation. Had a friend arrive from out of state and took her here on a whim after hiking Hamilton Pool. Unfriendly vibes all the way around almost immediately however the reason was unclear as we were friendly and interacted with a couple across the bar from us in the most positive of ways. The manager made his presence known in the bar area where we sat and spoke to our server and another person helping us....only us. Next thing we new was we were being asked for a credit card before even ate. My friend from out of town beat me to the punch by presenting her cc after I said that we did not want to start a tab. Too late...the server charged her card...but before he did he told her, not to worry as her card would Not be charged. So much to our chagrin, when we got back to my residence, her card had been charged $16.00. I had ultimately paid for everything we ordered and owed money for with my credit card as she was my guest so this charge was a mystery as to what was purchased. I called the manager on her behalf and asked what her credit card was charged for (everything had been paid for by mine plus gratuity). His only answer was "we get these calls all the time and the credit card company makes us do it." How can a credit card company know where a cc holder is at and whether they intend to pay with cash or cc was my initial thought as was such a boldface lie from the manager. The choice came from them and not the credit card company. What the charge is for is still a mystery. He explained further that my friend would have to call her credit card company to make sure the charge was erased herself after a couple of days! Funny, we saw noone else of the other 4 patrons besides us at the establishment being asked for a credit card in advance. There is more that I can say about overall rudeness/amateurish behavior by staff you would never find in the hippest spots from coast to coast ( seems like this place is trying to be something it absolutely isn't and will never be even just by geography alone). The manager was overheard by me for telling a server to sell a whole bottle of wine to me even though it was sold by the glass. He was standing only a couple of feet away from me when this happened. When I called about the sketchy credit card charge I mentioned this to him. He raised his voice and berated me for "eavesdropping." I wasn't eavesdropping he is just rude and lacks tact and is louder than he thinks he is. This place is for kids they think they can pull the wool over the eyes with. And I would dare say discriminatory as well. read more

I have been coming to Grawlix for over a year and never had a bad experience. However, this past weekend, while I was getting popcorn and did not have any drinks, a person came out from behind the bar and was extremely rude and abrasive about carding me. He followed me back to my seat to check my ID and continued to speak to me about the situation while he walked away across the room. Their drinks do change all the time. I ordered the Pineapple Upside Down drink and it did not taste anything like the description but did taste a lot like a different drink on the menu with mezcal. I let the server know I thought there had been a mistake. She dismissed me and said she could not refund the drink but could make another drink for me. No one at the table could drink it because it was so bad. Previously the drinks have been ok to good, this was the first drink I strongly disliked. If you like that east coast pretentious vibe with mean bouncers and inattentive service that is dog unfriendly you're in the right place. It doesn't belong in Drippjng Springs and doesn't fit the vibe. If you're gonna bring you're dog just be sure you're of the right ethnic background. Responding to Business owner: I would not have brought my dog in (he's a very mellow cavalier) if I didn't see three other dogs in the place at the time (and no sign mentioning dogs). My dog was in the lounge for hours before we were told that he wasn't allowed. Moreover at least one other dog remained at the bar while we were asked to leave (owned by an ethnic minority which I'm sure made the discussion more awkward for your bouncers). The bouncers were rude about it as well (and generally rude at the door with regards to entry) and multiple attempts to go back and close my tab whilst nice strangers watched my dog outside failed. I get that it's founders day and that's chaotic but I'd reconsider your security practices at the door. I'll bump it up a star because it was an exceptional day, but I'd advise not hiring this crew in the future. I wasn't the only one taken aback by them but not everyone will write to you about it. read more

Hidden gem on Mercer St Dripping. Who'd had thought there would be such a location with such an amazing vibe. Bar is a thing of beauty and they have a great selection of Belgium ales and bourbon/ryes. Was able to find MWND Act 9 Scene 2 (if you know you know) at a very reasonable price per pour, you don't often find that offered at a bar. Extensive cocktail list, and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Food choices are limited to mainly snacks, but the lamb meatballs and spinach artichoke dip were well executed. Looking forward to bringing friends to share in this exciting new find. read more
