Everything we ordered - cashew chicken and tofu glass noodles (pad see woon) was tasty. The buffet bar included a variety of appetizers like egg rolls, salad and soup. It was a great addition to the lunch meal. The price for the buffet seems to be factored into the individual menu items. 1) They have American Thai and American Chinese standards. * * * 2) They ALSO have firey spicy plain meats in a non-curry sauce. This is a Thai staple we rarely see in the U.S. Hooray for them. * * * 3) The cook thinks it is a great idea to cut everything up into pieces the size of two or three bites. Nothing wrong with this. I intentionally cook that way home because it saves a lot of work. But they don't give you knives at Thai Cuisine. Knives can be had for the asking ... But I spent a lot of time fighting with pieces that were too big. I finally got smart enough to ask for a knife. I guess Thai people have their own way of dealing with pieces that are too big. I will have to ask the Thai Miss Manners what that system is. * * * 4) Heat levels are hotter than most American Thai restaurants but not as hot as the most sadistic Thai places I know. I have been to a few places in the U.S. where it took me two hours to fight my way through my dish. This usually meant consuming about two fifty pound sacks of rice as well to put out the flames. I loved it. But even at the non-molten-lava level more typical of Thai Cuisine on Parmer - the heat in the dishes command serious respect. Be prepared to say "Yes Maam"and "No Maam" to your dinner. * * * 5) They get the Official Yelp White Rice Cuteness Award. They serve their white rice in a large cake shaped like a Valentine Day's Heart. When your head is in flames and steam is coming out of your eyes, You will come to love your white rice. The people who took us here were neighborhood locals. They have never had a problem with the place. My belief is that in the 2020's they solved whatever staffing issues they had had in the kitchen. Hunger strikes during a shopping trip and we are around research boulevard, Anuya gets a craving for Thai food, so the first thought was Thai Ladda on Parmer. Then I realized that we haven't tried a new Thai place in a while. Luckily Thai cuisines was in the same direction and closer and there was a mention of buffet on the side which was intriguing so off we went. They have nice shaded outside seating although the metal table and chairs could be better, inside is nice too. We got the cashew chicken and Pad kee mow with fried Tofu. Lunch meals come with the salad , soup and dessert buffet station which was awesome. The soups were very good, the salad choices were decent and the pearl pudding was delicious. Our main course dishes were good too. One warning though, spice level 2/5 can be spicy still, its safe to go with 1 if you are not sure. During weekday lunch, you can easily make a meal from the all you can eat soup and salad bar at Thai cuisine. It costs $12.95 as of April 2025. On my Wednesday visit, they didn't have my favorite items on the bar, but it was still very good and a good lunch. For soup they had Tom Yum and Tom Jerd, which I hadn't tried before, but it was very tasty. They had spring rolls, both soft and fried, both of which had tofu inside. There was a decent salad with nice fresh lettuce, sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, dried cranberries, carrots, etc., along with peanut sauce, honey mustard sauce, and an unmarked sauce that was sweet but complex. The dessert is a sweet tapioca pudding. It seemed to me that they had dialed down the heat on the Tom Yum soup and perhaps on the Tom Jerd. That's OK by me, but some people might prefer the spicy versions. Apparently, they rotate the soup/salad bar items on weekdays. I talked to a server, who told me that a couple of my favorites, Crab Rangoon and Tom Gha soup, are on the buffet bar on Tuesdays, so I'll make a point of coming back some Tuesday. The entrées that I have ordered here in the past were good, I thought, although to my taste, I've had better Thai here in Austin, and certainly in Thailand. Tried this place out for lunch. They have a bar available that has all you want of two soups, a type of fried roll, spring roll, salad, toppings and some rice pudding looking thing for dessert. I knew I've been here in the past but wasn't sure so we came for lunch one afternoon about 12:30ish. It was moderately busy and patrons kept coming. We placed our order then went up to the side bar. I started with the daily soup that was very flavorful, and also tried a spring roll, took 1 bite and couldn't eat the rest, the eggroll appeared very thin with very little filling that was obvious. The sauces were not worth mentioning but did enjoy the soup. When the entrees arrived I the pad Thai portion was generous however the shrimp and soft tofu did not have any flavor, the flavor wasn't bad but could have used more flavor. The seafood combo my husband had were very skimpy, the squid was very chewy, it's the frozen squid that you see at the Asian stores. I was embarrassed for him since it was not much food at all for a man. Luckily he had some things from the side bar to help satisfy his hunger. While he was finishing up he pulled out something hairy or just eerie looking, I immediately grossed out or lost my lunch! I could not make it out so when we flagged the staff, we asked her what she thought it was, she acted just as perplexed as we as I was obviously still, super grossed. She took it to the kitchen and asked. She came back and said it was from the mussel shell, said it was seaweed like what looked to me like a leggy cricket or some sort of insect after that, somehow we didn't feel very confident with the cleanliness of the food. I immediately responded with "so it just wasn't cleaned well"? As she walked away with no apology. End to this experience. My friends have raved about this place, especially for the unlimited soup and salad buffet. The unlimited soup and salad is only available during lunch, but they do offer lunch during the weekends which is nice. I was slightly hesitant to see how good this food was because most people talked about the value of this place. I ordered the Pad Thai with spice level 1 and was pleasantly surprised how good it tasted. I really liked the flavor and the spice level 1 was pretty spicy for me. If you are not a huge fan of spice, I would recommend no spice because spice level 1 was more spicy than I had expected. I thought the portion size was pretty good and the staff were super friendly. There was plenty of space on a Sunday afternoon and I'd come back to try their other dishes! I had the Tom Kha Gai soup from the soup and salad bar and it was really delicious. The pad soo wen had Raw eggs. Manager would not take it off the bill. The server said she would have to pay it if I didn't. So I was charged for a soup and one spring roll $14. The server was very nice. The soup and salad comes with the meal. I couldn't eat the meal at all. The food, like the name of the restaurant, it completely generic. Appropriate but forgettable. Having the salad bar out for lunch make it seem like a better deal, but the fresh rolls only have lettuce and rice noodles in them, with syrupy-sweet peanut sauce for dipping. The tom yum soup was easily my favorite part of the meal though; spicy and flavorful, with a good amount of mushrooms and tofu. For my entree, I got pad kee mao with tofu, no eggs, which was fine. Reasonably seasoned, though it could have just as easily been Chinese-American food. It's not bad, but I can't see going back, given so many other options for Thai good. read more

The buffet also included salad, Tom jerd soup, and coconut tapioca dessert. I had the Pra Ram for my main dish and it was very tasty with a rich peanut sauce. The portion was good and you can fill up with buffet items too. For $14, I thought it was a really good lunch special. I actually stumbled upon this spot by accident when trying to find a different Thai restaurant on Parmer. I was meeting with a friend who was about to leave town, and Thai Cuisine provided good food, good ambiance, and excellent service for a last shared meal. My friend and I went closer to closing, so the restaurant was pretty quiet and empty. Our waitress was extremely attentive, checking up on us regularly when we were looking at the menu and to refill our waters. And even though our conversation went a little long (past closing), she was still very kind and patient when giving us our check! Like most Thai restaurants I've been to, Thai Cuisine also doesn't mess around with spice. I ordered the Spicy Kra Pow with beef with the lowest level of spice, and I still needed to down two glasses of water by the time I finished it. They even shaped the rice into a heart, which was a nice touch (in my photo, I started eating the rice before remembering to take a picture)! If I were to eat here again, however, I would probably order the curry instead. I tried the yellow curry that my friend ordered, and I loved it! I felt that my rice was a little dry and the stir-fried beef was pretty tough. The sauce was also slightly watery, but it tasted amazing over the rice. I usually get spice level 1 or 2, and that's enough for me. Anything higher and I think I might sweat lol. (For reference, I've successfully done a hot ones challenge, and started tearing up on sauce 7 out of 10.) It's such a little thing, but I love that they shape the rice into a heart when you order curry. And I like that they don't skimp on rice when they serve the curry. I judge a Thai place based off their pad Thai and this place has the best Pad Thai in Austin. It's a great balance of sweet, salty and spicy (if you request it). Some Pad Thai's that I've had can be aggressive with the tamarind but Thai Cuisine does great. Other really great dishes are the basil fried rice, pad ped gang deng (it's like a stir fry dish with a red curry sauce) and the som tum salad! A really great tip about this place is if you go during lunch they have an appetizer buffet. Soups, featured hot appetizer, salad bar and veggie spring rolls. You pay for an entree and you can enjoy the appetizer buffet for free. You can fill up on the appetizers and take your entree for dinner. read more
