We usually prefer a heavy heat, but found that levels 8 and 9 were still relatively mild. If you're a true spice lover, you might want to venture into the double digits! This has always been our go-to Thai spot, so it's honestly really disappointing to say this was probably our last visit. The service has always been great--servers are attentive, friendly, and quick to clear plates, which we've always appreciated. It's part of why we kept coming back. We usually order the fried pompano, and it's always been a favorite. But the last couple of times, the fish has been noticeably smaller--like almost half the size it used to be. That was already a letdown. What really did it for us, though, was finding a plastic to-go cup lid inside one of our drink glasses. It was buried in there, and completely threw us off. We went with our friends and ordered few different meals to be able to review properly, Appetizers: Fried calamari - the aioli that comes with it is amazing. The calamari was a bit on the chewer side. Shrimp Spring Rolls - this was fresh and flavorful Garlic edamame - just the right amount of garlic in the right amount of seasoning. Truly the best. Main dishes: Yellow seafood curry- it was creamy, flavorful and just the right amount of mix of seafoods. Red vegetable curry - this was on the spiced side maybe i should have mentioned to have low spicy one but still really creamy and flavorful and loaded with veggies, Lamb curry - this was the star of the show, creamy, coconut flavor the only thing that i would say is the lamb was a tinny bit on the chewer side but other than that AMAZING. Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp. Cooked to perfection noodles, it did lack a bit on the protein that was in there but other than that flavor was on point. Very consistent and has become a staple in my rotation. The food is full of complex flavors and goes well with rice. Be sure to ask for the fish sauce with cut chili. Your spice tolerance may vary. When asked if the scale of 1 - 10 was "Thai spicy" or "white person spicy," I was told it was Thai spicy and tempered my request accordingly and went with a mere 2. Next time, I would easily ramp that up to 5 or 6, but fortunately, the food is flavorful, fresh, and well-seasoned all the same. Best of all, they don't just understand requests for vegan dishes; they have a whole separate vegan menu! You've gotta ask for it is all. There, you'll find the predictable tofu and veggie options as well as more exciting mock duck and chicken (seitan/wheat-based.) My favorite was the meatless duck, which is super tender and savory. I don't usually go for pad Thai, but theirs is not bad! Chewy noodles, moderately sweet sauce, and your protein of choice. This place was a lovely little gem that we stumbled upon. We ordered the lemonade to start and my friend loved it. Then we got egg rolls that came out piping hot! After the appetizer we moved on to dinner. My friend and I both got chicken pad Thai and it was incredible! When the Check came, I paid and looked at her and said "happy birthday!" As someone who loves Thai food, I knew I had to give Sip Saam Thai a try. So I went with my family for my last dinner in Austin, and wow - no regrets whatsoever. Sip Saam started us off with drinks and a pot of Tom Yum soup with seafood. Both were incredible in taste and portion size - just that there was too much ice in the Thai Tea - but we were able to share the soup between the 5 of us and still had some left! Then came the yellow curry, pad thai, and spare ribs. The yellow curry came with a plate of rice, but we felt it wasn't enough given the large bowl of curry, so we actually ended up ordering more rice separately. Same for the Thai pork spare ribs - both dishes just had such rich flavor that needed a little bit more rice to balance it out. Otherwise, we have no complaints - how can we when the meat is so succulent that it comes right off the bone? I was certainly gagged. o_o The pad thai was also very delicious: a little sweet and sour, but not heavy on either. I particularly liked how they left the peanuts and lime on the side, so individual customers can adjust the flavor to their liking! Lastly, I always love getting mango sticky rice for dessert at Thai places, but Sip Saam has made my favorite iteration of this dish *ever*. The mangos were so delicious and ripe, not sour at all - and the sweetness was tuned to be just perfect. Simply lovely, that one; I should have ordered another plate to take home! In short, Sip Saam Thai is a master at everything they offer. The kindness and accommodation of the friendly staff is just the cherry on top. I ordered three dishes from Sip Saam Thai, and was pretty pumped to try each. I ordered the combination pad Thai, combination drunken noodles, and prik king w/ pork. The prik king was definitely the most edible. The pad Thai tasted, weirdly, like spaghetti, which, was awful. The drunken noodles was dry and bland. I normally don't write reviews unless they're positive, but, this food was really disappointing and I'd like to save folks from the same experience. It's been several months since I've been here, but we could not get into a local Indian place so these guys popped up on yelp and I remembered them and they have respectable reviews so we pivoted and went to have some Thai on a Sunday Funday. It was not that busy, which is good for me and I opted to get the beef stirfry with basil, which is a well known Thai dish that I usually get. The Japanese pumpkin curry sounded appealing, but I may get that next time. My friend had the chicken pad Thai. We also got the spring rolls with tofu and the moo ping. My beef dish looked pretty good, this place gives you larger pieces of beef as opposed to ground up - which I actually prefer - but regardless it was still pretty solid. The spice level at six was good enough for me. Overall, there are other places that have a better dish and I would like to have more basil. I would say this was 7/10. The tofu spring rolls were huge and contained a lot of veggies inside. I love the size as it was almost a mini meal. If you like spring rolls, you're gonna be very happy with these, they were fresh and tasted great. It was the peanut sauce that I was not too crazy about. It was on the thicker side and didn't have a strong peanut flavor. I tend to like my peanut sauce to be less thicker consistency as a dip - then I mix in some spicy satay. The Moo Ping was OK. I have had better at other places, especially at a Thai Trailer near Manchaca and radio coffee if you know what I'm talking about - there's is superb and sets the benchmark. There was bigger pieces of meat, but they were dry and somewhat underseasoned and the dipping sauce was OK yet lacked the burst of flavor. I do not think I will get these again. My friend liked the chicken pad Thai and it looked pretty good. For all these dishes it cost $58 which is about 12-15% higher than I would've liked to pay, but I was not too disappointed, and I would still go back here. BTW not sure if they still sell their chili oil satay - but if you are a fan of that, I do highly recommend. I have a small jar in my fridge that I forgot about and the other night I used it and it was excellent flavor but I had purchased this several months ago. My partner got the Panang curry, it had more flavoring but still watered down. The rice portion was small and any extra would be a charge. What happened to the Thai restaurant we loved? I've regularly frequented this place since 2016 or so. And have always enjoyed the duck curry, pad see ew, Tom yum noodle soup, Thai tea.... All yummy items. BUT TODAY.... Did ownership changed? New cook? Everything we got today was below par. The duck curry was the most bland duck curry I've had from anywhere (the duck was cooked fine though and edible). My toddler had pork skewers which was ok (3.5/5). My wife had the pad see ew which had absolutely no flavor. And I thought the noodle was undercooked. The papaya salad was pretty good but a small part of our overall meal. Hello, To make my long story short-on 09/16/2025 my friend had severe food poisoning. He ate pineapple curry with tofu and some of glass noodles with chicken. This place was recommended to us. We are not surprised -- another friend used to work in 5 star restaurant, and she was telling us horror stories about food preparation and that you would not eat in there had you known how the food was prepared. In brief, they kept past and rice for months in freezer, and then microwave them and serve you on a beautiful plate. I wish food regulations were much stricter, and inspector thoroughly inspected the food. Bacteria grows in the food kept in freezer for months, y"all!!! Let's start with the good and that's the special Lamb Shank Curry! If you enjoy tender juicy lamb, this is the dish for you. The service was nice and the place is clean with a nice open feel. Unfortunately, the basil fried rice had a sweet flavor which was strange for me and the drunken noodles were just okay. Comes with the aoli sauce that personally I skipped to dip in spicy fish sauce. Tom Yum Soup is my favorite so far in Austin because they give you so much seafood, even if we got the large size there were muscle, shrimp and some more of the big and tender calamari. Spicy Fish Fillet was also delicious even though I was looking for authentic Plad Pla Cha (found at Little Thailand). The fried batter soaked up all the good sauce and it was served piping hot. With amount of fish, it thinks it needs one extra bowl of rice. Drunken Noodles was not the typical drunken noodles that we were expecting. This was more like pad tai with flat noodles however it was delicious nonetheless. My true rating is more like a 3.5 but the service was exceptional, the restaurant was clean and pristine, food came out fairly fast, and flavors were good. At the tail end of our trip to Austin, the hubby and I were seeking something fresh that wasn't brisket, biscuits, or slathered in mayo or bbq sauce. We dined at Sip Saam for a late lunch and were greeted by such a nice group of employees who were all smiles. We started with the cream cheese wontons which were stuffed with cream cheese, imitation crab, garlic and served with a sweet chili sauce. The hubby ordered the pad Thai with chicken, no garnish or peanuts and loved it. It was very saucy, had the hint of sweetness he loves, and was tasty. I had the ribeye salad which had nice charred hunks of steak, dressed in a bright lime dressing tossed with mint, cilantro, romaine, red onion, tomatoes, and cucumber. My only critique is that the ribeye could've been sliced in smaller pieces and trimmed a little more. No green beans, bamboo shoots, basil, or other traditional components that typically round out this classic Thai dish. Without the accompanying white rice, it would've bordered on a snack rather than a meal. I chose the garlic and pepper stir-fry, expecting a balanced wok-tossed medley of seasonal vegetables and aromatics. Instead, I received a sparse plate of intensely pungent white onions--barely caramelized--laid over a bed of lettuce and topped with just five shrimp. The dish lacked texture, color, and the kind of layered flavor profile one expects from even a basic stir-fry. Both lunch specials--priced at $15 and $16--came with a single potsticker (unfortunately served lukewarm) and a small salad topped with a peanut dressing. The salad was fine, and the dressing added a mildly interesting twist, but it wasn't enough to elevate the experience. Overall, the meal felt minimalist not in a refined, intentional way--but in a cost-cutting, corner-cutting one. There's a clear distinction between focused, clean cooking and simply under-delivering.
