Loves: the warm welcome, fast service, fun music at a volume where you can still talk with your party, a number of TVs with the game on, plenty of seating, and a small yard area with games like big connect four. And Barq's on tap. It's better than the North location (which was so SALTY I didn't think I'd try a Hattie B's again). The portions are pretty generous. It's about $15-20 per person for a meal and a drink. We ordered the three big chicken tenders, fries, a blue cheese chicken sandwich, waffles, 2 sodas and a beer. It was all fine; it's just not my absolute favorite.

Hattie B's is an incredible value. The service is top-notch. They bring the food out very quickly consider considering it is fried. The chicken portions are very generous, and the chicken is cooked so well- I do not know how they get the chicken so juicy! Ambience is fast casual. You order out a counter and get a number. Our favorite is the crispy chicken sandwich with the special sauce and fries. Only negative I have to add is some of their sides aren't the best- the coleslaw wad over-sauced and sweet, and the mac n cheese tasted very bland. Fries are A++ though!

I've tried a few different hot chicken spots -- including a well-known one here in Austin that I won't name -- and Hattie B's beats them all. I ordered the Medium Hot Chicken sandwich with a side of fries. The chicken was juicy, the sauce they use was perfect, and even the coleslaw was good... and I'm not even a coleslaw person. 10/10 on the sandwich. The fries were perfectly crispy but just a tad too salty for me -- 6/10. The vibe was dope. There's bar seating, a full dining area, and plenty of room on the patio. We sat outside and enjoyed the nice breeze, which made the experience even better. If you're ever in the South Lamar area, definitely check them out.

Fried Sandwich, Fried 3 Tenders Plate, Fried Pickles, Pimento Mac & Cheese, Comeback sauce, Watermelon Marg

Let's cut to the chase - the hype is real and the fried chicken won't disappoint you whether you get it in a sandwich or not. Not the best I've ever had but juicy and worthy of a visit. As far as the sides go, I'd definitely recommend getting the fried pickles and dipping them in the comeback and/or ranch sauce. While the mac n cheese is really popular, I wasn't too fond of it but maybe I'm just not a pimento guy. The watermelon marg was a little sweet but I'd still get it again. Even though the line was long, the staff was friendly and I'll definitely come by and try some other dishes (desserts looked great).

I tried Hattie B's for the first time and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I ordered the chicken sandwich in mild because I have a low tolerance for spice, and it was perfect still had a nice kick, but totally manageable. The chicken itself was juicy, crispy, and flavorful, and honestly every bite was amazing. The sandwich comes with a side of your choice, and I went with the pimento mac and cheese. It was super cheesy, creamy, and delicious -- definitely a standout. I also tried the coleslaw, which was fresh, crunchy, and the perfect balance to the heat of the chicken. Overall, a great meal from start to finish. Highly recommend Hattie B's if you want quality hot chicken with sides that hit just as hard!

Fried Southern Salad

My girlfriend and I went here for a Yelp event and were pleasantly surprised by the food. She got the chicken sandwich. It was a little salty, but really good if you put the mac and cheese in it. I loved the mac and cheese. I had the southern chicken salad with ranch and while it was good, it was nothing special. The service was very friendly and welcoming, which we noticed right away and there is plenty of seating inside and a small outdoor area as well. Surprisingly, the drinks were very good. The soda was carbonated and crisp and the powerade tasted fresh, which is a big plus. I would definitely come back again.

Introduced my hubby to Hattie B's chicken. He loves fried foods and especially wings. I do not prefer fried foods, but sometimes you have to take one for the team. Our server, Genie, recommended the chicken tenders as the post popular food item. My hubby ordered the 5 wings and I ordered two chicken tenders with grits (love me some grits). All were deep fried and super crispy. The chicken tasted like it was made at home...well seasoned and crispy as if it was emersed in oil and immediately served. Our order was filled almost before we found a place to sit. The chicken came out super hot. In fact, you could see steam hoovering over the chicken. Our meals were tasty. Hattie B's is a cross between a fast food and sit down restaurant. Their decor is the standout with bold red colors, enlarged writing on the side of the walls and a retractable door that leads to outside seating.

Hattie B's Hot Chicken is a cool way to get a Nashville favorite right here in Austin. Fast service, bold colors, neon vibes, and the comeback sauce is elite. It's not quite as hot as I remember (maybe I've gotten tougher ... or just older), but it still brings solid heat. A great alternative to the "other" chicken sandwich spot when you want flavor with a little personality.

Okay after hearing all about Hattie B's, I had to try it. The food came out fast and parking and the wait on a weekend were not bad at all. We ordered Chicken and Waffles as well as a Fried Chicken Sandwich. The Mac and cheese was yummy (I always love a good Mac and cheese). Overall everything was pretty good.

Medium spice was pretty good but I could have done mild for a little less spice. Chicken sandwich was delicious! Lt the best one I've ever had but definitely hits the spot. The ranch is not the best. Service was amazing! Really nice people! Also got a watermelon margarita and it was a big size but was a little too sweet.

Tenders with bacon cheddar grits

The guy behind the counter didn't have a lot to say but nodded when taking our order then remembered who ordered which items when bringing them to the table. The chicken tenders were large and two of them was plenty for me. I like that you can choose the spice level and the medium was just enough. The chicken could have been a bit crispier. The grits were tasty but didn't have the texture of other grits I've had - almost seemed like scalloped potatoes. Hubby had the Cole slaw and enjoyed it. The best thing about the whole meal though was the waffle. I'd read comments about them so felt compelled to give them a try- crispy, sweet and delicious! This place is out of my usual travels but I'd come again and try a spicy chicken sandwich!

5 Jumbo Wings

Oh shit I forgot to leave a review!! First off; I'd like to apologize for Tumble for cheating but this place here!!!! Top Tier!!! That leg quarter changed my life lol!! The greens taste home made and the potato salad was decent (good for cooling your mouth down if needed. I just ordered the jumbo wings and THAT they indeed are!! JUMBO!! Update on the sides: the greens are starting to be a hit or miss, one day they taste fresh and some days they taste like "yesterday or 2 days ago" The grits!!! Chefs kiss!! I'm a sugar in my grits girl unless it's for shrimp and grits and I could eat these alone! The beans... bruh! TRASH!! Tastes like straight black pepper, as if someone loosened the cap and wayyy too much poured out. The black eyed peas were different...cold; not nasty; but not something I'd get excited for. The Mac and Cheese made me wanna fight!! Disgusting the coleslaw taste like basic coleslaw so no biggie. Now last but not least that banana pudding made me sad I had such high hopes and that shit tastes old as shit!! Like it was in the fridge from last week or maybe thawed from the freezer. Now I usually stick to my leg quarter (HOT) and either greens, potato salad or maybe even grits

Waffles, The Ultimate Biscuit, A Classic Biscuit, Dirty Bird Fries, and A Fried Chicken Sandwich

My husband and I decided to stop by Hattie B's Hot Chicken while on our Ebike ride. We pulled into the parking lot and parked. We walked in through the back. I noticed an area outside with games, and some patio seating. As we walked in the building I saw a section of seating with booths and tables, we walked past the fountain drink area, and headed to the front to order. The menu is on the wall. As we approached the front of the line I was still a little unsure about what to order. The man working behind the counter was friendly and patient. My husband and I eventually placed our order, got our drink cups, paid, and got our number to display at our table. The whole process was quick. After getting our drink cups we filled them up with water and then found a place to sit and wait. We eventually got our food and began tasting different items. My husband and I shared our food. We ordered Waffles, the Ultimate Chicken Biscuit No Cheese, a Classic Biscuit, Dirty Bird Fries, and a Fried Chicken Sandwich No Cheese. We ordered all of our chicken with no heat or what they call Southern Style or no burn. The Waffles were delicious. They were belgian style waffles served with butter and syrup. They were super sweet and reminscent of a funnel cake. The Ultimate Chicken Biscuit was good. It comes with fried chicken, bacon, fried egg, and cheese but we ordered ours with No heat and No cheese. The biscuit was good, the chicken was a good size with a crispy exterior, the egg was okay, and the bacon added flavor. The Classic Biscuit was good. The biscuit was warm and soft on the inside with a brown semi crunchy outside. I got mine with strawberry jam. The Dirty Bird Fries were tasty. They came with fries, pimento mac, bite size chicken tenders, pickles, chives, and comeback sauce. The fries were somewhat crispy and with the pimento mac they eventually got soggy but that was expected. The chicken tender bites were good. They were a good size with a crispy exterior and a tender center. The pickles added texture and the chives added additional flavor, and the comeback sauce added a hint of spice. It was a good mix of ingredients and very filling. The fried chicken sandwich was yummy. It came with a piece of fried chicken, coleslaw, and pickles. We ordered ours with No cheese and No heat. The fried chicken was a good size with a tender interior and a crispy exterior. The coleslaw gave the sandwich flavor and the pickles texture. In hindsight I wish I would have gotten it with the pimento cheese. I will try that next time. Overall it was a good lunch stop. The atmosphere is spacious with seating inside and outside, the service was friendly and the food was really good.

Ask the Community - Hattie B's Hot Chicken - Austin - South Lamar

Does Haddie B's use pepper-infused oils to achieve different heat levels post frying? I'm pretty sure Tumble 22 does this while Gus's does not. My experience favors Gus's approach purely for the uniformity bite-to-bite, relative to crunch and heat.

Hey Robert, we add our spice blend to our oil base and dip the chicken in it after it comes out hot and fresh from the fryer! Hope you got to come in and experience some authentic Nashville hot chicken with us. Thank you!

Every time we come, we have been satisfied. This is a black-owned restaurant and babiiesss, this is one for the books. The best times to come are early before 5. SUNDAYS ARE SUPER BUSY, (line out the door busy), so beware of that. Let's start with the service, the owner is HIM. Every time we've come, he's greeting everyone that comes in with a calm, cool, welcoming, and assured demeanor about himself while taking orders. When he has the chance, he comes by the tables and checks in with everyone, making sure everyone is satisfied and the place is up to his standards. This man is the definition of #HANDSON! It's needed. He doesn't know it, but we really value him. The Ambiance is usually way more busier, energetic like. However, today we came closer to opening @ 11:15am and was able to enjoy sitting down without the rush. It's always great music playing, so you know I'm jamming :P The cooks keep hair nets on their heads and gloves on. It's somewhat an open window kitchen so that's cool too. There's usually a cleaning lady going around making sure the place stays clean and tables rotating. The prices aren't bad. They did just increase since the last we been here, but they're still affordable. Now for the food WITH SOULLLL... Since we've been here so many times, I'll give you the MUST TRYs! These are delicious, delightful and your tastebuds will love you for it. Plus the portions are generous and never lack in flavor. #ComfortingtotheSOUL 1. Oxtail Eggrolls $14 2. Fried Cabbage (Weekend Side Special) My rating... this place is definitive of SOUL. It's consistent, clean, and carries the vibes! One thing about it, whether you're vegetarian or loving the meat, you'll find something to love that will light your soul. It's been hard to find QUALITY food here in Austin, but we found it in WHIP MY SOUL. So GO, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! You won't be disappointed.

More than ten minutes later, when he checked again, the assistant manager was openly rude and dismissive. He told the driver he could not make the kitchen move any faster and then said, "Why don't you leave and come back then if you're in such a hurry." That interaction was bad enough that we canceled our food order, paid for our drinks, and left. When asked why, I explained exactly what we had witnessed.
