Braised Oxtails (2 Sides)
Ciera D.

The food and customer service were amazing! The dishes were fresh, hot, and made with care! The portion sizes are big; you'll be satisfied for sure! Worth every cent!!

Braised Oxtails with 1 Side, Collard Greens

Lord Have Mercy. I'm sitting in my hotel room in a food coma. This is a must try! Thick oxtails that are on point. And those Collard greens were done RIGHT. The customer service was great too. Very friendly and we even talked about vacation spots.

Brown stew chicken with 2 sides collard greens made with smoked turkey and red beans and rice

Whole Lotta Soul is located at the Ghostline Kitchens in South Austin. When I arrived it was raining and there wasn't any close parking. As I was driving around trying to figure out how to get my food I received a phone call from I'm assuming the chef and he said my food is ready (right at the time promised) and park close to the benches he will bring it out. He brought the food out and it was piping hot. I ordered oxtails with red beans and rice, honey butter cornbread and brown stew chicken with collard greens made with smoked turkey and another side of red beans and rice. If you notice I don't have a picture of the oxtails or the cornbread because my son was silently eating it all and it was literally gone by the time I was able to stop and ask him to take a picture. He said it was so good he couldn't help himself. Well I did get a bite of the cornbread and it tasted like a cake a little bit. The brown stew chicken was tender and flavorful. Everything was delicious. The red beans and rice was good but it had a consistency of rice when you cook it with too much water. I'm definitely going back and trying everything on the menu. The food is a little bit on the pricy side but you do get good portions. I paid just under $60 for these two meals. You must check this place out. Just know space is limited with the benches if you want to sit there and eat.

You can really taste the love that went into all this food. This is a food truck right across from HEB mueller in that swimming pool parking lot. She's only open on the weekends and her food can be ordered on DoorDash but she has more menu items in person than on DoorDash. I online ordered and picked up 3 different orders. 2 of them were not ready and she had me wait in my car and she brought them out to me so I didn't melt in the heat. Now the important stuff the menu... Ok who knew you could fry ribs?!?! They were on point. 4 to an order. Ribs were still moist, the batter had a crunch, and the meat fell off the bone. The dirty rice was the best dirty rice I've ever eaten. It was loaded up with seafood The smothered pork chops were 2 to an order and 2 sides served on a bed of white rice. Also very moist and great flavor, the Mac n cheese was not runny which I personally hate when it's just a runny mess, the fried cabbage also had a great flavor and it was still crunchy. The jerk chicken had great flavor but it was ordered as mild (not by me) and it definitely needed the heat/spice,the jumbalaya side was also tasty We also got the hot Cheetos boudin balls (I forgot to take a picture) they were huge and not spicy at first bite the heat sneaks up on you. The strawberry crunch cake was a big slice and reminded me of strawberry cake doughnut but that banana pudding was also probably the best banana pudding I've ever eaten. I felt all the portions were huge and prices were fair. This definitely not a food truck to sleep on. I've been told she makes great oxtails but they sell out fast.

I wouldn't eat here again…read more I had high expectations with the good Yelp reviews. We ordered the ribs and the chicken quarter (which was more like a Cornish hen quarter because it was so small) The burnt end black eyed peas were we very spicy, which I like, but it was not noted and they were salty. We threw them away. I was not impressed and $7 for the chicken (see pic) is a crime when it's that tiny.

I ordered the pork ribs with black eyed peas and burnt ends, and everything was packed with flavor. The ribs were tender and well seasoned, about three in my order, and came with a tangy sauce , grilled toast plus pickled tomatoes and onions that were downright addictive. The Black Eyed Peas were bold and spicy, with chunks of smoky burnt ends mixed in. Definitely not shy on seasoning. They serve everything on compostable plates which I really appreciate. The staff was friendly and knew their stuff. They mentioned the menu rotates often, so what's on today might not be there next time. Small batch, small menu, but worth it. The truck was set up at the brewery, so there's plenty of seating--inside, shaded, or in the sun--and drinks come from the brewery itself. Only reason I took off a star was the limited options, but overall, the food was fantastic. I'd absolutely come back to try more from their menu.

We both subbed beans for mac and cheese. My friend appeared the most jolly I'd ever seen him and thoroughly enjoyed the chicken. I really liked the mac and cheese, and I liked the chicken as well. The coleslaw was decent, and I often don't like coleslaw. The skin was tough and too much for me, but the food itself was great. The two piece was substantial for me, and the four piece seemed to be a little too much even for a big boy. The restroom floors were suspiciously very wet. I feel like they could provide some moist towelettes because the chicken was very greasy, and we had to just pour water on the napkins. Downtown street parking was a struggle, but I found 2/3 of a spot close by that I decided could count as a spot.

There was a small hiccup with the sides, but the staff was quick to fix it. The sides were good, and the chicken was juicy, flavorful, and didn't need any extra seasoning at all. I just wish the chicken pieces had been a little bigger! Overall, I had a good dining experience. The restaurant was clean and cozy, the service was great, and the chicken was delicious!

Because let me tell you right now, Mama'z earned it. It did everything that a 5 start review deserves. First, friendly service, even on a cold rainy day, even if it's a food truck. However, on this particular day, I went by the food truck at 3 pm and all their plates were sold out. They only had two pans of seafood broil at $75, which I am told would feed 4 people. The stated hours are to 7 pm. I did not plan to buy food for 4 people...just one. The food truck manager said I should have called first to check to see if they had any plates left. Well, I could have called and so that is totally my bad. However, it is a reasonable expectation that you will not run out plates of food 4 hours before closing. I am going to be less likely to patronize this business in the future.

Not quite sure why the food was subpar, but there were 10 of us who all agreed we wouldn't return for food. There is a swanky little cozy speakeasy in the basement that may be good?
