Finally a Viet restaurant you can be rightly pressured to try something other than pho and the other good basic dishes. The appetizer platter is the easiest way to try all the wrapped delicacies - Banh nam, Banh beo, and banh bot loc aka Vietnamese tamales. Make sure you bathe them all in the garlicky fish sauce, otherwise are you really cultured? My other favorite dish was bun Bo hue- it ties with one other restaurant for the best Viet spicy beef noodle soup, in my opinion. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food!

4.8/5 I specifically was impressed with their rice dish here. The pork chop was so aromatic and had that perfect grilled smoky flavor. The fish sauce that paired with it was also perfect, not bland like some other viet spots. I enjoyed the Bun Bo Hue as well although it didn't taste traditional. You can ask for chili oil sate on the side if you want it spicier. Another highlight were their tapioca dumplings. The pho cowboy had that nice smoky flavor too. The pho taco wasn't my favorite. Nice staff. There is often a line during peak hours because of limited seating inside. The place is very cutely decorated. Felt like I was eating in an old Ha Noi alleyway.

Really good pho and rice dishes. Some beef in the combination pho is not chewable. But the soup base is rich and delicious. Service was nice too. Ambiance is good for family friends etc. Only thing would say is the wait is too long and we waited for more than an hour and half. Also by the time we seated all appetizers are sold out so I was not able to try any appetizers. Maybe come back again in the future if the line is not too crazy.

This lowkey spot offers authentic Vietnamese cuisine while making it feel like you're in someone's house. I appreciated the waitress' recommendations to try the taco pho, a fusion dish that combines the rich umami flavor of pho with barbacoa, taco strips, and radish. I enjoyed trying banh beo which was something that's not really available at other pho restaurants that I've visited. With their unique menu and lowkey layout, I will definitely be returning in the future. Quick tip though, they are kind of device-free, so you cannot order online, the waitlist is a paper outside the door, and you have to wait outside to until they call you, literally. The place only has five serving tables, but once you're seated, trust me it would have been worth the wait

I came on a Friday evening for dinner. There is a paper wait list outside the restaurant where you can put your name down. There's also some chairs for you to sit down while you wait. There are only five tables inside so it was a bit of a wait, especially in the heat. After one hour, I eventually got seated. I decided to order the 3 Hue Cakes combination and the pho old district dish. The flavors were really good and meshed well together. I especially like the rice cakes dipped in the sauce. The dumplings were wrapped inside a banana leaf and tasted amazing. I would definitely come here again but just be prepared to wait.

Okay this was a hit! The appetizers were authentic and it made me want to order another round. The pork and rice dish was so unique. It had a Smokey and sweet flavor profile that was so delicious. The pho had plenty of meat. The food didn't take too long to come out which I appreciate. The inside is so cute too, you'd think you're in a restaurant in Vietnam. The owners came out to make sure everyone was doing good. It was a great experience and I'd love to return.

My husband read about CUI in the Austin Chronicle and we had been meaning to go in. Well, the opportunity presented itself this evening! We stopped in at 7pm on a Wednesday and were seated right away. The dining room is tiny - only 8 tables - so I think we got lucky. I understand there's typically quite a line, especially for lunch and on the weekends. We ordered the rice cakes as an appetizer. I had no idea what to expect. They're very pretty little bowls of a chewy/gelatinous "cake" topped with dried shrimp and fish sauce, which you eat with a spoon. I recommend this dish, even though my description may not sound very appealing... I may not have the right vocabulary to do it justice. For our mains, I ordered the Pho Classic and my husband got the Pho Cowboy, which was smoked brisket vs. the traditional beef preparation. This pho broth is delicious and the meat was well prepared - tender and very easy to bite through. The smokiness on the brisket was a lovely accompaniment to the pho in my husband's dish. I hate it when soup noodles get overcooked and flabby. These were perfect. A very yummy meal...and we were done eating by around 7:40, so very quick service. The servers were very nice, checked on us regularly, and made sure we knew how to eat the items we ordered. I'll definitely be back!

Hands down one of the best restaurant openings in Austin. I'm usually very picky about fusion food, but this family run restaurant does Viet/Texas fusion very well. There were no single overpowering flavors and everything blended in harmony. Their space is very small and intimate with a few tables, so the wait may be a while, but definitely worth it.

We enjoyed everything from the drinks through the appetizers and main dishes. Excellent service. Warm atmosphere. Delicious food. We will be back.

SOOOOO good. Like wow. Best vietnamese food I've had in Austin. The broth is so flavorful and rich and the pork plate was delishhhhh

The young lady at the register left quickly when we approached, and when I asked if we could dine in, she told us there was no room. That felt unusual, but we decided to order takeout. While placing the order, she mentioned there were plumbing issues and something was overflowing, which raised another concern about the cleanliness of the environment. She also seemed anxious and unprofessional during the interaction. We were told the food would take about 15 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 30-45 minutes. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations, especially for the price. The oxtails, rice, greens, and macaroni and cheese were around $36. The okra looked like it had been refried, and the chicken wings tasted as though they were cooked in old grease. The greens had an unusual flavor, and the macaroni and cheese did not taste like traditional mac and cheese. The oxtails were messy but not tender. Based on the lack of professionalism, the long wait, and the overall quality of the food, I do not plan to return.

They were perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of vinegar and cooked to that ideal tender texture without being mushy. The fried chicken and catfish were outstanding. Both were well seasoned, incredibly crispy, and tasted like they were fried in fresh grease. Every bite was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The baked macaroni and cheese was good, but it leaned a little more toward a Velveeta-style cheese sauce than my personal preference. Still a solid 9/10. I also ordered the Peach Passion Fruit Hennessy margarita, and it was superb. Smooth, flavorful, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the prices were very reasonable, and the portions were generous. If you're looking for authentic soul food in Austin, The Rolling Rooster is absolutely worth the stop. I'll definitely be back.

The mac-n-cheese, and greens were not well cooked. Soul food to me is oven baked mac-n-cheese and not stove top mac-n-cheese. The greens were missing a lot of flavor. You can really taste the love that went into all this food. This is a food truck right across from HEB mueller in that swimming pool parking lot. She's only open on the weekends and her food can be ordered on DoorDash but she has more menu items in person than on DoorDash. I online ordered and picked up 3 different orders. 2 of them were not ready and she had me wait in my car and she brought them out to me so I didn't melt in the heat. Now the important stuff the menu... Ok who knew you could fry ribs?!?! They were on point. 4 to an order. Ribs were still moist, the batter had a crunch, and the meat fell off the bone. The dirty rice was the best dirty rice I've ever eaten. It was loaded up with seafood The smothered pork chops were 2 to an order and 2 sides served on a bed of white rice. Also very moist and great flavor, the Mac n cheese was not runny which I personally hate when it's just a runny mess, the fried cabbage also had a great flavor and it was still crunchy. The jerk chicken had great flavor but it was ordered as mild (not by me) and it definitely needed the heat/spice,the jumbalaya side was also tasty We also got the hot Cheetos boudin balls (I forgot to take a picture) they were huge and not spicy at first bite the heat sneaks up on you. The strawberry crunch cake was a big slice and reminded me of strawberry cake doughnut but that banana pudding was also probably the best banana pudding I've ever eaten. I felt all the portions were huge and prices were fair. This definitely not a food truck to sleep on. I've been told she makes great oxtails but they sell out fast.
